Visited this place after reading it had a lot of gluten free options. First impression, out of a lot of things; from sauces in the kitchen to ingredients for the coffees. Also wouldn't brew some simple coffee. The register service was slow with only one employee to run register and make drinks. Food came rather quickly and was tasty. Our gluten free app said the business offered more GF stuff than it did (I.e. GF breakfast tacos). read more

This food was sooooo good! My hubby had the shrimp and grits. I didn't get a bite but he assured me to was wonderful. I had a bacon egg and cheese on Texas toast. The bacon was deliciously Smokey and those potatoes.....just perfect! read more

I'm SHOCKED that Simpl Cafe is not ranked higher on Yelp! Don't let this little "off the beaten path" restaurant fool you. Three of us had the best shrimp & grits we've ever eaten. My son had the steak & egg toast which was also incredible, BUT after sampling the shrimp & grits he said he would get it the next time we visited. His girlfriend is a celiac and had the gluten-free lemon loaf, which was better than any "regular" lemon loaf I've ever had. The outdoor dining along the Pigeon River was a welcome & quaint brunch setting after a long drive from Savannah heading home to Ohio. It is well worth the added few minutes off I-40. My sister-in-law has a cabin @ 45 minutes away in Pigeon Forge and we all said that it would be worth the drive to come back to get the shrimp & grits the next time we visited the cabin! read more

This place is great!! The food was amazing! I had the shrimp and grits and they were the best in the world! My husband had the breakfast with French toast, he loved it, especially the bacon! The staff was fantastic we met the owner and he was so kind and friendly. The restaurant is small but has a great little farmhouse vibe to it. We will be back. We were looking for a brunch restaurant and went based on reviews. Disappointed with service. Only one person working the counter to take food orders, phone orders and coffee. Needless to say I did not receive my cappuccino until after brunch. My omelet arrived hot; however, husband breakfast was cold. He ordered the breakfast plate with eggs over medium. Excellent Choice! Short drive off I-40. Passing through at lunchtime on a Friday. Welcoming , Friendly & Super Efficient staff offered suggestions on their fav's. And they were not wrong. The Aioli on the Double Bacon BLT is next level. The House Burger was juicy & spot on. Clean, Inviting & Cozy! We ate on the porch , taking in the view of the Pigeon River, although a warm day a slight breeze was present after a rain shower. Give it a try. No Regrets. read more

Ample al fresco dining on the front porch, back porch, and soon on the spacious riverside deck! I can't think of a better place to enjoy breakfast or lunch in Newport. The food was wonderful! I had the hipster burger with fried brussels sprouts on it! I had no idea how good that would be! Hubs had the steak sandwich and really enjoyed it. This is a restaurant that had just opened before the hurricane and rebuilt on their own. Go show them some love! You won't regret it! read more

Five of us from out of town had breakfast here today . Avacado toast, breakfast burrito, bacon omelette and other items. Great food and delicious coffee drinks. The service was excellent. We didn't wait long for our food and the server checked on us several times. The location is so pretty along the river. It's a little tricky to find but worth the drive. read more

I want to give this place a better review. When this place opened we went and loved it. I even began recommending it to extensive family and friends traveling here to visit us. Several months ago, I went and had brunch with my kids there and the place was busy so I did not blame them for my cold food as much. Today I went and the restaurant was empty, I understand we are in trying times and the economy is a hot topic but!!! I spent $50 for two burritos and two drinks. And to say that the burritos were underwhelming is to give it my best review. If I could offer them advice I would say: the burritos price needs to be lower. Look at your competitors pricing on a burrito and they are cheaper and offer more on the plate. I get this is a cafe with finer ingredients but even that is lacking as I see today. You can't charge the way you do in my opinion and not offer something from atmosphere (the restaurant was uneasily quiet no music, had a cold feeling no warmth to it on a cold winter morning), coffee is not that great (not hot enough and did not have the flavors I like) and you get so little food for what you order ( add something chips or hash browns ). l am sad because we need more support for local businesses but I do not see this place staying open for long if it continues along this path. Other coffee cafes in the area are doing so much better but for the reasons this place is lacking. This place needs to adjust the way they move forward because if this place is going to be about food then do it well. The online pictures are just that, online pictures on their social media page. I do not feel like that translates into reality when you visit. Try it but you are warned. read more

We are so glad that this place is open once again. We were there yesterday after checking online for The last few months since Hurricane Helene to see if they had reopened. The staff is absolutely wonderful and there are some very nice changes to the menu. They still have their delicious shrimp and grits as well as other wonderful breakfast selections. But this time, I tried the new pork belly and grits which was out of this world. Coffee is good and I had them make me a special Mexican Coffee (mocha with cayenne pepper). Had the pleasure of stopping for brunch here today for the 1st time. Food was absolutely fantastic!! Had the salmon tacos, you won't regret it that's for sure!! Coffee was amazing too, added lavender vanilla to mine and was delighted!!! Highly recommend this gem in Newport. Wonderful staff, friendly and courteous. Excellent. I was visiting from out of town and my friend brought me here. It was her first time also. Had the shrimp tacos which were very tasty along with the freshly made corn chips and guacamole. Both were outstanding. The restaurant is extremely clean as well as the bathroom. There was seating outside overlooking the river however we chose to sit inside. Prices were very reasonable and the staff was super friendly. The owner/chef stopped to chat with us and gave us his background as a professionally trained chef. Sadly it was my last day visiting so I can't return this trip but I'll definitely be back during my next visit!! Definitely give it a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

Had breakfast and coffee here this morning. My new favorite place between Knoxville and Asheville! First off, forget what you think you know about Newport TN. This cafe is on the banks of the scenic Pigeon River. My wife and I sat at a picnic table in back with a fantastic view of a small meadow and beautiful river, watching large trout play among the rocks. The service was friendly and prompt, and the food is something we'd typically have to travel an hour to match the quality of. I had a breakfast burrito, made with farm fresh eggs, crisp potatoes and vibrantly flavored salsa. My wife had a sandwich she allowed me one bite of that was delicious and thick with scrambled egg and pesto. The coffee was great - the whole experience was lovely from start to finish. The cafe sits very close to the start on the Newport Greenway, so post feast we digested with a walk along the river. read more

We enjoyed wonderful coffee and breakfast at Simpl Cafe. Our view of the river was lovely while we enjoyed our food. I had the breakfast salad and a chai coffee with splash of lavender vanilla. So decadent. Raejah was so sweet and attentive to our needs and we also enjoyed talking to Kendale, the owner and chef. This is a favorite place now. read more
