Good restaurant, nice ambience, decent food but on the pricier side.

We are on our first day in Scotland and I wanted to find something with fresh veggies and spice…read more We'll be having enough traditional food in the Highlands. We loved this restaurant and enjoyed all our dishes. The good thing about small plates, at modest prices, is if a member of your party doesn't care for a dish it's no big deal. The salads, the kebabs, the dips, the seafood... everything was first rate as was the service. Only dish that faltered (and we had 10 among four of us) was the moussaka. Terrific meal! They need to pay more attention to their Yelp listing - there's a full bar, excellent cocktails, and they take credit cards - despite the Yelp listing.

As I get further into my twenties, I've found that restaurants have an increasing tendency to play their music very loud. I'm sorry, and call me old fashioned, but one of the main things about going out for dinner is that you are there to have a conversation with the person you are with. I'm not there to get my groove on. Anyway, I digress. I really enjoy Greek/Turkish and Middle Eastern Food which is what this place specialises in. We chose some mezze plates including the chicken souvlaki, soutzoukakia (meatballs), the Moroccan Chicken Tagine and the Loukaniko. It was mouth watering. It was great value too, the portion sizes were manageable and we left very happy customers.

On top of this, the Merienda team have put a few extra precautions in place, all without impacting the dining experience! When we arrived at the restaurant we were encouraged to sanitize our hands, we had our temperature checked and we were asked to keep our face masks on whilst moving through the restaurant. Whether you're looking for a light meal or a full dining experience, the menu is served Mediterranean style with small plates based around 5 different sections; Merienda Staples, Fields and Gardens, Farms and Pastures, Rivers and Seas, and Sweetness. We decided to go for the full dining experience and ordered 6 plates each, plus a dessert to share. After grazing on so many delicious plates, it was difficult to choose a favourite, but if we had to pick 1, it would have to be the star of the show - the dessert - White chocolate & cranberry croissant butter pudding. Everything about the menu was incredibly fresh and it was interesting to know that all the ingredients are sourced locally throughout Scotland, served in their own style! The servers were extremely attentive and (personally for us) we enjoyed the pace in which all the dishes were served, as this allowed us to not rush our meal and appreciate the flavours the chef had put together for us. Merienda - Casual fine dining focuses on the good food and provenance of ingredients, not the linen and formal attire.

The food is flavoursome and fresh, while the service is quick and friendly. I go to Yeni's with my friends and my family, everyone is catered for with the inclusion of vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free options. The dishes are extremely reasonable in price, and midday is always quiet, if not completely deserted! Of course, dinnertime is busier if you're looking for more of an atmosphere. Lunchtime, however, is my favourite time for Yeni's. The deserts are absolutely delicious, the ice cream flavours are unique and garnished with fresh mint. Yeni's is located centrally, with excellent transport options. I have to say, I love a bit of Yeni's.

We order practically everything on the menu and savour every morsel (and this is a woman who is the epitome of self restraint when it comes to food). You never feel rushed so you can sit back and wade through the delectable assortment of dishes at your own pace, and it's all served with piping hot pitta bread to mop up the scrumptious juices. My personal favourites are the meze sausage, calamari, mixed roast vegetables and the lamb kebabs with that authentic Turkish rice that takes me back to a particularly magnificent holiday in Istanbul. Finished off with their Baklava and a cup of steaming apple tea. Perfection. Give Yeni's a try, you will not be disappointed. Lauren x
