I am an electrician, not a cook. But, I can cook better than this place. This place is an insult to BBQ. I may be weird, but I am always weary of a BBQ place that doesn't serve spare ribs. Why is always baby back? They were dry and flavorless. They had a rub, but it never caramelized and crusted. I am not even sure the ribs were smoked. They may have been boiled and thrown in the oven. The tri-tip sandwich was okay, but that's it. The bun was probably the best part of it. Tri-tip sandwiches have so much potential and they missed the mark. The best part about this place was the cinnamon butter that came with the corn muffin. But why a muffin? It's called corn bread. Give me a piece, damn it. Our server was a little slow. Just did takeout, so this is just about the food. Pulled pork, pork red beans & rice, 12 wings, 1/2 rack back ribs, slaw, onion rings. The food is okay. Pulled pork - completely foreign texture for the product. More like it's been steamed, then lightly sauced. Tasted okay but no smoke ring. None. Pork beans - Don't bother. I can't begin to think how this dish was conceived. Wings - When was the last time you had smoked chicken and it was pure white in color? Yea, me too. They taste great but.....they're. ...? Ribs - Weird but tender. More baked than smoked. Slaw - Tart, well seasoned, overall a good representation. Not quite Carolina tart. Onion rings - Standard bar fare. Solid batter, mild onions, flavorless oil. If you're a Q fanatic, lower your expectations. As a final note, the sauce is decent. Tends to have a higher vinegar bite with a tad bit of heat. Not worth the stop. With family living here in Moab for the better part of 10 years, I have my usual favs, but decided to try this place finally. Having heard reviews from family and friends that would range from 2-4 stars, I thought what the hell. Came in on a Sunday at about 530 and sat in the bar area. Service - Amy was very slow and not very attentive...so much so, that when she finally got back to the table next to me to take their order, they commented that they needed to look at the menu again because they had forgotten what they wanted she had taken so long. Took nearly 15 minutes to get a drink order in, despite there only being 3 other tables. After the order, it was another 10 before I got them...a tea and water. Food - "smoke wings"...ummm...yeah not so much. Although large, the wings had absolutely no flavor...definitely not one you would imagine if they were truly smoked. Another dead give-a-way was their texture. They were very rubbery, again not something that would have been likely with a smoked wing. If they are smoked, maybe in the off season the owner should send the pit master to Mac's Speed Shop (http://www.macspeedshop.com) in Fayetteville, NC to see how smoked wings are done right. Based on some of the other reviews I read, smoked BBQ lessons should really be on the menu. read more

Had a nice dinner here. Ordered the 3 meat combo with pulled pork, brisket and cajun sausage, sides of cheesy potatoes and sweet potato. Meat was cooked well, sides were fantastic, really enjoyed cheese potatoes. We were disappointed that they had run out of burnt ends and no names or descriptions of the table bbq sauces. Sat out on the patio with a large group that was thirsty and hungry. The staff got slammed with tables (there's a serious shortage of wait staff in town! but they came out to let us all know on the patio that we weren't being forgotten and very nicely asked that we give them patience. Totally understandable, very relateable, and good to know. Tasty grub, really good drinks and a *super* friendly staff. This review is long over due! Amy is awesome!!!!! She really took care of me for a week, I was staying near by helping my dad retire there. She was attentive, professional and FUN. She gave me great "local" ideas on where to go and get away from the stress of being cooped up with my dad. The drinks were great and they had entertainment most nights. The other staff was good too. Amazing! Nothing else to be said, but I will. The gumbo is perfect, full of meat, with just a hint of spice to make it true. The baby back ribs fall off the bone and the "Pig Wings" aka, pork shanks will make you ungulate for hours! Glad we came here and that we didn't fall for the tourist traps in town. The food was awesome, but the service was not good. We had a server who forgot our waters, messed up a drink order, forgot a side order, switched two other side orders, and mixed up the bill. That being said, he was very nice and apologetic--he just needs a bit more experience. The menu had a lot of gluten free options, including Angry Orchard cider and Redbridge beer. I ordered the BBQ salad with pulled pork, which was fantastic. My friends ordered wings, and French Onion burgers with fries (which they enjoyed as well.) They allowed our dog on the deck, too. This restaurant was pretty good. Great atmosphere nice bar. The waiter was nice and helpful. The food runner was a bit inexperienced. Food took quite a while to get to our table. We order chicken wings as appetizers. They were okay. Should have ordered them with no sauce. For some reason they tasted a little odd. Could have been the sauce. We ordered brisket and ribs. They were cooked well and were fresh. But didn't have much flavor to them and were a bit dry, some S&P or some type of rub will definitely Make them better . All in all I thought it was pretty good. Next time I come I'll get the big n nasty fries as appetizers and most likely choose the burnt ends as those are hard to dry out. This place was a huge disappointment. The food was only OK, but the prices suggested they should have been outrageously good. Half Rack Ribs - $29.95! Only 4 of the six were edible since it was an end piece - the two end ribs were tough nubs. My friend only ordered 2 sides - $4.95 for a half-cup of cold Mac 'N Cheese. $8.95 for a sweet potato. The pork was DECENT the brisket was FATTY, and had no flavor other than JUST OVERLY smoked. No meaty nom nom taste just fatty limp nasty SHIT. Drinks were just as weak/strong here as anywhere else in Utah but here they charge you double the price.... GUTBOMB about 8 hours after I ate their "food" I was stuck with a lovely feeling of Diarrhea/ throwing up, could figure out which until I had to do both, at 4am.... while I was trying to leave back to CA.... Just was not happy with this place. Decided to give it a try because it was across the street from our hotel. Service was pleasant and friendly, but our server seemed a little akward and didn't pay attention to what we said. We ordered 12 chicken wings and 6 pork wings, and asked for the cajun sauce ON THE SIDE. Both orders came out drenched in sauce. I hate sending stuff back, because... you never know, lol. We wiped the wings clean and the sauce was still pretty hot for me. Would have liked to have more control over the amount on there. The chicken wings tasted a little over cooked and tough, but the pork wings were tasty and tender. Our server also forgot to put in our order of french fries, which came out a little later, steaming hot and unseasoned. (We seasoned them ourselves at the table). BBQ sounded good and Yelp said this place was decent, so I stopped by to get something to go. The waitress was very friendly and quickly took my order. As I waited I noticed that they had live music in the bar area of the restaurant. I wish we could have had time to sit down and enjoy food and music. It took quite a while to get our order, and the restaurant didn't seem that busy. I probably waited 25 to 30 minutes. I had ordered 12 wings (round 10 bucks) and the sampler platter (over 20 bucks). The wings were a decent value I think, but the sampler platter... Not so much. For that price I would have expected more meat. It also came with two sides. We got the chardonnay carrots (tasted like steamed carrots), and loaded mashed potatoes (decent). The meat was nothing incredible, but it wasn't bad. The wings had an interesting smoky flavor that I couldn't tell if I loved or hated. The pulled pork was probably the best out of the sampler. Overall, I think that it is some decent BBQ albeit over priced, but then again, that seems to be very common in Moab. read more

I make mention of the last point because so far this week yelp has lead us to several not dog friendly restaurants all we were told they are dog friendly! Melina was our server. She recommended the combo platters for 3 of us and my daughter had a cheeseburger. The food was great. She had a perfect knowledge of the sauces which are all great but the mustard based was my personal favorite. She recommended the sweet potato fries which were really good as well. Food was fast, service was on point and excellent which is hard to find in Moab. I come to the Blu Pig when I am in town and have yet to have an experience less than perfect. Started with the fried green beans and had the sausage, turkey, hashbrown casserole, beans and dirty rice. Everything was fantastic. The only knock off was the service. This food is amazing and is a great end to a good week here in Moab. We came for my son's birthday and he loved the ribs. Staff was great and helpful. I loved my combo platter. Turkey was moist, pulled pork was tasty and brisket was way better than I expected (sort of a brisket snob). The bark was nice the brisket itself had just a little snap to it when pulling and smoke ring was beautiful. Most of all you MUST try the gumbo only thing missing was my side of rice but overall it was flavorful not over powered by spice and certainly delicious! Enjoyed my meal. I got the slider platter to sample 3 of the meats. Tri-tip and turkey tasted great with the sauce they put on in the kitchen. Neither had that much flavor without the sauce, though. The pulled pork was a real winner. I usually avoid pulled pork because I find it tends to be dry, but this was unusually moist. I had onion rings for my side, and they were OK- they don't appear to be made in house. Our service was good. The wait time wasn't bad at all. First, if you are familiar with BBQ this isn't the place for you, it was recommended by our hotel staff. After visiting Arches National Park we stopped in at The Blue Pig. It was a 20 minute wait, although there were empty seats. We were greeted by our server almost immediately to take our drink order. I ordered soda husband ordered a Hefeweizen. Server was very nice. She brought back our drinks to take our food order promptly. I ordered the brisket and smoked turkey with garden salad and baked potato. Husband ordered tri-tip and brisket with beans and coleslaw. Both dinners came with cornbread. When the beer was served, it wasn't served with a glass and if your not familiar with sediment beer, you have to pour it in a glass. Hefeweizen it's supposed to be served with lemon too. But we'll give you that if you don't know any better. The dinners came to the table pretty quick. I'll say my salad and potato were good. But both my meats were lukewarm and very dry. You could have probably saved it with a sauce but the dispensers were not clean so I opted not to use them. Husbands meat also came lukewarm and dry. It appears that they must cut the meat earlier in the day and the meat is rewarmed and dries out. The flavor profile of the meat wasn't anything special either. Cornbread was not warm and did not come with butter or jam. Most places you are given this option. Husbands cornbread was so dry it fell apart when he tried to take the wrapper off. Inedible. Husband ate his dinner, I ate my salad and potato but only had a few bites of both my meats but decided not eating it was better than trying to. Server did come back to the table to check but by this time damage was done and we were ready to leave. Our experience was a solid meh. Wanting to take my wife out for an early birthday lunch, we got there at 11:30, just as they opened. As we were one of the first customers of the day, everything went quickly including receiving our food. Our server did the usual server things but it was obvious that her heart wasn't into it. The food was Luke warm, the meat look warmed over and even the pickled was wilted. My wife ordered the brisket plate and I ordered a pulled pork sandwich. It was quite obvious that the meat wasn't prepared recently. It was bland and had almost no smoke. It was sadly lacking in any bbq magic, almost like it was prepackaged food service items from Cysco. The saving grace was the sauce on the table which helped the few bites we took go down. The rest came home for the dogs. The prices and quality are those are of a typical tourist trap, super expensive (a soda is $3.75) turn and burn cash making machine. Obviously very little heart or love for the bbq process. The saving grace of our experience is that we didn't have to wait long to be disappointed. We're 0/2 in dining out for my wife's Moab birthday. read more
