British steak and Nicholson's ale pie, delicious!

What a lovely traditional English pub! The ambiance was fabulous and what you'd hope to experience! I ordered the British steak and Nicholson's ale pie, which was very delicious. The service was outstanding and very helpful. I will definitely be returning.

Located right in front of Windsor castle. I know what people think. When something is near a big attraction most people believe that the place is not good. We were hungry and decided to stop. I am glad we did. It was kind of cool for us south Texans, so we sat inside your order at the bar, and they bring you food out.they do have inside and outside seating. The inside reminds me of a home. Lentil pie: I have to say that this pie was delicious. I have no idea what was in it. I know there was lentils. Probably some other vegetables. Definitely some sweet potato Salmon and dill fish cakes: good flavor. Good size portion. The salad and potatoes were good. Gin and Tonic: not sweet. Citrusy. Good serving. Staff was friendly. Food came out quick.

This is one of those that was taken over by the gin company - and it was terrific! We learned that the process is to go up to the bar to order your drinks and food (when seated in the bar area). From there, it was smooth! A Gin spritzer and & Guinness, to drink. Fish & chips for me, steak & ale pie for my man - both were delicious! I mean, so good! I love the little pies they make here, with the best gravy & mash too. It was a lunch meal for us, not too filling and perfect! Love the pub itself, warm wood everywhere, comfy chairs...just classic & great music playing just the right volume for daytime and staff were cool & polite

Steak&Nicholson's pale ale pie and Haloumi fries(back), both good!

Good food and nice sélection of beers with a few ciders on tap. You order at the bar, grab your drink and they'll bring the food to your table. I especially like the Haloumi fries as an appetizer. Conveniently located close to the Windsor castle entrance.

    Some history on the pub.

This place was fantastic! Cool atmosphere with photographs that shared the history of the place. Food and drink selection was phenomenal! To order you go up to the bar, provide your table number and the food comes to you. The server brought the food out pretty quickly and it was fantastic, piping hot! We got the fish and chips and the beef pie.

If you're looking for the classic, British style pub, this is a great place to go. As you walk in, the place is awash with a wood hewn, warm glow that gives it a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. It is within a couple hundred feet of Windsor castle as well. We got one of their meat pies (Steak and Nicholson's meat pie) and it was great. We split it between my wife, daughter (5 years old) and I. It was plenty for us but you would not go wrong ordering your own as well; it's size is right in that sweet spot of shareable or eating it on it's own. There is a mock dungeon in the downstairs portion that is great for the kids, or adults. My family throughly enjoyed this place and would definitely be coming again. We've added it to our list of places to recommend. We've also saw a lot of plates of their Fish and Chips going out as well and it also looked very good. Every table that had it seemed to make good comments about it and enjoy it.

Lovely traditional pub located directly across the street from the entrance to Windsor Castle. Lots of comfy inside seating and lots of covered outside eating areas. Full bar with some fun cocktails or full selection of beer. Food came fast and hot. Fish And chips tasted great but quite salty as I couldn't get my rings off later. Just selection of pies. Staff were very pleasant.

Carpenters Arms: Steak & Ale Pie, Ocean Fish & Chips, Sticky Toffee Pudding

After our visit to Windsor Castle, we searched Yelp for a place for a late afternoon lunch and decided on nearby Carpenters Arms. It wasn't obvious to us, but after observing other patrons, we realized that you place your food order and pay at the bar. We ordered the Ocean Fish & Chips: this came with a large plank of haddock and battered shrimp scampi, along with the chips (fries) and mushy peas. The fish was excellent with visible flakes of sea salt. We also ordered the Steak & Nicholson's Pale Ale Pie. My first time having a British savory meat pie so I had nothing to compare it to. It was good but on the mild side in flavor. Sticky Fig Pudding with vanilla ice cream: We ordered this together with our entrées at the bar counter, and it actually arrived before our main courses. It was very good but I'd recommend ordering it by itself after you've finished your entrees. Nice and spacious ambiance, good food, good beer, good portions, good desserts, good prices. Recommended!

Located right at the wall of the castle. I think the food is catered by a food pub company but it didn't make it any less delicious. Veg, peas and carrots served with our meat pies was spot on fresh. We had the Steak and Ale pie and the seasonal game pie which was delicious. As full as we were, we had to go for the sticky toffee pudding, delicious!

Worth coming after a long day at Windsor castle! We came near Christmas time and it was decorated cutely. Wait staff was friendly. The pies, cider, and mulled wine were great. My kids liked the burgers enough not to complain.

I hesitate to call this a pub; the interior is a little too sharp. Instead, it's like a decent restaurant without table service. In all seriousness, it has a comfortable and authentic atmosphere, the ale is sweet, and the pie was fine, hearty eating.

My fish and chips arrived and noticed a certain scorpion like curve of the cod. Deliberate or not, it looked wonderful

As I walked on the narrow lane way by the Crooked House in Windsor, I saw a few al fresco diners at the pub behind. The appearance of the batter fish on someone's plate looked very inviting which pulled me into this Nicholson's pub in Windsor. I wasted no time as soon as I got in. Saved a table and made a mental note of the number assigned to it, then off I went to the bar to place my order. Fish and Chips please and half a pint of Peroni. I went back to my table and thought it might be a good idea to read the menu. The batter of the cod has Nicholson's ale in it. I'm not an expert on ale and I'm sure it's pretty similar to a beer batter. Pardon my ignorance. Anyway, the fish and chips arrived on my table and I took the obligatory photos to post on here. The cod had a curve similar to a scorpion about to attack with its tail. I thought that was very interesting. The batter was not crispy underneath. It was soaked which sort of implied it might have been one of those pre-prepared with batter and then frozen to keep. I could be wrong. Then I thought, it's a chain pub. Kitchen wouldn't have someone whipping a big bowl of batter to dip every single order althroughout the day. I'm sure it was heaps better than Birds Eye though (pardon the comparison). The taste itself was fine but nothing remarkable. The chips was a little disappointing though. The shapes certainly showed signs of being deformed from a frozen bag. Then the mushy peas tasted old. I thought, "forget about it". Appearance could sometimes be deceiving indeed.

When we arrived, we were sat on the patio, but not near the views despite being the only ones out there. We quickly ordered drinks, and then food not long after. I know we had a larger group, but the waitress never came back to check on our drink or offer any insight on the wait. We had to seek it out ourselves. We were also being tormented by wasps, one of which we caught in a cup to stop it from bothering us. We saw people seated after us get their food before us. We even saw a couple sit down, wait for ages for service, and leave before ever ordering drinks. Once the food finally came, it was bland. My fish and chips were flavorless. Others at the table complained of food being either boiling hot or lukewarm. The little chocolate mint they bring you with the check was the best part. Someone in our group asked for an extra mint on the way out and they initially told her no. Overall, terrible experience. Made us late to the next thing on our itinerary and we didn't even enjoy the food.

A local saw us roaming the streets with their heads down in our phone, searching for places to eat. He was so nice and recommended a few places. I actually recommend this place. He even walked us to the restaurant. That's our surprise. He used to even live in Fort Lauderdale once upon a time, but it's been he's been living in Windsor city for a few years now he seems so happy and upbeat. We arrived to the place. There was really not a lot of people there we sat down wherever we liked, and the server greeted us and took our order. I ordered the fish and chips with the Minty peas, I felt like the fish needed more seasoning in my opinion, and I wasn't a huge big fan of the minty peas. My grandmother had a balmoral chicken entree which she enjoyed. The plates were huge and filling. They played music like 90s rock and some Bob Marley. The place was pretty chill with locals at the bar. They did had a dog in there which was cute but also not too cute when it got too close to your food so we had to tell the owner to get their dog
