Beautifully placed under huge, spreading oak trees, plenty of parking, large patio areas for live music venues, quaint air-conditioned interior with a large back-bar. The food was excellent -- very well done burgers and a grilled chicken sandwich well worth the money. The menu isn't expansive, but has plenty of options, including some very neat appetizers such as fried alligator or fried pickles -- which are not shown on the website menu, but were definitely on the in-house menu. They have a lot of different beers on tap, too. Clean restrooms, friendly, knowledgeable wait staff. Definitely will be adding this one to our list of local outliers worthy of a 45 minute expedition.

The music was mostly 1960s and 1970s, as I recall, which is right in MY senior wheelhouse. The young lady tending bar was cordial, the price of beer was reasonable and the concert posters on the walls were nostalgic. After the nice folks left, I was alone with the barkeep, but she told me that things get going on Saturday night, although there was no live entertainment that evening. I said I'd be back after a shower and change of clothes, but it had been a long day with a drive from Rosharon and a 3.1-mile walk each way from/to my motel and Bluff Schuetzenfest, so cracked a beer, microwaved some food and hit the rack. I also "did" Texas Independence in Washington-on-the-Brazos, the fall of The Alamo in San Antonio and the San Jacinto Battlefield earlier in the year. I don't intend to repeat those in 2024, but I'm very seriously considering a return to La Grange and this place is on my short list of "places to go, things to do and people to see." And this time, after dark, too.

My friend and I went here when we met in La Grange last week. It's a pretty small place but since…read moreit was around 1:30 PM there were not many people there. I got the large cranberry pecan spring mix salad and thought it was very good. I wondered about the size, because this is the first time I have ever finished a large salad. But the taste was good. My friend got the Cuban sandwich and opted for the pasta salad instead of a side salad. The pasta salad was good but he said the sandwich, and the way it was smashed down a little, made it really chewy and very hard to eat. He ended up putting the inside of the sandwich on just one piece of bread and that helped. Afterward, I got one of their chocolate peanut butter cookies and it was delicious! The staff was very friendly and they even came to our table to take our order because we did not realize we were supposed to order at the counter. It looked like they had a nice wine selection so I may go back for a glass of wine with a friend but I doubt I would go back for a full meal again. I will say that we chose to sit at one of their small two person tables and I would never do that again. It was a metal table that bent and sort of popped up every time I would lean against it. Choose the wooden tables if you go!
