The good: They have some decent cuts of meat that are tough to find at other grocery stores. The Bad: This store seems to be extremely overpriced compared to others. It's really that bad. We go if we need some steaks only because other stores are shaving their steaks down to slivers. But it'll cost ya. The produce is really bad, usually old and rubbery. Go to Market Basket for better produce. Usually if we are making a steak dinner we buy all the ingredients at Market Basket and then come here to buy the steak. Everything here is about 10 to 20 percent higher cost. And it's obvious, the place is usually empty, you'll never see a lot of customers in this store. read more

Stopped into the Big Y in Franklin on Friday night around 5 PM looking for a quick, easy dinner. Headed straight to the prepared foods section and ordered the Beef & Blue panini along with an Italian sub. The sandwich looked and smelled great, but things went a little sideways. They were out of blue cheese for the panini, which happens -- no big deal. I even offered to grab a package from the cheese section myself, but was told that wasn't allowed. So American cheese it was. The real disappointment was the Italian. The salami still had the casing (skin) on it, and it was completely unchewable. I ended up having to peel it off slice by slice, which totally killed the experience. Nothing ruins a good-looking sandwich faster than fighting it just to take a bite. I'm sure I'll be back -- Big Y is usually solid -- but maybe not during the dinner rush. Attention to small details like this really matters. Big Y, do better. read more

Well it happened again, I tried ordering a pizza on Saturday Oct 26 at noon time in store in Franklin, and I was told that they are all booked up for the day with orders. Really? This happened just last week when I called by phone, with the same excuse. The guy sarcastically pointed to the orders lined up and said it is the weekend you know. I told him last week was a week day. So, what is the protocol on when to order a pizza and how many days in advanced is needed. Very frustrating to save the least. Give Mitch a raise! I stopped at Big Y after work to grab some balloons for my daughters 16th birthday. The floral dept was unmanned and no one was available to help. Mitch saw me waiting and jumped right in to help. Although balloons aren't his specialty, he inflated them like a pro and was happy to do so. Always has what u r looking for. Sale items r always in stock. Always a great selection of produce, fresh meats and cheeses. The deli case is always clean and neat. The food service dept always has a good selection of pizza and strombolis ready to sell in their case. The seafood dept is always ready to serve u wether its to buy and take home or they will cook or steam in house for your inhouse dining pleasure. Tanya and David were both so helpful, knowledgeable and friendly (great conversations with both of them!) David and I spoke about different frosting colors and which ones to pick so they wouldn't stain your teeth =P Tanya decorated the cake, not only was it moist, tasty & perfect...it was ready wayy before scheduled pick up! Stopped in on a Friday night 7 pm for some fish and chips and other foods for the family. Some online deal for $2.99 meal, but you needed to download the Big Y app. Wife went to front desk while we shopped. She met us near seafood counter and said to order. I asked for fish and chips, per menu only one option at $8.99. Counter person said "pollock or haddock?". I ordered haddock. Picked up order and went to check out to pay. Had $80 worth of food. Leaving we find that the service desk clerk who helped my wife load the app did it wrong and no app. We were charged $8.99. She went back and store manager sneered and was jerk. In the end we find out seafood counter clerk upcharged us for haddock order which was not on special. Mistake or bait and switch, plus night manager rude idiot means never again at Bug Y for us. Tired of wasting my money on orders they cannot get right or going in to get orders I've place ahead of time that they have somehow "lost or misplaced" (has happened to me twice within the past week), and I even had one employee snap at me and rudely say "what do you want me to tell you, it's not here". This location is super close to my new apartment, the staff is always very nice, they always have everything I need, and I save a ton with my Silver Card thing. The Big Y takes an interesting approach to the grocery store industry. They admit they offer the same goods at higher prices; however, their claim to fame is a supposed "premium shopping experience" which is mostly true in my experience. The employees are well dressed, the displays are nicer, the floors are cleaner, and overall it's a much more presentable operation when you compare it to the likes of Shaws or Market Basket. Is it worth it? I don't think so. Despite the county's somewhat affluent population, I don't think Franklinites are going to pay a premium just for the added illusion of a nice environment. The one area that Big Y truly excels in is the Butcher/Meat, Deli, and 'La Carte' departments. Their pizzas and subs are superior along with their meats. There is a greater attention to detail and it's without a doubt a caliber above what you will find at Shaws. The rest of the store is meh. read more

They had a trouble with my meat order today, and it took over 40 minutes. i Was annoyed, but they were polite and even discounted my order which wasn't necessary. My fiancé ran in here today to grab a few things. The store was in shambles, shelves empty, aisles empty, an obvious re-merchandising. While checking out she inquired as to why they were empty. And got "well change is a good thing" as an answer. And was made to feel like she was being rude for asking. While change IS good, empty shelves and aisles on a Saturday is NEVER good. Not to mention it being Labor Day weekend. Also I had inquired about an item I purchased there many times that I could no longer find. Overall I like the store- my one complaint is the repetitive scanning errors on items that have been marked down - particularly meats. I have had to return to the store at least four times in the last 5 months to get credits for meats that had been marked down but ended up having paid full price for. Unacceptable! The customer service folks even admitted that it happens a lot! I'm starting to think that Big Y Corp is ok with this because not everyone catches this. Otherwise they would make the necessary modifications to the reduced sale stickers / ensure cash register workers make sure the correct price is charged in order to avoid the repetitive miss-scannings, over-pricing, rippling off customers. read more

I had my first trip to the Franklin Store in January. I am hooked. The place is filled with a variety of fresh foods great sales and very helpful staff. My company was ordering weekly bakery items form another well known grocery store and we switched after getting terrible service. Delighted to have their goodies each week and I have started getting my groceries there and I live in RI! Bravo Team Big Y Franklin....I brag about you all the time. read more

Wow. Super clean, new setup and style. Friendly employees, Good prices. Better than Shaw's across the street, what could be better. Well, even though the Walpole Big Y is bigger, as it is larger with more departments and amenities, this is still a decent store. Currently, they are doing renovations inside and it's looking great. The store is well organized, clean, and well stocked all the time. There are no "weird smells", like the STRONG vinegar smell at the deli at Shaw's across the street, and the staff are friendly, polite, and helpful. There are also ENOUGH of them. So many times now has Shaw's across the street or Stop&Shop about five minutes down the road had lines four or five people deep, while Big Y continues to maintain no lines at all at checkout, and barely any waits at the deli (which from me is a huge 'thank you'). The parking lot is large, and never insanely busy (looking at the Stop&Shop at the Franklin Village Plaza) and the shelves are always fully stocked. Definitely my choice out of the three grocers in Franklin. It's not the best, but it outweighs the other options around. 5 stars. read more

We love Big Y in Franklin and it is the only grocery store we go to. We are remembered by employees who seem to appreciate that we continue to come back. We couldn't find Honey Nut Cheerios a couple weeks in a row and a staff member went in the back and brought us a couple of boxes. Produce, meat, seafood and precooked meals are always fresh and delicious. I just wish I saw managers out and about greeting customers as well. read more

Friday July 3, 2020 at 430pm; I called the Big Y in Franklin, MA to place a seafood take out order. The order consisted of 3 boiled chicken lobsters, 3 fish and chip dinners and 1 fried shrimp dinner. The Big Y employee who took my order (Derek) was not thrilled that I was placing my order and requested I come into the store to place my order. I explained to Derek that I have always called in the order and picked up. Derek was unprofessional and unnecessarily unpleasant regarding my order. His attitude was annoyed and put out that the kitchen would be closing at 630 and I was placing an order (reminder I called at 430 not at 625pm). I inquired with Derek; if it would be better to pick up at a certain time. Derek agreed and took my order. I confirmed with Derek that the entire order would be ready at 6pm on July 3rd. Derek still was not thrilled that I was placing a take out order; he had an attitude the whole conversation. My daughter-in-law arrived at 6pm to pick up the order. My daughter-in-law waited an hour for the order to be complete; a fried shrimp dinner (which only had 4 shrimp), 2 fish dinners (which were missing the tartar sauce & coleslaw) and 3 cooked lobsters. The lobsters were lukewarm, tough & the dinners were cold; which is puzzling since we were told the dinners were being cooked while we waited. The Big Y employees were rude and inconsiderate to myself and my daughter-in-law. I called to discuss the issue with the manager when the food arrived home. The manager Scott was very dismissive that we experienced this. He refused to believe his staff treated us this way. The food was awful; it was cold, rubbery and missing most items. Scott  was going to look into this and get back to me; I had to follow up with Scott regarding this issue. Scott's excuse was Covid-19 and not being staffed correctly. I understand Covid had impacted a lot of processes however Big Y was accepting orders for take out. The employees were extremely rude and inconsiderate! This is unacceptable behavior from the employees and manager. After my pushing Scott to understand my frustration with Big Y and how it is unacceptable to be subjected to this; he relented and agreed to refund my order. He was very passive aggressive and wanted to know if the food tasted better once he was going to provide a refund. There is no need to act this way. As as store manager you should be modeling behavior that your employees will see and follow; clearly the employees see the way Scott treats others and acts the same.  While my daughter-in-law was waiting she went to the bakery and inquired if they had cannoli dip; the employee working at the counter said yes there is dip in the back but I am not going to get it.  The employee stated the dip was in the back and too far to go and get it. The employee chose to to be rude; had the employee decided to state we are extremely busy and I am not able to leave the bakery we would have understood. Instead the employee acted unprofessional and lazy about retrieving the dip. The manager Scott also agreed it was too far for the employee to go in the back and retrieve.  The employee's attitude and behavior was unacceptable.  Big Y did refund my disgusting dinner however did not refund the sales tax. This is my second negative interaction with Big Y; the first time I chocked it up to establishments some times have off nights. The experience on July 3 proved to me there is an issue with the leadership within the store and modeling positive customer service behavior. read more

I can't say enough good things about this store. I have been a regular customer since they opened. Sure, there are times I may not find something I went there for but those times are few and far between and no different than any other store. Where this store excels is in customer service. Aung the sushi guy makes a special order for my special needs daughter every other Sunday when I bring her there. The deli people know her and always have a smile and a slice of cheese for her and her sister (who is also severe special needs). The seafood department is great and the staff always helpful and willing to go in the back to get you something if it's not out. The cashier staff is always courteous & pleasant. But the meat department... just wow. Today I had a craving for pot roast (it's in the upper 40s, rainy Sunday). There were none in the packaged meat case. The store was packed. I went to the meat counter and the gentleman behind the counter showed me two pot roast that were cut a little thinner than I like and also quite a bit bigger than I was looking for. When I hesitated, he asked if I'd like him to cut me a roast. I said I didn't want to be a bother and he said it was no problem at all. Went to the back and cut open a large packaged piece of meat and then cut me a beautiful pot roast from the end, trimmed it nicely and even tied it up for me. It was slightly more than I wanted and he asked if I'd like him to cut a little off (I said no, leftovers are good). In the past, Jason (the manager) has had them cut English cut short ribs to order. Try getting someone in the meat department to answer a question for you at S&S or Shaws, if you can find someone they'll grumble at you. This is just an amazing store from the selection, quality and service perspective. read more

I have been loyal to Shaws until fairly recently. I decided to give big y a chance a few months ago and it has changed my shopping habits for the better. Yes you will spend a little bit more. However you don't have to deal with the opioid addicted riff raff and buzzed townies that seem to inhabit shaws. The big y is also a lot cleaner than shaws. The florist, bakery, deli, butcher, seafood departments are spectacular. However the fresh produce section can be lacking at times. Some times it reminds me of pictures of Soviet era markets. A few beets and turnips and not much else. Hence the 4 star rating. Big y has some killer deals on some items sometimes and the silver card with gold coins can open up some great deals. The staff and management are very friendly and helpful. The best thing is they are adding beer and wine to therye inventory. I can't wait for it. read more

Very clean, well merchandised, quick checkout, good available service in the aisles, and its a smaller store so the parking is easy and its far more likely to be quick in and out trip than Star Market or Stop & Shop. Prices are fair, competitive but not anything out of the ordinary. Their loyalty card is really weird, with these fake coins you get once in a while when you play this weird lottery type game at the checkout. Lord knows who came up with that. Anyway, here's the key to this store... they have an organic, no-GMO, store brand (private label) that is GREAT -- "Full Circle". Relatively inexpensive organic jellies, cereal (which is fantastic), condiments, etc. Also, their bakery dept. does these salted caramel cookies that are KILLER!!! Not sure I'd call Big Y "world class", but they're pretty darn good. read more
