One thing about me a LOVE a local coffee shop! White Moon is a terrific local spot in Sylva and every time I am in town I try to stop in. This visit I was able to spend some time there and catch up on some reading while sipping my cappuccino and eating a fantastic breakfast sandwich. What stuck out to me the most was the staff they are incredibly friendly, helpful and patient. The woman working the cash register greeted everyone that came in differently like it was a pleasure getting to meet each person. There were some people walking around bussing tables and pointing out places to sit to anyone that was looking for a spot. It was a bit busy so I did not read as long as I would have liked to but if I'm being honest I could have read there all day, I loved the vibe. Also special note of thanks to White Moon: back in late September when Hurricane Helene hit they, like many businesses, had to close but they posted their WiFi and password so people that did not have cell service or internet could connect with loved ones.... that was next level kindness! read more

I dropped by Sylva's gem of a coffee shop, White Moon, recently while driving down to Atlanta. Very friendly staff, great food and pastries, enjoyable experience overall. The cozy, deep booth seats had comfy pillows in them that you could sink into, which was quite nice after four hours of driving. All in all, if I lived closer, I'd be here all the time! It is very small and during brunch hours on the weekend, it is difficult to find a seat. They do use pottery cups and plates instead of disposables which is cool! Highly recommended. read more

Sylva NC is a true foodie town with so many different choices for breakfast, lunch, dinner and later. Last week we visited White Moon a quaint eatery that by day is known as White Moon, but is known as Dark Moon a wine bar at night. This was a nice place to sit and chat, enjoy good coffee (great Baristas) and some mouthwatering breakfast sandwiches. The service was great and or orders were completed with speed and precision. The spot to go in Sylva. I went 4 times in 3 days and am a huge fan of the coffee, lattes, breakfast pastries, egg sandwiches and my personal fav the Paulie g. I even woke up early to grab a Paulie g to go for my flight back to nyc. I'll be a regular at white moon on my next trip. I usually don't leave negative reviews but our experience at White Moon was very unpleasant. To start, our barista was literally texting someone behind the register while we were ordering. I could see clearly see her phone. I've worked in specialty coffee for 8 years and personally manage a shop and have never seen this before. It was completely unprofessional. Next, when I went to use the restroom there was a large black curtain hanging by the sink. Since the curtain was facing the wall where the bar was, I wanted to pull it back just to make sure that it didn't lead directly to the bar-- it almost felt like a dressing room where the open room is just on the other side of the curtain. I open the curtain to check and there is a 9ft terrifying halloween statue right behind the curtain that made me scream and almost shit my pants. NOT a pleasant experience. Imagine if a kid was using the restroom, having that there was just completely unnecessary and almost felt like a setup. Overall the coffee was pretty good but the service and vibes were all off. read more

THIS is the pre-mountain-adventure coffee spot you're looking for! I was surprised to find a lot of the coffee options around here don't open early. White Moon was open at 7:00, which made it the obvious choice. And I'm so thankful for that because it was quite literally the best drip coffee I've ever had. Rich and smooth and bold without that burnt aftertaste. The drip coffee was $3 no matter what size, paper cup or a mug, and they are happy for you to grab a refill. They also have a variety of breakfast options, from muffins and scones to heartier options prepared fresh in the kitchen. I opted for a house made biscuit with bacon, avocado, and a strawberry rhubarb jam (it normally comes with an egg, but I'm not a fan). It was delightful and kept me going until lunch at 2. My husband had avocado toast and an oatmilk latte and he was happy with his, too. The vibe was super chill and welcoming! Plenty of comfortable seating and surrounded by happy healthy plants. The service was super friendly and helpful. This place gave me all the happy feelings. But wait, there's more! They open back up in the evening as a cocktail bar! We couldn't help but check it out. Best executed coffee and espresso-based drinks in all of Western NC. It is honestly hard to find a good (not overly roasted) bean in this area. White Moon developed a blend with Steamline Coffee in Waynesville that is slightly fruity, but also has those familiar roasty notes you associate with a good cup o' joe . Their food menu is also thoughtful executed. Staff is always friendly. I have yet to try Dark Moon, but if they have put as much care and thought into that as they have their AM offerings, I'm sure it is stellar as well! read more
