This is a new pub to the Dover area. The atmosphere is nice. Great ceilings and old building in old mill town. Lots of wood and stools and seating and bar space and pool tables and games! While celebrating my sister's 30th birthday, earlier plans to check out "The Farm" fell through and thus my sister recommended the Brick House. Quite the find for a last-minute destination and especially with our party's wide-ranging diet needs. Their beer selection alone is worth a stop over, including Czech pilseners, Parabola artisan ales, and many more styles. Then, with my ordering of fish tacos, decently season haddock combined well with a milder than expected habanero salsa in three corn tortillas and laid over by a red cabbage slaw. The arroz con frijoles (rice with beans) held well on their own. With the entire entrée being under $10, it's quite the monetary value for the portions of food. The Dover Brickhouse is everything you want in a local bar. It's got a great menu, with pub food and some more gourmet surprises, good music, a (usually!) friendly staff, and patrons ranging from professionals after work to bikers and heavily tattooed musician types. The room upstairs is pretty well set up for bands, and despite how crowded it can get, you can always get a drink pretty quickly. They also have a wide range of shows and other mixed performances, and are generally willing to try anything in their space. Some of the regulars are a bit stand-offish, myself included, but its really all bark, which adds to the character of the place. And the owners are constantly improving the place. This review is an overall rating of Brick House. I've been here far too many times to count, past and present. First, this place is great for beer - large variety and great selection of beers on tap at good prices. They also have a 'cash is king' night, where you get a discount off your food/beer when paying in cash, which is pretty cool. Food on the other hand, has been hit or miss - you gotta know what to order, and after coming here enough, I know this now. I basically avoid all salads - they appear pre-made and stored in the fridge until someone orders them. I understand it saves time but there have been times where I've bitten into squishy cherry tomatoes and dried out cucumbers. Not really appetizing. I had also ordered a blackened chicken caesar awhile back that was unbearably salty - I ended up just eating the greens. I'd stick with the 'pub' food - Burgers, Pulled Pork Nachos (deliciousss!), grilled chicken sandwiches, etc. Service can also be hit or miss - Most of the girls that waitress seem very young and are likely not veterans of the food service industry - there have been times where I'm sure I've waited at least 1 hour for my entree to come out, or have had my food forgotten to be entered into the computer. I understand, things get slammed, busy and back orders up. It doesn't help that the kitchen is pretty small for the amount of tables and seats in the restaurant. I recall at least one time our nachos (which we had ordered as an appetizer to start), and our entrees, both came out at the same time. What's up with that? My boyfriend and I have been living in Dover for 8 months now and finally decided we would give this place a try. We throughly regret that decision. Drinks were prompt but that's about it. Not only did we wait an hour for a Caesar salad and shrimp tacos, but from our table we could see straight into the kitchen. My boyfriends food (along with many other guests food) sat for 25 minutes under the heat lamp while mine was being made. Once mine was done we watched the kitchen take his salad to the back where we assume they reheated the steak tips that were on it. Making matters worse, the kitchen staff was using their bare hands to grab food and maneuver it around the guest's plates. This was an unsettling site as we "anxiously" awaited our meals. In short, this was a real disappointment. We live of walking distance to this place and would definitely frequent it as we do with all other local spots but this was just unacceptable. read more

Hats off to the Brickhouse! Along with a carefully crafted menu, the best, most eclectic beer selection and live music scene in Dover the staff is what rounds this restaurant/bar into a perfect 10. I frequented the "Brick" for years before I decided to work there as a second job to support my constant spending in that very establishment :) As a previous employee and still a frequent regular, I can attest to the fact that the Brickhouse is not only outstanding as a patron but as an employee as well. The owners are attentive, educated and experienced in all aspects of this business and it shows to customers and is mirrored through the stellar staff that dedicates their time and often times their weekends as twenty-something's to provide you with above average service, cold craft beer and delicious food! Been going to the Brick House for years. Great spot for good beers and bar food. The draft list has grown leaps and bounds over the last few years. Always a warm (sometimes loud) spot. I went recently after a long hiatus. It was a busy week night and service was all over the place. We worked with 3 different servers, some could take a drink order, others couldn't. Went through long spells of not seeing a server at all. Seemed completely unorganized. Regardless, food and drinks were good and we had happy company. When it came time to pay, half the table paid with card while the other half paid with cash. I was a card payer and noticed that an additional 4% was added onto my bill AFTER I GAVE THEM MY CARD. Server told me that customers are now responsible for the card fee from their processing provider. In the end, it's not the end of the world but the charge should be added prior to final transaction. Left us all a little salty but at the end of the day we'll still go back. Also, Thursday's musicians are annoyingly loud. read more

I went here with a party of 8 people on a Sunday at 12:30 for brunch. We were greeted and drinks were ordered in a reasonable amount of time. Around 12:45 we ordered. There wasn't much of a wait but there were several tables that were seated right around the time that we ordered. At 1:45 I inquired about where our food was as it had been nearly an hour since ordering. She informed me that the kitchen had run out of eggs and someone had to go to the store to get more eggs. She assured me our order would be out next. I watched as 2 of the tables seated well after we ordered were served. At 2pm our food was finally delivered. It was solidly tasty and even though the price point was a bit on the high side. To add insult to injury, not all of our food came. My friend, who's birthday we were there celebrating had not received her meal. Several minutes passed and another tables food was delivered. One of the food runners asked her if she had ordered anything and she told him what she had ordered. He told her he would check on it and then disappeared into the kitchen. The server came over and said, did your order not come? What was it again? Oh I thought you had the burrito. NOPE! she went to the computer punched something in and Dr. B's food arrived about 8 minutes later. When the bill came there was no credit, no comp'd drinks, NOTHING. I asked the server if she could do anything about that as we had waited over an hour for our food. She informed me there was nothing they would do and the kitchen manager flat out REFUSED to even consider doing anything for us. She told me the average ticket time was not exceeded (45 minutes is the average) and they would do nothing for us. In the end I asked her to buy our friend (who's birthday it was) a drink and she agreed. Poor service, even worse management. read more

We went for wing night and had about an hour wait for a table, which would have been okay had they not given away several tables that had opened up to groups of similar size who had arrived after us. After ordering wings it took almost another hour for our food to arrive with no updates from our waitress during that time. I've been to the Brickhouse a couple of times now and I think I'm ready to put in my review. Went here this past Saturday to watch Mark's band open for Boring Kind of Guy upstairs in the music venue they have there. We decided to grab a bite to eat at the bar before heading upstairs for the show and we easily snagged a spot when another couple was leaving. We ordered our usual Jameson and ginger ale and waited a few minutes for the bartender to bring us some food menus. We ordered the mini cheeseburgers with fries. Seriously though, what is ON those french fries? Crack sauce? They were delicious. And the mini burgers? Also friggin awesome. I always run into the not-enough-burger-for-the-bun issue when I order mini burgers but at the Brickhouse, that's not an issue. I had two mini cheeseburgers and it was enough for my meal with the fries. They were juicy, delicious and on a soft asiago bun. Definitely give these a shot if you stop in here and are in need of a burger fix. Once we had filled our bellies with magical burger and french fry goodness, we headed upstairs to the venue. What a great space. The bar is big enough to not have to wait for a drink for 15 minutes every time you need one, but not so big that it intrudes on the space of the room. This place was packed and there was still room to move, room to grab a drink and clearly... room to form a mosh pit where you and your mohawked friends can beat the hell out of each other in the name of metal. Sorry to the guy I heeled in the chest when I was shooting the show... but actually? Ya know what? Sorry I'm not sorry. If you can punch yourself in the face for fun, I'm sure my heel to your chest was no big deal.. and besides, you almost crushed me to death. Moving on... The staff at the Brickhouse is friendly, efficient and attentive. The girl with the dark hair in the upstairs bar greeted me each and every time I approached her with a smile and a hello. Wait staff is pretty up to date on what they're out of, but every time I come to this location for food, I am turned away due to the kitchen is closed right after brunch, or I try to order something on their menu they are out of for grub. Very little space lends to a constant feeling of near-claustrophobia and always being in someone's way, especially the servers (which probably explains why the service has never been great). I've been here dozens of times, mostly to catch bands upstairs, and the food is always great. Unfortunately, especially when eating downstairs, the service is so horrible it completely outweights how good the food is. For example, I stopped in on Sunday and when I entered the restaurant there were three other tables full and a couple of people at the bar. Upon entering, three waitresses turned and looked at us and then looked away and ignored us - not very welcoming. Our waitress seemed to be in a rush to get us out of there the entire time we were eating even though the place was not busy and they were nowhere close to closing. The desserts are absolutely terrible and way overpriced. There isn't really a reason to go back here with Sonny's up the street, considering their food is better and their service is amazing. read more

She didn't instruct that you sign up on a list to wait for a table thus several folks after I came in signed the list afterwards. Meaning we had to wait longer. Then when I asked her why she didn't tell me about the list she said she did and walked away. Lying to my face and ignoring me- How do you expect to have returning customers if you don't care about the people coming into your establishment. They finally got a white beer in stock (UFO White) which made me very happy. I've never had their pizza. Dover is NOT lacking in pizza options, and Brick House is never going to be the place I go to for pizza. But their appetizers (super cheesey nachos - NOT just on the top layer!), Red Sox menu (and drink specials!) during games, and their great salad selection keep me coming back. Usually have good music playing and the place scores points for not being pretentious. Nice food presentation and relatively friendly staff. read more

I kind of miss the Brickhouse.... but not really. Don't come for food. Don't come for an interesting beer selection. Don't come here expecting to get a shot a playing pool (it will take forever on a busy night... but during the week it may just be all yours). Come to sit down stairs on a weeknight when there is no "big game" going on and you might be able to sit in a booth, run the over-priced digital juke box, and enjoy a crisp, cool blueberry ale with friends. Or pay the cover and head upstairs to see your local "favorites" (different nights for the metal kids, hipster kids, droney kids, and whatnot to keep us all in our places). I've quit smoking and I do terribly miss sitting up stairs and chain smoking my way through friend's sets. read more

Food here is great, beer selection is great, service is terrible. Probably the worst I've seen at any restaurant. We have a running joke that if you eat at the brickhouse you won't leave for at least an hour and a half. This is not even an exaggeration. Whether it's Sunday brunch, dinner, lunch, busy, not so busy, it doesn't matter. People love to meet up here and I often dread going just because it takes so long to get any kind of service whatsoever. I have been stuck in this place for over 2 hours at times due to the poor service. I've also had to get up and get my own silverware more times than I could count on one hand which is ridiculous. If the food wasn't so good I would never set foot in this place. But it is! Excellent comfort food... Just don't expect to get in and out within a reasonable time. read more

Place was dirty. All the tables were were not wiped down and there was food all over the floor. The menu had food smeared on it. My shephard's pie was cold in the middle. My boyfriend's burger was good - that was about it. There was only a few people in the restaurant so there was no reason why the place should have dirty tables and floor. This place has a great atmosphere. We have been here a couple times and the servers were friendly and quick. The pulled pork Mac and Cheese was to die for. The French onion soup was just ok. So by chance I stopped in for Breakfast on a Sunday becuase my usual place is now too busy to get a seat on a sunday and to my surprise the breakfast was awesome !!!!, place was busy and the wait time is a little bit longer but they tell you that on the menu that every thing is made to order, and i can tell you it is worth the wait. prices are good too. I have been going back for breakfast and not even bothering to go back to my previous place, why bother, The brick house has got it going on for breakfast. I have not been there outside of breakfast but curious to see what lunch or dinner menus provide. The only downside and I know its a bar, but the music is a little bit too loud to enjoy having conversation with your guest, but can be tolerated. They either have music playing or a live music which is nice. staff has been friendly and nice. read more
