His explanation went beyond the typical "I'm doing this to add texture." He actually used cosmetological terms and explained what they meant. On top of that, he's a warm and personable guy who makes sitting in a chair for 45 minutes a pleasure. As a former Oberlin College student who's about to move away, I'm quite sad that I'm only now discovering this place. I highly recommend it!

I highly recommend her because she is young and sassy and we had a hilarious conversation while she was doing my hair. She put in highlights with foil and it looked fabulous afterwards. It looked totally natural, not big zebra stripes (although I am sure that she could do that, too, if you prefer that kind) and there was no color bleeding at the base of the foils because she has great technique and knows what she's doing! Velvet Turtle also gets a nice mix of folks--some profs, some students (it is very close to a college campus) college support staff, some senior citizens from Kendall, cool hipsters, kids, parents--all kinds of clients. Every time I have gone there, there has been good atmosphere with nice conversation. You can tell that all the stylists care about their clients.

I asked for a ball fade and just a trim on top to keep the length. What I received is terrible. The "fade" performed does not even qualify as such. There is no blend. A hard line. Patches of hair far longer than others. I have a job that requires me to look professional and well kempt at all times. I can not show my face at my job looking like a child who attempted to cut his own hair. So I am going to find a better place to go and get my hair cut and have them attempt fix this mess and am going to have to PAY even more for it. What makes this even more infuriating is the fact that I have had my hair cut by Elain before a number of times and she has never done this before. I had to ask her to try and fix my head three separate times before giving up. She was clearly trying to rush the job. Why should I have to ask for a blend when I requested a fade? A fade is the blending of hair! Safe to say I will not be returning to Great Clips in the near future at all. I still tipped well, and consider that my farewell.
