Dinner at Billy Reed's was, of course, exactly what we expected: great. But what made the evening…read moreespecially memorable had very little to do with the food. When we were first seated, a bus server brought us water and asked if we would like anything else to drink. We started giving him our drink orders, only to realize he didn't have a pen or paper. He politely excused himself, came back prepared, and took our order. A little while later, our drinks were delivered by another gentleman who was immediately warm, polished and engaging. His name was **Cosmo**. He wasn't our server, though. Eventually, another server stopped by and told us he would be taking care of us and would return shortly. He never introduced himself. When he returned, we ordered our starters, and later our entrées. He did his job and was perfectly fine. But throughout the evening, Cosmo kept appearing at exactly the right moments. Cosmo noticed when my drink was empty and asked if I wanted another. Throughout dinner, he continued checking on our table, making sure we had drinks and everything else we needed. At the same time, we watched him interact with other guests throughout the restaurant and help the servers wherever he was needed. He was polished, attentive and genuinely engaging, but also seemed to instinctively know when to step away and let guests enjoy their evening. After several conversations with him, curiosity finally got the better of us. We asked, "So, what exactly is your story? Are you the head waiter? A supervisor?" Nope. Cosmo explained that he is actually a busser, just like the gentleman who initially brought us our water. He has been at Billy Reed's for many years. At one point he considered becoming a server, but decided he really didn't want to have to memorize the entire menu. He loves what he does, and it shows. He even gave us the introduction he would have used had he been the first person to greet our table that evening. It was hilarious. He has that rare hospitality instinct of knowing how to engage people, make them laugh and feel welcome, while also knowing exactly when to retreat. There was one final moment that summed up the evening perfectly. The servers came over and sang Happy Birthday to Michael. We noticed Cosmo wasn't with them and wondered why. When they finished, Cosmo came over to our table and personally sang Happy Birthday to Michael himself. That was Cosmo. Our dinner was great. Our server was fine. But **Cosmo made the night.** Billy Reed's is fortunate to have him. After all those years, he may technically still be a busser, but from a guest's perspective, he understands hospitality better than most people ever will. PoliStein

YES to everything!…read more The food was excellent. We started with the crab cakes, and although they lacked a bit of structural integrity, they were absolutely divine! The aioli they came with was a perfect pairing. The chili was great! Lots of meat in it & I ate it my favorite way, which was loaded onto some buttered up cornbread! My entree was the chicken pot pie, and wow, wow, wow! What a treat. The crust was perfect, and the pot pie is packed with chicken, veggies, and that delicious signature pot pie creaminess! We were lucky enough to meet the new owners who have committed to maintaining the traditions of the original community stronghold that has been "Billy Reed's". There were lots of conversations around us about the new owners and how these people have been coming here for decades; and I completely understand why. This is comfort food excellence! The service? Incredible. We were served by Jackie. She was an absolute delight. From recommendations to just being downright pleasant and providing excellent service, she was perfect 10/10! The restaurant feels historic! I love the ambiance & everything it offers as an experience as a whole. Can't wait to visit again JUST to have Billy Reed's!

Dinner for two at Heydey in downtown Palm Springs…read more It was our first time there and we had an excellent experience. Heydey is a casual (shorts and t-shirts seemed too be the preferred attire) retro diner mixed with a cocktail lounge featuring dark red booths, stained-glass lampshades, and an outdoor patio. The restaurant is small with limited seating and does not do reservations but we had no trouble being seated immediately on a Wednesday evening at around 6. Our super friendly and charming server was Cesar who greeted us with the biggest smile which he maintained throughout our visit - it makes a dining out experience all-the-more enjoyable to have someone like Cesar taking care of you. We both ordered the "Martini and Burger" special which featured a single smash burger described on the menu as "Fresh beef blend, American cheese, caramelized onions, shredded lettuce, house made 1,000, on a griddled potato bun." The special was $20.75 each. While the burger was delicious, we felt it was on the small side and could have been larger. The martinis were standard size and on the strong side. The burger does not come with anything at all so we ordered a regular order of fries to share ($7.75) and the order size was more than enough for two of us. While best known for their signature smash burgers, HeyDey also offers cheeseburgers, vegan burger options, crispy fries, chicken sandwiches, wings, and house-made sauces. Bar is limited to beer, wine and martinis. Bottom line: small, friendly, casual downtown Palm Springs eatery known for its smash burgers and martinis. Service was excellent. Other than for disappointment in the small size of the burgers and the fact that any sides were a la carte - we will be back to try other items on the menu - hoping to get Cesar as our server ;-)

Looked for a place to eat during happy hour in Palm Springs and found this awesome restaurant!…read more Huge space with indoor and outdoor seating. Service was great, didn't need to ask for refills and staff were very attentive. We ordered from the happy hour menu, which is filled with so many great options. My only criticisms are that they need more waitresses/waiters to accommodate clientele, especially as happy hour comes to a close. I was charged regular price for the Sour Cherry Balsamic Braised Pork Shoulder and Local Date & Arugula Salad. Had the waitress had more availability, I would've received happy hour prices instead. Obviously, this is a management issue. I got the Bay Scallop Ceviche, which was good, but not sure I'd re-order. The Braised Pork Shoulder was definitely worth it and such a fun excursion. The pork was reminiscent of Carnitas, loved the red potatoes, spinach was awesome, and what genius threw cherries in this dish?! I'll definitely return because the hostesses were cool and the floor staff checked in several times.

I'm actually surprised it isn't busier, especially given how popular their previous location was. But no complaints, there is rarely a wait...for now! The fried chicken and waffle was very good--the chicken and waffle technically come as separate dishes, but the chicken's marinade and sauces were especially tasty. One small thing: the coffee refills came pretty quickly, to the point where I was a little worried the cup might spill! The ambiance is pretty classic breakfast-diner style, with lots of paintings featuring old-school Palm Springs. It definitely gives the place some character and makes it feel unique I also made a joke about Rick's Café from Casablanca, and apparently I wasn't the only person who made that connection! Overall, a fun breakfast spot. I'll definitely come back and try some of the other menu items next time, especially with friends

Prior visit has been for food which the last time it was quite nice. We've sat at the covered patio which was great as we had our little fur baby with us. Oh, the place is pet friendly which is very nice. Anyways, for dinner menu is somewhat limited but they do have some good options. As this event was held during happy hour times, and the place closed for the event so there was no food served. Parking is great as there's plenty of spots in the lot. Street parking is also available if needed. The place is quite cute with their decors. There were maybe three bartenders working the event. They had their regular cocktails menu as well as specials. Not sure if that's a main thing or if it was just for the event. The main bar and dining area was utilized where people can mingle and get to know each other. Event hosted by The Palm Springs Guys where they host monthly cocktails hours at different businesses. My wife ordered the poblano chile relleno, and everything on the plate was delicious. The refried pinto beans were especially good, and the corn pudding was amazing--like a little piece of corn tamal! Then came the carrot cake sandwich... and honestly, it looked like they saved the best for last. This might be the best carrot cake we have ever tried! The layers of cream cheese semifreddo, carrot ribbon cream, candied pecans, orange crisps, and salted caramel were absolutely incredible.
