This is perhaps the only true bar in Newtown. Not a sports bar or a gastropub. This is an old school dive bar, but in a good way! This bar usually attracts an older crowd. We have had food here which is shockingly good. The opportunities to improve include: live music is too loud at times for how close they are set-up in relation to the bar. Also, the menu could offer more and be more varied.

    Nick provides the comic relief!

Our favorite local bar! Great staff! Friendly bartenders! Good food! Entertaining bands! All in a 250 year old inn and tavern!

Pub food and drinks in the tavern. Full dinner menu in the dining room at this 17th century historic building in the center of Newtown. Great people. Friendly service!

111521 Not a bad experience but not a great experience. Only one person it seemed on staff that day. Bartender, server, busser, possibly even the cook. We sat at the bar 8-10 minutes before we even saw the bartender. And the wait time for the food was long. We ordered Mac & Cheese, a burger and appetizers of mozzarella triangles and chicken strips. The apps were the issue. The chicken strips looked like 'popcorn' chicken glazed in a tangy yet sassy sauce. But were kinda dry. The bartender/server/busser/cook took it off our bill. The mozzarella triangles were good but not hot. Maybe 5° above room temperature. But they were tasty so I ate them. Here's the big rub. There was a 76' and Eagles game on. The room was filling up and it was just the 1 guy doing it all. He's not the issue. He worked hard. But he could've used help.

    Mmm beer.

That being…read moresaid, the last time I was there, their selection of draft and bottled beers, ciders and other drinks were great, varied for every palate, including my persnickety and fickle taste. One of their longtime staples, the Lindeman's Framboise (Raspberry in French) lambic beer, with its fruit forward profile and the low ABV of under 3% makes it a great sipping and people watching brew. The bartenders are always friendly and willing to chat, given they aren't swamped with other patrons. The take out is just as good as their dine in food, and their attention to detail FOR ANYONE WITH SENSITIVITIES (though I can't guarantee anything) or those like myself who have texture aversions to certain ingredients, they are more than willing to accommodate or substitute. I haven't personally looked into anything gluten-free, so that's something to call ahead for details on. Otherwise I have been coming here both with my family and on my own since... Way before they renovated, Maybe 2002, maybe before. It's been THAT long. The place is literally a "must try" landmark for any visitors to the area, with a minor caveat: sports games and Friday nights. Avoid those two times. It's a mob scene and the wait times become outrageous. Still hoping to get back there soon.

I ordered the Flat Iron Steak Sandwich, and WOW -- absolutely fantastic. The steak was grilled perfectly, tender with great flavor, and the combo of provolone, arugula, au poivre aioli, and the onion nest on a Liscio's long roll really hit all the right notes. Truly delicious. My girlfriend went with the Grilled & Chilled Chicken Caesar and a cup of Butternut Squash Soup. The salad was super fresh, the romaine crisp, and the croutons tasted like they were made in-house -- crunchy, seasoned, and a perfect match for their famous Caesar dressing. The soup had great flavor too, just a touch heavy on the spice (nutmeg maybe?), but still very enjoyable. Because it was a busy Saturday, we were seated upstairs. Our waitress, Kayla, was attentive, friendly, and did a great job keeping up even with the crowd. No complaints there -- she was excellent. My one real critique: the beer list. When we asked about it, Kayla pointed us to a blackboard in the corner of the upstairs dining area. From where we were sitting, it was hard to read -- and honestly a little awkward to get up and try to see. I ended up snapping a quick picture just to figure out what was available. It would be so much more convenient if they offered a printed list at the table or even a QR code you could scan. Because we couldn't easily see the options, I went with a cranberry sangria (which was tasty!) and my girlfriend ordered a cranberry vodka instead of exploring their beer selection. All in all, really good food, great service, and a fun spot before a show. Just fix the beer list situation and this would easily be a five-star visit. Would definitely return!

My one beef with the place, which is not terribly important to me because I'm usually not there for a serious meal, is that beyond pizza, cheesesteaks, fries, and stuffed hot peppers, they don't do a great job with their food. Virtually everything I've had other than the aforementioned bar stuff has been mostly "meh" (did I get that right, kids? :) By the way, the Meat Lovers Pizza is outstanding (and I'm from Trenton NJ - IYKYK )

Hubs ordered sausage and pepper sandwich with fries. Fries were a bit over seasoned and wrap was good. My martini was very good...not a large glass but not expensive either so it works. There is an outside patio for dining and a beer take out store. We were curious to try this place and happy to try it once...however, it really isn't my kind of place. Still...it was memorable.

I learned later that this restaurant has been around since the early to mid 1900's. Plenty of parking in a large open lot. The place is very large and has one of the longest bars I've seen. The wood is very dark and you can see the chefs cooking over the hearth. They don't take reservations and won't see you until your entire party is there. One of the things I liked for our party of 10 was they had no problems with seating as they also have many large round tables. For mixed drinks, they make them pretty big and potent. For my martini, they sent back an extra glass. They also had great bleu cheese stuffed olives. We ordered onion rings (8 large to an order) and fried zucchini. The onion ring I had was pretty good. I didn't have the fried zucchini but heard it was also pretty good. Other than the light fare items, all dinners come with their salad bar which has both iceberg lettuce and Caesar Salad along with many fixings as well as cheeses and bread. I had the Baked Seafood Platter which came with scallops, shrimp, Clam Casino (without the shell), Maryland crab cake and a small lobster tail for $49.99. My wife had the baked chicken breast which she said was quite dry. The dining area is quite large and reminds me of the restaurants at a casino. Some in our group said it reminds them of Medieval Times due to the dark wood vibe. While I thought it was a bit pricey, I would still come back and try their signature steaks or prime rib.

We arrived at Old Town Pub on a weekday at that strange and tender hour between the end of work and…read morethe beginning of evening, when the sunlight looks tired but not yet ready to quit. There were eight of us, a band of aging birthday revelers, unsure whether we were still young enough to be loud or too old to be noticed. The staff didn't seem to mind either way. They smiled, rearranged some tables upstairs in a corner just for us, and let us take our time as the rest of the party wandered in, one by one, like characters from eight different novels who'd lost their place in the story. The upstairs room was empty when we arrived, echoing pleasantly with the sound of our indecision. By the time we left, it was humming with life. The bartender, whose name I did not catch but whose pour I will remember, mixed me an Apple Jack from the fall cocktail list. I had planned to explore their beer selection, which is said to be quite good, but the apple and Tito's combination called out to me like an old American folk song. It was crisp and strong and made me grateful for my liver's enduring patience. For dinner, I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was good but too greasy, even for a dish whose main promise is grease. The plate looked like an oil field after a minor accident, and the poor chips had to make do with swimming lessons they hadn't asked for. Still, the fish itself was solid and flaky, and I ate most of it while pretending not to notice the puddles. Around the table there were burgers, salads, sandwiches and tacos. Everyone ate. Everyone was fine. No one wept with joy. Our server, though, deserves an entire paragraph. He was the sort of person you wish the world had more of. He was patient, kind, and surprisingly cheerful for someone who had to answer seven variations of "What's good here?" He took special care with our friend who has celiac disease, making several trips to confirm that her meal would be safe. He handled it with both professionalism and genuine concern. It was one of those rare moments when good service feels less like customer care and more like small-scale heroism. We were politely nudged around 7:00 to make way for the trivia crowd, which seemed fair. We had been there for two and a half hours, which in restaurant time is nearly an epoch. On another night, I imagine they would have let us stay longer. We left feeling content, not dazzled, but content counts for a lot these days. Old Town Pub may not be the most extraordinary restaurant in Bordentown, but it has heart. It has history, too, tucked into its walls from the days when it was The Farnsworth House. The renovation in 2017 gave it new life without scrubbing away its past. That balance between old and new feels just right, like the moment between late afternoon and early evening. Four stars for kindness, competence, and cocktails that don't apologize for being cocktails. The fish and chips may have been greasy, but the night itself was not.
