After seeing this place numerous times while flying by on Interstate 40 I finally decided to stop in. I'm glad I did. The staff is friendly and accommodating and the menu is quite eclectic. Vegetarian options are plenty - tofu or home made veggie patties can be substituted for any meat. They also make a very fine cup of coffee. River businesses bring in a lot of customers so it could be crowded but it's worth the wait. Now that I know how good it is this will be my spot to stop when I'm nearby. read more

Stopped in during the morning to grab some coffee and relax before rafting. Since my family and I only got coffee we ordered at the counter and the lady that look our order was very friendly. She came and explained to us that she was the only one who could work the cash register and was sorry for our coffee taking a little while. I got an iced mocha which was tasteful. I usually don't write negative comments on yelp but you kind of have to when a place is ridiculous enough to charge you for a side of honey mustard and mayonnaise. Also, they automatically add a 20% tip (we were a group of 4), even though the service isn't worth it. The fries are obviously old fries that are refried and served to the next customer, which are also complete shit. They have a sign behind the register that says "hot beer, and lousy service", the sign doesn't lie. If you go white water rafting in the area and your guide recommends this place, don't listen to the guide. They keep track of this in the restaurant and the guides are probably on some sort of point system for referring people, they're not referring out of quality. Just avoid this place! read more

We asked our rafting company for the best place in town. They referred us to The Bean Trees. We ordered turkey sandwiches and fries all around (4 people). It took just over an hour to get our food and it was very underwhelming, certainly not worth the wait. They apologized for the wait stating they were very busy. We had to ask for drink refills during the wait. Upon check out they asked if we were referred and by whom. Turns out they have incentivized local rafting outfitters to refer to their business and can't even handle the volume. Y'all are going to have to get a little more organized if you want good reviews. read more

This cafe was recommended to me after rafting so my family and I went. At first it didn't seem terrible because our waitress was very sweet, and we were in a great mood. But our food took over 45 minutes to get to us. That was surprising because we ordered two paninis, two burgers, and two grilled cheese sandwiches. I understand the burgers take longer, but when we got our food the burgers were the only hot meals out of all of them. My grilled cheese sandwich was cold, and had obviously sat out. I wish I was being dramatic. When we told our waitress about this, she apologized. She then referred us to the manager. This "manager" heard about one sentence of our complaint and began to talk back to us. She spoke to us as if we didn't know what our food tasted like, and as if we were trying to get out of paying for the meal. Her demeanor was aggressive and defensive. She did not apologize once. In fact, she tried to get us to take what we had said back. So, my advice about this place comes down to this: tip your raft guide, thank him for recommending the place, and don't eat there. read more

Their vegan chili was really tasty and their lunch was good. The fries were a bit greasy but overall it was great to find decent vegan food in this area. The waitress was really amazing and could accommodate our special requests perfectly. However, can't say the same about the barista. We ordered a large chai with coconut milk to go and we got coffee instead! Unfortunately we didn't check until we left. We don't like coffee so that was very disappointing. The barista just seemed very distracted so I was not surprised she got the order wrong. So 5 stars for the dining experience but one star for the cafe. read more

First, our server was new and he did his best to take care of us. We were a party of 9 and waited more than an hour for our food. The only people satisfied with their food were the ones who ordered the black and blue burger. The nachos were at least half lettuce and not enough chips, the knuckle sandwich was dry, the grilled cheese had fresh onions and tomatoes, rather than sauteed like the menu said and the cheese wasn't melted, the turkey panini had hardly any turkey, was over toasted and included fresh red onions although it was asked for without. The manager was good when we complained and grave us a discount. But other tables who arrived after we ordered ate and left before we got our food. read more

Came across this gem while traveling back to Atlanta from TN. We wanted a quick bite but also wanted to try a local place. It was such an awesome surprise! When we first arrived, it was a small unassuming cafe and we sat at our table close to the door. I went outside to use the restroom and found an awesome back patio with the river flowing underneath. It was such an awesome view and the food turned out to be another amazing surprise. I got the special which was a breakfast bagel with salmon, avocado and some other delicious toppings and my beau got the omelet which were both delicious! What a godsend on a long car trip with our kids! We stopped here for some lunch, hoping there might be a little space for the kids to run around a bit. As luck would have it, there was a gentle creek right below the cafe, perfect for wading and throwing rocks! Our boys spent a (noisy) half hour splashing about in the creek, then came up to the cafe for a late breakfast. The food was excellent and home cooked, and the iced coffee was outstanding. I walked into The Bean Trees with high expectations. My family and I had been white water rafting and worked up quite the appetite, and our instructor said that The Bean Trees was really good. After being seated we ordered 1 appetizer and 4 entrees. This was around 2pm. After waiting about 30 minutes we came to the conclusion that they were just busy and our food would be out shortly, this was not the case. After about one hour we noticed people who came way after us were getting their appetizers 5 minutes after ordering and we still haven't even heard anything from our waitress. After an hour and 15 minutes we finally got our appetizer. By this time what was slight hunger had turned into absolute starvation, we began to grow more annoyed and hungry with each passing minute as we waited and waited. Then after 1 hour and 25 minutes we got our food, my cheeseburger was mediocre but not bad. We were comped 15% off and my sisters grilled cheese was taken off the final check.
