And yet I had the best chilaquiles, the best biscuits and gravy and the best breakfast taco of my life here all in the same sitting. Everything I had was an intentional and successful refinement of a North American classic. Best brunch ever. The owner was working. He's charming, interesting and very intentional about his cuisine. It shows in both the product and his discussion of it, which he offers freely. The other staff were also very attentive, wonderfully friendly and extremely helpful. The space is exactly what I'd expect given the food and people in it: charming, eclectic and comfortable. They also have regular live music. I haven't been back for that yet. Given how outstanding everything else I've experienced here was, I'm sure it will be top notch. Absolutely come here. You'll be back, too.

Though the décor leaves much to be desired, the food definitely did not disappoint. The collar green dip is exactly what you expect, and it was very tasty! Though I would recommend a different kind of chip to dip it in because the seasoning of both the pita chips and the dip felt a little overpowering. The jerk chicken egg rolls were well seasoned to the point where you didn't need the sauce, but the sauce does add a nice subtle heat. I ordered the whole snapper which was fried to perfection and reminiscent of fried whole snapper you would get in the Caribbean. The sweet potatoes were the perfect amount of sweet and the broccoli was lightly seasoned yet still flavorful. Our server was attentive, the food came quickly, and I'd actually come back again the next time I'm in the area.

It was my first visit to Johnel's restaurant. It was packed in there because they had an inhouse generator that kept the place open for business. It was like Brookfield zoo in there, very crowded and it appears some the animals escaped captivity and came here for breakfast. My breakfast was adequate but nothing above and beyond. The ham was thin, with burned areas and not off the bone as I like it, but oh well. The coffee was bitter, I probably could have scrubbed and cleaned a frying pan with it. I was hungry, the price was right and I was satisfied. The service was good. My server was painfully pierced and tattooed and if the wind got a hold of her, she's look like a sheet of wallpaper flying down the street.
