This Whole Foods in Bellingham is not far from my condo in Providence and I was in the area visiting friends. The store itself feels a bit smaller than other ones I've been to, but the cleanliness and the staff are top notch. I was looking for some beverages and they had a good selection of seltzer water, sodas and teas. I have always trusted their 365 private label brand, they do a great job on matching or exceeding the quality of national labels, great job, Whole Foods. The story of this chain goes like this, in 1978, twenty-five-year-old college dropout John Mackey and twenty-one-year-old Renee Lawson (Hardy), borrowed $45,000 from family and friends to open the doors of a small natural foods store called SaferWay in Austin, Texas. When the couple got booted out of their apartment for storing food products there, they decided to simply live at the store. Since it was zoned commercial, there was no shower stall. Instead, they bathed in the Hobart dishwasher, which had an attached water hose. Two years later, John and Renee partnered with Craig Weller and Mark Skiles to merge SaferWay with their Clarksville Natural Grocery, resulting in the opening of the original Whole Foods Market on September 20, 1980. At 10,500 square feet and a staff of 19, this store was quite large in comparison to the standard health food store of the time. Less than a year later, on Memorial Day in 1981, the worst flood in 70 years devastated the city of Austin. Caught in the flood waters, the store's inventory was wiped out and most of the equipment was damaged. The losses were approximately $400,000 and Whole Foods Market had no insurance. Customers and neighbors voluntarily joined the staff to repair and clean up the damage. Creditors, vendors and investors all provided breathing room for the store to get back on its feet and it re-opened only 28 days after the flood. Beginning in 1984, Whole Foods Market began its expansion out of Austin, first to Houston and Dallas and then into New Orleans with the purchase of Whole Food Company in 1988. In 1989, they expanded to the West Coast with a store in Palo Alto, California. While continuing to open new stores from the ground up, the company fueled rapid growth by acquiring other natural foods chains. Amazon bought Whole Foods Market for $13.7 billion on August 24, 2017. It was a much-talked about match that shook the world of retail. The deal saw an online powerhouse acquire a beloved organic grocer. It also marked a massive foray into the realm of brick-and-mortar grocery for Amazon. So far, the venture seems to have been a good thing for both. Amazon Prime customers get weekly specials at Whole Foods and the grocery chain gets the stable financial backing of a mega technology giant.

This Whole Foods used to be so good. Now it's terrible. It has gone downhill like you wouldn't believe. First off they don't sell a lot of stuff they used to. I used to come here for duck but haven't seen any in years. Like really? You don't even sell duck anymore, even Walmart sells duck. Walmart has whole duck and duck breast but Whole Foods doesn't have any. A whole bunch of snacks and drinks have been removed from this store too along with some other items including varieties of cheese. The hot bar is almost the same items everytime I come here. The chicken tenders and mac and cheese are out everyday. They really need to switch it up. I was lucky to come here on a day where they switched out about a 1/4 of the hot bar. They had 2 different Indian dishes which were good however the hot bar is EXTREMELY expensive. It costs about $8 for 8 bites of food. I've only gotten a sample 1 time here, they're always empty. The cashiers are very nice. They really neglect this location.

Line to get in WholeFoods during social distancing

WholeFoods Bellingham location was open during the COVID 19 pandemic. They did a great job of ensuring social distancing. The store was well stocked whereas many nearby stores had sparse shelves. Plenty of vegetables, meat and even toilet paper.

I've lived about four miles away from this place for the past six years, and yet I had NO IDEA that…read moreit existed. A vegetarian-based, organic market? Close to my hood? The idea blew my mind. The only reason I actually discovered this place was because I was on the Sweet 'n' Sara vegan marshmallow website, looking for a local place where I could procure these little delicacies (other than Whole Foods). And Green Street Natural Foods popped up. I dropped by one afternoon, mid-week, and was so, so happy with my findings. All sorts of vegetarian specialties (not the least of which was my favorite marshmallow!) and organic produce. Even vitamins! And the dude working there was super nice, super helpful, and made me feel good about shopping there. He even said he'd order Blue Mango veggie burgers, by my request. I'm thrilled that I actually found out about this shop. I will frequent it often, especially in the June-November months, since my CSA pick-up location is nearby. Psyched.

Amazing store that sells pretty much everything. They recently added machines for peanut and almond…read morebutter! They sell it by the pound so you tell Jason how much you want to purchase. You can also ask for a sample before you're committed. You don't want a jar of store bought tahini? They make fresh by the pound too. My recipe called for a tiny portion so he was cool when I asked for a small dollop. If you want local honey, guess what? They have them here too (regular and darker color). Plenty of CBD gummies, seeds, spices, and groceries at the back of the store. Shop is closed on Sundays. Parking is easy to find. If you are a regular customer, ask for a punch card so you can get a discount after 5-10 purchases.
