At an AMAZING beef pie at this beautiful pub. I wish I could recreate it at home! Service was prompt and friendly. Order at the bar and they bring it to your table. A cozy and warm pub right in the middle of Windsor. So many delicious pie options (which is what they are known for). Had some great Christmas seasonal selections as well! Super enjoyed the loaded chips with some fried fish bites to make our own "fish and chips" station. Loaded chips had delicious pulled pork on top. Fish was cooked well. Duck croquettes were just okay and not amazing. The Christmas pudding was excellent! So glad to have been there at the right time. Super flavorful, the texture was right, and it was perfectly warmed. I am glad we did. It was kind of cool for us south Texans, so we sat inside your order at the bar, and they bring you food out.they do have inside and outside seating. The inside reminds me of a home. Lentil pie: I have to say that this pie was delicious. I have no idea what was in it. I know there was lentils. Probably some other vegetables. Definitely some sweet potato Salmon and dill fish cakes: good flavor. Good size portion. The salad and potatoes were good. Gin and Tonic: not sweet. Citrusy. Good serving. Staff was friendly. This is one of those that was taken over by the gin company - and it was terrific! We learned that the process is to go up to the bar to order your drinks and food (when seated in the bar area). From there, it was smooth! A Gin spritzer and & Guinness, to drink. Fish & chips for me, steak & ale pie for my man - both were delicious! I mean, so good! If you're looking for the classic, British style pub, this is a great place to go. As you walk in, the place is awash with a wood hewn, warm glow that gives it a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. It is within a couple hundred feet of Windsor castle as well. We got one of their meat pies (Steak and Nicholson's meat pie) and it was great. We split it between my wife, daughter (5 years old) and I. It was plenty for us but you would not go wrong ordering your own as well; it's size is right in that sweet spot of shareable or eating it on it's own. There is a mock dungeon in the downstairs portion that is great for the kids, or adults. My family throughly enjoyed this place and would definitely be coming again. We've added it to our list of places to recommend. We've also saw a lot of plates of their Fish and Chips going out as well and it also looked very good. After our visit to Windsor Castle, we searched Yelp for a place for a late afternoon lunch and decided on nearby Carpenters Arms. It wasn't obvious to us, but after observing other patrons, we realized that you place your food order and pay at the bar. We ordered the Ocean Fish & Chips: this came with a large plank of haddock and battered shrimp scampi, along with the chips (fries) and mushy peas. The fish was excellent with visible flakes of sea salt. We also ordered the Steak & Nicholson's Pale Ale Pie. My first time having a British savory meat pie so I had nothing to compare it to. It was good but on the mild side in flavor. Sticky Fig Pudding with vanilla ice cream: We ordered this together with our entrées at the bar counter, and it actually arrived before our main courses. It was very good but I'd recommend ordering it by itself after you've finished your entrees. Nice and spacious ambiance, good food, good beer, good portions, good desserts, good prices. As I walked on the narrow lane way by the Crooked House in Windsor, I saw a few al fresco diners at the pub behind. The appearance of the batter fish on someone's plate looked very inviting which pulled me into this Nicholson's pub in Windsor. I wasted no time as soon as I got in. Saved a table and made a mental note of the number assigned to it, then off I went to the bar to place my order. Fish and Chips please and half a pint of Peroni. I went back to my table and thought it might be a good idea to read the menu. The batter of the cod has Nicholson's ale in it. I'm not an expert on ale and I'm sure it's pretty similar to a beer batter. Pardon my ignorance. Anyway, the fish and chips arrived on my table and I took the obligatory photos to post on here. The cod had a curve similar to a scorpion about to attack with its tail. I thought that was very interesting. The batter was not crispy underneath. It was soaked which sort of implied it might have been one of those pre-prepared with batter and then frozen to keep. I could be wrong. Then I thought, it's a chain pub. Kitchen wouldn't have someone whipping a big bowl of batter to dip every single order althroughout the day. I'm sure it was heaps better than Birds Eye though (pardon the comparison). The taste itself was fine but nothing remarkable. The chips was a little disappointing though. The shapes certainly showed signs of being deformed from a frozen bag. Then the mushy peas tasted old. Although, traditionally, this pub does not offer table service, since we had a party of six people and were all sitting down on the lower level of the pub, one of the staff kindly offered to take our orders and serve us at our table. She really was a gem! I chose this place for dinner because on a previous visit to Windsor in the late summer of 2017, my husband and I ate here as well. The food and drink were so satisfying that we simply had to return. There is nothing on the menu here that I wouldn't recommend, and, this being England, the beers and ciders available were all quite perfect! Delicious, authentic British pub located right outside the Windsor Castle. We found Carpenters Arms after spending the morning in Windsor Castle. It is located right down the small side street in front of the castle's exit and offers both indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for one of the outdoor tables with a nice view of the castle. While things may be different inside, for outdoor tables, you must order at the bar inside (no table service). As a needy group (two children, one of which with severe peanut and egg allergies, and one vegan), we had no trouble finding something for everyone, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the meal! The menu clearly lists allergen information as well as gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options (something I find quite common and pleasing about restaurants in and near London). The kids loved their sausage sandwich and bacon mac n cheese, and I finished every last bite of my lentil cottage pie. Often times, vegan options can be very bland and unsatisfying, but such was not the case with my meal here. It was creamy, perfectly seasoned, and totally hit the spot. read more

Quite nice traditional English pub to have lunch or dinner after a visit to the gorgeous Windsor Castle. We stopped in wanting some pie and a pint of beer. They had a nicely varied menu with all sorts of options. The homemade pies all sounded delicious. I was able to narrow down to my final choice because they were all out of one of my two options. I enjoyed the beef pie very much. It was served with a side of green beans and mashed potatoes and an amazing gravy. Didn't look like the traditional American gravy, it was in fact so much better. Less thick and darker in color. Wish I'd asked exactly what it was. I also enjoyed a local bottled craft beer instead of the traditional drafts. The staff was attentive and friendly. Nice flaky crust, under-seasoned, but moist stew inside. For dessert the pudding trio was unremarkable. The real star though is the cask beer list. Lots of great options, clean lines, proper cask pours. A pint of real ale and a crusty beef pie is all the lunch I needed. Don't waste your time. Food doesn't begin serving until after 6 p.m. For us, that was 30 minutes away so we sat down and looked at the menu. The free WiFi was skippy dropping our connection every 5-10 minutes. Can you say, frustrating?! Worst of all, there was only 1 server and we waited 35 minutes to get . . . no service! We up and left to have supper elsewhere and truly, nobody noticed. After having supper elsewhere, we did something very foolish. We returned to the Carpenters Arms for dessert! Well, duh, we again waited 15 minutes with NO SERVER coming to our table so we up and left again. Is there a happy ending to this pathetic service in Windsor? Why yes! Drury's. This is a beautiful pub just a stone's throw from the castle. While this means it is a destination for many tourists (food and drink are not available on the castle grounds), it isn't overcrowded or overpriced like some local establishments. They had a brilliant range of in-season pies, which sadly we didn't have as we were in the market for a quick, light bite to eat. My mum's fish & chips was lovely, sadly I cannot say the same for my roast beef and horseradish sandwich. It was mostly bread, with gristly beef, with cold chips. We had to hunt down our meal, which took over a half hour to arrive, and we're guessing they made my sandwich and chips, set it aside, then promptly forgot about our order, hence the frigidity of my chips. I really wanted to like this place, as its atmosphere and decor was pleasant enough, but it unfortunately let me down. read more

A pleasant surprise - a pub this close to a major tourist attraction that is old, with tables outside for warmer days and food/drink that are remarkably cheap for the location. The interior is a bit scuffed, but that does not detract from the atmosphere. Interesting range of well-kept real ales - I tried Thornbridge "Kipling" and Cropton "Dangleberry" during my visit. The food is generally in the £5-10 bracket and focusses on being tasty and filling, if not especially adventurous - the range of pies is impressive however. I was there with a group of friends from central and eastern Europe, and they were favourably impressed with food and drink. The staff were also helpful. This must be the best pub for the casual visitor to Windsor Castle, and would make a good local too read more

Just had a pint of the Windsor and eton kohinor ipa 4.5% diamond jubilee special. brewed 200 mtrs from the pub. Actually tastes like I think an ipa should. Lots of body byt not heavy. fruity hop, hints of melon m papaya but not in the American.style. beautiful. Not like the green king fizz 3 pumps down. Excellent! read more
