Social Beer Haus - Babe Bites!

As we wandered trying to decide where to begin, we found ourselves looking in the windows of the Social Beer Haus and their sidewalk sign had Caesars on special. I was unaware of this establishment and discovered from Yelp that it is relatively new. We were greeted and quickly seated immediately noticing that the establishment is very large - essentially two rooms. The place is very open and modern! There was not much happening, as we were in early - just after 11:00 am. As I sipped my Caesar and the Missus sipped her $5.00 sleeve of Steam Whistle, we perused the menu to which we discovered featured a full spread of smokehouse items! Meats by the half pound with upgraded sides and a variety of sandwiches and burgers. I ordered the "Boy Named Sue" burger and the Missus had the club house (it had a clever name, but I cannot recall it). While waiting for the meal, we visited with the general manager - my Missus plans her companies events, so she inquired about private bookings which are possible. The Social Beer Haus website provides info on a number of "floor plans" and menu options for private parties. The food arrived and it looked amazing! Hot and fresh - presented on what seems to be a smokehouse standard baking sheet covered in butcher paper - fine dining this place is not. The fried jalapeno, gives you a little "bitch slap" with every bite which would make the Man in Black proud. I added an ice cold pint of PBR to top off the meal. I stole a couple bites of the Missus' club sando and it was delish - especially the bacon. All in all, the food was tasty and the portioning was filling. The Missus and I were boring in choosing the standard fries for sides, but there were upgrades like mac and cheese etc for an additional charge. Some of the other reviewers were disappointed in that they were expecting Haus in the name of the establishment. I saw "Social" and Beer" and didn't even notice Haus. You could get a smoked link - that is close to bratwurst I suppose. All in, it sounds like this place is busy during the evenings. It is worth checking out!

The corn bread was also very good and the fries were decent. What was disappointing was the meat! None of it was very hot, the chicken was way too salty, the beef was stringy and the pork was okay. Even the sauces (in filthy bottles) were underwhelming. A let down visit for sure!

He and the excellent Chicago hot wings make Fergus & Bix worth more than one late night Happy Hour visit. The wings are marinaded, fried, dipped then baked - perfect. I'm a little beer snobby, but my spouse says the in-house Wooden Ship beers are good. Great place to watch sports too. Lots of TVs but not too intrusive if you're not interested. Ambiance is warm and relaxed. Happy Hour offers some nice choices, and is twice per day every day as is the norm in this tourist town. Definitely recommended for folks who want a pleasant adult atmosphere. You also avoid excessively intoxicated and rowdy revellers. They're over at the corner of Rose & Crown and Drake.

Upon arrival, we were provided with a liquor menu but not a full food menu, and were directed to order from the happy hour menu. This created a bit of confusion at first, but we made the best of it. We ordered the Beer Board, which included a selection of sausages, Italian meats, cheeses, and pretzel bread. It was well put together, with good variety and satisfying portions--great for a late-night bite. Overall, while the experience wasn't exceptional, it was a decent stop considering the circumstances. It served its purpose and provided a solid option when not much else was available. That said, the bar itself is pretty decent. Carries some ambiance --perhaps a place you'd hang out for a few drinks.

We came here on a whim to find a nice place to eat as we were on our way to Lake Louise. We walked around town to find a place to eat and my wife loves Italian, so we tried to walk in at about 6pm. Luckily for us, there was an open seat (reservation are highly recommended.. it was packed). We were greeted by the waiter who gave us the choice of sparkling or still water. Fancy schmancy. We got the still house water. The place was packed, full, and a bit loud, but also romantic given the atmosphere and the views. Good place to take a date, but not a good place if you wanted a private booth/moment. I ordered the seafood linguine, and my wife ordered the spicy rigatoni alla vodka. We also ordered the little gem caesar to share, and she also go the coffee martini for her drink. I got soda. The caesar came out and it was one of the best caesars I had. It was presented by having two baby heads of romaine lettuce covered with caesar dressing. Very tasty and creamy. Very very good! Next time, I am going to order one for just myself! Only eating one baby romaine head left me wanting more! After the salad, the pastas came out and the seafood linguine was remarkable! Presented as a bundle of linguini with seafood on the sides, all covered in white wine/clam sauce. One of THE BEST seafood linguines I have ever tried! My wife's spicy rigatoni was spicy and had a kick (I am Thai so take that for what it's worth). My wife thought it was a bit too spicy for her, but overall the dish was meh. Reminds me of the pasta alla vodka at Cheesecake Factory, but without the sausage. I do believe if there was an option to add sausage, the dish would've been 100x better. The dish just got bland the more you ate it. And because of this, I ended up eating the rigatoni, and my wife ate the linguini lol. Just kidding.. kinda. We shared our plates :) I highly recommend this place. The rigatoni was nothing special, but everything else was spectacular. We were even contemplating going back there on our drive home, but it opened at 4pm that day, and that was too late on our schedule to wait. Nevertheless, we'll be back again!

Below are the dishes we ordered: scallop crudo -- absolutely delicious! The scallops were so fresh and the sauce was so yummy. Loved the crispies on top (potato?). This was my favorite dish from our visit! winter squash pizza -- this sounded so unique so we had to try it! It was flavorful, and the star was definitely the crust!! The pizza crust is the best I've ever had; it was perfectly airy and light! rigatoni carbonara -- the rigatoni was a bit undercooked and the guanciale was overcooked. Overall, we did not enjoy this dish and would not recommend it. We were a bit disappointed about the pasta but enjoyed the other two dishes we ordered!

Btw I was a class clown love the name of this burger joint from entry to exit the hollistic about experience is engaging and stimulating. From the bright neon lights of the out door signage to the double entry passage, this 70's blue collar kitchy decor and mood lighting and just overall chill vibe had me telling myself I haven't been to a cooler burger joint than today! Drink selection is screaming "you will not be found wanting" they had sodas, juices, liquor, beer, mutha effing wine! Wine!!! I saw the little fridge with all the wines and I knew right then and there this place was special as Class Clowns customers came from all walks of life. Sitting there I noticed I wasn't the only solo missionary to satisfy our hunger. I also saw two tables of young collage aged friends, a small table with two pairs of couples, and two mature couples. I wasn't fortunate enough to witness anyone order a glass of wine wine with their meal. But none the less We all gathered in union under the class clown roof to fill our bellies. I ordered a lager pointed into a frosted mug. Pounded that early and just enjoyed water cuz DUI's aren't ever coo. By the time I was half way done with my beer the burger and fries were arrived and my eyes couldn't believe how beautiful it all looked together. the fries were barely able to fit in the bowl topped with this sweet and savory meaty meat sauce giving a sloppy Joe type vibe, for some reason I was expecting a Detroit style chili with some heat on it but that's okay cuz I'm in Calgary Canada and when in Calgary... the fries were the old skool crinkle with amazing crispy and snap even with the meat sauce it didn't get soggy. The fries despite not aligning with my anticipated flavor it was amazing and a must get side order when coming here! The dounke burger looked too sexy to mess with, from the toasted sesame bun, the melted gooey sliced American cheese, grilled sliced onions, shredded lettuce, and the main event the smashed burger but not paper thin was still able to have an amazing crispy edge and texture all the while maintaining juiciness. Close your eyes take a bite and one would feel transported to sunny Southern California but in reality its home is in Calgary spoiling and making these "calgarians" proud! The service was fast amazing and chill! The ladies made sure everyone was taken care of I can't wait to get back to Calgary and Class Clown burgers definitely will be one of my first stops!
