Honestly, really disappointed by this establishment. I've been here multiple times and although most have been pleasant, tonight's incident truly changed my final thoughts. This bar actually allowed its bouncers to kick out a repeat customer on the account of her being in the men's restroom cleaning up vomit out of her hair/belongings. Another person threw up in the middle of the bar, with the majority of it ending up on my friend, and instead the victim in the situation was threw out of the bar by being in the men's room because "this is how you get raped" as, apparently, being in another gender's restroom (only because the women's was occupied with many people in line). The individual who threw up on the floor happily walked out & laughed at a few of our other friends upon leaving; actively owning up (& not in a tactful manner) to vomiting on our friend. The fact that the bouncer had the audacity to shame an innocent victim in this situation is disgusting. I love this bar; it has a great atmosphere & generally provides a great time. This situation is very disappointing and honestly shows me the true colors of this establishment. Very unfortunate. read more

SUPER PACKED with t shirts and flip flops. Too much casual wear for me. It was a DIVE. The space was NOT spacious, super difficult to get from the front of the bar to the back. The bouncers stole cash from me. I only say this because 5 minutes after I walked into the bar, I realized my wallet was missing. So I was frantically looking for my wallet and the bouncer comes up to me, hands me my wallet and says "LOOKS LIKE YOU WERE LOOKING FOR THIS?"... First off how did he know it was mine? It seems like he would only know it was mine if he took it out of my purse. I then realize cash was missing and I go up and ask him, do you know who turned it in, all my cash is gone? he says "IDK THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE IN HERE." Like excuse me, you couldn't even make up a description. Honestly whatever, the bouncer clearly needed my $50 more than me, go buy yourself some groceries. Came here on a Wednesday night with a friend to shoot some pool. It was practically empty, and I'd best describe it as an upscale dive bar, if that makes any sense. Cool-looking bar, but it gets hot and stuffy. Lots of hipsters. I didn't really like the music, it was pretty all over the place. The cocktails were expensive considering how low-key this place was.... why is it so hard to find a cocktail under $10 in LA? I heard this place gets to be more poppin on different weeknights, so I'd come back. Not too exciting for a first impression, though! read more

Haha. Interesting crowd. Hung out here in this divey watering hole to get out of the hot sun. Dark and dingy. Drinks are so-so. I'd stick with the beer. The bar tender was very sweet. She spent a while chatting with us and she was a lot of fun to talk to. Guys shooting pool in the back were rowdy but not in an annoying way. It added to the atmosphere of the place almost like they were hired to act like the cliche "guys playing pool in the back of a dive bar". The biggest complaint was I had a really long wait for the one co-ed restroom in the joint from which 3 girls finally emerged. I don't want to guess what they were doing in there but by the looks of them they were teasing their hair and applying generous portions of lipstick. omg. what. ever. read more

This place has gone downhill fast....I had a horrible experience this past Saturday night, with a bouncer who had a serious attitude problem. He was going down the line checking ID's and was rude and nasty for absolutely no reason at all. If you're interested in waiting in a long line to get in and paying $15 for a watered down drink, this is the place for you. This was a 5 star bar a few years back and now has the feel of a drunken frat house. Now this is my kind of bar. Awesome beer selection, cute, friendly bartender, DJ playing a great mix of both modern and classic tunes and comfortably not super crowd around 9pm on a Thursday night. I imagine that it can turn clusterfucky* later on in the night on a weekend but based on my experience last week, this is my new favorite bar in Venice. I've been a huge fan of Reiss Co's restaurants/bars for years and years while I lived in LA - including A-Frame, Alibi Room, Salt Air, Sunny Spot, and The Brig. I used to love coming to the Brig after a nice dinner on Abbott Kinney, so thought I'd relive this with friends while we were in town this past weekend. Unfortunately, we had the WORST experience and the bartenders were so rude, pretentious, and unprofessional. I ordered the beer/shot special for 3 of my friends, and ordered a chilled vodka shot for myself. I also asked him for a coke back. He asked me, "For what?" I simply responded that I just wanted to use it as a chaser. (The long answer that I did not owe him was that I wasn't good at taking shots, but wanted to do so as camaraderie with my visiting friends). He laughed at me and proceeded to question me. "Are you serious? Why do you need a chaser if it's chilled?" He even pulled aside his bartender friend to show him how "ridiculous" my order was. My bartender returned with the bill and I'm staring with confusion. A part of me was waiting for him to tell me that he was joking. Instead, he snapped at me, "Don't you eye roll me." I remind him that my order is for him to make, and that my order is for me to drink. When I told him, "You don't need to judge me." He flatly responded with, "I am judging you." Needless to say, I did not provide a tip. I eventually went through Yelp to see if other customers have had similar experiences as I did, and I was relieved yet sadden that they did. Many voiced that the bartenders were rude, would sneak in extra charges, and implied that the bartenders/management were racist. I don't know why this particular bartender was such a dick. I hope it was NOT due to my race. Regardless of the reason, there's only one thing I expect when I go out to a bar or restaurant and that is CUSTOMER SERVICE. The Brig is unfortunately not what it used to be. To the slicked back hair smug bartender: If you are reading this, let me remind you... you are a bartender at a dive bar - not a vodka expert/connoisseur/god. Learn how to do your job. read more

Free parking, good drinks and sometimes some very good dancing? I love it. The bathrooms are clean? How do they do it? The house makes a very good pineapple martini. One of the DJ's is a drummer and brings some cool insight to the record selection. It is not a big club or a small bar. It has an industrial vibe. The crowd seems to be a mix of locals and tourists of the pretty good looking variety. It's casual but nice so make a little effort and you will feel at home. Stop by on a lazy weeknight when the coolest crowd shuffles in.;) read more

I love coming to this bar! It's close to home, they play good music, great drinks, and it's very diverse. I've never had to wait in line when I've came here. And no not because I'm a girl but the lines go rather quickly in. Don't get me wrong this place does get packed. They have a couple tables if you'd like to sit down and a dance floor if you want to get your boogie on. They have a good selection of music, hip hop. Bartenders are quick and friendly, and make good drinks. They also have a pool table, not that I've ever played but just in case you're into that kind of thing. Congrats to The Brig's for a successful first crawfish boil! The event definitely oversold, and they continued to bring out crawfish by the bucket every 30 minutes or so. Should have gotten there early! By the time 1pm hit, the parking lot was packed, and every table was basically full. Those who had not snatched a seat were forced to hijack their servings from another table or wait to be personally served. The deal was that the boil was served family style, so people would come around and deliver trays of crawfish, potatoes, and corn straight to the tables. Seasoning was spicy but delicious, and the crawfish were incredibly fresh. If you planned to eat your money's worth, you should have definitely come earlier. AYCD budweiser was a great plan, and there were games of corn hole to pass the time. Great atmosphere, and I'll definitely be back for next year's boil! read more

In years past, this dive bar was so dangerous that the local cops at the Pacific Station referred to it as a "blood bucket" bar. Today, Abbot Kinney Blvd. has been so gentrified that the Brig is not as rough as it was 20 years ago. But, if you value courteous service from the employees and polite patrons, I strongly suggest you look elsewhere. read more

The renovations are great and it's super nice that they have a spacious outdoor seating area. The bar staff however had such a bad attitude last weekend. My friend and I both ordered drinks on two separate occasions during the night, and it took such a long time for us to place our order because we couldn't catch the attention of the bartenders. It's almost like they purposefully didn't make eye contact or let us know they'll be right with us. Then, when I finally got a chance to order I asked the bartender for a menu and he slammed it on the counter in front of me. It was so off-putting. Good place to grab a beer and socialize. I came here with a few friends on a Tuesday night. It's a really casual place and most people were hanging out by the bar talking or playing games near the back. We weren't really feeling the music and the DJ was pretty rude to my friends when they requested a song so we left pretty quickly. I did get a Moscow mule there which was pretty good. This is actually a pretty cool place. I'd never been to a dive bar that had dancing. It's a bit crowded and small, but very laid back. Interesting crowd that could be good for people watching. There were no seats left the bar or anywhere at all except near the pool table and even then, we were getting hit on by old farts. And they should really consider remodeling. This is pretty much a standard LA bar scene. Dudes wearing $500 t-shirts and rip jeans, hoping to impress girls wearing $1000 couture dresses that are made to look like they found them at the Salvation Army. The drink selection is pretty standard. No cover is definitely a huge plus. Tuesday night jazz is really the reason you should come to this place. The place does get rockin once the band starts. Dance floor is a little small, so if you have a little spot, make sure you fill it in with your friends. read more

There was something quirky but downright fun about the Brig on a Tuesday night. Sure, I heard from both reviews on here and from people talking in the bar that some of the other nights are pretty dead and lackluster but Tuesday was an absolute joy to be at the Brig - something that anyone looking for a little no cover live music should try and stop by to see. When I went, there was no cover and the place was fairly bustling. There's a pool table in the back (seemed pretty heavily occupied so good luck getting there if you wanted to play) and a pretty attentive staff at the bar area. Drinks are fairly normal priced (around $7-$12 for well drinks). The real highlight was the fairly interesting jazz quartet set up in the middle (along with the occasional help of a DJ). Although they might not look like it, they're pretty darn good and fun to watch. It helps that there was an old skipper who was dancing with a random, absolutely tall blonde chick along with a break dancing yoga instructor and some other fun faces. Parking was no hassle on a Tuesday with plenty of street and private lot parking (skip the valet if there is one and just park in the back area) and the people are fairly friendly if not mostly just engaged in the live music. If you're bored on a Tuesday night and around the area, hopefully the quartet will be playing along with all the colorful cast. It made my night. read more

I could see how this place could get a bad wrap. But, I didnt have a bad time either of the times I stopped in. The first time was a full on raging evening and the crowd was top-notch. The second time was a day session and we were the only people in there to watch some football and hang out. The bartenders are killer. Nice. Speedy. Descent spot in Venice, CA. It's on Abbot Kinney and they have pool tables and couches...I'd give it 5 stars but they could fit more bar stools at the bar and the drinks are a bit pricey for a bar like this. $12.00 for a Red Bull Vodka seems pretty steep. They have an alright beer list but nothing to write home about I believe drafts are $5.00 which is fair. They have sports playing but it seems like it's missing something? Not sure what but nothing special. The service is okay but not overly friendly and the drink menu is just okay. Like I said, it's missing something... The location is great and it's never too crowded. I'd suggest a good place to meet for a beverage before going to dinner or after but there are better places...however, not on Abbott Kinney. I've been coming here from time to time for the past 8 years and I've never had any wow factor! read more

They served me when I was under age and I will have a special place in my heart for The Brig forever for that very reason. But since the remodel and upgrade, its just another bar with overpriced drinks and blue lights. But the other Yelpers are correct - there is decent parking. Drink selection isn't bad either, although it's clearly not a place for connoisseurs. What kills it? We thought we saw an extra bar stool? Asked the bartender about it even, he said sure, pull it up. Turns out it was broken as we found out about 2 minutes of sitting later, and the bouncer clearly knew.
