This is my favorite place in the state of Tennessee. I've eaten here multiple times and every time it's been great! I love how everything is made from scratch with real whole foods. Their coffee selection is wonderful, I especially love the White Chocolate Mocha and their Stuffed French Toast is on point! Friendly staff, wonderful setting right by river and their beer selection is great. Well I am starving and an hour later they finally brought our food and said they would comp our waters. Oh the food was good but that is it. Natalie seemed like a very nice waitress when we first met. Little did I know that during the hour we waited for our food I would despise her more and more throughout the whole wait. Found this place by accident. Was traveling on I-40 on my way to South Carolina and wanted something convenient before getting into the mess of Asheville traffic. My child had a burger and I had a club sandwich. We both had fries which were excellent. If it had been warmer we would have sat outside. 4 words. Next to a river. What more could you ask for from a dining experience? Of course I swam in the river. Yes I saw 3 massive fish swimming upstream. They're getting smarter. The river is chilly and so refreshing as it gets steamy in this cozy town of Hartford. I did not eat here. The girl that served my iced dirty chai latte with LAVENDER was a treat and a half. I love it here and I would live in a treehouse on this river to experience what these people have right at their feet. read more

Stopped in for gas at the gas station next door. Needed some pep for a long drive ahead and decided to bounce over for some coffee. I opted for the Earl Grey latte and it was delicious! Hubby had the House-smoked salmon club. I had the Black & Bleu burger with a spicy veggie patty instead of meat. It was all delicious! No photo of the burger. I ripped it in half (no knife) and now it's not photogenic. We like this place so much we spent a couple hours trying to remember the name and where it is. We'd eaten here a couple years ago and couldn't remember. This will be a regular stop on our treks between Indian Land, SC and Minneapolis. We love the deck overlooking the river. Beware: there are a few rafting companies here, as well as 3 or so restaurants. It's a very congested area, with limited parking. As I write this, I'm hoping Phyllis the Prius hasn't been towed. Absolutely loved everything about this place! This place was recommended to our group of 13 by our rafting guide and did not disappoint. We were able to grab a seat outside along the river as soon as we got there. Our server was Chloe and she was wonderful! She had a great attitude and was very accommodating with our large, loud, and crazy group! They have a great list of beers to choose from and lots of options. Everything on the menu sounded great, but most of us went with the burgers and fries. You could tell the burger was fresh and made to order, and it was so good! The fresh cut cries were delicious and the portion sizes were large! We tried the deep fried pickles and bacon cheddar ranch fries as appetizers. Found this place after whitewater rafting. We asked the guides where to eat lunch and they said 'the bean trees", so we did. The food was good, all homemade so the service was slow, but it was to be expected and not bothersome as we weren't in a rush. My latte was fine. Our friend who works for Anheiser Busch was very impressed at the selection, and the freshness of the beer. The best part of lunch was the fried sweet potato chips, a bit greasy, but it's vacation so lay off, OK? They have a great patio in the back that overlooks the river. Sit out there if the weather is nice. I would not travel out of town (AKA Gatlinburg) just to go here, but if you're in Hartford for rafting or hiking, it's a nice place to stop in. read more

On our way from SC to MI, I happened to see a sign on the highway for The Bean Trees Cafe and it sounded like somewhere a couple of vegetarians could find something to eat. Though it was quite rich, my squeeze liked the tofu sandwhich with peanut sauce and I got the grilled cheese with pesto, tomato and onion, which arrived as described. The sweet potato fries were more like fried potato chips, and although they were a bit greasy, they were god. The atmosphere makes up for any of that though. It was gorgeous, the staff was friendly and it was a great place for a couple of weary travelers to have a beer and enjoy the great outdoors while getting some decent veg food! Hard to get on our route, we found. Everything's from scratch, so this is not a place to go if you're in a hurry. This place is just about perfect. First we went white water rafting with NOC and our guide, Sarah, recommended that we eat lunch here. Quaint, rustic restaurant with porch seating among the trees and right along the river where the rafters float by. The food was delicious and service was good. The fried-green tomatoes on my sandwich were perfect. Be ready to wait and enjoy nature, however, because it takes a long time to get your food. A down-side with being outdoors is a smoker did sit down next to us as we got our food. I was so happy to be able to visit my Tennessee Mountain home and the Bean Trees today with my husband and family for his birthday lunch. We were all wowed by the wonderful, efficient service and are still raving about how very good and well prepared the food was! They were so busy we were afraid we would have quite a wait, but that wasn't the case at all. We had a great table right on the river and our friendly server, Olivia, couldn't have done a better job. My family and I were vacationing in Gatlinburg. We came into this town for some white water rafting and our guide recommended this cafe for lunch and it did not disappoint! I had the bacon cheeseburger and the beef patty so the freshest hamburger I have ever had! The party's are hand made and freshly made right then and there. No freezers! By far the best cheeseburger I have ever had. You have to try their cheeseburgers and the fancy frys!! I also had the blueberry cupcake. Extremely good! Made in house, very moist and fresh blueberry jam. The atmosphere there is great for families and dates. Very very nice staff, down to earth and have that southern charm. Which is what we were looking for. They have a great outdoor space that looks right over the river. Very very relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. The service itself was great. No wait time and our server was very personal. They also brew their own beer and coffee there. The coffee was soooo fresh and good. Highly recommend 10/10 read more

Amazing homemade veggie burger with a view! As a side with a small up charge you can get quinoa salad. What a nice change from the usual burger sides of fries or chips. So yummy. We sat outside and watched all the rafters finish their trip down the river. It was a beautiful day with a nice breeze. The bean trees cafe was the prerfect stop on our road trip. My husband got the burger with fried egg and bacon. What a treat!! For a side he selected chips and salsa. They also offered hummus and chips. Tough decision!!! On the way out we grabbed a homemade chocolate chip cookie for the road. Great prices, great food, and great service. Win win win read more

This place is awesome. So relaxing on the deck alongside the river. Pulled pork was awesome. Hamburger was moist and juicy. The best were the handcut fries and the sweet potato chips. Don't know if this is true but, one of the reviews said they add an automatic tip of 18%. Read that after my review so, if that is the case the 18% was added to our bill and we left her 5.00. They had their own spices they put on them which were excellent. Pretty busy as they are nestled between whitewater rafting places. Turn around and drive somewhere else. We chose to come eat here initially because of some of the riverside dining pictures that were posted on Yelp. This is the only positive thing I have to say about this place +1 star. We were greeted once we walked in and asked to wait, that this point it was later in the evening and they were not that busy but we waited patiently for over 5 minutes until another server told us we could just find a seat anywhere -1 star. After we gone and sat ourselves we had to wait an addition 10 minutes for the servers to stop talking amongst themselves and come take our order -1 star. The waitress apologized for the wait but you could tell she didn't want to be there and was not attentive after taking our order. Once we had gotten our food it had gotten dark outside and we were informed that there was no lighting outside even though they continued to allow people to sit out there which made for a very messy meal -1 star. When we were finished with our overly greasy food we went inside to pay at which point we were charged automatically 18% tip for our party of 4. I understand that these people need to make a living but tips are to be earned based on service and I always make it a point to tip 20% or more if the server was at least trying, from the level of service that we received during this meal I would not have tipped more than 10% -1 star. Nice atmosphere but disappointing food. Stopped in on a road trip and picked up sandwiches that I opened an hour later, and would have returned them were we less than an hour away. Grilled cheeses, for $9, were seemingly 2 pieces of Sunbeam with a slice of American. Had I paid $3 I would have not felt I got the better end of the deal. This is precisely how I made a grilled cheese when I was 8, before I knew better. The chicken sandwich wasn't much better. My family and I went ziplining nearby, after checking in we still had time to kill before our tour, one of the tour guides recommended this cafe for lunch. We sat outside on the back patio overlooking the river. The staff was friendly, but the service was very slow. It was a 15 minute wait before we were able to order and another 40 minutes for the burgers to arrive. The burgers arrived nice and hot. I had the avocado burger with potato salad, both were good.
