Mussels, snow crab and shrimp with fries
Caitlin H.

I would recommend Captain's Boil if: - you enjoy pure seafood on its own - willing to pay around $25-30 per person - don't mind getting your hands dirty The menu and quality is exactly the same as the Toronto location. Boiled seafood is brought to your table in a plastic bag and guests eat with their plastic gloves and a bib. Very fun experience but can also get very expensive. I recommend ordering the mussels and shrimp. Everything else is not very worth it, maybe the snow crab if you'd like more variety. Crawfish is difficult to eat and not very meaty compared to the shrimp. The fries are nice and crispy and not too startchy. They make a good side! Get the captains boil sauce for everything as it's a combination of the cajun, garlic, and lemon sauce. The sauce is AMAZING. I lick my fingers after every bite and dip my fries in them. Caution: mild will be more spicy than you expect. It's only half a cob of corn (don't be fooled and pay $1.25) Overall, you may leave feeling unsatisfied and your wallet feeling a bit too light but it's all protein so it takes awhile for you to feel full. By the time I got home I felt stuffed. 4 stars because it's too pricey- I even witnessed a couple leaving once they were sat and viewed the menu.

1 lb. of shrimp w/ corn and steamed rice

I came here last week with my friends on a Friday night and the restaurant was almost 75% full. The prices changed since the first time I visited and we now pay market prices for the seafood rather than a fixed price. I ordered 1lb of shrimp, in Captain's Boil sauce and non-spicy for $16.99. One good thing is that now this price includes 2 sides so I chose corn and steamed rice. The portion of steamed rice was actually quite large. If you mix the sauce with the rice and shrimp, it's basically the same as Seafood Fried Rice (which goes for about $16). Overall, a fun, hands-on experience that will leave you with a very full stomache! I do have to say though, the flavour does get a little boring after a while but not bad. Tip: do not wear the gloves if you order shrimp, it just gets in the way of peeling!

This is my third time at Captain's Boil and my first time at the London location. Captain's Boil is a wonderful restaurant with a fun and messy environment, great for gatherings with families and friends! This is not your ordinary sit down establishment with plates, forks and knives! Get ready to use your hands and indulge in their delicious selection of seafood. The London location was clean, service was fast and the staff was attentive. Food: First you pick your seafood (lobster, clams, mussels, shrimps, crab). Next, you pick your sauce! They have four different sauces to choose from, but my favourite is their captain's boil (a mixture of the 3). Once you've picked your sauce, you can adjust the heat to your liking. I highly recommend their mussels and clams, sweet and juicy! They have several side dishes as well. Their fried rice was a pleasant surprise! Not too salty and paired well with leftover sauce and the seafood. Their fried shrimp basket is also great for sharing. Captain's Boil is definitely different from other restaurants in London. I highly recommended giving this place a visit if you'd like to try something new.

In the picture I took, the excellent, homemade-tasting, oniony curry sauce is off to the side so you can add it to the katsu (and rice) just before you dig in. This means your cutlet stays crispy the whole time. Wonderful presentation in a lovely to-go bento box. Meal included a cup of miso soup as well. The other picture was my partner's pick. Unagi poke bowl with added salmon (for an extra $4). Great portions and really well flavoured. She commented especially favourably on the tempura crispy bits throughout the bowl, which provided great texture. Go here. Order. You won't be sorry. They have a nice 20% discount for first-timers on the website. Also a nice 15% discount for pick-up.

This is truly on another level than any other Japanese restaurant in town. Delivery was really fast! We ordered from the app and got free delivery and 15% off from ordering $35+. Really great packaging, the katsu, rice, macaroni salad and daikon were in a bento-like container. The chili garlic chicken katsu was my favorite! Also got takoyaki, chicken karage, and pork teriyaki katsu and we enjoyed it all. Highly highly recommend!

However, when we travel, due to disruptions in sleeping and eating patterns, we are also very prone to hangriness! We are very self-aware when it comes to this, and when we see the first signs of hangriness in ourselves or each other, we stop what we are doing and find the closest place that doesn't appear too objectionable, and we get something to eat there. Wok Box was the lucky place on our most recent trip to London. People say when you are hungry, everything tastes good, but for me, when I'm hangry, I am much more critical, because I kind of resent eating at a place that would under normal circumstances not be one of my top choices. Anyway, I am happy to announce that despite the situation, I enjoyed my meal at Wok Box. So Wok Box is a chain, but there aren't any locations in the city I currently live in (Ottawa). It's similar to Thai Express. They serve Asian-inspired food, mostly noodles and rice dishes. You order, then they cook it up in the wok. What sets them apart from Thai Express is they also have wings and poutine (all with Asian themes, of course). They also sell soups and appetizers like potstickers/dumplings. My husband and I got a full order of the Singapore Cashew Noodle Box with beef ($12.99) to share. I do like that you can customize your noodles. Our choice usually comes with Hokkien noodles, but we opted to substitute for ribbon noodles (which is rice vermicelli noodles, like the ones usually used for Pad Thai). I also requested no bean sprouts. The noodle box was great. The beef was tender and lean. It came with broccoli, carrots, cabbage and onions. The sauce was a bit spicy and had good flavour. Temperature-wise the noodles were so hot. Like even as we got to the bottom of the box, the food was still piping hot. Half boxes are $8.99, full boxes $12.99 and Sumo-sized boxes are $16.99. Noodle choices are Chow Mein, Hokkien, Ribbon noodles and Udon. You can also substitute noodles for rice. Service was friendly and efficient. Lots of free parking in the plaza.

Huge variety of options. I have tried many options and never got disappointed. The place is nice,…read moregood structure and is very clean. Kudos to the staff...every time I go there, I have a good experience!

The restaurant called me shortly after placing the order to tell me they were out of wings, which we replaced for something else. Then they called an hour and a half later to tell me they were out of the mac and cheese, but that was a pretty big one for us, we were REALLY excited for the mac and cheese and my boyfriend and I were raving about it to his parents :( Then finally when the order arrived, a lot of the things came in these tiny little cups, so much smaller than what we were anticipating. When our friends placed the order, it was massive portions in pie tins which is what we were expecting, so for what we paid vs. the portions we received, we were pretty disappointed. I can accept that I wrongfully assumed I ordered the same thing my friends ordered, clearly they did something different, but it would have been nice if the website had more specifications so that this could have been better prevented. And it also would have been great if we were told about the mac and cheese being sold out earlier because at that point it was way too late for us to decide to order somewhere else that actually would have had our order in stock.
