This place is a hidden GEM! We saw Jomo and the possum posse here last Friday and had one of the best live music experiences I've ever had. It is a listening room...which means no drunks screaming in you ear about random stuff while you are trying to focus on the music. It was full of hospitality from the staff wine and beer was priced well, and the feel of a cozy spot for live music was amazing. We apologized to all our friends the next day for not inviting them...and the only reason we didn't is because we didn't know wha to expect. Now we do! This is a date-night MUST! We came here to see Guy Forsythe and were not disappointed. It's a mini concert hall that seats about 70 people in comfy chairs. All attention is on the artist, and it maintains a nice intimacy. They have a small reception area where they check you in and made wine and beer available for purchase (including Buckethead, which I really like) at very reasonable prices. It's really not a commercial affair at all. It's a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that also does great and meaningful work in the community. They're truly musical ambassadors, fueled by passion and a firm belief in the power of live music and the role it plays in a healthy society. I will absolutely come back again! Fabulous musicians perform in this acoustically stunning theater for a top-notch listening experience. The small theater has about 60 extra-comfortable seats. Talking is not permitted, so one can really appreciate the music. Everyone is very friendly, and it is easy to meet and converse with other attendees, staff and the musicians before the show starts or during the break between the two sets played. This little venue is definitely worth a visit from Austin, Houston or further away. Live-streamed concerts mean that you can try it from the comfort of your own home if unable to attend. read more

The Bugle Boy is a fantastic place to hear independent live music - well worth the 1-hour drive from Houston or Austin! I started coming to see shows here while temporarily living in Fayette County, and have continued to make the drive back regularly. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting; in fact, it would be hard for anyone to write a review without "knowing" the owner, Lane Gosnay, because it only takes a couple of visits before she starts greeting you at the door by name with a big hug. This isn't your average music club: The Bugle Boy is a non-smoking "listening room," which means the musicians don't compete with the audience for airtime - talking during the show is unacceptable. After having some great shows in Austin nearly ruined for me by loud drunk people talking over the music, I REALLY appreciate this. Audiences range in size from 10-15 people to 50-70 people, depending on the performer, and usually consist of a handful of locals and a bunch of professional couples aged 50+ who've driven in from Austin or Houston. The format means you have a nice opportunity to talk with the performers in between sets or after the show -- more than once I have been happily chatting up someone before the show only to have them excuse themselves to go up on stage. Performers run the gamut from completely unknown (read: up and coming) to very popular artists who draw big crowds in Austin (e.g., Eliza Gilkyson, Sara Hickman, Carolyn Wonderland, Ruthie Foster, Guy Forsythe, etc) and they plainly love playing the venue because they keep coming back. Shows usually run from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and consist of two sets with a break in between. You can get coffee beverages, beer, wine, smoothies, and snacks, but it's a good idea to eat dinner before the show. read more

Had seen The Bugle Boy on past trips to La Grange and always wondered what it was about. Well, we went last night and now I know that this is a wonderful venue to listen to great music by talented artist. The acoustics were perfect, the seats comfortable and the staff so friendly, with a nice reasonably priced selection of wine, coffees, smoothies and Blue Bell milkshakes. Last night's artist was Dana Cooper and he was wonderful - songwriter, singer and guitarist extraordinaire. This was the perfect setting for his thought-provoking music and interesting ballads with a few songs to make you smile. If you are a person who actually likes to HEAR music when played by singer/songwriters, this is the best place I've ever found. I would rather go here than anywhere, as it might keep me out of jail for assaulting someone talking during an event I paid my hard earned $$$ to attend! I also Love that they have a wide selection of wines, and beers, all served in actually glasses and the comfortable seating has Cupholders in which these glasses fit! Free filtered water, by the glass (decreased need to recycle). The volunteers here are awesome, as are the musicians, and the Talent Trust awards that are given to support singer/songwriters, who just need a little boost to get that album produced.
