    The classic poutine

I had to search high and low for a pub/restaurant near my hotel with poutine on the menu. Social Beer Haus was the spot, and it was underwhelming. I was expecting a hot and gooey dish, and I got less than that. It was tasty but it wasn't hot from the kitchen, more like it had been sitting there for about 15-20 mins before I ordered. This place is spacious and the beer was cold, happy hour prices were like the poutine not hot. Music was spot on and the bartender was friendly and fun. Maybe next time I'll speak up, to get my food hot.

Social Beer Haus is new (opened a month or so ago). I thought this was a German restaurant because of the Haus at the end. Nope... It serves Texas BBQ. But not good Texas BBQ. I loved their sauces that they provided with my BBQ order. I came here with a colleague E and we got the Country Road BBQ (Family Style to share). It came with 1/4lb of each: Brisket, Pulled Pork, Pork Belly Burnt Ends and Smoked Chicken with your choice of two sides. So..... -The Brisket was super dry. -Plenty of pull pork and again it was the same as the brisket. It was very dry and not much flavor. -The pork belly burnt ends was mostly fat. It was tasty and crispy. Because it was mostly fat, it was not dry at all. -Smoked chicken was like the pull pork. Dry and tasteless. I guess that is why they give you the sauces. We got the sauces cold as if it just came out of the fridge. It added some flavor to the BBQ. The bbq by itself had no smokey flavor to it. My colleague had the green house salad as his side and I got the Whipped Potato Salad. The potato salad was very filling but it was not wow either. I did't like the texture too much. It had chunks in it. My colleague said his green house salad was good. I don't think I would come back. It was very quiet on the day we showed up. I can definitely get better Texas bbq elsewhere in Calgary. Service was good. So food is really 2 stars and 3.5 stars for service. I rounded up to 3 stars total

Stopped by to try some BBQ with my boyfriend for dinner. We ordered the Everything is Bigger in Texas platter ($74) which includes ¼ lb of brisket, pulled pork, and pork belly burnt ends in addition to 1/2 a chicken and 1/2 a rack of ribs with 2 hot link sausages. The meats also come with your choice of 3 sides (we chose whipped potato salad, mac and cheese, and corn) and well as deep fried ice cream to finish! Meats: The star of the night was definitely the brisket. It was so melty and tender! The pulled pork wasn't my favourite (I didn't really enjoy the sauce) and neither was the chicken (it was very dry, we only ended up having a few bites each). The pork belly burnt ends weren't bad (but tasted a little bit gamey? For whatever reason), and the ribs were okay too (although I prefer my ribs more fall off the bone type - though that's a personal preference!) Sides: all the sides we got were done well! They gave a generous portion as well. Great staples to have with your BBQ. Honestly, we should have invited a third person to finish everything with us, but I was so excited to try everything! This is definitely way too much food for two people. Deep Fried Ice Cream: It was my first time having deep fried ice cream and it was good! Great crunch on the exterior and creamy on the inside. A nice finish to the meal (though I could barely walk afterwards) In terms of the ambiance/atmosphere, the music was a little too loud for my liking. It was hard to hear the person that I was with and even communicating with my server was difficult because of the volume! Tip: They have 1/2 off meats by the 1/2 pound after 9pm (this includes brisket, pulled pork, and pork belly burnt ends!)

My lovely missus (the weather was just about as lovely) and I decided to hit Stephen Ave for the day and crawl a few establishments. As we wandered trying to decide where to begin, we found ourselves looking in the windows of the Social Beer Haus and their sidewalk sign had Caesars on special. I was unaware of this establishment and discovered from Yelp that it is relatively new. We were greeted and quickly seated immediately noticing that the establishment is very large - essentially two rooms. The place is very open and modern! There was not much happening, as we were in early - just after 11:00 am. As I sipped my Caesar and the Missus sipped her $5.00 sleeve of Steam Whistle, we perused the menu to which we discovered featured a full spread of smokehouse items! Meats by the half pound with upgraded sides and a variety of sandwiches and burgers. I ordered the "Boy Named Sue" burger and the Missus had the club house (it had a clever name, but I cannot recall it). While waiting for the meal, we visited with the general manager - my Missus plans her companies events, so she inquired about private bookings which are possible. The Social Beer Haus website provides info on a number of "floor plans" and menu options for private parties. The food arrived and it looked amazing! Hot and fresh - presented on what seems to be a smokehouse standard baking sheet covered in butcher paper - fine dining this place is not. The fried jalapeno, gives you a little "bitch slap" with every bite which would make the Man in Black proud. I added an ice cold pint of PBR to top off the meal. I stole a couple bites of the Missus' club sando and it was delish - especially the bacon. All in all, the food was tasty and the portioning was filling. The Missus and I were boring in choosing the standard fries for sides, but there were upgrades like mac and cheese etc for an additional charge. Some of the other reviewers were disappointed in that they were expecting Haus in the name of the establishment. I saw "Social" and Beer" and didn't even notice Haus. You could get a smoked link - that is close to bratwurst I suppose. All in, it sounds like this place is busy during the evenings. It is worth checking out!

Stopped by during a layover since it's walking distance from Calgary Tower. Food was soooo good! Loved all of it

So we stumbled into this place on opening night last night - how fortuitous! We love BBQ, and this place is smoke-focused meat eatery. Now I'm not going to comment on anything other than the food, cuz it was opening night and there are always hiccups (but we didn't have any problems). The food is decent, but with all the competition for good BBQ out there, so far I give them a solid 3 stars, but as they grow and improve I imagine they will get up to a 4. (I'll try to go back and review again in a few months and see). We shared what I imagine will be their best seller - a shareable platter of 1/4 lb each smoked chicken, pulled pork, brisket and pork belly burnt ends with two sides. I tend to judge BBQ joints on their beans, and this place needs some serious improvement on their beans. You get a huge dish that's covered with a lattice of smoked bacon, which is cool. But the beans were undercooked and the sauce was runny not thick and tasted too strongly of tamarind (?). This is one menu item that I'm guessing will improve over time. The smoked meats were great, loved the pulled chicken and pork, brisket was ok, and the burnt ends were a bit chewy but that's ok cuz purk belly can support it. My husband loved the cheddar jalapeno cornbread but I didn't - I couldn't taste either flavor and i found the cornmeal to be too gritty. So that's just a personal preference. All 4 BBQ sauces were tasty and none had that over-vinegary-ness (I'm making up words now!) that some places with homemade sauces tend to have. This place will continue to improve and grow, I'm sure. Give it a try!

Great place to watch a game. Any game. Atmosphere is great even during COVID. Menu has lots of selections. We had mac cheese, boss hogg and fried pickles. Alk super tasty. Naturally Albertans staff are great. Adriana was our server. She made the experience so much better with her great service. Thanks Social!

3.5/5 Tried social beer Haus out for lunch and got the country road plate which came with a mix of the meats and two sides. Also got the fried pickles. The country road plate was huge and a good price and I honestly think it's a good size for two to share. The pickles were good but they got more noticeably salty as they cooled. I liked the pork belly the best and I liked their house mustard sauce. I thought the brisket could be a bit more tender! The sauces felt a bit messy to use and kind of dirty - I think they could improve their bottles as they get really gunky. The sides of the meats were decent, I liked the Mac and cheese but it wasn't amazing. Overall a good place and comparable to Hayden in some ways! The place is also huge and I could see it being a big hit for flames games or other sports events!

    Special Caesar!
