This place is awesome drinks and its in the middle of were bands travel so we get a lot of famous bands!!! There service it great.

What's a girl to do when one of her favorite bands is playing in Grand Junction, but she happens to be in Denver for work?? Well, she rents a car and makes that 4 hour drive to the small hole in the wall venue to see them! I saw Pepper play here on a Thursday night. As expected for this band, there was a line up to get in at least an hour before doors opened! This venue was perfect for me to see an amazing band up close and personal! When you first enter the building this is where the bathrooms and bar and merch sales take place. Then you walk down to where the music takes place. There are no seats (at least I dont remember there being any). There were sort of three levels to it. The most lower level we'll call the "pit" because really that is where you go to be as close as possible to whoever it is that you are seeing. Then there were two more levels with a handfull of bar tables to put a drink or two on. Each level was separated by railing. It does seem like an older building, but I think that really just adds to the ambience of the venue. :) There are plenty of eateries in walking distance if you want to grab a bite before a show. Parking is street parking. I didn't see a garage in the area, then again I am not a local, so I can only state what I saw as I was driving around looking for a spot to park. I'd see a show here again if the opportunity arrises. read more

Nice smaller venue, would rave here again. July 30th my son took stage DJ'n for the first time as part of KSUHDILLA: Return of the Cheese so this particular venue will always have a soft spot in my heart lol Seriously though, it's a nice venue. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean, even late into the show which I'm not accustomed to at many venues. Security was friendly and not all power trippin. The bartender was smiling even late in the evenin. The acoustics were good but the venue could've let them go louder. I like that it's in the heart of downtown. I was able to grab a bite before the show and walk/ window shop on my way to the venue. Easy to get into and out of. I'll definitely go to a show here again when I'm in CO read more

EVERY single time I go to a show here the doors NEVER open on time! If you're in line, doesn't matter, people will cut in front of you and get a better seat when they do open the doors. They have all day to be ready and they never are. read more

I've been here several times now, and have to say that I am really impressed! First- the drinks are reasonably priced. I've spent the last 11 years in California, and I must say, it's awesome not getting a $25 check for just a couple beers. Second- Have you ever seen a bartender that seems like they hate their job? I don't get to go out very often, but, when i do it's usually to leave my problems behind and have a little fun. It really defeats the purpose of going out to get away from the daily BS of life, just to find yourself dealing with the bartenders/staffs problems. You will not get that at the Mesa Theater. Everyone here seems to love their job, and if they don't, it sure as hell doesn't show. The bartenders here are all class acts! Lastly, I hate having to deal with macho, insecure bouncers, and to put it bluntly, I have never been to a club that doesn't have at least one, with one exception: Mesa Theater. All the security staff here is over the top helpful, and not over the top macho. I don't see them jumping on customers just to jump on them. They are all very nice, and are very good at explaining "why" some rules are the way they are, and not "because I'm the bouncer and I said". Overall, I give the Mesa Theater 5 stars, because of friendly staff and a good atmosphere; a place where everybody is welcome. It also helps during hard times and a slow economy, one Jack and Coke doesn't cost $14. read more

I've been to the Mesa many times over the years. Love the acts that they headline. The staff are usually courteous and attentive. Overall...well done. But, man...y'all have got to do something about your house-mix. The mix was way to hot and compressed for this size room. Last night's Tab Benoit show was, unfortunately a wall of compressed noise. No drums, no vocals, and most unfortunate, no bass from Cory Duplechin. I've experienced this before with other shows, most notably, the last time Tab Benoit played the room. I love my music loud. But, this mix was heavy handed and very distracting from an otherwise outstanding performance. Don't know if Tab had his own engineer, or the Theater was using in-house, or contractors. Having worked in the industry many years ago, I tend to refrain from commenting publicly on this kind of stuff. But, damn... y'all gotta fix this. Please. read more

Well, the cat is gone and all that is left is ear crushing bass. I came here to see Mimosa and I just couldn't stand the bass. Loose clothing was being pushed backwards at every bass drop, and I could feel my hair moving backwards like the maxwell guy (I'm not exaggerating). I value my hearing and I am 100% certain that they had the volume at excessively unsafe levels. "More" does not equate to "better," and the gigantic amount of bass completely destroyed any nuance that the music may have had. This venue is too small for the power they push out of that audio system. Its like being trapped in a metal box that people are hitting with hammers. The show started a solid hour and a half after the start time Mesa posted on their Facebook, and then the awful opener proceeded to play for an hour and a half. I understand some of this is the touring artists fault, but damn. I've never had a worse time at a concert. I doubt I'll be going back if this is the new normal. read more

One of my favorite music venues I have ever been to. They have a separate bar section upstairs for those above 21 who choose to booze while they groove. It's a nice addition to have for those all ages shows. The downstairs is even tiered with bars to lean up against, so that you can actually see over who's in front of you. And for those who like to mosh, there's a pit just for you. Lots bands have fallen in love with this venue and keep coming back despite the sometimes waning crowds. Some folks who have stopped by: Gwar, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, Reverend Horton Heat, Flowbots, Tech 9, etc, etc, etc. Makes sure to check the listings!! NOTE: Mesa Theater is newly remodeled and they are boasting some major improvements!! Story Time: Once I was late for a show with my boyfriend a few winters ago. We had, in usual procrastination form, not bought our tickets yet. As it turns out, the band was sold out. As we stood there in front, him shielding me from the cold, we tried to figure out what else to do with our night, after deciding to just call it quits, we started walking to the car. A few seconds later, the guy from the ticket office had run after us saying that he had two tickets that we could have! He said we were just to cute to walk away all sad like that, so he gave us some tickets that were not picked up. After an already very difficult day, he just swooped in and made it 100x's better!!! We were even just in time for the main act. What a perfect ending to the day, I will always remember that. :-) read more

Do not go in the summer, they have no air conditioning. An indoor theater should be comfortable. If you do choose to go in the summer, take cooling neck wraps and a personal cooling fan. They should give out neck wraps and personal cooling fans with their logos on it if they are not going to pay for central air. read more

Last night I ventured to the Mesa for the first time. Excited to see Buckcherry. What a cool little place. Band was great and we could get right up close. Never did get a single drink the entire set as the bartenders were just terrible. They were basically chillin with their buds and pouring a drink here a there. Waited for 10 minutes behind one other that didn't have his drink either before giving up. Replace them and 5 Stars for sure. read more

Venue is cool, great sound, and cool that they are bringing in more artists. But the night I went, security was terrible! We were just dancing and going hard when one of the guards approached us and told us to quit or we would have to leave. And right after the show we had a chance to talk to the headliner, but a different security guard yelled at us saying we needed to "get the f*** out." Unique venue, great sound, needs better and new security guards. Maybe get new rails that can withstand people wanting to head bang too. read more

My two absolute favorite bartenders in the world, Lizzy and Michelle. You can find them keeping it mellow and laid back almost every day of the week, with their coloring books and fun anecdotes. The atmosphere is never pretentious or stuffy, and I always feel safe when I'm out by myself. I love the quality of drinks. I love the suggestions, when I can't make up my mind ,and I love enjoying a local act in the lounge while these lovely ladies serve up my favorite drinks! Also, when I'm down to turn up, I love catching a round of mainstage karaoke, or a fun Dance party that is truly always a blast. People actually dance, and the music is anything but typical. The themes are always fun, and the regulars feel like family. read more

It was impossible to communicate with my wife so I grabbed my coat and motioned I was heading out. Staff was rude and security ganged up on a drunk guy 10 to 1 and beat the crap out of him. Samantha Fish/AJ Fullerton bands were very, very good. High quality acts at a reasonable price ($20). Beer was cold and at a good price. The blues attracts a very eclectic mix of people, some young, some old, some in between. There was zero seating available in order to sell the most tickets possible. It is not easy to stand for many people for 3+ hours. Two solutions: book 2 shows, early and late (band schedule may make this impossible) OR charge a higher price so that there could be seating and still make the same amount of money for the tickets sold. read more

This place has been through MANY ups and downs over the last 20 years, but they took it to an especially LOW low this last Friday night when Beats Antique played at their venue. Their first mistake was making all of the customers stand outside an extra hour, without even posting it on their Facebook page that said the concert started at 8. Then they decided to tell all of the female patrons that they could not bring purses into the venue!!! Excuse me? So if you're a diabetic just go ahead and stick your syringe in your bra, that is if you wear one, and God forbid you're taking heart medication, and have no access to it during the show. And exactly how safe is it to go and put your purse/bag with all of your belongings in your vehicle? Isn't this the sort of thing we should be discouraging people from doing to alleviate break-ins? And what about all the patrons who decided to get there safely by taking an Uber, who had to spend extra money to take that same Uber back home to put their belongings there, and then return to the venue (which is exactly what happened to the photographer from The Daily Sentinel, among MANY others.) I saw the security manhandle a girl in a way that was very inappropriate, and they were even more rough with her boyfriend who was trying to tell them to let her go. This place smells like piss, the beer is warm (unless it's a can of PBR,) and aside from a couple bartenders, most of the staff suck. The bathrooms are disgusting, and this place is way overdue for some renovation so that there is more than one bathroom, especially one with ADA access. Do yourself a favor, and avoid this place at all cost. read more

Great small venue with a great sound system . They have a nice selection of acts, and entertainment (movies, local, regional and national bands). Great staff,whether the bartenders, wait staff or security. There have been a couple of times that I've seen people have gate crashed, and they were dealt with promptly . read more

Avoid! Was very displeased with my experience. I went this past Friday to see struggle jennings and the Saturday before. Last Saturday they had NO drinks in bottles to serve at all (on a Saturday night) and my $5 cup of beer was warm and flat. The venue was freezing and very dirty. The ladies room is always disgusting. I believe there was less than 100 people at each event. The owner of the club stood next to the stage while performers smoked marijuana and cigarettes on stage in front of a 13 year old boy and other minors (illegal). And when a fight broke out in front of the stage my boyfriend got grabbed and shoved by the owner twice and then talked down to and cursed at when he WASNT even involved. Spilled cups of beer all over him, myself and another girl. No apology afterwards even when confronted, just nasty remarks from brett (the owner). Who by the way looked NOTHING like a professional business owner. He looked like he just crawled out of bed and threw on 4 day old smelly grunge clothes. How he always looks.. Nothing has changed there and it's quite sad. read more

Don't use your credit/debit cards here! This is the second time on two separate occasions they have charged the amount owed. Then charged the amount including tip. Idk what they are trying to do!?!? They are either too dumb to run a credit card machine or are hoping you don't look at your bank statement and realize they are double charging you. read more

This is THE place to see amazing bands in Grand Junction. They bring talent from everywhere and in every genre - the rock and metal shows I have attended were all great, music and lights awesome - bands friendly and happy to be there even with small crowds. I hesitate to share this little gem as most nights the shows are just like a "Meet-n-Greet" with the artists coming off the stage to Mosh with the crowd and staying to sign autographs after the show. The staff are friendly and appreciative of repeat guests, they make a point to acknowledge you! Prices are amazingly cheap! Tantric show was only $20!!! Many shows are only $5 and they respect and honor our troops with free admission to many shows - the same for college students. Check out their web page and join FB groups for notifications of bands in the genre you prefer. This place is the BEST in GJ! read more

The worst music venue I have been to. I went to two shows hoping for a better experience but it was the same as before. The theater itself was filthy and could not walk around without your shoes sticking to the floor. The security workers were rude and unhelpful when there was a conflict with a rowdy audience member. The only good thing was the separate bar upstairs, yet the drinks were over priced and watered down. I would not recommend this venue to anybody. read more
