I'm convinced this is one of the best restaurants in Bar Harbor. We wandered in on a random Thursday afternoon to get a very late lunch. It was close to where we were staying, and we noticed it had a deck overlooking the water when we drove by. We had just come into town and were trying to get our bearings for the start of our trip. We were lucky enough to get Missy as our server. She was so incredibly with a big, friendly personality. If you choose to visit, I'd highly recommend you ask to sit in her section. We realized through her conversation with others, that there were several tourist regulars eating around us. She said one couple had been in town for two weeks and visited The Chart Room daily. There was another couple seated next to us that only ordered blueberry pie and coffee, then told their server they'd see him later as they'd be back for dinner time. That really says a lot about how good this restaurant is in my opinion. Obviously, being in Maine we had to try everything blueberry. The blueberry marg recommended by Missy was great! The real stand out though, was the blueberry pie. Truly, my husband and I agree, that it was the best dessert we've ever had. I can absolutely understand why people were returning and ordering just pie. We ended up coming back for dinner one night with the pie being our main motivation for dining here again! The food was also really good. I don't eat seafood and that's the bulk of most restaurant menus in Maine so unfortunately, I can't attest to how good it may have been. I will start by saying, if I am paying for bread, it should be something special and not snowflake rolls from a package that they charged $6.50 for. My French onion soup was fine, nothing to brag about. My ribeye steak wasn't great, but the potato and green beans were good. My husband ordered the prime rib, which he enjoyed very much. We ate in the dining room, but out back they had a nice deck area that appears to be well frequented and a great place to watch the sunset. I had been disappointed with my first lobster roll in Portland, but thought I'd give it another chance once we made it to Bar Harbor. On the menu they have a small lobster roll with kettle chips but I chose fries and a small bowl of clam chowder. They have a nice area in the back for outdoor dining. It was clean and comfortable. The lobster roll was perfect. The lobster was cold and the bun was warm and delicious. The clam chowder had nice chunks of clams and served with oyster crackers. Our server was attentive. Heading into Bar Harbor we wanted a good dinner but didn't want to deal with the crowds. About 4 miles before heading into Bar Harbor this restaurant is on the main road on the water. It's a huge space. You can sit inside, or outside on the deck or pier. We chose to sit on the pier. It was a beautiful day and view. Our waitress was so sweet and friendly. We ordered the blueberry lemonade happy hour drink special and a dozen of the $2 oysters. The oysters were divine! For $2 each I could have eaten more. For dinner I had the Maine mussels in white wine, garlic, tomato served with baguettes. I've had mussels before and these were spectacular. The white wine sauce was incredible!! Every mussel was cooked perfect. Not one was closed. The flavor of the sauce distributed through out every mussel. Topped with the view and the amazing wait staff this meal was memorable. read more

We had just gotten to town after a long day of driving and we were ready to eat some lobster! We started with some local beer then ordered the lazy lobster and the lobster newberg. A popular local establishment that lies right along the shoreline of Hulls Cove so the water views can change depending on the tide. Parking is limited due to being right along the highway so just slow down as you approach the restaurant. There is also a small parking area across the street just be careful crossing, especially at night. It is not well lit and traffic can be busy. This is a very popular site, so reservations are highly recommended. They utilize every area of the restaurant for seating and you can see most people enjoying the outdoor patios when the weather is nice. Seating in the enclosed or open patios are accessed in the back down a short steep walkway, I am not aware of this being accessible for wheelchairs. Their menu was varied and our first meal for dinner was enjoyed so much that we returned another day for lunch. Sauces could be a bit heavy but were full of flavor. What we had went well with the accompanying dish. Portions were generous and the seafood was fresh and well prepared. Dinner visit:9 5/5 Seafood linguine with a &delicious sherry flavored cream sauce. The shrimp and scallops were tender and for an additional price I was able to request some lobster to be added to this dish. 4/5 Baked Stuffed Haddock- my husband's dish which he enjoyed. The fish was baked just right and was fresh, moist and tender. Lunch visit: 4/5 Crab Dip- blend of crab, cheddar, seasoning and scallions served with crostinis. Served piping hot but the crostinis were tough to bite through and chewy. Definitely helped take the edge off of starving for food after a big hike. 5/5 Clam Chowder- creamy New England style had a smooth and texture. Not grainy and the clams were readily present and tender. 5/5 Beaten Goat salads, arugula with candied walnuts, diced beets, goat cheese with raspberry vinaigrette. I added lobster to my salad and the husband added grilled tuna to his. 5/5 Blueberry pie- baked in house with Maine blueberries that just burst with flavor despite their tiny size. If I were a local I would designate this restaurant as one of my go to stops. It is an older establishment and they preserve the old style recipes. We had lunch here on a Saturday. We had a reservation and were sat at a nice table on the dock. The view of the water was very nice. The servers were very attentive to us and polite. Came here for happy hour and the oysters were so good and fresh! They were also only $2/each! The blueberry lemonade was made with fresh blueberry syrup and blueberries as garnish, also very yummy. Popped in here for a light bite after a rousing game of mini golf. First - the view from the deck here is hard to beat. And it's so much more peaceful than the hub bin of the Harbor down the road. And - they've added seats lining the dock. Very cool! Mom and I ordered the haddock bites (which had a fancy French name I don't recall) which came with chipotle mayo and pineapple salsa. The haddock was perfectly cooked and the light breading was on point. The combo of the dips was amazing too. My Dad got the whole belly clam app - he said they were great - no grit and the tartar sauce had a good kick! As always - I asked to see the dessert menu, just to look. But wow - it was loaded with so many of my favorites. We went with a cheesecake (raspberry today) and a peanut butter pie. I didn't try the pie - but my cheesecake was top notch! Silky, light and delicious! And the raspberry sauce was very good!! Lastly - I had a blueberry mojito that was delicious. Mom had a blueberry lemonade mock tail and was very happy. So the reason for the new review is that while the management and the servers care a lot about allergens, the kitchen doesn't seem to care. If it comes out wrong the first time, it'll likely come out wrong the second and the third time. If the management and kitchen could get on the same page about allergens, it would be great. For a final dinner in the area we sought out a restaurant with great lobster for a member of our group. We found the Chart Room because we all wanted to enjoy a lovely patio. What a meal we all had in a lovely setting. Our party of four ordered two risottos and a shrimp linguine as well as the lobster. The lobster was delicious and velvety soft. The risotto was creamy with just the right touch of corn that added sweetness. The linguine was perfectly cooked with an ambitious amount of shrimp. The portions were ample for all of us. The highlight of the evening was our server Missy. She was a delight. She was charming, funny and knowledgeable about the food and how it was prepared. Her service was beyond first-rate. Her fellow server, Val, was also fun and sharp as a tack and to say we were well taken care of is an understatement. The highlight of the evening was when Missy de-shelled the lobster. She shucked with impressive speed and accuracy all the while narrating what she was doing and why. Anyone seeking lobster but not knowledgeable about how to shuck it would be well taken care of by Missy. Our food came fast, was hot and prepared with a chef who clearly cared about the taste and presentation of the meals. Our compliments to the chef, indeed!! For desert we split blueberry pie and tiramisu. We all agreed, the pie was the best blueberry pie we had ever eaten. The tiramisu was delicious and felt like just the right shade of decadent. Granted we come from a fresh fish area.... But this meal was unimpressive at best. The fried clams were pricey for the amount and a little over breaded and greasy. Halibut crust was great but fish was small and just sub par for $39 and no salad, no bread. Chopped rubbery carrots as the roasted vegetables and the wild rice was chewy. We are used to small portions at gourmet restaurants but this was not the case. Scallops looked grey and seemingly boiled. Everything came out in like a cafeteria style dinner plate reminiscent of a meal you would receive at a convalescent home. $160 meal would have given an extra star if they didn't place us in the downstairs, heated porch instead of the empty and beautiful indoor restaurant area that at least had a view. I think they are able to stay in business because of their location. There are many, many good restaurants in town. I recommend going somewhere else. I want to give them a higher score but here's the deal: the management, cares. The wait staff, cares. The kitchen does not. What does this mean: it means that if your food comes out wrong, it will stay wrong until management watches the kitchen remake your food on attempt 3. This especially applies to food allergies. We've eaten here a few times, and while the management is really trying hard, the kitchen just does not care. The end result is tasty food, that comes out wrong and takes multiple tries to correct which leads other food to go cold. The French onion soup is delicious, the lobster comes shelled (mostly) and drenched in butter, the crab dip is amazing, the blueberry ice cream is amazing! I do have to say if you have patience, the view is outstanding, to sit on the pier at high tide while eating is a lovely meal! read more

I don't know how this place got 4 stars. What!! Andy our server was excellent no problem with him. He did an excellent job bringing out the bad food. The only thing good was the bang bang shrimp. The crab cake starters were all bread, no crab to be seen. Maybe a crab ran through it! Then I asked if the stuffing in the Haddock was the same as the crab cake , he said no. But when my Baked Haddock came it was dry and the filling was the same as the crab cake, not as described, no crab to be seen . The other table mates were also disappointed with their food .
