Finally tried after years of passing by on our back & forth between family visits. Parking can be tricky as the lot is tight. Visitors have to put into perspective that this spot has been serving the community since 1959 in the same building so a lot of history. Cool wall of Fame and a Ms. Pac-Man in the corner. Plenty of seating which is good as customers came in waves. They seem to have a loyal customer base. Friendly Counter guy, and I loved the clacking of spatulas on the grill, the sizzling of meat cooking, and the smell of what is to come. We ordered a 12"' deluxe, fries and a can of coke, about $30. Lobby & tables could be cleaner, wife wiped down ours, floors looked a little grimy (remember 1959). Our Steak & Cheese was decent, meat, cheese, and peppers on a bun. Nothing remarkable, a little bland, but have had worse in Philly. Our fries were great & alot of them. Bag was nice & greasy. Overall not bad, it has survived a long time (got me by a few years) so dont come looking for anything, but a solid lunch/dinner to fill you up.

I wouldn't say this is better than Philly Cheesesteak or even Baltimore, but The Broiler has a vibe of its own. I classify this as a "Steak & Cheese" and it's really its own thing... tastes different to Philly Cheesesteak and we should start treating it as such. The way the spread and grease blends with the bread just tastes so good with the chopped up Steak. I remember eating this in college and it tastes the same. Maybe it's a nostalgia thing but I still got love for The Broiler!

I'm really scratching my head on this one, normally you guys don't steer my wrong. This place was disgusting with slow service. Here's my question: did I order incorrectly? I ordered a large square pizza. It was not thin crust. It was not cooked entirely. Other than an overwhelming taste of garlic, I did not taste anything else. Could it be that 3:00 pm on Sunday has their 3rd string cooks working? Tell me what I did wrong please.

The Broiler is the quintessential hole in the wall to meet all of your lunchtime and late night cravings. You have to know what you want to have a good experience here. The locals and long-timers seem to stick with traditional American fare like subs, breakfast sandwiches, fries, and pizza. There is plenty seating in the dining room. The customer service is OK. I recommend placing your food order in advance and especially during lunch hour. Parking is available in front of the store and adjacent to the store, however, it is limited. I appreciate that they have the classic Ms. Pac Man arcade game in the dining room for customer entertainment. The console is beat up all over and seems to be an original. The fact it is still operational is incredible. I will give The Broiler another try when in the area to try other menu items.

This is a solid spot to check out. This has a hole-in-the-wall feel to it but it's somewhere you'll want to go. There's free parking right outside and inside is very casual. Almost cafeteria-like, but clean. Service is very friendly as you place your order with a cashier at the counter. The prices are very reasonable, especially for how much food you get. And the food itself is good. For a small place they actually have a pretty wide variety of choices. For me, I can see this as a keeper. I gave the spicy American steak and cheese a try (very good), while my wife and son both had a delux. And we had fries on the side.

Best in the area for sure. If you asked me to rate another steak and cheese in DMV that was better, I'm not sure if could. High quality steak, good portion. Good customer service...also fast. Was $10 for the half with no side or drink. Worth it.

With each oyster $3.50 per oyster. A bit high when compared to Lyon Hall's oyster happy hour which is $1 an oyster during happy hour. But still not terrible. I enjoyed the oysters! They were fresh and delicious. Though I wish there was more variety as all the oysters picked for the happy hour were on the sweeter side. Would've been nice if one had more saltiness. I wanted to try the salty oysters so I ordered a half a dozen at $3.50 per oyster and those rocked too. I used lemon and hot sauce for my oysters and their homemade hot sauce rocks! The interior of the restaurant looks very nautical and fits with the seafood heavy menu. Also heard the burger and lobster rolls are good will have to try during another visit. Would come again. Maybe not for oysters but def to try other stuff on the menu!

For under $70 two people can have crab cakes benedict, fried brussels, crispy French toast... I don't even remember. Like ten different things! I didn't have to eat again until 9pm. The food was great! Vinny, who was our handler (clearly he has training in special education or something because we that table. Unfortunately, service started off on the wrong foot. There was a very large party already on the patio, and I was seated behind them. I waited about 12-15 minutes before the rest of my group arrived, but no server ever came by. We decided to head inside to get re‑seated, but couldn't find a hostess anywhere. We eventually flagged down a random server in the bar area and asked if a four‑top could be cleared so we could sit there instead. Thankfully, once we moved inside, everything improved dramatically. Service from that point on was attentive and friendly. The "Peoples Hour" menu was a highlight--great pricing without feeling "cheap." Appetizers were $6-10, cocktails $6-8, wines $6, and beers $6.50. The Down & Dirty (a vodka martini variation without vermouth) was solid, and the Out of the Office...Forever rum punch was decent. For food, we tried several items: - Makers Mini Nachos with steak -- Generous toppings but the chips got soggy quickly under all the queso, sour cream, and guac, which is not necessarily a bad thing. - Taco-bout Fish -- Crispy cod with a lemon aioli; one of the better bites of the night. - Drop It Like It's Hot -- Really good chicken tenders with a spicy Comeback sauce. - Lil B sliders -- Nicely cooked and not overdone; the Comeback sauce added a nice kick. The space has an upscale sports‑bar vibe with TVs above and around the bar. Seating can feel tight when it's busy, and the noise level definitely climbs, so keep that in mind if you're looking for a quieter meal. Despite the rocky start, the rest of the evening was enjoyable. Good food, great happy hour pricing, and solid service once we were settled inside. I'd return--just probably not to the patio during a big party.

The brisket was pretty good. Not the best I ever had. However, it had great texture and was thick cut. Dipped in their bbq sauce- it was even better. The grilled wings were great. Fat juicy drums! *I gave my aunt the flats, and she enjoyed them too. The brussels and esquites were great. Im not a big parmesan guy, but on the brussels it surprised me. The cornbread had a great texture as it was moist and held up nice; it wasn't dry and crumbly. I prefer my cornbread sweet though. Id pass on it next time. Upon request, the pickles were great, but the pickled onions not so much. They were more bitter and "onion'y" if you know what I mean (it tastes like they used white onions, the ones that go on hotdogs). Im used to them being a little sweet when I get them from bbq places and even Mediterranean spots. And lastly, I didn't like the blue cheese too much it was more bitter (im used to sweeter blue cheese similar to Ken's). Another thing I'd pass on in the future. Overall, the main courses and sides were good. I recommend and would go back again to get the same things and even try the white meat chicken.

When we made the reservation in advance, we called to ask if happy hour was everywhere or just at the bar; they said everywhere, so we booked a table. Plot twist, it's only at the bar / downstairs :))) We arrived 15 minutes early, so while they got our table ready, we ordered at the bar. 5 stars for the bartender. If I could review her, the host, and the happy hour prices in isolation, I would! They moved us upstairs, we sat down, and immediately saw the menus were different. We asked the gentleman bringing waters about happy hour and he sent the waiter over. The waiter, with about 2% helpfulness, shared that happy hour is only downstairs. I mentioned that we had called in advance to ask. We asked if it would be possible to have that menu or perhaps move. The conversation felt like pulling teeth. He said, with much dismissiveness, it was up to the host downstairs to move and if they had availability and left. (Fair, we move, he doesn't get his tip. An alternative? Give us the happy hour menu, still get your tip. Better yet, just be slightly helpful?) The host downstairs found us a table but shared it was booked at 6:15 so we needed to be in and out. It was no problem because we had arrived before 5 (early, remember?). Although, it took 15 minutes (I timed it!) for anyone to come bring waters or address us as their table. A little hard to operate with urgency when no one takes your order!! I got up, told the host stand, and they sent a server over, and he proceeded to come back all of three times. We also had to flag him down to get our check, while we sat with empty waters that were never once refilled. We had pizza, cod sliders, and half orders of aglio e olio pasta. The cod sliders were more breadding than fish, but the flavor was decent. The pasta was delicious. No five star Italian meal, but it hit the spot and the portion was plentiful. I didn't try the pizza but it was 12 inches, piping hot, and the two eating it couldn't finish it. The food came out quickly and hot. I think we spent under or just about $100 for four folks to have dinner + drinks, so the prices are really solid. Perhaps you get what you pay for though? Both of our male servers seemed annoyed to be dealing with us and mostly unhelpful. Noteworthy mention: there was a female server who was kind enough to bring us a brown paper bag for our to go box. She was running around and her tables seemed well cared for. Disappointed in my experience and the customer service.
