Recently, we came back for a mini reunion and made Eberle a place where our party of 8 could relax, unwind, and reminisce of yesteryears while enjoying the beautiful views from the covered vineyard deck, and needless to say we absolutely had a blast! The tasting experience was still complimentary thanks to the blessed heart of Mr. Gary Eberle (thank you kind Sir), who also happened to grill up some delicious meats and smoked sausage that day (Santa Maria style), which was the perfect pairing to his wines. Special mention to Stephanie, who did an phenomenal job guiding us through the last cave tour of the day...and Mr. Eberle, she truly did your story justice (and then some!). WOW! We were buying wine for dinner and took Liz's suggestion and it was excellent. We also bought one of Jeff's wines. It was even better. Jeff, when we visited Justin we met Timothy. We told him about our experiences in Cambria and you. He said "you were the man" when you were the wine maker there and are largely responsible for their success. He was one of the first Americans to train in Bordeaux, France and this is a rarity to find in a winemaker here in the States. Everywhere he goes he leaves a trail of highly rated, amazing wines in his wake. He and his wife, Sonya, are such wonderfully fun and kind people, you will feel like family when you're there. Makes sense since we were in Paso and they're famous for their big bold reds. I did enjoy their cabernet sauvignon the most in the tasting, however the puors were less than an oz, which was just enough to get a sip in. I was disappointed in that especially as a potential buyer looking to get understand the wine a bit more than a two sipper. THE FINAL BAMBOO: A wine tasting of four wines with a very miniscule tasting pours was around $40.

It was pretty hot, so about halfway through the tasting, we sat down at a table in the shade and walked up for the rest of our tastings but by that time, a large group had come through so the server was busier but still managed to remember where we were in the tasting. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and gave great suggestions. When we were done with our tastings, we walked around the property to look at the sculptures and the grounds. What made it especially frustrating was watching parties who arrived after us get their cheese orders and drinks served before anyone had even started assembling our sandwiches. It was clear the shop was understaffed for the holiday weekend, with one person managing the counter and another in the back prepping. We ended up asking to take the sandwiches cold just to get out the door, only to have both stuffed into one small bag, sloppily wrapped. The soup, unfortunately, came out lukewarm regardless. None of this felt malicious. The shop has an unhurried, artisanal quality that's part of its appeal, but that can't fully account for the gap between the experience and a nearly hour-long wait for a simple lunch order while others moved ahead of us. Since it's more of boutique, the bottles are quite pricey, mostly ranging near the 100s. But it was our favorite the whole weekend we went there. And we bought 6 bottles. We loved the spell and got 3 bottles of that! It's a Syrah cab blend. Has the Paso flavor that we love. It's not a vineyard, just a tasting room but worth a visit. We met the wine maker too. Friendly and attentive service. Can't wait to pop open a bottle at home soon!
