I didn't realize how close by a cute little farm like this was! It was pouring the day we went, which we originally wanted to Apple pick, however there was a surplus of apples to choose from in their market as well as cinnamon bread, cider, pumpkins and more fall things! The best find- old fashioned donuts! So yum. I'm giving this place 5 stars because they have such friendly teens working the front, and a very very social little girl stocking the shelves! Picture an apple farm on a cool crisp fall day, with hay rides and pumpkins and of cours apple picking. We're talking candied apples, terrific homemade pies, several varietes and I'd be remiss to NOT mention the homemade bite size donuts, awesome. We use to take our girls here when they were little and they luved it. We still go, who doesn't like a warm apple cider in the fall or a freshly made caramel apple, sooooo good. I went to spend time with a volunteer group from church. It was a lot of fun. We were helping them to get the food off the trees before it was too late. It was at least 25 of us. I think that did it. I worked in a nectarine aisle, and then two other girls did peaches and a bunch of people did apples . It was lots of fun. Had a really good time. They're always looking volunteers to help. It was a great way to meet people connect with new friends. Your businesses doing fairly well family member has reopened it thank goodness. We all he was so concerned I was gonna end up being bought over by someone who didn't care about the land they would end up building houses or something on it but luckily that did not happen. The girl making all the pies, etc. on the property she is actually a local girl from the area. Went to King Phillip the high school here and she has now working for the farm. Everything she makes looks amazing. It's all delicious fresh made from scratch meat right in house. You can't go on well worth the trip. Whether it be by yourself or bring your family for a nice day of picking apples and having a treat a great way to make memories. read more

Such great news that the next generation is stepping up to run The Big Apple! For years families have gone to pick their own or purchased already picked fruits and vegetables! Their apples in the fall are amazing and are sorted for you by type. Though I like the items that they offer, I absolutely LOVE THEIR PIES!!! The crust cannot be found in any other pie I have ever had. Being that I prefer pie over cake any day, a good crust is critical and their flaky, tasty crust is unsurpassed! I was so disappointed that my Thanksgiving table would not showcase their pies when I initially heard that they were closing for good. Fall is amazing there - pumpkins, apples, candy apples and baked goods galore! I hear about the donuts being great, so I will add that to my list! Cool! Driving around, we stumbled upon this place and just had to stop in after seeing the orchard and inviting facade. It's a small shop with many items like jellies, syrups, homemade pickles, baked goods, fresh fruit & veggies and APPLES of course! So we ended up buying a ton of different things and I just had a slice of the pie. My oh my was it yummy!! Crust is thin and the pie if FILLED with fresh crispy apple. Warmed mine up and topped it with a scoop of ice cream - wow! I definitely liked all the variety they had here...and the apple picking will begin in September! There's also a cool board listing all the types of apples they have and their characteristics (crisp, sweet, tart, good for pie, etc.) Stop by if you can! I am taking a star away because they only take cash or check - and we didn't have either. They DO have an ATM at the back of the store but it will charge you a card fee of $2.75 to withdraw. I was really looking forward to my yearly trip to the big apple-- I have fond memories of family outings & it was my first recommendation when asked by others where to go in the area.  When I went today the employee at the register was wearing a mask with "HOAX" written across it. The employee then made a point to argue with the customer ahead of us in line about their (the employees) views on the CDC, by yelling across the counter as the customer (an elderly man with mobility issues no less) tried to exit. Regardless of their/his political leanings, his crass and utterly ableist attitude turned what was supposed to be a fun afternoon into the opposite. The delicious food and nostalgia are not worth supporting a business that openly antagonizes their customers, both with their actions and their words. I will not be back again and will no longer recommend it to anyone. read more

Drove quite a distance to buy some donuts only to be told no Apple Cider Donuts and Cash only. Brought my dog and asked if it was alright if he came into the barn, the cashier said yes there is no one else here only then to be scolded by a Lady who probably I assume worked there telling We Don't Allow Dogs in Here. If you're a newbie to this place, take my advice, cause I had a learning curve when I came this past weekend. The main barn that you come up to is not where you pick apples. You can park here and pay $3 per person to take a hayride to the orchard, or you can drive past the barn (on your left) and take the next street on your left to get to the orchard yourself. If you drive there yourself, there will be signs to guide you and at the top of the hill where will be people selling bags ($15 small bag, $25 big bag). What I liked: Their caramel apples are the bomb. They're loaded with caramel and somehow even easy to eat. They also have a bunch of pickle barrels with homemade pickles. Awesome. What I didn't like: Utter confusion trying to find where the hell to pick apples, terrible signage. There are signs that say "$3 hayrides" but also signs for pony rides, so you don't assume a hayride = getting to the orchard. Also, they serve their apple cider donuts cold. But hey, I'm a fall festivities snob! Oh and the trees were all over-picked. It's the beginning of the season and there were NO cortland apples, the trees were bare, except for the tippy tops, but they'll holler at you if you climb. All in all I liked this place. They have apples, apple cider, apple cider doughnuts and caramel apples which are all must-haves for an apple farm in the fall. read more

This is an experience that you should have, and soon! We go every September now for the most delicious apples ever! You get a really fun and educational look behind the scenes of this farm/ bakery! Everything was so fresh and delicious! I don't want to say much more because you really should go and check it out! The hay ride was great too! And only 3 bucks! I had an idea for it actually... how about adding a wireless headset PA thing for the driver and then he could give a little history of the place and identify all the different things you grow as you pass by. I grew up in Wrentham and had fond memories of going to the Big Apple after church. My mother would buy apples and we would enjoy warm donuts and fresh cider. It had a place in my past as always being pleasant and was always a nice experience, until this afternoon. The staff were not personable. They have no soft skills or they are just generally unfriendly. It was no longer the warm and inviting place that I once knew. The Big Apple that I used to love is now in the past and I will not be returning to what I now just an orchard with a convenience store mentality where treatment towards others is so "third person". read more

For 1 years I lived in Wrentham, the town just off route 495, Rt 1 and 1A. One of the gems there is The Big Apple Farm. Fall into winter they are open. You can pick apples and visit the shop. I'm very impressed! The place is HUGE!! I mean apples for miles. We came the last weekend of the season and they still had tons of apples left. The workers are really friendly and helpful. The hayride operation is amazing. You don't sit on the actual scratchy hat bales but on cushioned bench seats. 5 stars right there alone. The Apple selection is awesome. There were Gala, McIntosh, Cortland, Honeycrisp, Empire, Fuji and many more. All types had tons left too! The bag prices are $25 or $35 depending on how many apples you want. We went with the smaller bag and I think we'll have PLENTY for eating and baking! The shop is adorable. The homemade donuts are amazing!! I also bought the Apple salsa because how could I pass up that opportunity? They sell Apple butter, jams, steak sauces, vinegars, multiple produce options, Carmel Apple kits, pies and baked goods, chocolate and candies... SO MUCH STUFF!! This place is so worth the visit! Love this farm! Went blueberry and raspberry picking. Soooo many berries and so cheap. Staff is friendly, and the aisles are not crowded at all. No screaming rugrats, just a few well behaved kids with their parents. The lanes themselves are very well taken care of -- clean fresh sawdust between plants, no rotting fruit attracting insects, and easy to access berries. Also had amazing ice cream - maple walnut was creamy, not too sweet, and fan-f-ing-tastic - but beware of the portion sizes... a large is at least a pint!! Bonus is its proximity to the Wrentham Outlets... what could be better than a morning at the Barney's outlet followed by an afternoon of berries and ice cream. :) read more

Lovely little apple-picking farm. There were rows of Cortland apples, McIntosh apples, and Empire apples during my mid-September visit. Not a huge variety, but the apple quality was good and the quantity was plentiful! $25 for a small bag and $35 for the larger bag. There's also a $3 "hayride" to and from the orchard. It'd be nice if they offered a walking path from the store to the orchard because it's really not a far distance! The warm, fresh apple cider donuts were worth the wait in the 20 minute long bakery line. FYI, there's a limit to a dozen per person! The pickles they sell are huge! The mustard pickle tasted just like mustard so I personally loved it... it also sold out by early afternoon so I guess it's a crowd favorite as well. Didn't get to try the ice cream but based on the line, it must be good! Overall really fun experience for a group of friends or families. Highly recommend! read more

Pros: fresh donuts go great with the cider. The kids enjoy watching the apples come up the conveyor belt and get sorted. Friendly staff. Most years you can pick your own apples. Cons: it's become a bit yuppified over the past 8 to 10 years with Range Rovers and BMW outnumbering Chevys. The outside is looking tired. Aluminum siding, any large sugar Maples that once existed have died and have not been replaced. Nowhere to sit outside and enjoy your cider and donuts. I realize it's a farm but it's looking shabby and they could do a lot more in terms of bring back some of the charm to the farm house. Tip: if you park across the street, be careful of large rocks that could destroy the bottom of your car. Tip: cash or checks only. No credit cards. read more

The reason that I give them 5 stars is because of what they do. Every year, I can contact them during pruning season and they will sell be bags of apple wood for SHORT money. I use this wood for smoking food during year. The Apple wood from the Big Apple has made some of the best BBQ I've ever made. Oh, and the fact that their Apple Cider is some of the best around! They're currently selling apple-cider donuts. They don't cover the donuts with cinnamon-sugar, and there were no apple chunks inside. But they bake them fresh. (If get a bag of _hot_ donuts you should leave your bag open a little so the donuts don't get soggy.) Today there were no apples available for picking, but they were selling apples in their store. They also didn't have any apple butter, and they were charging $8 for a gallon of apple cider. Mount St. Mary's Abbey is down the road. There's a gift shop there with candy. The Big Apple Farm is a great place to spend an afternoon in Autumn. There's a large orchard where you can pick apples and blueberries, a greenhouse where pumpkins are kept, a huge barn where you can see the process of cleaning and prepping apples for sale, a little country store where you can buy apple and pumpkin butter or sample apples of all varieties AND an ice cream shop around the back where they make THE BEST apple cider donut sundae (with apple crisp ice cream, a fresh, homemade apple cider donut, caramel and whipped cream!) In the little store you can also buy amazing caramel apples, candy apples, apple cider donuts, apple pie, apple cider and other delicious treats. It gets very busy during Autumn but it's to be expected. Parking's tough and you may have to walk a bit to get there but it's worth it. There are also hayrides for the kids (and adults.) The apples aren't cheap but if you want a lot for pies and things you can buy the dented up ones for a good price. read more

I've come here every Autumn since I was a child, and it's hands down my favorite apple farm. They have the BEST apples-crisp, perfectly tart, extremely flavorful, and so fresh. When I come, food-wise I stop for a dozen old-fashion donuts-they're warm, freshly baked, and a classic. Next, I pick up a caramel apple-when I was a child I would also buy a second for the road because one really isn't enough. My family also loves their apple pies and cider. We had an awful experience at this place over two weeks ago. We were there on Saturday 9/28/13 and the service was more than worse. After staing in line for 20 minutes for an ice cream for my 3 year old they open another window and said they would help the next customer. So everyone was happy... Now we were the third customer in line and they closed our window. That made us the last ones afrer waiting for almost half hour. We left with my daughter screaming. We are NEVER going back there again and we'll let everyone around us know of our AWFUL experience. There are only young kids with no experience working at this place. Good luck! read more

Heard of this place but never visited and it is in one of the nicest parts of Wrentham in a very scenic section almost to RI border. It sits on top of a hill and it is surrounded by orchards and farmland and you would never know it is as large as it is if it weren't for the hayrides around the place. The farm store sells everything from fresh pies, donuts (plain not sugar), jellies, syrup and of course bags and bags of apples. It is small but has all sorts of things and also fresh picked vegetables and pumpkins. Prices are decent and it is fully staffed. Surprised to see a hayride here even without apple picking which was sold out. This place really is not a place to pick apples but more to just visit the store and take in the scenery. read more

This place is above average as far as your fall apple/pumpkin/hayride joints go. Parking is pretty easy, there are always tons of people there but it never seems crowded or hectic. I'm not a huge fan of this type of stuff in general, but my wife loves these types of fall activities and I think this place is as good as it gets. The cider donuts are awesome. read more

A charming 'lil shop with the largest variety of apples I've ever seen. The hubby & I wandered on up last Saturday afternoon after hearing rave reviews on their absolutely amazing baked goods and cider. With ample parking and a gorgeous back drop (absolutely lovely) I was totally amped up for a fattening, delicious experience. I'll admit, I was the teensiest disappointed. Granted, if you're looking for fresh apples of any variety under the sun, they'll more than satisfy your crunch craving and at extremely reasonable prices to boot. But sadly, they were kinda sorta lacking in the bakery department. I spied a couple packaged pies and individual slices out on the rack which, like a previous review states, did list "high fructose corn syrup" among the ingredients. When buying products directly from the source, specifically an apple orchard, this was a bit surprising. I managed to snag the single last slice of apple to give a shot. It was pretty good, if anything a little too sweet for my preference. They also had homemade (plain) donuts for .50 cents a pop: these were delicious but sadly, no apple type. The cider was also pretty tasty but for $8 a gallon, I wasn't quite blown away, especially when there are tons of other farm-fresh options available in the area for cheaper. BUT. And there's always a but. Their caramel/candied apples are Godly. No sogginess, awesome crunch, the caramel is totally the real deal and not a single browned spot on the apple, period. And unlike the gunk you snag at the markets, the apple itself was rockin' with tons of flavour and sweetness. So basically, if you're looking for rare, exotic or just totally tastacular apples in a lovely setting, this is the place for you. But if you're making the trip for the bakery alone, it could be debatable. That & the $2 giant head of cabbage we bought was sorta amazing. read more
