We enjoyed a very nice dinner at the Chart Room on June 29. It was our daughter's 40th Birthday. Mathew was our waiter and he was excellent. The only thing I would say about the shrimp scampi is there should be more than 3 shrimp. It taste delicious though! read more

Let me start by saying, I never write reviews, but this needed one. I ordered the hanger steak which is described as an 8 oz steak cooked to your liking, served cut on a bias. No mention of sauce. I was served extremely chewy meat that was in chunks similar to a steak tip (which are on the menu), definitely not sliced, and it was covered in a sauce that tasted like a sweet and sour. My waiter never came back to check on us for me to ask about it so I ended up eating most of it as I was hungry after a 6 hour car ride. When a different waitress came to clear the plates I mentioned that it wasn't what the menu described and it seemed like steak tips. I wasn't looking for it to be comped or anything as I ate it, but I wanted some acknowledgement that yeah that's not a hanger steak. She argued it was the hanger, but when I pointed out the sauce she said oh yeah that's weird. Then said well I can't really tell how it was cut since I didn't see the other pieces, and then said well did you like it? I said no, I didn't, it was very chewy and covered in sauce I didn't want. Also you can tell how it was cut as all sides are charred and cooked which would not happen if a piece of meat was sliced. After I responded I didn't actually like it, she said well I can bring you a dessert. Which I declined. I didn't want anything else. Our crab cakes appetizer was also served lukewarm at best and was mushy. The view is fantastic and our host James was lovely and accommodating. That is the only good I have to say about this experience. Way overpriced for that level of service and crappy food. I get it's a tourist destination and towards the end of the night you may run out of things, but just say that. Don't swap it and not acknowledge it. Definitely do not recommend read more

We were really hoping to enjoy a nice dinner. Unfortunately this was not a good experience. First, while Happy Hour is from 4-6, it's only at the bar or on the dock. They would not let me order a cocktail at the bar and then sit at a table. The difference is $4 off their $14 cocktails. Then we ordered the cheesy spinach and artichoke dip which was good, except the chips, which were stale. We told our waitress just so they wouldn't serve them to anyone else. Nothing was done to remedy the issue for us. We ordered the halibut for dinner and the flavor was good, not great, but it was raw. Overall we are disappointed with the food and service. We should note that they removed the halibut from our bill. The setting is pleasant but with the food quality issues we will not return. read more

Came in after a long, wet day hiking in Acadia and were looking for an Alagash White aka "best beer in Maine". There are picturesque views from the outdoor dining area, which gave us a relaxing setting to watch the sun set over the water. There are three dining areas: upstairs, downstairs, and outside. I would recommend either sitting upstairs or outside if you can! The downstairs felt a bit like a dining hall, and the other areas are nicer. We started the night with cocktails, oysters, and mussels. The oysters were wonderful and fresh (although difficult to mess up). We were BIG fans of the mussels. They are served in a butter sauce filled with garlic and herbs which heightened the flavor. The butter sauce was so delicious, we even used it to dip our entrees in! I ordered the shrimp, rice, and vegetables which were very flavorful. I would order it again! The lobster roll was a bit disappointing. We found it to be a bit soggy. Overall, I think the 3.5/5 star review for this restaurant is accurate. I would go back, but it is a bit underwhelming - specifically for the price. read more

Positives: our waitress Terry was awesome. She was very friendly, accommodating, and attentive. 5/5 for the service. The rest of the brunch stuff was good. Negatives: fried haddock ordered was soggy. The breading fell off the instant I picked it up and it was extremely wet. The fish also didn't have any seasoning, hot sauce was needed to give it any semblance of seasoning. Honestly one of the of worst fish and chips I've ever had. They were extremely accommodating to our HUGE family reunion group--with several last minute changes. The servers (especially Missy) were AMAZING and made ordering super organized and easy. We came here for a quick bite before going on a puffin/lighthouse boat tour. Thankfully, it was quick! We all got haddock and chips. The haddock tasted fresh, although it was a little overcooked and dry. Fries were fine, but nothing out of the ordinary. The service was okay - a little slow, but we got what we asked for. We loved it here, we came twice during our stay. It's only a couple miles outside of town. The scallop and shrimp pasta was my favorite! Really decent portion sizes and everything we had tasted great. The strawberry butter with the rolls was unique and tasty. If you don't make a reservation, you'll have to sit in the more casual section down below (which wasn't bad though!). But the ambiance and view from the upstairs dining room was more amazing. We know that Bar Harbor is closing many of their establishments along with a high volume of hungry tourists & lack of employees so we got there by 4:30. It was unseasonably warm so we sat on the back deck overlooking the harbor. We went all out with our dinner since we are touring from Wisconsin. I ordered the crusted halibut, asparagus & whole grain rice with my husband getting the 2lb lobster & potatoe wedges. Both choices were locally caught seafood that were both pleasantly presented & very tasty & satisfying. My husband also got a signature cocktail & I got a local brewed blueberry beer. To top it all off my husband got their tasty peanut butter cheesecake & I got their chocolate molten lava cake with ice cream & whip cream. The lobster roll was stuffed with lobster which was nice. The Angus burger was perfectly cooked medium. The prime rib was good would definitely recommend. We also got crabcakes but they were over cooked and cold and we're not good, we felt they were microwaved many times. While both were great, having someone else pick the lobster out of the shell for $5 more convinced me that is the way to go. We came here for lunch. And we were really glad we did. Although sitting on the deck was tempting, we decided to side inside with air conditioning. Our server was Val. She could have not been nicer and provided great service. We had large lobster roll with fries, mini lobster roll with clam chowder, haddock fish and chips, and Cesar salad with scallops. This is my third lobster roll after coming to Bar Harbor. This came as the best. Everyone enjoyed their meals, especially the size of mini lobster roll. The atmosphere is very pleasant. The interior ambiance, the service and the food collectively is the highest that I had for all dining experience in the MDI area. Our server Andy took great care of us. I was craving for Shrimp Scampi and only found out this was not on the lunch menu. Upon inquiring about the pasta dishes Andy offered to check in with the kitchen and made the accommodations for us! He was also attentive to our table and made a few check-ins with us throughout our meal. As for the meal, we enjoyed all three dishes very much. We ordered the Angus Burger, Shrimp Scampi, and Deep Sea Scallops. The burger came out juicy with a nice charcoal flavor. The grilled scallops were fresh and sweet. The Shrimp Scampi had plenty fresh shrimps and pasta was flavorful with plenty minced garlics and pesto sauce that I decided to dip the fries with them!! Unfortunately we only discovered the location on our last day in Bar Harbor. Had we found out about this place sooner, we would've visited place more than once! read more

A dish called the Captains stew at 32.95 suppose to be in a tomatoe broth was horrible it was like a thick marina sauce but the cheapest thing was there were 2 shrimp 2 scallops 4 mussels with one empty shell and a tiny piece of fish. The menu said all entrees come with mashed potato's rice or French fries but the waitress said not this dish. Mussels in white wine and garlic with tasty broth came with a slice of bread. ...what are you suppose to do with all the yummy broth? so we asked the waitress for some bread she charged us 3.00 for 4 slices of bread. Beware of this rip off restaurant, places that rip people off like this give restaurants a bad name. 140.00 plus tip. Shame on this rip off place. read more

Terrible Everything - I'm Being Easy Because Of Covid-19 Note: I have been traveling around the USA since June and have eaten out at over 50 restaurants During Covid-19 Era. I always stress on the side of leanency having been in the industry for 10 years myself. * - Service - Terrible, it took over 1 hour from our reservation time of 7:30 until we placed our order * Atmosphere - Terrible, Even though we had a reservation we were placed on a bird shit stained table away from the main outdoor dining area (in a parking lot) There were no lights at all and I had to use my cell phone to see what I was eating (picture below). * Food - Disgusting, we ordered the lazy man's stuffed lobster which was about 90% bread crumbs with some imitation lobster mixed in. Clam chowder was okay again very skimp on the meat I don't even know if there was any clam in there. Management - We tried to complain about waiting 1 hour ( No Exaggeration) but couldn't even figure out who was the manager. When we told somebody the hostesses came out screaming my name asking why I was calling her if we were already sat, as our waitress popped out if nowhere. What is going on here ( Nobody knew what they were doing) The Night was topped off with another patron coming out to the parking lot because thats were my table was located and blew the snot out of his nose with his hands. Great Touch. Being this restaurant is near Arcadia I give my Crown Jewel Moment, to when a table came behind us (noticing our makeshift light display since this establishment is to cheap to buy a few string lights & wood at home Depot) asking about our experience. Pandemic post: only outdoor dining was available when we went in early Sept 2020. Tables were spaced apart, employees wore masks, salt & pepper was available via packets instead of the shakers. I really enjoyed their scallops while my boyfriend had their fish and chips fish. Served with fries. Service was great even when it started picking up shortly after we arrived. Being outside by the waters, there were times it was chilly and windy so dress appropriately. But the outdoor patio behind the restaurant had a bridge you can walk on to get to the "beach" and waters. Also liked that the restaurant had parking in front. Stopped here per recommendation of a friend. They have indoor and outdoor seating we opted for indoor seating. Our waiter was friendly and very helpful when we asked questions about their menu. We ordered the seafood linguine which was so flavorful and great portion. We also got the swordfish steak per recommendation of our waiter it had great flavor but was a tad dry or overcooked. We finished with blueberry ice cream and blueberry pie both were delicious. It's a very high end romantic setting. Would recommend this location for good flavorful food. read more

We just had a bad experience. This time all 11 of us were quickly seated downstairs - it was warm and nice. The food was solid, classic preparation - nothing unusual. We ordered a lot of seafood and Ribeyes tonight and I asked for a slow-roast Prime Rib. I learned that i VASTLY prefer a good sear over a slow roast. :( It was like thick roast beef guys. (That's not the restaurant's fault though!) I'll make our big fat issues blunt: - They forgot my dad's salad AND his ribeye and our server handled the slip-up horribly. Instead of fixing it right away and checking her notepad, she asked us if we actually ordered enough food. - Server literally had to count the entrees by standing next to my grandma and announcing "One.. Two, three, four..." When there is quite literally an empty space with NO PLATE. We understand, and my dad was kind about it, but my cousins and I found that behavior tactless as hell. Please do it without making a scene. - We were not informed that multiple servers would be bouncing over to our table, asking our non-english speaking relatives questions. - My dad ordered medium and it came out well done. Like... what - Our server just didn't check on us. We emptied our water glasses and just chilled out. Not a huge deal. - Turns out our server was chatting it up with the boisterous table behind us. They were making a scene, cackling and shouting -- that's great and all, but the nearby tables around us were annoyed. Every time our server came to that table, her voice increased by ten decibels just to match theirs. - No comped meal, or free small plate, just our server returning at the end to apologize profusely to my dad. We appreciate the time she took to do that for us, but.... seriously. Did you have to talk about tipping right after? - Additional note: my sibling and cousins felt really uncomfortable from the continuous staring and gesturing at us from the back doors. The sea scallops were made perfectly, big moist and flavorful. Had to have the filet mignon, cooked medium rare and great but wow there homemade steak sauce was amazing. Also had the crab cakes, not to salty just perfect. Had the chicken Alfredo and even this was great. Fresh chopped garlic and creamy. The service was so fast and very friendly staff.
