Don't bother. I came here cuz I have the cookbook The Pie Room. I was so excited and walked in to make a reservation for that evening. The staff in the morning was so friendly and made us even more excited to try the place. But when we got there for dinner, it was mediocre and a bit like. tourist trap. It was loud with kid crying and just a lot of tourists. The food was underwhelming. We had a nice guy waiter but the lady who also waited on us was a bit demanding that the pie was only for one person. I could not finish it. I'll just enjoy my cookbook. read more

Excellent service from all of the staff. Our server, Yamir, was fantastic with all of the outstanding recommendations and very friendly. The decor is high end with lots of beautiful wood and lighting. Our beef and chicken pies came within 15 minutes and tasted delicious. The chicken especially had a unique flavour. This is actually a Pie Hole review. A friend of mine who is a chef told me about this place and I'm like YES! Adding it to my list. It looked so good and allowed me to sing all my Sondheim references... "These are probably the BEST PIIIIES IN LONNNNDONNNN" So I had to order online 24 hours in advance and picked up at the window. I got the potato and caramelized onion. Both the pastry and the filling were delicious. I think the hardest part about the whole experience was finding a place to sit, as a tourist who isn't bringing the pie back home or work. I guess it also helps if you have good weather. But that doesn't have any effect on my review. Worth the stop for sure. read more

Go on a Wednesday or don't go at all. The labor intensive, served only on Wednesday, beef Wellington is the only way to go. The inside is gorgeous and attended by seasoned and talented front of house team that knows how to please and cater to guests. We saw this Pie Room at Holborn on a show, and as we were in London for a visit, we made it a point to stop in. I love a good pie, and this did not disappoint. The pies were the best I've had! I ordered the Beef Cheek Pie which was amazing. The beef melted it was so tender, the flavor was throughout the whole pie. Amazing. My wife got the chicken and mushroom pie. We both agreed that it wasn't as good as the beef Cheek, but was still a very good pie. We also both had a Scotch Egg. Again, this was amazing. It was my wife's first time having one, and she was utterly impressed. If you've never had one, you owe it to yourself. The food didn't look like a lot, but we both left stuffed, and in a food coma! The whole family crashed in our beds as soon as we got back to the hotel. I cannot recommend The Pie Shop at Holborn highly enough. Before an upcoming London trip, I'd wanted to try classic British cuisine in an upmarket setting. I found Holborn Dining room from a google search, and immediately decided to come here. I met a couple of friends here, we'd made a reservation here before coming. The dining room is classic and elegant, and the service was efficient and polite. We ordered a few things to share between us, the charcuterie plate, fries, and two pies, one of which was the curried mutton. I was glad to tick off mutton from the list of things I hadn't eaten, but the mutton pie was served in mango chutney sauce, and it had a strange taste with the meat, but overall it was still good. This is the definition of "splashing out." In no other world would you pay £22 for a steak and kidney pie...or any pie. Having sampled said steak and kidney pie, I can confirm that it's good--but would you be orbiting the globe after tasting it? No. And you can get takeaway pie from their window onto the street for less than £10, 10-4pm or until they run out. We enjoyed our meal (my partner raved about the pate en croute, his starter), but when the tab for 2 starters, 2 mains, and 2 glasses of wine hist £100, we'll have to find our pie elsewhere. Tremendous experience at Holborn Dining Room - showed up late afternoon on a Sunday craving the roast. Was told they'd stopped serving the Sunday Roast an hour before my arrival but the exceptionally kind waitstaff managed to scare up a last roast for me. We had an incredible meal at Holborn Dining Room last night with a group of three adults and two kids (12 and 10). To begin, they have an unbelievably extensive list of gins. I don't know much about gin so I asked to speak with someone who does, and Eleonora, who runs the bar and cocktail program, came over. She was incredible -- so knowledgeable, she listened to what we liked and delivered two amazing martinis for my guest and me. We ordered oysters from Scotland which were delicious. Our server, Rocio, also deserves a special mention. She too was highly knowledgeable, friendly and added greatly to our experience. Between us, we ordered several of the savory pies which are one of their specialties, along with a ribeye steak and the Dover Sole. All cooked to perfection. I asked Eleonora what drink would go best with my steak and cheese pie, expecting she would recommend a glass of red. But she confidently said: "A Negroni..." and the one I got was the best I've ever had, in part because of the unique gin it was mixed with. For dessert, we had the sticky toffee pudding and the rice pudding -- both exceptional. And Eleonora poured us a digestive of gin that she herself had concocted! We've had great meals and experiences during our last 10 days in London, but this was the best, due to the food, ambiance, drinks, and most notably, the service. read more

The initial impetus for coming here was twofold. It's next door to Scarfes Bar, and it is supposed to have the best sticky toffee pudding in the city. The bar here is fantastic, but it's not a relaxing visit to Scarfes. The sticky toffee pudding is excellent. It's right there with the one I make, and that's saying a lot. That all said, it's the only place I came to twice on a very short trip to the city. The restaurant is the best of everything that is "London". Excellent food, a great location, professional service, and a beautiful room. This is "diner" food elevated to a very high level. I just had a friend ask me for a fairly priced restaurant that served good food he should take his friends to when he was in London. This was my first recommendation. I just wish I had found the dining room several trips back. I will be making it a requirement to visit here on any visits to the city going forward. read more

This place earns its reputation. Meal was fantastic from start to finish. The bread was done perfectly (as a home bread maker I was amazed at how good it was). Drink menu was extensive, as was the wine list. Salmon and lobster as starters, we all and the pies- which truly are the star of the show, just delicious and perfectly done, mutton and mango was delicious. Sides were tasty, carrots were done just right, not too soft, fries (chips) were thin and crisp. Port wine and cheese plate to top it all off. The dishes ordered: scotch egg, chicken chanterelle pie, risotto, chicken salad, Mac and cheese and finally truffle Parmesan fries. I really had no complaint on any of the dishes since they were all well seasoned. The scotch egg was perfectly tender in the inside with a crust. The risotto had a great toothsome bite and not too heavy with the spring veg. The chicken salad was perfectly dressed, surprisingly flavorful and chock full of chicken that was still moist. The Pie Room is a designer's dream filled with beautiful copper molds, cookware, and electric appliances. The Pie Room can be reserved for private parties and classes are held in this room. The staff is very kind and attentive. The cocktail menu is fun and diverse. The food is amazing but I felt a little pricey for what I received. I loved the Scotch Egg. The Stone Bass Fillet was alright. I have had better Sticky Toffee Pudding in London. A 12.5% service charge is added to your bill. Reservations recommended. It was my last day in London, and I was fretting over my absolute dearth of sticky toffee pudding. We were really down to the wire. When in doubt, go with a classic. My counterpart has enjoyed business breakfasts here before and made an educated guess that this could be the solution to our lack of delicious desserts problem. It turned out to be the perfect choice. We arrived late, nearly 10, to simply have dessert and coffee. Lights were low, glassware was sparkling, snaps were taken. Highly romantic, really, if you're into that. We were wildly underdressed but the few guests still there weren't paying us any attention. Came only for a quick drink and snacks, and really enjoy the ambience, and admiring every little detail of the bar, the lamps. Great place to take a date or just a classy place which the venue and its theme is a great conversational topic. Gin was beautiful, amazing and had truffle chips was splendid. Took a client to the Holborn Dining Room for a Hump Day brekkie - and it was good! Beautiful decor - very art deco! Gorgeous, huge room with high ceilings, brasserie style. Service was particularly slow, which is surprising considering how popular it is for business meetings. I would expect my orders to come as I ordered them & the coffees to not have to be requested 3 times... So that was disappointing, but at least the staff were very friendly. The food, however, was wonderful! I had the eggs florentine and honestly it was the tastiest hollandaise sauce I ever had! My guest had the avocado which looked amazing! Nothing extraordinary but lots and lots of avocado which can be rare sometimes! They also have matcha latte & turmeric latte on the menu which is suuuper excited! Came here for a business meeting- The Rosewood is one of the most beautiful hotels I've ever seen and right around the corner from Holborn station so an easy spot to meet if you're coming on the tube. The Holborn Dining Room is an up-market, classy establishment with leather seating, mahogany and a gorgeous interior. It was 11am- brunch time- and the menu was simple; eggs, porridge, cereal, pastries, fruit salad, goats curd with honey etc. I kept it basic with a pain au chocolat and a pot of chamomile tea and even that was perfect. Felt a bit jealous of the champagne flutes I saw floating around on the waiter's tray! Would definitely like to come back and sample something more substantial. read more

This review is for the gin bar as I didn't eat in the dining room. I had certain expectations coming in. I knew the bar prided itself on having 400+ different gins. I expected it to revel in this, displaying a real love for the drink and encouraging patrons to experiment or try new things. Basically, I thought it would be quite engaging. Unfortunately, despite the alleged number of gins, the bar menu only includes a handful. I appreciate it might be overwhelming having hundreds of gins on a menu, but if that's your selling point, there needs to be some way for people to browse options. That's especially true as the bar staff were very little help. They seemed very busy (possibly doubling as waiting staff) and it took ages to get their attention. At that point, they didn't seem to welcome questions. I tried to get recommendations but rather than entering a conversation, the barman said he'd get me something based on what I said I liked. I'd have preferred more discussion, to feel more relaxed. That feeling was compounded when he brought back a pretty floral gin, which is my last favourite option, and nothing like the ones I'd described. On top of THAT, they don't even make the drinks in front of you! No performance at all. As far as I know, drinks could be pre mixed. For that, we had 3 drinks, coming to £45. It's a nice looking place but obviously understaffed and not willing to offer the expertise I expect at a specialist bar. If you are a gin fan, go to the Star at Night instead. read more
