Had a lovely time at The Boatman after sight seeing around Windsor castle. It was a rainy day but the views were delightful next to the Thames River. A trip to the UK wouldn't be complete without eating as much Fish & Chips as you can so that what I had to order here. They use Haddock which was quite tasty (I'm used to Cod). They use Haddock staff made sure I added vinegar which really took things to the next level. I also learned that people love Gin so I had to also get a Gin and Tonic. I really liked this place. Food was good. Once we got seated the service was good. Our table was very nice right on the Thames. Getting seated was the problem. There were open tables everywhere but the lady seating guest was very rude and made us feel unwelcome. read more

This place had a lot of potential but fell flat for our group. We had a booking for 10 people at 1:30pm. When we arrived, we were sat on the patio, but not near the views despite being the only ones out there. We quickly ordered drinks, and then food not long after. From the time we were sat, to when our food finally came out, it had been over an hour. I know we had a larger group, but the waitress never came back to check on our drink or offer any insight on the wait. We had to seek it out ourselves. We were also being tormented by wasps, one of which we caught in a cup to stop it from bothering us. We saw people seated after us get their food before us. We even saw a couple sit down, wait for ages for service, and leave before ever ordering drinks. Once the food finally came, it was bland. My fish and chips were flavorless. Others at the table complained of food being either boiling hot or lukewarm. The little chocolate mint they bring you with the check was the best part. Someone in our group asked for an extra mint on the way out and they initially told her no. Overall, terrible experience. Made us late to the next thing on our itinerary and we didn't even enjoy the food. read more

Meh Beautiful location gets one star Conveniently located closer to a car park, another star. Presentation of the actual plate maybe gets a half Star. After a day at play in Windsor castle, we wanted to end the day with a great dinner. It was early enough were most places did not have a lot of people and it was on a working day that we arrived. So we knew most places wouldn't be crowded. The location is beautiful and we wanted to seat by the water. We stood outside the sign that said to wait to be seated only to be looked at and not helped, the hostess continued to place silverware on empty tables. We waited a bit longer and politely asked to be helped. Out of around twenty tables only two were taken. Both seated by the water. We were taken towards the opposite side and since the placed is empty we asked if we asked if we could be seated by the water instead. She said she couldn't since they were expecting reservations. We were disappointed but understood. Only one other couple showed in the little over an hour that we dined and they did not have reservations and were seated much closer to the water than us. We again waited with the menu ready to order our meal ( drinks had been taken as we sat down) not until the manager came to let me know they didn't have the necessary ingredients for my drink, he asked we were ready to order, only then our waitress approached, mind you, this is an open space with daylight still and only four tables occupied (our included) so we were not easy to miss. He was polite and we placed our order. The food was ok. Both my husband and I ordered steaks. Both medium well but my husband's was medium. I just switched with him rather than asking to be taken back. Ugh. Peppercorn sauce was nothing to write home about. Measly side salad was bleh and their dressing was also just meh. The plate looked ok, so I'll give them that. Drinks were not refilled and were not looked after food was served. The utensils that were not going to be used were clumsily taken away by hand just to be placed on the area were they had the rest of the cutlery. My husband asked for a straw only to be handed it again with bare hands. Overall not a positive experience. Again disappointed about the seating. No one filled the other table and as we left we saw no one approaching the locale either. Did not received good service and food was just ok. read more

Made a reservation to come here after Windsor Castle. We wanted to sit outside by the river but it was rainy. Instead they put us in the sunroom, which is a separate structure from the main restaurant/bar. Our server was very friendly and made good recommendations for food and drinks. We started off with the Smoked Duck Salad and then for our main entrees we had the Homemade Fish Cake and Ribeye Steak. To drink with dinner we had the Finca Manzanos Rioja Crianza wine. The wine bottles are pretty affordable for the quality. Dessert was cheesecake and a novelty from the town across the river, Eton Mess. We also shared a glass of Prosecco with dessert. read more

Located very close to Windsor Castle. They take reservations or walk-ins. Our waitress, who was obviously from Ireland from her accent, was delightful and funny. It's a nice location and our waitress was pleasant, but the food was so-so. Expect to pay for parking, although we weren't sure if paying at night was required in the lot near the restaurant since the payment stations weren't working (free parking for us anyway). Took over an hour to get our food. Groups that arrived after us got their food as we waited. Eventually we flagged down our waitress to check; turns out they'd misplaced our ticket. She obviously told the manager we'd waited over an hour. As compensation the manager just offered to give a free dessert to the kid in our group. Hello, we were all inconvenienced by this poor service! Their hamburger is basically just a burger patty and bun, nothing else. You can add bacon and cheese for $1 each, but it doesn't come with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo, mustard, ketchup, etc. (just meat and bun). It wasn't a bad burger, just nothing special about it. The comes-with fries were just the typical thick cut fries (chips) like you get everywhere in England. It also came with a small "salad", which was basically just spring mix lettuce with no dressing. read more

I'm so sorry to have to give a bad review but this place really ruined my dinner. When we first arrived she gave me the most irritated and bothered look. I don't know why she was in a bad mood or what had happened, but I'm not her daddy and it's not my job to make her feel better. If you are a hostess or waitress and having a bad day, that is your problem not mine. She ignored us for the next few minutes. So we went inside to see if someone else could seat us. They ignored us so we went back outside and waited further. Finally fed up we walked over to her and asked her directly if she could seat us. She finally did and offered us a seat towards the back away from the water. I asked for seats next to the water and she refused. There were only two other customers in the whole area and there was plenty of seating. I was very annoyed at this. The manager then takes our order. We ordered the rib eye steak and sirloin steak. I asked for mine to be medium well and asked for it to have a good char. The same went for the sirloin. We also ordered two drinks. A bit later the manager returned saying they didn't have the ingredients for one of the drinks so we ordered a different drink, no big deal. I asked for a straw for my drink. A trainee walks over with the opened straw in his bare hand. Freaking disgusting , the whole point of the straw is so that I don't touch the cup where some server put their hands. I didn't use the straw. The steaks arrived and they looked good. Except the char was too lite. I cut into the steak, but it is barely medium. Everyone's taste is different but when I am paying for the steak it needs to be made how I asked for it. I don't like bloody beef. That is why I asked for medium well with a char. I couldn't eat it. The peppercorns sauce was good, the French fries were the best part of the meal. The salad was disgusting, it tasted like it had a rancid butter dressing. So 90 pounds went down the drain. I'm sorry I stayed to eat there. I should have left after the staff ignored me and was so bothered to have a customer. read more

We eat here twice while visiting Windsor. The service was excellent both times and the food was great. The first trip we had cheeseburgers and chips. Huge and excellent. We should have shared it. The location of the restaurant is fantastic. We had a table right on the river and it is very close to Windsor Castle. That was by far the best thing about it though. Our table was set for 4 but the 3 of us sitting at it had no room because of the legs on the table. There were umbrella stands that were huge and major tripping hazards since they were in the walkways. My daughter liked her chicken sandwich but the burgers were tasteless and the salad had no dressing. They had a very substantial wine menu but the beer options were limited. read more

The best thing about the Boatman is the location, the views, etc. But I've been a few times and the service is really substandard. It's frustrating when a place has so much going for it, and then just doesn't try or train on service. For example, they once turned the lights off on us as their way of saying they were closing. They had not even once come over and given us a warning. That is ridiculous. another time it took me about 45 min to get a cider as they kept bringing everyone else's drinks but mine. It was so odd. We visited The Boatman after talking our dog Sidney for a walk on The Brocas just across the bridge in Eton. The Boatman is truly a dog-friendly pub and Sidney got a treat and a drink, and we were able to enjoy a fabulous early dinner (it was only 6pm!) without having to take the dog home and come back out. Bonus is that it's the only riverside pub on the river in Windsor and with their all-weather terrace you can still enjoy the waterfront even if it rains... read more

Booked 1-2 weeks in advance for group of 12 adults + 3 small children (who required high-chairs). I rang 3-4 days in advance to double confirm as it was a family trip to Windsor from London. I was reassured it was all booked by Denisa and management. When i arrived to Windsor on the day, i got a call 1-2 hours before the booking time. i was told they couldn't cater for the group inside and they wanted the group to sit outside in the heavy rain with 3 small children on their high chairs! Extremely disappointed, the manager on the day, Pradeep, did come across pretty rude and arrogant - offering little to no help of a solution apart from sit in the rain or leave (a take it or leave it attitude). He full knew the large group booking was booked plenty of time in advance too. I would advise anyone booking to triple check their booking (plus seat type) and booking another place as a backup to avoid going through a similar disappointing experience. Terrible service! Took over 20 minutes to just order food. We got our drinks 10 minutes later and they served drinks to a table that came in after us first.. ordered a warm duck Caesar salad and instead got a duck and mango salad (did not know at the time that this was the wrong salad since this was our first time here) so we ate and at the end when we were paying our bill we noticed the salad was wrong and double the cost. So we asked that this wasn't what we ordered and the waiter rudely tells us "well why are you telling me". He tells us that we should have told them when we got the salad but HOW were we supposed to know the difference. A customer should pay for what was expected not pay for your mistakes... this place needs to learn more courtesy and manners. We had a very good experience at the Boatman tonight. The food was excellent. The waitstaff of Emma and Abi were attentive and helped us find menu items that accommodated the food allergens on our group (gluten and dairy). Especially recommend the yellowtail Niçoise salad.
