I just had the exact same experience as Bob. Ted came over three weeks ago spent 15 mins vacuuming up bees pushed some pipe insulation in the gap which looks terrible and took off with $295. Our bees were 25 feet in the air in one of our owl boxes on the property. It was completely FULL. We called a professional that was supposed to care about relocating them instead he just wanted to exterminate with the fear that they were Africanized. I couldn't go through with extermination even if they were Africanized. There are over a thousand species of bees buzzing around California. If we just exterminate in fear that they are Africanized then we are going to wipe out our biggest pollinators. A few days ago when I went to close my home office window curtain, I was greeted by several dozens of bees swarming just outside and needless to say I was pretty shook. Bees are essential, I like them and wish them no harm, I'm just not to thrilled when they decided to build a hive in the eave of my townhouse. So I looked up a removal company that would relocate the bees instead of eliminating them. After a quick browse of their informative website, I was able to determine what kind of hive and then called to make an appointment. Since the bees were swarming into the eave/inside roof of my second story, I was quoted $395 for removal which I accepted. The next day Thomas arrived right on time and he is wonderfully efficient, professional, personable and knowledgeable to say the least. We discussed the bees, when I first noticed them (literally a day before) and how he would go about safely removing them - then I let him do what he does best. About an hour (probably less) and Thomas was done! He mentioned he vacuumed about 12,000 Africanized bees from the hive which will be relocated. Because there was the presence of pollen in their hive, Thomas said this was considered a fairly mature hive of about 4 months in the works. 4 months! I was stunned! I could not believe that I hadn't noticed any activity whatsoever leading up to their little coachella swarm fest right outside my window. Thomas said to consider myself lucky as others notice an infestation when honey starts to seep from their walls! He had placed a mesh and then patched up the hive entrance off from the outside world so no bees could reenter and mentioned he sprayed the area with a vinegar/soap/water solution. Apparently bees lick surfaces they land on so this vinegar/soap solution obviously doesn't taste good to bees and would eventually drive the few remaining ones off out into the world elsewhere. Thomas said to watch the area for the next two weeks for any remaining activity which he would then have to return for a further inspection but it's now day 2 bee free and so far, so good! I'm shocked to see all these negative reviews, I had a fantastic experience with the Bee Guys: They were prompt, courteous, honest and up front about the pricing, and most importantly, they took care of the bee problem. I noticed a hive of bees in our palm tree, about 25 feet up. I originally had a tech from another bee removal company (I won't name his business) at came by to look at the problem. He me over the phone that it would be in the low $100's, but once he was there he said it would be $600-$800 because he'd need to build a scaffolding structure to get to the bees. He also tried to tell me that it wasn't a hive and that it was a swarm that would go away on its own--it had been there for two weeks and I was sick of all the bees and bee carcasses in my yard. I told the first guy to take a hike and called The Bee Guys. I explained the situation to them and they assured me it would be $180 to remove the bees. They gave me an exact time to expect the techs. About 15 minutes before the appointed time, Anthony called, said he was en route and he'd be there in a few minutes. He arrived right on time. Once he was there, he assessed the situation, told me there was a hive there and that he would take care of it, for the quoted price of $180. He swiftly took care of the bees, cleaned up the yard and even cut down a few extra seed pods on the palm tree were attracting bees. Additionally, he spayed a vinegar based be repellant on the hive tree and several others nearby to keep them from coming back. Called them on a Monday morning and they arrived the same day that afternoon. After being told it would be $295.00 for treatment and removal, once at my home was told it would be $1050.00 total since it required removal of roof tiles, cutting a hole in the roof, and retrieving beehive that way. When I stated It would be less intrusive and destructive to access beehive from inside house was actually told they "don't like messing with drywall". In retrospect, it's all about coming to your house and making a sales pitch for the costliest solution. I was able to punch through the round screen covers under the eaves of our house, removed the wax nest with a clotheshanger, removed a ton of dead bees from inside the vent, and am about to place new mesh screen to keep bees out. I do believe they provide a valuable service. At $295.00, I think it's worth every penny as I can't imagine trying to tackle this kind of job on your own. Earlier this year I was attacked by what I thought were yellow jackets. This hive was in the far back of my property down an embankment. they got me about 7 times but I was able to get covered quickly before they stung me even more. My wife called the Bee Guys. Overall I they are great service company. What I have a complaint about is their lack of transparency in pricing. I have had 2 different services at extremely different pricing. I sent 2 e-mails to Lisa about a reduction in price for the second service. I have not heard anything from her. She doesn't even reply with an apology or an explanation. We had 40,000 bees build a hive in our barn owl box (it happens fast!) and I could not get a call back from other one-man-show bee removal services due to the high demand super bloom season. One of the advantages of this company is that they have multiple techs available for quicker response time. They came next day. Thomas was super friendly and did a thorough job, removing all the residual wax (apparently new swarms are attracted to left over wax). He saved a small piece of the comb for my kids and the rest of the hive was saved and taken directly to a bee farm in Temecula. I remember seeing a review here about how disappointed she was to see dead bees left over after the removal. Yes, there will be some dead bees. It's impossible to remove tens of thousands of bees without some casualties. Also bees who are out getting pollen while the hive is being removed will come back to a missing hive and likely die. Also be aware that pricing varies based on where the hive is located. A lot of these companies have google ads promoting a low price removal, but that's for the easiest type of removal. I was a bit shocked that our quote was double the advertised price, but honestly after seeing what Thomas had to do and how many times he got stung, I thought the cost was pretty fair! read more
