Steak Chilaquiles and Lemon Ricotta Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes
    Samantha L.

Stopped in after doing a long hike and got seated right away for breakfast. The chilaquiles were so delicious and we shared the lemon Ricotta blueberry pancakes, yum! Just wish they had a stronger Lemon flavor. (Oh and FYI they don't have their own restrooms) Will definitely come back if we are in the area again.

Had such an amazing experience at The Beachcomber Café! I can't believe this place was hiding in plain sight all this time--I'm always driving along PCH toward Laguna Beach and Shaw's Cove and never realized this gem was here. We made reservations and were seated right away, which I really appreciated. The location is unbeatable--literally right on the sand. The vibe is super chill and beachy, but the food feels elevated, almost like a white-tablecloth restaurant. I loved that contrast--sand on the floor, ocean views, but beautifully plated, high-quality dishes. I ordered the Grilled Skirt Steak Sandwich, and wow... it was incredible. The fries were perfectly crispy and crunchy. My brother got the Fresh Salmon Plate, and my sister-in-law had a Spaghetti Squash dish, and both were just as delicious. Everything came out looking amazing and tasting even better. We also ordered the bread and butter--so simple but SO good, warm, crunchy, and totally worth it. And the drink? I had the Strawberry Sunset Martini, and it was absolutely perfect--refreshing and super tasty. The service was wonderful from start to finish, and the whole experience just felt effortless and enjoyable. Definitely a hidden gem I'll be coming back to again and again!

We ate lunch here on a Thursday. We tried to visit on Saturday when we rolled in but they only allow parking across the highway and shuttle you to the restaurant and we didn't have patience for all that so we decided to change plans. We made reservations online through Open Table and we were lucky enough to have Hector as our server. We started with the Ahi Tiny Tacos which were yummy although I would have preferred the ahi to be a little colder. My husband ordered the Spring Salad and enjoyed it immensely. My friend ordered the Mahi Mahi Tacos and as shown in the picture there was a very large portion of coleslaw and 2 huge pieces of fish. She was very happy with her selection. I ordered the Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi over mashed potatoes with broccolini and I loved every bite. We ended with a huge slice of Pineapple Cake that we shared, no picture because we devoured it immediately after it was served. We liked the ambiance on the front porch and highly recommend the food and of course, Hector. We will definitely visit again when we are in town.

After walking 3 miles we were seated in the Front with a clear view of the Waves and the Surf. It was a beautiful day with blue skies and whales spouting on the horizon. Service was great thanks to our Friendly Server Ambiance was excellent * We Were At The Beach She had the Beach Burger and a Salad I had 2 Mahi Mahi Tacos (Yum) with Cole Slaw The Food Quality and Taste was Better than we remembered it from the last time we dined there.

Glad we booked a reservation at sunset for this fun, charming café on the beach. The outdoor covered patio was perfect to watch an amazing sunset. The service was very good and the drinks and food were good, too. Parking is across the street but there's a shuttle you can take or it's only a 10-15 walk. Spend the afternoon exploring Crystal Cove trails and the beach and it's a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a brief respite in Newport Beach!!

The Beachcomber Cafe is quite the beachside dinner experience. It's a find in Newport Beach with incredible sunsets, vacation-style cocktails and solid food. I had a delicious Manhattan variation made with Blood Orange liqueur and Orange bitters. It was a fun spin since I wasn't in the mood for a typical Mai Tai or Bahama Breeze. When you find it, there is a moderate parking nuance where you park off the highway. You will need to take a short shuttle or walk down to the beach where the restaurant is. It's a fun walk so no worries there. Thanks to my good friend for the recommendation because the whole experience was perfect, especially the sunset When you're in Newport Beach you have to go check out this incredible spot. Great place to unwind after a 3-mile morning hike. This place is located right on the sand. There is seating inside and outside on the deck (has great view of the beach). We didn't have reservation, but was seated after a 15-20 minutes wait. Our server was friendly. Our food came out quickly, which was perfect since we were all hungry. Everything was delicious and the portions were generous (we had leftovers). I really like the Beignets. They were fresh and just melts in your mouth yummy. I'll have to come back to try the other dishes.

Had a great breakfast here on a Thursday and a great lunch on Saturday. Saturday lunch, after sitting on the deck with drinks, comprised of a tuna melt with tomato/basil soup, and a shrimp salad. Excellent!

Good vibes with a great view. This is not a place I frequent often, but a good beach front spot to bring friends from out of town. Some notable menu items, were the steak chilaquiles and the avocado toast. We also started with the beignets for the table which was plenty to share a very tasty!

Worth the hike to see the sunrise with my adult kids and walk by the beach to have a wonderful breakfast with a great view and ambiance! Oh must try their Beignet, a french donut.... just melts in your mouth! Service was so so but it can be improved-- it was just packed with people that I understand the waiters were a bit overwhelmed but also because we came at Valentine's day so is all good .

Lively restaurant with a really nice ocean view. Even though it was very busy, the wait wasn't long at all. Good food, beautiful view, and a fun vibe.

Not my first time here nor my last (for those who know La Bamba). Great service and drinks. The watermelon mojito is great and so is the Beach Comber. The Jar Bloody Mary is a bit much for me but worth a try if you never had it. The beignets were damn good. So good I didn't get a chance to take a photograph of them. Outdoor beach with a cool breeze makes for a perfect setting. Service was outstanding.

Been wanting to eat here for a while and finally made a reservation. Came by with a friend for lunch on a Friday afternoon. We went and had a drink at the bar before we got our table. The atmosphere is great. You're right on the beach. The drinks were good. I had a salad that was delicious. But.. I wouldn't order the calamari again. It's was mostly the kind with the tentacles. Not a fan! And sadly, our server was a complete robot. No personality. No eye contact. Very short with us. I'm sure she was just having a bad day but you gotta fake it in the service industry! A good friendly server really makes the experience that much better. I'll try again another time.

The view of course is always a standout

The Beachcomber Cafe Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - The Beachcomber Cafe

    Are small dogs allowed?

Very unlikely as they don't allow dogs on the beach.

Are you allowed to stay after dinning at the beach for picnic and games?

The State Park is open to the public from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. everyday

Do I have to do reservations or can I just walk in for lunch?

You can make a reservation, but there may still be a wait. If it's not a national holiday or special occasion, you can just show up, it's not a long wait. Plus, you can always sit and eat at the bar!

How's the parking and is there a fee?

You need to park on the East side of PCH in the designated parking lot. Then ride the shuttle bus to the restaurant. However if by chance you have a Handicap parking placard, then you can park on the West side of PCH in that designated lot. No… Read more

    Is breakfast served all day?

No. There are separate breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. You can see them on their website

If the weather is overcast and cooler are the heaters enough to stay warm? Is there any inside seating?

You may just need to layer, there is a short walk from the parking shuttle to the restaurant. Inside you'll be warm, if you're seated on the enclosed patio they offer lap blankets.

How long does it take to walk from public parking lot to the beachcomber?

It's a lot faster going down to Beachcomber Cafe ,than leaving . It's downhill. Maybe 5 minutes probably less. Add a few minutes for going back up to the parking lot

    Is there handicapped parking?

Yes, there are four spots behind the restaurant.

Is the macadamia crusted steak cauliflower vegan or is it steak and cauliflower?

Steak Califlower is generally a cut of califlower that looks like a steak, so it is vegan.

    Are there Vegetarian options?

The kitchen can accommodate a vegetarian meal.

Hi, is it possible to have a fully service not inside the restaurant but at the beach in front of it?

At certain times of year they have tables available a little further north of the restaurant. It's a great place to sit. It's worth the ask!

Will an Uber be able to pick you up down below, or would we get dropped off in the upper lot and take the shuttle? When does the last shuttle pick up? (we have an 830p dinner res)

The Uber drop offs are located at the Kiosk at the entrance from Los Trancos

    Do they have valet?

No. You have to park at the public lot on the other side of PCH and either walk or take a shuttle.

Do people really dress up here for Valentine's day?

Yes, it will definitely be too formal and very uncomfortable since you will be climbing through some dirt road to get to this restaurant. The best way to get there is to take the trolley across the street $2.00 per person, children $1.00

Are you open on thanksgiving day?

Yes but check their hours. I believe they closr at 9pm.

Are you open New Year's Day?

Yes, but I would make reservations now. You can make reservations on line or call 949-376-6900

Can you make reservations on the weekend? I am having difficulty finding a single reservation for the next month on a weekend.

Try looking on the Open Table app. It is a busy place but they do take walk ins if you want to wait at least an hour for a table.

    Are they allow walk-in?

Yes, of course they do but you may find a line. The nice part is you are right on the beach. So have a great walk in the sand, it's gorgeous there.

    When is dinner served?

You can order dinner anytime. Just enjoy!

What is the address of the parking location that offers validation with your meal? Also, is there a different parking location for handicap parking that also offers validation?

The restaurant itself will validate. You give your parking stub to them and they will validate it, then when you exit you put the stub in the reader. Yes, there are handicapped parking spaces, but you still need to go a ways. You may need to take… Read more

The chicken and waffles were mid overall. The waffles were bland, although the chicken was decent. The blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes were also just okay. The syrup tasted a little off and the lemon flavor was way too overpowering. I prefer just a hint of lemon, but these were definitely very lemon-forward. The passion fruit drop cocktail was probably my favorite thing we ordered. Sweet but still strong... my favorite! Also really enjoyed the butter and the fresh strawberry jam. To put it simply: this is the kind of place Laguna has been missing. From the moment we walked in, the energy felt dialed-in in a way that immediately reminded me of a Hillstone experience -- polished but not pretentious, lively but still intimate. That balance is incredibly hard to execute, and Nix nails it. For context, I'm part owner of 230 Forest Avenue, so I don't say this lightly: Nix easily lands in my top five in Laguna Beach. We started with Aperol spritzes (perfectly balanced, not overly sweet), along with a couple of appetizers -- including a fried asparagus dish that was addictive in the best way. Crisp, flavorful, and gone way too quickly. For mains, I ordered the veggie burger, which was genuinely one of the best I've had -- hearty, well-seasoned, and thoughtfully constructed (not an afterthought, which vegetarian options so often are). My boyfriend had the noodle salad, which was fresh, vibrant, and layered with flavor. But beyond the food, what really stood out was the overall experience. The atmosphere feels intentional , great music, beautiful crowd, and a buzz that makes you want to linger. It's the kind of place where dinner effortlessly turns into drinks, and drinks turn into "should we just stay a little longer?" Laguna Beach doesn't have a ton of restaurants that hit this level across the board -- food, service, ambiance, and energy, but Nix absolutely does. We'll be back, and soon.
