Borough Pub Sampler

How have I been here so many times and NOT written a raving review? The Borough Pub is a large bar located right within the borough. I have never had a bad meal here. They serve the basic bar fare + many additional selections including weekly specials. Always something new to try and always a welcoming smile with attentive service.

Soup, salad and pretzel fries.

Our first visit, and we will definitely come back. Instantly greeted upon entering. Large, clean and bright dining room with a bar off to the side. Was not noisy at all! Waitress immediately came to table and was so friendly. We got the Chicken Parmigiana and Country Fried Chicken entrees. They came with soup or salad. We each had one of each. The salad was fresh, the soup was definitely homemade and creamy (chicken corn chowder). We also got Pretzel Fries as an appetizer. They came with mustard. A beer cheese might be taster. Our meals were fresh, very hot, and very large portions! At the end of our meal the manager came over to check on us, which was a great touch! We will definitely be coming again!

The Borough Pub on Farragut Avenue, Bristol, PA, is a pleasant joint to stop for a beer or two, and a light bite if hungry. Although it is located on a fairly forlorn stretch of old Bristol Borough, the inside is a cozy knotty pine paneled long room with rectangular bar up front, and dining room/kitchen farther back. Prices are appropriate for the neighborhood, and there is a decent brewlist for those who enjoy a long draught of pilsner. They currently have a Yelp check in bonus of a domestic draft (not a crafty). I had a light beer with my meal. Son and I stopped in for dinner recently for the first time, and were impressed. The space was well maintained, the staff friendly, chatty and accommodating; and the kitchen better than expected. I went with a small bowl of French Onion Soup and their "Pubrogies," a version of the popular Polish dough pockets stuffed with mashed potatoes, and covered in a nice mix of sautéed onions, green peppers and jalapeno, with a large dollop of sour cream on top of it all. Son with younger and larger appetite, ordered the Cheesesteak Spring Rolls and Honey Chipotle Pulled Pork (Chipotle sauced shredded pork with melted pepper jack, on a jalapeno cheddar brioche bun). Everything was good to nearly great. The soup, perhaps the weakest link, had the right savoriness, but lacked the crusty bread and load of wine soaked onions of the original recipe from Les Halles. The "rogies," were tasty with a nice kick from the hot pepper, and balanced well against the inner mashed. The spring rolls were larger than anticipated, crisp and crammed with beef, cheese, onions and peppers. A kicky ketchup came along for the ride for dipping. The pulled pork was devoured by son (didn't offer me a bite) - always an indication that he was enthralled and unwilling to share. Glad he liked it so much. Our server, Dawn, had a great attitude. Around just enough to keep everything refilled and moving, with a sense of humor and bonhomie. Borough Pub is a place to relax, sip and chew in an atmosphere that is both family and sporty. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and as a result, it is a cool place to kick back and catch some sports and conversation with people you enjoy.

I learned later that this restaurant has been around since the early to mid 1900's. Plenty of parking in a large open lot. The place is very large and has one of the longest bars I've seen. The wood is very dark and you can see the chefs cooking over the hearth. They don't take reservations and won't see you until your entire party is there. One of the things I liked for our party of 10 was they had no problems with seating as they also have many large round tables. For mixed drinks, they make them pretty big and potent. For my martini, they sent back an extra glass. They also had great bleu cheese stuffed olives. We ordered onion rings (8 large to an order) and fried zucchini. The onion ring I had was pretty good. I didn't have the fried zucchini but heard it was also pretty good. Other than the light fare items, all dinners come with their salad bar which has both iceberg lettuce and Caesar Salad along with many fixings as well as cheeses and bread. I had the Baked Seafood Platter which came with scallops, shrimp, Clam Casino (without the shell), Maryland crab cake and a small lobster tail for $49.99. My wife had the baked chicken breast which she said was quite dry. The dining area is quite large and reminds me of the restaurants at a casino. Some in our group said it reminds them of Medieval Times due to the dark wood vibe. While I thought it was a bit pricey, I would still come back and try their signature steaks or prime rib.

I didn't have the pleasure of visiting Dog & Bull before it was renovated, but I visited last night and can't wait to return. My friend and I made a reservation for 5:30 PM (just in case) as we read online that reservations were recommended, but I don't actually think one was needed. When you walk in, it's bright and inviting. The garage doors throughout the property provide a ton of natural light. I can only imagine how lovely it is when they're open in the summer. Additionally, the outside has a nice patio and an area with a fire pit. The restaurant's layout was designed wonderfully! Our server was Alex (Alexandria) and she was the epitome of exceptional service. She checked in on us multiple times and always had a smile on her face when she came over. We really appreciated having her. The baked feta and hummus appetizer was just as delicious as it looks in the photo. The thick pieces of garlic, roasted red peppers, olives, cucumbers and pita bread triangles paired so nicely with the feta. The hummus was warmed up and it looked like the kitchen staff may have torched the top of it. It was phenomenal. Boy do I have notes on the lentil burger - it was 10/10!! I'm not a big bean person and even though this burger had beans in it, it somehow tasted like an actual beef burger. Sounds crazy, I know, but trust and believe it was pure excellence. I added cheddar for an additional charge and upgraded my regular fries to garlic parm fries. Finally, the caramel apple bread pudding... oh my oh my! What a DELIGHT. The top was piled high with a big scoop of frosting. Yes, you read that right. Frosting! Not ice cream! You can taste the apple pieces in the bread pudding. My friend and I wanted to order it twice. It was THAT good. It was easy to make my way to Dog & Bull from Center City thanks to the Septa station located directly behind the restaurant. Street parking also wasn't too bad yesterday. I absolutely loved the experience I had here and will be stopping by again this summer! Thanks, Dog & Bull!

We arrived at Old Town Pub on a weekday at that strange and tender hour between the end of work and…read morethe beginning of evening, when the sunlight looks tired but not yet ready to quit. There were eight of us, a band of aging birthday revelers, unsure whether we were still young enough to be loud or too old to be noticed. The staff didn't seem to mind either way. They smiled, rearranged some tables upstairs in a corner just for us, and let us take our time as the rest of the party wandered in, one by one, like characters from eight different novels who'd lost their place in the story. The upstairs room was empty when we arrived, echoing pleasantly with the sound of our indecision. By the time we left, it was humming with life. The bartender, whose name I did not catch but whose pour I will remember, mixed me an Apple Jack from the fall cocktail list. I had planned to explore their beer selection, which is said to be quite good, but the apple and Tito's combination called out to me like an old American folk song. It was crisp and strong and made me grateful for my liver's enduring patience. For dinner, I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was good but too greasy, even for a dish whose main promise is grease. The plate looked like an oil field after a minor accident, and the poor chips had to make do with swimming lessons they hadn't asked for. Still, the fish itself was solid and flaky, and I ate most of it while pretending not to notice the puddles. Around the table there were burgers, salads, sandwiches and tacos. Everyone ate. Everyone was fine. No one wept with joy. Our server, though, deserves an entire paragraph. He was the sort of person you wish the world had more of. He was patient, kind, and surprisingly cheerful for someone who had to answer seven variations of "What's good here?" He took special care with our friend who has celiac disease, making several trips to confirm that her meal would be safe. He handled it with both professionalism and genuine concern. It was one of those rare moments when good service feels less like customer care and more like small-scale heroism. We were politely nudged around 7:00 to make way for the trivia crowd, which seemed fair. We had been there for two and a half hours, which in restaurant time is nearly an epoch. On another night, I imagine they would have let us stay longer. We left feeling content, not dazzled, but content counts for a lot these days. Old Town Pub may not be the most extraordinary restaurant in Bordentown, but it has heart. It has history, too, tucked into its walls from the days when it was The Farnsworth House. The renovation in 2017 gave it new life without scrubbing away its past. That balance between old and new feels just right, like the moment between late afternoon and early evening. Four stars for kindness, competence, and cocktails that don't apologize for being cocktails. The fish and chips may have been greasy, but the night itself was not.

I haven't been to this site since it was Dublin Square which was a long time ago. Some of the layout changed. They no longer have the old bar separated from the dining area. Callie was our server and did a great job. I was there with some friends from SC. We started by ordering the large pretzel which comes out on a pretzel hanger along with some beer cheese for dipping. They also use that hanger for bacon. The pretzel was enough for 4 of us. I ordered the wings and selected Nashville Hot and Hog Sauce as my flavors. They claim they sell by the pound ($15.50) but it ends up being 8 wings. If you want to split flavors, they make it dry and bring the sauce on the side for dipping. Luckily the Nashville Hot is a dry rub. It was very good and not too spicy. The Hog Sauce is a combo of Buffalo and Garlic which was excellent. The wings themselves were plump, juicy and crispy. Five stars. Plenty of parking. Some tables available outside for outdoor seating when it ever gets nice in NJ. Bathrooms were very clean. You may find some little pink pigs around. Not sure if they're complimentary, but my wife took the one that was next to our table. My only complaint is they have too many of their draft beers designated for only 10 oz pours even with low ABV. I had a Kane Head High which was in a 16 oz glass. They also use OpenTable for reservations which I used as well.

Starting off strong with appetizers, the bacon trio rack not only presents nicely but tastes incredible. Thick cut Maple honey, sesame chili and candied bourbon, what will you choose?! The bang bang shrimp had an amazing chili kick. The vodka pie had my name all over it. It had the best cheese pull! Want a more high protein pizza? You'll want to try the chicken parmigiana pizza, with a crispy chicken cutlet serving as the dough instead! Try a Trenton famous tomato pie, and see that it compares well to other notorious spots in the area! Their Billy Mac cheeseburger came loaded with creamy Mac and cheese! We loved the Mac and cheese so much we even ordered it as a side. For a more traditional entree, try the short rib for a cozy fall dinner. The short rib was tender and inviting and came with an ample amount of mashed potatoes and veggies. A great healthier option. And save room for dessert, the chocolate chip cookie skillet and funnel cake fries are a MUST! The cookie skillet was warm and gooey and the funnel cake fries brought the classic treat without all the mess! Make Flying Pig tavern your next hangout spot. It's a great place to watch a game, join in on their trivia nights, or come by for ladies night. They have a large spacious room upstairs that can be rented out for parties. The staff took wonderful care of us, they were so nice and attentive. I loved it so much my friends and I came back for their trivia night!
