    Strawberry shortcake

This place was right across from our hotel so we decided to try it. So glad we did. At first I was a little unsure with the decor, but the host was there greeting us a soon as we walked in. Our server, Amy, was amazing.!! She was so quick and knowledgeable. She helped us decide on our choices and made recommendations. We had an appy -- street corn ribs. 5 stars no notes. Order these. Yum. A 2 meat platter and 2 sides.. Brisket, excellent fresh tender fall apart. A spolumbo sausage- this has some heat to it but delicious. We did the sweet potato / regular potato mash mix - why is this not more common it was divine what a nice combo why more interesting than regular mash. And the Kentucky bourbon apples, again how unusual but so very good. We had the strawberry shortcake with lemon curd and smoked strawberry compote. It was fresh and light and delightful. Prices were reasonable, servings were generous, most important it was delicious. For a bbq place they had a few really unique items. Definitely will eat here again.

So I came here for work and I was excited as I had never been to this city but wouldn't you know it a whole blizzard came the day prior and left feet of snow behind. So this place was highly recommended and just across the block from my hotel so off we go. Entry was truly that of a bbq restaurant. No fancy chandeliers or table cloth set tables but wood and metal with lots of cool art and artifacts to decorate the place. I sat at the bar since I was alone and the bar tender was very friendly to me. She whipped up a lovely old fashion and gave me a run down on some best sellers then I just went for it and said yes I want that. The bbq ribs, smoked chicken, and brisket. An ambitious dinner for an athletic appetite and I was not ashamed because guess what, there was nothing leftover nor a need for a to go box. On the side I just had to try the bacon wrapped corn because it had bacon. The corn was buttered and seasoned and I just would love some more of this because making it at home was not the same. The meats were tender and dry rubbed. I tend to be a fan of dry rubbed and smoked meats so this was more than welcomed. What I should have tried, if they have it, was smoked wings. I can't remember if they do but my optimism says yes. The larger bathrooms are down where there seems to be a band space for hosting live music and more seating etc. As expected with the snow there was no band this day but the ambience seems pretty chill and nice to kick back with beer and barbecue to let your hair down a bit.

We ordered take out and close to our hotel. We ordered the two meats w/ two fixings ($32.00). Portion was small. Meats were dry. Flavour was just okay. The slaw was decent but the Mac salad was undercooked pasta. We also got the Caesar salad and thedressing was nice at least. Overall wouldn't come back. Toronto isn't known for BBQ and smokehouse but it has better places.

    Pulled pork poutine.

After walking by at least 10 other restaurants we went back to Palomino , it was a good decision, may be the best poutine ever, fries where still crispy and the pulled pork was a delicious part of the dish , great easy going environment and the smile of everyone makes the meal taste even better, thank you all for a great experience.

We came here because our airbnb host said it was the best restaurant in town and we are from Georgia, so to be fair we had pretty high expectations. We came in about 8:30 on a Thursday and they seemed to be closing a bit early, but they sat us and were very nice. We split a half rack of ribs, the brisket, fries, bacon-wrapped corn, bbq beans and cheese grits. Everything was good, just nothing was wow. The brisket had good flavor, but was a bit dry and not the tasty juicy brisket I love. Ribs were tasty, but pretty standard. Cheese grits were fluffy and one of the highlights to me. We got the corn because everyone seemed to like it a lot. It is good, but it is also exactly what you think it is; nothing more, nothing less. All in all A OK food with a fun, southern-y atmosphere. They also had a ton of tv's playing NBA games which was nice. Would come here to watch a sports game, but I'd like to try somewhere else in Calgary for bbq.

After four long years, I return to the domain of my ass eating pursuits and lemme tell you, the smoky glaze, the salty rim, it's still there just as I remember. I felt like a child in a candy shop again, flooded with the innocence of youth like it was my first time. Thanks, Palamino for the total trip down memory lane. I'll never forget the first time I ate ass here, and for a second helping, you did not disappoint. P.s, only four stars because I did find a hair

    Beef dip with 2 sides.

I quote, the food was "just fine", but I keep coming back for the atmosphere and music. . I enjoyed my beef dip with choice of two sides - bacon wrapped corn and garlic fries. . The jus was delish, but I wish there was more meat in my meatwich. For the price, however, I wasn't complaining. ($17.99 - with the sides). . My friends had the wings and these were no bueno this time around. The dry rub had a weird texture, so none of us enjoyed them which was unfortunate. . The server, Ray, was lovely. Would recommend. . The vibe is unique and love the live music. . The patio is nice for those summer days. . Service was friendly, but food came slow and wasn't amazing. . I will still give it another chance, because I think it may have been a one off and my meal was good. I would recommend any of the meatwiches. I'll try wings on a Wednesday again, but that wasn't the selling feature. . If you're looking for a different date spot, live music, or work drinks - I would say yes to this place. . Overall, I'll be back and give it another go. I'd still recommend it even though it was on the slow side for food. Prices were reasonable, atmosphere was great, and portions were also quite hefty, so the potential for a better meal to be is not far off.

Most of the architecture has been updated and the lobby area houses the sexy and sultry Velvet Restaurant. The main theatre is a jaw dropping thing to experience, from the catwalk you see an expansive area with rolling seats that can be set up as a classic theatre formation or can be set up against all four walls with the stage in the center. The hardwood floor is rich and dark and the brick wall is an interesting urban feel which could house really unique staging. The theatre was renovated by theatre diehard loyalists and you can tell the dedication that has been put into this venue as everything is so well taken care of. There is a killer mezzanine area, with a bar that presently has been popular for wine and scotch tasting events. The only criticism I would have is because of all the historic restoration they are not so open to hosting youth events there but it is understandable considering the fine details of the architecture. All in all the place is a superb location and akin to theatre spaces I have seen in New York City and Toronto, but it's not its grandness is all right here in Calgary.

There was an issue where it wasn't secure with someone who was not a guest on a floor and making guests feel uncomfortable. Once it was shared with hotel staff, they removed the person from the hotel, but they did not inform us so that is something that could have been improved. The restaurant by the hotel had great food and service, and it wasn't too busy during the day. It was busy for the evening rush, but I still felt the noise level was reasonable. The casino was cramped, busy and smoky for a Sunday evening. I didn't like the layout much. But they do provide free help yourself coffee in the morning. The event centre wasn't crowded, and easy to get to our seats. We had first row and I found it was quite close to the stage. I didn't have a drink, but the line ups weren't too long. There are bathrooms in the event centre, but we went in the casino as it was closer and no line up there.

The decor screams, "just relax". Hardwood floors that look like they've been there a while. The menu written on blackboards. Old battered brass instruments and trophies adorn the forest green walls. A cozy fireplace flanked by cushy chairs. A small stage with a piano, sax and guitar that anyone can play, providing that an act hasn't been booked. I've been there on three occasions. When I attended a reunion there, we ate lots of appetizers. The chicken wings had a good kick to them. The ribs were sticky but good and the rest of the stuff is standard fare. Well done, but standard to what you'd get in a pub. Big hearty servings though - bigger than what you'd get in the city. The desserts were heavenly! Dark chocolate cake...moist and rich! Fantastic lunches. The soups are freshly made and very filling. A good selection of beer, respectable selection of wine and some funky fancy coffees! Try the Raspberry Delight (at least I think that's what it was called. Or perhaps it was Raspberry Drizzle). Or, try the Turtles one. Scrumptious. Toothsome. Yummy! Staff is friendly, quick and efficient. I've yet to go when there's live music but I've noticed that they've been bringing in some good local talent and there's usually a good number of cars by Carlson's whenever I'm in the area. I have tried playing the piano. It's one of those old honky-tonk type pianos that go out of tune immediately after tuning. I wouldn't dare try the guitar or sax. They'd probably kick me out.
