We came as a group of 4 for my mom's birthday. Located in the hotel with a beautiful waterfront view and nautical decor, you almost have a wonder view every direction you look. There's a ticketed parking lot but they validate parking which will cost you free 99. We started our evening with some green curry mussels which set things off in the best of ways. I ordered the flat iron steak with creamy truffle potatoes. Tender,juicy and full of flavor. My mom got the oxtail Ragu which had a good amount of tasty of pulled oxtail meat and a ridiculous amount of noodles. For a decently classy establishment this place has some hearty portions and I wont be the one to complain! The crispy skin salmon was cooked perfectly and the huge portion of cioppino didn't sacrifice flavor for size. Everything was perfect especially our service from miss Wanna, our server. Very friendly and attentive The only thing I could say bad about this was the berry cobbler, a bit of a let down but I wont knock them for it. Sigh... not much on the vegetarian menu. Kids can have macaroni and cheese. If only I could have had macaroni and cheese. I chose the Risotto. It was horrible. From the first bite, it was not pleasant. Weird flavor like lemon permeated but no other seasoning. Few vegetables. Never saw any sun-dried tomatoes, just regular cherry tomatoes. Few artichokes, a few mushrooms, and no spinach. Sounds like they have changed the recipe. I've had two meals there now that were not pleasant. Not cheap either. The tofu scramble was honestly the worst dish I've ever had. It had absolutely no flavor--just plain tofu with a side of ketchup. I tried adding pepper and more ketchup to make it edible, but imagine nearly raw tofu with nothing but ketchup; it was impossible to continue eating. I even asked for soy sauce, but they didn't have any.When the server checked in, I had to admit I couldn't eat it. The taste was terrible. We had just mentioned that we wanted to order some hot drinks, and even once our drinks hadn't been finished yet, he brought the bill again. Definitely not worth eating here if you have a choice. The ambiance is nice enough and the service was satisfactory but the experience was more than underwhelming. We ordered the oxtail ragu, scallop fettuccini Alfredo, and kids chicken and French fries for mains. We also ordered the Tamarindo Margarita and Aperol spritz. I will say I have had a better margarita from dive bars and the aperol spritz was toward the bottom of the scale. The oxtail ragu was clearly left in the microwave for too long and came out so hot it burned my mouth. The oxtail was also very overcooked and also contained smaller pieces with the bone still included which nearly broke my tooth. The scallops were inconsistently cooked and average. The one highlight was the kids chicken strips and fries as it passed the kid test with flying colors. I would also note that originally I was going to rate a 3/5 because both the server and manager checked on us and were made aware of the bone situation in the ragu and the manager offered to take the meal off the bill which we were satisfied with, but when the server came with the bill the meal had only been discounted 20%. Ultimately the took the meal off the bill but only after an additional conversation. It probably doesn't help that when we showed up for our reservation and requested outdoor seating we were told that there were lots of reservations and they could not accommodate, but the restaurant was very empty and stayed that way for the duration of our meal. read more

(We went from 6 people to 7 people) Unfortunately this meant we had to sit in the mezzanine away from the windows so it ended up feeling like we were at a conference cafeteria lunch in an old hotel instead of being by the windows, seeing the water and enjoying some natural light. It was a family reunion of sorts so that was disappointing to me since I wanted someplace nice. Service was very attentive and friendly but I didn't do a great job of studying the menu as it wasn't very extensive (fish and chips, burgers, brunch items etc). It's great for a hotel restaurant but missed the mark for what I thought would be a bit more memorable. I can't believe it's my first time eating here. I used to bike around the marina loop all the time and would always pass this spot. It has such an awesome view of the Berkeley Marina and the bay. We chose to have brunch on the outdoor patio, which has glass dividers that block the wind as well as umbrellas/heaters. Very modern inside and with huge windows...it's a lovely space. The brunch itself was solid. Prices are a little high but are to be expected as it's part of the Hilton hotel + has waterfront views. Service was friendly and the waterfront trail is right out front, so we took a quick stroll after towards the bay. Fried chicken breast sandwich is just a chicken strip on a bun, smaller than the tomato's. They brought my soup/appetizer at the same time as my entree. This place is just so so and I imagine stays in business by being the hotel restaurant. I have ate multiple breakfasts and multiple dinners during my 16 day stay and must say This restaurant was very disappointing, the setting is beautiful so that is the one plus. We love this location. It is gorgeous. We were told that the restaurant was going to be full and our initial party of 18 would have to be split up even though I said we would need to speak to the group as a whole. I was also told the checks could not be split, so I asked everyone to bring cash. When we got there, we were able to put our group together (two tables side by side) and we were also able to separate the checks. I am unsure why I was told one thing the day before then told another when we arrived. I like clear communication. The food and service today were just okay :( I feel like I paid too much money for a basic tasting meal, at least the company was good. The food was basic and not hot when presented. A few orders were missed entirely causing much longer wait times for some to eat. Also, service was slower than anticipated though the restaurant was not crowded. The servers were kind. We just didn't know what the hold ups in getting food was. We didn't appreciate the server who turned the firepit on. We went over to sit by it before leaving. That was a nice touch. [Thought I'd posted this at the time, but apparently not] Back at the end of May, I dropped into the Berkeley Boathouse; it's a beloved occasional splurge, a rare spot on the water with fun noshes and beverages and usually lovely staff. It was crowded, with no one at the host stand. I waited a few minutes until a server recognized and very kindly greeted me, then started leading me outside, where she knows I always sit (it was chilly and almost no one else was out there). All of a sudden, finally, the host (first name starts with D? Maybe Dj?) appeared and loudly rebuked the server with an accusatory "What are you doing?!" - in full view and hearing of myself and other guests. The server carefully explained that she was showing me to an outside (not inside) seat, at which the host dismissively said, "Oh, ok - do what you want," and turned her back. I was stunned by her rudeness (to both the server and myself) and inexplicable anger, by the explicit public shaming, when the server did everything right (and professionally), and should be lauded for same. (She's always been wonderful, and is one of the reasons I keep returning.) Ever since this incident I've avoided the Boathouse, though I really want to support its employees (including a different, delightful host on my previous visit). Gratuitously treating people under your management (if that's the case) like this is unforgivable. Power-tripping is not an asset. It also became clear that the host's approach to men is radically different and much more respectful, from customers at the bar to other employees. There's a lot to unpack here, with great need for basic training and human socialization. Or a change in job. read more

I stayed at the Double Tree hotel for work and this gem was inside the hotel. Great staff and everyone was so kind, constantly made sure i was taken care of. I ordered the calamari as an appetizer and it was AMAZING! Most calamari are either under cooked or over cooked with a fishy smell but these babies were just right! i was so impressed. Wifes meal brought out 10 minutes before mine. The my steak over cooked sent back than under cooked. $200 meal was lousy.

We drove down last year for their special Christmas menu and despite a delayed wait til they finally opened the restaurant, the food and ambiance was pretty good. we wanted to give them a 2nd chance this Christmas and booked our reservation for 12:30 this year since they opened earlier. As we sat down, we learned they're only serving brunch to our dismay. Our wait staff had no clue about a Christmas menu. No where on the website does it say what hours the "christmas special" is served or that its apparently a dinner only menu. This shouldve been made clear on the site as there were other guests also inquiring. The brunch menu was your typical/basic brunch - not even a few Christmasy items to choose from. The Christmas special menu should've been available starting after noon. Don't think we'll be back again next year - this place seems a bit disorganized in general. read more

This was my first time at the Boathouse. They hosted a "sip with a specialist" whisky event I attended. The whiskey event was delectable. The small bites from Doubletree's very own Executive Chef Matthew Thomas was superb. There wasn't a single plate I did not enjoy. Every plate paired well with the whiskeys being tasted. The Berkeley Boathouse is a great place to host such events and gatherings. The staff was amazing and attentive. It's located inside the Doubletree Hotel. Free to park outside instead of in the hotel lot. The ambiance was modern, romantic, and beautiful. There are lots of seating at the bar and outside dining as well. Will definitely be back to enjoy what the restaurant has to offer! read more

Really liked this place. Had great views on the outside and a warm fire at night. I loved the flatbread pizza and Brussel sprouts the most !! I didn't give 5 stars because I didn't care for the crab and shrimp roll and we tried ordering 2 more items from the menu but we were informed they had run out of something or didn't have a certain ingredient to make what we wanted at the moment. Not a night ruined but we wanted to try some dessert and out of 4 options they only had 2 available. I would go here again though! First time for everything right? Friday was a beautiful day at a roaring 91 degrees! The setting of the restaurant was wonderful. I arrived early thinking this place would be super crowded on a Friday... but it wasn't which was great! Made my way through the back entrances where outdoor seating was available and found a nice partially shaded table towards the back where I could still see the beautiful view of the water also to add its fleet week! So the jets were putting on a mini show before the big one! Greeted by a hostesses that had an attitude and was told that we had to wait in the front of the restaurant to be seated. Interesting because there was no sign that gave that directives in the back of the outdoor seating area. Walked through the restaurant to wait at empty hostess booth to have to walk right back outside and was told that the restaurant had "a lot" of reservations booked and outdoor seating was limited. Once I was seated I checked to see how booked they were... only reservations that was taken was at 3:30 pm everything else was open.... So I was then confused as to what was the young lady problem? I did notice there were " reserved" signs on 2 tables in the outdoor seating area. With all that being said 3-4 parties came in w/o a reservation and was given other options to sit at the so called booked tables and I felt like that was very unfair as a first time customer. I had a drink Jewel On The Bay and it was wonderful and my waitress was extremely happy and made me laugh! But unfortunately the hostess ruined my fist time experience, I won't be coming back if I have to be greeted by someone who's not in the mood or has an attitude and tries to cover it with a fake smile! read more

We stayed here over the weekend for our elopement I'm San Francisco and had our small wedding party lunch here. It was so last minute and about 8 of us. I knew it would be hard to find a place to accommodate that many people so we went to this restaurant on the hotel grounds. It was so convenient to have just right there and the vibes were soo chill and calm. We had lunch here and hung out at their fire pit. The next morning I had breakfast here again. The outdoor set up is really nice with having a ton of seating, fireplaces every where, outdoor heaters... I mean it is a whole vibe! Inside is pretty big as well. We sat inside for drinks and dinner. I ordered their white wine flight which came with 3 glasses. The drinks were really good and light. For food I had a burger and fries. The burger was ok but the fries were really, really good. I kept eating them even though I was full lol. I had a taste for something different (seafood) considering we were at the Berkeley marina. More so 4.5, we did a reservation through OpenTable and were running a little behind. Tried to call the restaurant and unfortunately no way to reach them. Luckily we were within the 15 min grace period. Parking was a little harder ( there is was easy paid parking) but in fairness there was a huge wedding going on. We quickly got seated and love when restaurants can honor requests if you ask. We decided to order some shareables and one entree since the menu looked great - and we were so glad we did. The cocktails came first and I love the Ubelicious - mad at myself for not getting a second one. Ambiance was great with the views and live music. We also tried out the two to tamarindo, some local beers and the stubborn old mule. All great as well. Food came in shortly after. Honestly each item had something to rave about and great portions. Just bummed they charged us $2 for 2 slices of bread ( in photo below ) that felt a little ripping off. The wings didn't disappoint as they had lots of flavor to offer, the mussels made up for not having oysters ( they should really have oysters ) great artichoke and the tartar was okay nothing to rave about but still good. Lastly came out our oxtail linguine and that too was amazing. The food was a good amount and we even had some leftover. Overall great place, would come back again, amazing views and good service. My friends and I were looking for a nice place for brunch when this restaurant popped up in the area. The restaurant is within the double tree hotel. There is parking in the street, but you can also have your parking ticket validated if you tell the valet that you're going to eat at the restaurant. I really enjoyed the view while we were eating, it was beautiful with the view of the boats and the water. I would say that there was a lack of customer service. The waitress was no where to be found when we needed something multiple times. It was also really cold in the restaurant. Other than that, the food was yummy. read more

The modern appearance works well for the restaurant. This is a great place for appetizers and cocktails. I suspect many meetings and deals are signed on the patio. Our curry mussels appetizer stole the show. With limited entreés we chose to do mostly appetizers. We had a cheese board and curry mussels to start. For entreé we ordered a side grilled salmon and asparagus and side fries.: By the time we left the restaurant was starting to fill up. All staff was attentive and pleasant. We had a mis-step with the "French fries" that the team solved. Parking is interesting. The paid lot is apparently $16. We found street parking near the hotel. Be advised that Google Maps will take you to another "Berkeley Boathouse" about a half a mile away that is clearly not a restaurant. When we called the restaurant we ended up in an automated attendant so we almost cancelled the reservation. Fortunately the map in Yelp was correct. read more

First of all, can I just say how stylish, easygoing, and comforting this place is! I absolutely love it here. It's not noisy at all. Food tastes good!
