Wow! We ordered catering for 10 of us for a meal yesterday, and it was DELICIOUS. The regular turkey was super moist and incredibly flavorful, and the smoked turkey was amazing. Everything was hot, fresh and tasted great. The customer service and delivery was some of the best I've ever experienced. We will definitely be ordering again and look forward to going in to the restaurant to try some of the other food, as well. Not sure what's happening at The Bird. Was this a one time occurrence? We went to The Bird on Mother's Day. Arguably one of the most busiest days of the years for restaurants. This was almost a complete disaster. When we walked in, at their posted opening time, the place was already pretty full. It took a while for us to get seated, because we noticed an immediate problem. There was only person running the whole show, the manager? He was running around taking care of everyone. He let us know, all of his front staff didn't show up for work. He was essentially running around, taking orders and bartending for all the guests. One table in particular couldn't read the room and was being "just a tad bit" extra by taking up all of his time which didn't help the situation any. Luckily, as I was waiting outside for one final person in our party...the chef/cook arrived. Okay, no person in the kitchen would have completed the perfect storm. Eventually he found he way to our table (and again apologized profusely) and took our orders. At some point our food did appear. The drinks didn't, but we did get those once we reminded him we still hadn't received them. Hell, I was going to go back and help him fill the cups if needed. In the end, the food was very good. Everyone raved about their individual order. Was it ideal? No, but it worked out and I really hope this was a one off and not a regular event. The bartender was also our server, maybe short handed for holidays, she did a excellent job multi tasking! Very friendly too. The restaurant is nice, I ordered something I have never had before ever, usually I'm a huge fan of their turkey of course. A warning: we were a party of two adults and three kids and an automatic 25% tip was added to our bill. We are generous tippers but prefer when it is our choice to go over 20%. Ordered the "turkey dinner." They plopped it down, then smugly informed me, "Oh, we don't have cranberry sauce." That's like selling a car without wheels. Like a wedding without a bride. 10 stars ! we had our annual Family reunion on a Friday pm. We had about 50 people. Joe the owner/chef set us up. We had a lovely room, patio, buffet lots of excellent food! He went over the menus beforehand, set our price and it exceeded our expectations. He personally made sure things went smoothly and that we were happy. Service and food was very good. I've driven by hundreds of times and finally tried restaurant last night. My son and I each ordered fried chicken for $33ea. Thought with a name like "The Bird," fried chicken would be amazing. I was very wrong. Weird seasoning on limp crust. Chicken was cooked about 90%; too red/pink near bone and way too moist, almost wet. Disgusting. I picked away few edible pieces and left the rest. I reluctantly informed server (owner?) of under-cooked chicken. He was very nice and offered to cook it more. Wtf? He should have taken off bill, but only brought me Safeway-quality cheesecake instead. Couple sitting next to me had two dogs, one of which climbed on my lap. I think it's low class for any restaurant to allow dogs where food is prepared and consumed. Next time I will go to KFC. I typically only leave positive reviews on YELP. A must visit local spot off 12. Fantastic bbq and fresh oven pizza. Fresh pasta made on site! Fun and entertaining team with solid service!! Try the ribeye steak or any of the fantastic pastas. This is a loud, happy, very personable place. I enjoyed the vibe, and was fortunate to arrive late and get to talk to Chef Joe. I was taken by his presence and knowledge of serious sourcing, prep and pride in his plate. Our waitress, who I forgot to ask for her name, was on it and willing to suggest some other beers as they only carry Lagunitas IPA & not a Lil' Sumptin' which is my all time favorite. I went with a hazy Henhouse that she recommended and was not disappointed. Overall food was great, I got the 2 beers and the teriyaki chicken wings and a to-go order of thee famous open faced turkey, I'll be saving that for later since I crave this plate numerous of time but since they've moved from Mendocino Avenue to Hwy 12 I thought I'd better take up on the opportunity. Great spot! I had a brisket sandwich with potato salad and it was amazing. My son had their cheeseburger with tater tots. He loved it! Good place for families and/or drinks with friends. The Bird is a timeless gem. They have awesome bar service (shoutout to Arman) and all their dishes are deliciously high quality. Good spot for watching sports as well. Armond was the best! Came for happy hour and had the best service ever. I live on the other side of the county, but will tell all I know what a great experience we all had. He was very attentive, but not lurching and even asked what we wanted to hear as far as music (we were first party of the evening). Great drinks and friendly service. Very cute atmosphere and it is comfortablely temperature controlled. The pepperoni pizza is wood fired and was delicious! So disappointed with the turkey sandwich I bought for Christmas Eve. It had chunks of turkey(which was cold)and a slice of wonder bread some mashed potatoes and stuffing. The turkey was dry(no gravy), the mashed potatoes were good but the stuffing was way too spicy(a seasoning that tasted like too much rosemary). Wanted to like it but way below standard. The food is delicious, (I can't recommend the nachos enough went back the next day just for those) The ambiance is that of a pub/ sports bar, the wait staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The sound can carry a bit and when they're full it gets a little noisy, but I don't know how they'd fix that unless they went around shushing everyone. Long story short 10/10. read more

I can only rate this upon the one experience we had. First time ever ordering a precooked thanksgiving dinner and was scheduled for AM pick up. Staff friendly and tons of meals were sitting on tables ready for pick up. Woman verified that reheating instructions were in the bag and reviewed our order - 2 bags and one box with a bird.. Following instructions made timeline - reheated bird, all the fixings on the stove. Turkey was in a oven safe bag sealed, with juices in a disposable tray. I follow instructions exactly as given. When it's time to cut the turkey- the juices look pink... this doesn't look right but I'be never done a turkey like this.. I remove the turkey and it's not the lovely brown- but again is it the bag? I begin to slice and the top of the breast is done but an inch down it's not.. meat has different consistency. Since I'm not at my own home, no thermometer to temp the bird. I call hubby in a panic as he is working and a chef ... he walks me thru a few things and I discover the cavity of the bird has neck and bag of innards. I cut a few pieces and microwave it as im working with an elderly lady .. this was our thanksgiving. Microwaved (now dried out turkey) for thanksgiving. We honestly could've bought tv dinner and I replace it. Lots of sides - that saved it. Potatoes were favorites, stuffing decent but not exceptional, gravy not a fan (tasted like the powdered mix), had cranberries, and rolls (just ok). You are paying for convince- this was NOT that due to an oversight of not cleaning bird properly- question if they temp the birds to ensure they are done? Mine had the little pop up thing it wasn't popped up- but I thought maybe it was defective as we never use them. I salvaged some meat that would need to be recooked for another meal. I went into The Bird to have lunch on a Friday afternoon. It was my first time in the place. As others have stated, you just seat yourself where you want to. It would be nice if there was a sign stating to "seat yourself". They have a full bar and I would guess there were 12 to 16 stools. They were all filled, and not being there for a drink that was okay. I grabbed a table and we were greeted by a nice server. I asked about the beers on tap and was recited a list to choose from. A suggestion for the management of The Bird would be to have a written list of the beers, both on tap and not. The first thing I noticed after receiving the menu was.... man, this place is expensive. $21.00 for a hamburger?? Wow! I ordered a calamari appetizer at $16.00. When it came it consisted of smaller tubes with an unseasoned (pretty much) breading. Was just ok, but not $16.00 worth at all. I also ordered a burger...yes $21.00 and it came with fries. I think I read something about the meat being a mixture of Tri-Tip and some other beef (maybe steak), so I was expecting something special. The bun was soft and fresh, but the type of bun made for a soggy mess when I tried to eat it. Also, as good as the meat was supposed to be, it needed salt and it didn't taste like it was cooked over a flame. It had no hash marks or grill marks and no flame broiled flavor. I actually think the meat mixture could have used more fat for flavor. The fries were good enough. Anyway, the meal in general was good enough, but nowhere good enough for the price. The burger should have been $12.00 at the maximum and the calamari $8.00. I'm not sure what the tap beer cost me, but I think it was about $8.00. Typical for the micro brews in the area. The other items (plenty) on the menu were priced high for what you get as well. The surroundings were okay, but louder than I really like. I could only imagine how loud it could be in the evening with a crowded house and live music. If it were to get busy, I'm not so sure you would be able to park on the property. Maybe on the highway, not sure. So, if you wallet is too thick with cash and hurts you when you sit down, try the place out. OK food, and your wallet will be much thinner when you leave. read more

We landed in Oakland and drove straight to The Bird for an early supper. We immediately felt like we walked into Sonoma's version of Cheers. While they didn't know our names, we were welcomed warmly. Service was prompt and attentive. Our food was great, served quickly and at just the right temp. Great margaritas and a performer was just settling into the beautiful baby grand at the entrance as we left. Wow! Just wow! My husband and I finally tried this place after driving by it for years... we were blown away by the food.. first it's a very casual vibe cool neighborhood spot, self seating. We shared the brisket sandwich which was a large portion of wonderful flavorful meat. We also shared the pulled pork nachos, Also nice big generous portion and was amazing, ( the chips were homemade and so good) The owner Joe was so welcoming and nice to us , very hospitable. Had dinner again tonight at The Bird. I had the halibut with the best pesto pasta I've ever had. Veges were so flavorful as well. Husband got the squid ink Pasta with fish. He said it was the best he's ever had. Shirley was our waitress again and she is the real deal. Sweet, charming and just delightful. The menu is amazing. Everything you can possibly ask for.
