Ahhhhh love this cute little store!!! It's not very big. However, they have lots of fun grocery items from Europe. Everything is imported from England/ London and the price does reflect that. Still, no biggie for me. I'm fine with paying the higher price since they imported it for me lol I enjoyed going on vacation to different parts of England. It's always hard when you travel to another county and want to bring back a bunch of souvenirs for friends and family, but you don't have the space in your suitcase. Bummer lol Not to worry, you can find gift items here! They sell chocolates and candies from England. That's fun! They have bags, cooking mitts, and pot holders that are cute. Cards and magnets, along with fun items you can find from England. I could buy up all the things in this store! It's so cool! I grabbed a rum butter and Guinness infused chocolates. Yum!! Until now I've never really batted an eye at exploring British cuisine; I had heard that they had some great food but I've always primarily associated Britain with tea (I know, typical American), which is weird because I've always been fascinated by the UK, it's storied rich history, traditions, and customs! But after a hearty lunch at The Olde Ship and several visits to The British Grocer, I can say that the journey towards exploring all the culinary delights of the United Kingdom has officially begun! The British Grocer is a quaint little store hidden inside a larger unassuming building. Once you walk in you're greeted by its lovely and helpful employees who really do an amazing job introducing you to all their items and answering your questions. You'll find imported candies, canned goods, jams & marmalades, hair products, you name it, they'll probably have it! The only thing they didn't have was Tangfastics (Killing Eve fans wya?); I'll just buy a tub of it online again. When I do visit this spot now I usually get their candies, tea, jams, digestives (that's biscuits for you uncultured Americans), and clotted cream, which goes SO well with their jams! Also plentiful are trinkets, apparel, and other accessories adorned with the union jack, so if you want to feel "Rule Britannia" surge through your body, you most certainly can. Overall, a great little shop that shows you a glimpse of what the legendary island nation has to offer! A bit pricey of course but you won't find many of the items here elsewhere or even online. This is a cute store to cross off once if you're curious, but I don't see myself ever coming back. Most of the items are imported but the price feels a bit much even then. I came in search of some short bread cookies and also to check this place off my list because I had been curious for quite some time. I was low key disappointed, and even more so that the shortbread I had purchased of a brand named Reid from Scotland tasted old and stale. The package doesn't expire until 2 more months, but I wish I had double checked the dates before purchasing because I believe many stores will even pull products off their shelves 3 months before it expires. This tells me the turn around for the imports is slow and no one is rushing to buy the stuff. This is a small store that probably will be nostalgic for some, but it disappointing overall for me. I guess I'll go back to venturing at World Market instead. read more

This time I had both the address and the fact it was inside a building called Villa Del Sol so I found the British Grocer. Went through the archway in front of the building, walked straight across the courtyard, and found the British Grocer. Looked around inside. Saw many interesting things. Friendly associates and a nice selection of teas, vaious groceries, tea pots, and gifts.

Everything about this charming little grocery store reminded me of when I visited a small corner shop in a quaint countryside village in England; from the dim lighting, relatively large assortment of teas to even the work desk behind the counter! I probably made at least 5 trips around that store just to make sure I took everything in. I love trying snacks from around the world and this place has a good assortment of chocolate, biscuits and sweets from England. I picked up a candy bar, a bag of hard candies and 2 (real!!) Cadbury eggs and it was about $8.50, which is very reasonable, given the shipping costs. There's even a small refrigerated section where they carry double cream, cheeses, an assortment of drinks and even haggis! To add to the charm, the 2 women behind the counter were very sweet and pleasant to talk to. I love finding little gems like this, especially now that we aren't traveling as much. For now, I'm enjoying exploring our new and surrounding towns and I'm looking forward to coming back here and trying more British food! read more

Love this shop! Great selection of British biscuits, sweets, tea, tea sets, beverages, etc. Also some great frozen pot pies, sausage rolls and scotch eggs that they bring over from The Olde Ship. Not too expensive either, considering the cost of importing, etc. Please note that although it says they open at 9:00 am... that wasn't the case. A gentleman came to open the shop around 9:05, but then said he had to go to the bank, and didn't come back until 9:35. I'm always looking to help the local business and this hidden gem is located in the Villa Del Sol building, off Harbor and Amerige?... they share the same building as Hildalgo and The Cellar. There's a parking lot behind the building, but behind that is a parking garage, where you can park for 3 hours. Currently, during COVID time, the street where you normally turn in from Harbor is block off to allow people to dine al fresco. You may get sticker shock on the items, but then realize it's shipped from the UK. If you want stuff cheaper, hop on the plane or find a buddy in the UK to ship it to you. Shipping, by the way will cost you about $90 if you try to do it that way (trust me, I tried). It's not a huge store, but it will satisfy any cravings if you need digestives, teas, biscuits, or a quirky tea cozy or tea towel. read more

What a wonderful store! Tucked away inside the beautiful & historic Villa Del Sol, "The British Grocer" is a quaint & charming little hidden gem in downtown Fullerton. Featuring goods imported from the U.K., it's a pleasure browsing their many items including a variety of British teas with delicate tea pots & cups, candies, biscuits & cookies, snack foods, Heinz Beanz, soups, custards, beverages, mushy peas, HP Sauce & other condiments, jams, double devon cream, & much more. Under the same ownership as nearby "Ye Olde Ship" British pub, "The British Grocer" also carries some of the pub's popular items in their own freezer (e.g., sticky toffee pudding, sausage rolls, pasties, meat pies, & more). Although I was a bit disappointed to find a few items past their expiration date (be careful before you purchase), & there were no scones nor crumpets available today, the young gentleman (Donovan) working there was so kind & helpful that he made my visit an absolute delight! I'm so happy I no longer need to search all over for some my favourite treats --- (especially sticky toffee pudding). The British Grocer is a cute store located in the charming Villa del Sol shopping center. As you might have guessed, they sell everything British- food, souvenirs, home decor, a bit of everything. It has a decent selection (comparing to stores of this type), it has a decent size and has OK customer service. So, if you want a great selection of teas, they got it, bangers, scones, pies (mince pies included), different typed of Kit Kat, cool candies, tea cosies, "Keep Calm and Carry on" type merch, British sodas, etc. As you can imagine, prices are a bit high, but this isn't the type of place where you'd go on a regular basis, here and there, just to shop for fun, satisfy a craving, get something more unusual, exotic, very British... read more

Love this place. It's been around my entire life, and we've picked up meat pies over the years from their fridge section as a staple in our house. Dating a Brit, I now have a way bigger appreciation for their supply of British goods that you cannot find anywhere else here in the US. With covid, my boyfriend hasn't been able to go back to the UK for over a year now, and this place is giving him a taste of home, which feels especially important in these difficult times. Not only do they have a great selection of imports, their fresh foods and frozen goods from The Olde Ship are so tasty and provide and easy and delicious meal at home. They are always so welcoming when you go in and I have to say after our most recent visit, the young woman who runs it is probably one of the nicest and friendliest people I've come across in Southern California. They carry a lot of hard to find items from the UK, like Bangers, Black & White Pudding, Rashers, Flake Bars, Malteasers, Aero Bars, Mushy Peas ... enough to make my London-born wife feel right at home. Staff is very friendly and helpful. It's located inside a big building (a former Hotel back in the early 1900s) called Villa del Sol, parking is around the back or on Wilshire Ave (Wilshire Ave may be blocked off at Harbor Blvd so you may need to turn a block early and come in from the west). They have a restaurant/bar associated with them that's pretty good, The Olde Ship, a few blocks north of them on Harbor Blvd. read more

Alright, I'll admit it.. I'm a huge anglophile. My grandmother was from London, so I've always had a fascination.. and when I finally got the chance to go to the UK it was love at first sight. My husband and I even decided to get married in Scotland... so we are serious in our UK addiction. My husband found the British Grocer to buy me some stocking stuffers and food to recreate our favorite full English from Regency Cafe in London. Prices are of course steep because everything is imported, but I can tell you I have not been able to eat great bacon rashers from any British restaurant around here, so buying some from the British grocer and making them at home as brought me back to our favorite meal in London. The trick that most restaurants seem to miss is that they need to be fried in a bit of olive oil. It's not like our bacon (which the British would call "streaky bacon") which produces enough oil just by the fat cooking off. If you don't do it right you'll end up with a weird soggy piece of ham- this is what I've encountered at local pubs in CA. I am more than happy to make a full english myself because it has come out just like the real thing. They have a great variety of jams, candies, and groceries. I wish they had a few more varieties of crisps, as Tayto is just "meh" to me, and the interesting flavors of crisps in the UK is one of my favorite things. I should also mention that this store is in the cutest little courtyard in DTF. It's worth visiting just to look around! read more

The girls in my family are throwing an English Tea Party to celebrate all the April birthdays. So in my search for clotted cream, I found the British Grocer located in downtown Fullerton. The store is located just north of Wilshire Avenue in the Villa Del Sol plaza. They are open 7 days a week and the owners name is Jackie. She mentioned that I could always call her to put aside something or she could ship items to my house as well. The store itself is not huge, but still larger than I was expecting. I'm originally from Canada (born and raised) so a lot of the items here are familiar to me. You can also find some of these items at World Market, but they don't carry as much variety. I think I was having too much fun looking around in here. My husband and I were in London last year and recognized some of the drinks as well. Just to name a few of the things they carry..... Great selection of British goodies, I especially loved all the chocolates (they have some of my old faves that I can't find anywhere else!), and it's great that they offer hard to find frozen foods such as pies, sausage rolls, potato bread, British bacon and sausages. Finally made a stop at this lovely gem of a store earlier this week and am very glad I made it. I have had a love of all things from the UK most of my life and have visited several shops in LA but never knew of this spot until recently. The shop has many items to offer. Most grocery items were not price marked but bear in mind that these are all imported goods so don't mind spending a little more for what you're looking for. I was quite short with time, so I just grabbed some candy (including my favorite, Lion), crisps, biscuits and deli condiments. The woman at the counter was very nice and pleasant. Never knew there is this cute little british grocer tucked away in the court yard of the villa del sol. I was just taking a stroll and end up visiting this place. I am surprised by my finding, (since I was born in HK while it was under the British colony, we are heavily influenced with the UK products) I was able to find my childhood favourite drinks and candies - ribena and smarties, rowntrees and maltesers. Oh and canned ketchup baked beans. I know it all sounded silly but I tried looking everywhere for ketchup baked beans in regular grocery, it just doesn't exist. You got milliom versions of mexican style baked beans, just not british style. However, it had short shelve life from the ones I found here. Watch out for that. It is a cute little grocer that brings nostalgic memories for me. It has quite some selection of British signatures grocery. Just saw some other reviews that they sell pies and scones, will surely be back to check those out ! read more

Stumbled upon this place totally by accident, when we ate at the Brownstone Cafe next door. I was praying that they would have Garibaldi biscuits, since Sunshine no longer makes Golden Biscuits in the US. They did! I bought two packages but should have picked up more, I think. I was looking at all the little candies, wafers and foodie things and didn't even look at much else. Half of the store had lovely little proper English tea sets. I was afraid to really venture into that part, as I can be clumsy around such things. A lady called to me from the back of the store. I hadn't even noticed her when I walked in. I paid for my biscuits and had a lovely conversation with her. If she expanded out into the courtyard and did tea time, I'd drive out for it.
