We recently hosted a private celebration for my parents' 65th wedding anniversary at The Blackwall Barn & Lodge, Rotunda location and I cannot recommend them enough. From the very beginning of the planning process, Simon Brown was absolutely phenomenal. He went above and beyond to ensure the celebration was flawless. Simon helped me coordinate a perfect private dining space that felt both incredibly intimate and welcoming for our family. He was attentive to every detail--we selected the Sunday Brunch, which was phenomenal. The ambiance of the Lodge was stunning, and the food was completely delicious. The Spicy Italian Pizza & Burrata with Blistered Tomatoes were a hit! The Baltimore location is a newer restaurant so service was a little slow but the staff was friendly. The aesthetics inside are beautiful. High ceilings with thoughtful decor and seating arrangements. Would be a good place for a date night. read more

I loved this place! Bri was an amazing server and Laura was a lovely hostess. My party of four sat in their outdoor lounge area. It was very pretty and comfortable. I forgot to take pictures, so sad. I had three mocktails, lobster bites, cherry pepper hot wings and lamb shank. EVERYTHING was well prepared and so fresh. Didn't feel heavy after the meal. The restaurant itself is really lovely, with a beautiful interior that creates a great atmosphere. We visited on an afternoon before a holiday weekend. It was busy but not overwhelmingly packed, which made the experience even more surprising. I'm not sure if they were understaffed, but the service was some of the worst I've experienced in a long time. It wasn't just our table either, I noticed several other tables repeatedly trying to flag down their servers. Our food took an exceptionally long time to arrive, and the pacing was off. Our appetizer came out, and then our entrées followed just a couple of minutes later, making the appetizer feel like an afterthought. As for the food, everything was just okay, but nothing really stood out. The mahi blackened tacos had potential, but the tortillas were a little stale, which took away from the dish. Overall, the beautiful space wasn't enough to make up for the disappointing service and underwhelming food. Whew !! What an amazing restaurant!! I visited this place for the 1st time on Father's Day w a group of 12. It was so easy to locate, free parking, kind staff, and a spacious restaurant. We were seated in the back dining room. the decor was so pretty !! We happened to be in the same room as the Brunch Buffet so that surely worked for us. We were greeted by our table person Jose who was pretty amazing. He was so attentive, professional, consistent and kind. The food was soooo fresh and good! We really enjoyed dinner here last night. The service was attentive and friendly. The space is large and dramatic, in a very upscale barn kind of way, with a lot of oversized chandeliers and art, and the main dining room has several booths that are basically couches, which is also nice. It is also completely accessible for people who can't do stairs, which was very helpful for one member of our party. The food was very good. We got the flaming crab dip to start, which was good crab dip, but a little underwhelming. Basically, the waiter uses a kitchen torch to light a layer of brandy, which is on top of the cheese, on fire and then serves it to you once the flame has died out. I can't say it really added anything to the experience, but the waiter was very excited about it. The fried green tomatoes were excellent. They were topped with a tangy and spicy cherry pepper relish and were just delightful. The seared tuna salad and snakebite pasta were quite good, but the star meal was the chicken pot pie. I've never seen a meal disappear so fast. A few things to consider: 1) Happy hour is only at the bar and on the patio. 2) It is almost impossible to get a human being on the phone. Instead you will speak to an AI robot who may or may not be able to answer your questions. 3) Parking in the Rotunda is kind of a nightmare. Be prepared to use the parking garage. 4) Most of the fish is farmed. 5) The back corner tables near the wine room are directly on top of the a/c unit, and it shakes the floor periodically. read more

This is my most favorite restaurant chain in Maryland so I was pleasantly surprised to see that a new location had opened up when my cousin and I visited this weekend. Cydney was an amazing waitress whose recommendation for the special of the day was nothing short of amazing! The fried flounder and grits were superb and the chocolate cafe was even better. Definently a great place to dine. Arrived here and the staff was awesome. From the time we entered we felt welcomed. We were given an option as far as seating. We chose outdoor but, it was closed in and windows open. It was a beautiful day out. We were seated as soon as we arrived. I chose a cybernetic sauvignon as my drink. Crab dip as an appetizer and a seafood pasta as my meal. Complimentary biscuits were served and they were delicious. This was a very comfortable place to dine. The food was pretty tasty. Me personally would have enjoyed a side of old bay to add to my food but, I didn't request any. Totally my fault. I would definitely like to come back and try the brunch that they offer. This restaurant was absolutely stunning. One of the prettiest ones in the area for sure. Service and staff was so nice. On the other hand, the food was the only restaurant we have ever been too that every single dish was not good. The liquor on top of the crab dip made the whole dish bitter, and on top of that it was $25 for maybe a 5 oz serving with the store bought pita chips. The snake bite pasta was so bland. Every different thing on the plate tasted the same as well. I hate criticizing this place like this because i can tell the heart is in it but the food was so deterring. Also our bill was over $350 for two appetizers, a small pizza, a kale salad, and two " half off " pastas for a weekly deal. So I want to give this a better review but 24hrs later I need to be honest. I'll start with the Crab dip the Only issue with this is how the plate was presented it was great. Risotto flavor perfect Seafood perfect. Risotto work in progress the season was good but the pasta should have been cooked longer so some of the Risotto was undercooked. Now the Market price steak was fantastic cooked perfectly but then it was served with soggy fries and when the cost is market price everything should be perfect. Lastly our server things started well but half way through our meal the pace of the restaurant picked up and the server ignored us and focused on a larger table by the fireplace. All in all this place is worth a visit and we plan to go back but not on a Saturday night until the staff and Kitchen are better prepared to deal with a Saturday rush. read more

The new Barn and Lodge at the Rotunda has only been open about a month. But it is a fabulous restaurant. The decor and service are impeccable. As you can see from the pictures it has great interior design. Everywhere that you look is pleasing to the eye. The food was good as should be expected from such a classy place. The serving sizes are fat boy happy or have good lunch tomorrow. The only drawback was the green beans. Parking is at a premium because of Rotunda. So get there early or circle until you find a spot. It is just across the parking lot from the Warehouse cinema. So dinner and a movie is a plan. To start off their version of Brussels Sprouts had a honey mustard glaze and was well cooked. The biscuits are made from scratch. And yes they are better than your grandma and that red crustacean place. Even the iced tea was superb. Including fresh blueberries and lemon. You could make a meal and die happy off of the tea and biscuits alone. The braised short rib came with green beans and mashed potatoes. But it was very good. Snakebite is a Cajun creamy jambalaya pasta dish I was both spicy and creamy. The chicken, breast, large shrimp and spicy andouille sausage were well seasoned. Shrimp is tail on. The whole dish was very good. The pasta was freshly made that morning in house with those fantastic biscuits. You have been warned though it is spicy. They have a buffet brunch on Sunday. So I am planning a return soon. You will be happy that you went there. The bar has tvs. Maybe I can talk them into making some wings ro watch a game. read more

As longtime fans of the Gambrills location, we were excited to try the new Barn Lodge at the Rotunda. Unfortunately, our experience has been disappointing on both visits. The restaurant and bathrooms were noticeably dirty, the bar appeared not to have been properly cleaned, and the menus were sticky. Service was slow and inattentive, and several food items were either poorly prepared or simply not enjoyable. Given how consistently excellent the Gambrills location has been, the difference in quality was surprising. What is especially frustrating is seeing so many glowing reviews (were these reviews purchased?) that don't reflect our experience. Based on our two visits, the high ratings feel completely disconnected from what we encountered. We gave the restaurant a second chance because we genuinely wanted it to succeed in Baltimore, but after two disappointing visits, we won't be returning. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and works to bring this location up to the standards that have made the Gambrills restaurant so successful. read more

I went for lunch and had a great time. I had been waiting for this place to finally open! The decor is beautiful, a great blend of urban and rustic. Very spacious. We sat at the bar and Alicia was our bartender. So nice and helpful, and makes some good drinks! Espresso Martini approved! We ordered the fried lobster tail appetizer. It came with an aïoli and ketchup. Very good! I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken and was surprised to see the chicken come out green from being cooked with pesto. The Caesar salad has pumpkin seeds and granola. I was kind of skeptical but it was actually really really good! I ate the whole thing lol. We also got the short rib sandwich, which came with fries. No complaints! Good taste and good portions. We were full as had some sandwich left over lol. Oh! We also ordered a side of Brussel sprouts, specifically the side portion not the appetizer portion. The appetizer gives you ALOT of Brussel sprouts. The side portion was a perfect addition to share with our meals. This well definitely be a new go to spot for me! read more

I visited in late April. The restaurant had only been open for around a month and it was clear they were still working out kinks in the kitchen. First, I will start by saying the ambiance is great! It's a very well-designed and well-decorated space. The one piece of feedback I'd give - and I can't believe I'm saying this considering this is often an issue in other restaurants - is that the lighting was a tad too bright considering the vibe of the decor. I think they could stand to dim the lights just a bit. Service was decent. Our server was pleasant, but could be a little hard to track down at times. The restaurant was not busy, and it just felt like too much time was passing between when she would check in on us. Overall, the the food was decent (once they got it right). I ordered the Snake Bite pasta which was really tasty, but the pasta was undercooked. Like, really undercooked. My wife ordered the Shrimp Scampi and had the same issued with her pasta. We notified the server and she worked with the kitchen to have the dishes remade. The second time around was perfect for the Snake Bite, but my wife's Scampi had too much lemon zest/juice. The lemon was a bit overpowering. One of my children ordered his burger medium well and it was really pink in the center - it might have been just at the point of medium. I'd definitely go back just to see if some of the bumps get smoothed out. I'll like check out during happy hour. read more

We walked in about 12:45pm and the Hostess, Caroline was on the phone but she smiled and waved to acknowledge us. She was very pleasant and helpful. The space was huge with a few people there. The server, Sez (not sure of the spelling) was friendly but slow. We ordered coffee and tea. He brought the drinks but no cream, sugar, or spoons. My nephew requested a drink but Sez wasn't sure about it. My nephew went to the bar and the bartender, who was very friendly and efficient said no problem and quickly made it. The burger was amazing. A good size for the price. The fries were really good but way too much. They must've provided a pound of potatoes. Beyond my money's worth. The manager never came to ask about the food and service but Caroline did. She came around the room asking the diners if everything was OK. I would rather drive to Columbia (40 minutes) than patronize the Rotunda location (15 minutes) because of the slow service. read more

Our waiter approached very enthusiastically introduced himself but then quickly said he was mistaken and would not be our waiter. Five minutes later he said he was going to be our waiter. My mango lasso mocktail was pretty, but tasted terrible. Was supposed to be mango+ a few other things including ginger beer. It was mango water, watered down. I asked the waiter if I could get a little ginger beer. He said he'd check on it, came back 2 minutes later to tell me that they are out of ginger beer and that he'd take it off my check (spoiler: did not). My husband loved his crab soup and lamb shanks. My fried lobster app was good. My today's farm special: filet tips risotto was bad, risotto undercooked, maybe 2.5 ounces of overcooked (well done) filet mignon. Bland gravy. I am sad that dinner sucked. Dessert was delicious- i actually loved the apple bread pudding with cinnamon ice cream and caramel sauce. So yummy read more

This evening, my friend Lisa and I had the pleasure of dining at The Barn Lodge at The Rotunda, and it proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish. We began with a pair of thoughtfully crafted bourbon-based cocktails, followed by a classic Caesar salad to share well balanced and elegantly prepared. For our entrées, I selected the ribeye sandwich, which was rich, flavorful, and perfectly executed, while Lisa opted for the chicken pot pie, a comforting yet refined take on a timeless favorite. Each dish was prepared with care and delivered with consistency, making for a seamless dining experience. We were fortunate to enjoy seating at one of the high-top tables adjacent to the bar, which offered a lively yet comfortable vantage point. One friendly recommendation: the two-person booths located in the center of the dining room, while beautifully designed, are positioned quite closely together, which may limit the sense of privacy for couples. Introducing a subtle glass partition between those booths could preserve the open aesthetic while providing a more intimate dining experience. All in all, an inviting atmosphere paired with well-executed cuisine made for a memorable evening. And if you're lucky to have Roni as your server, you will no doubtfully be in good hands... I understand that they had just opened, but the service was terrible. Not sure if it was an understaffing issue or working out the kinks of opening a new restaurant. Our waitress was training another woman who wreaked of "weed!" Not sure how anyone working there could not smell it or it is just okay to smell like that. Since I really don't care for the smell it was a huge turnoff. The food was good, served at the appropriate temperature. A band (2 person ensemble) came while we were eating, but unfortunately it was a little louder than expected, and at that point the 4 of us had a hard time having a conversation. read more

The positives-Food was good. Service was great. The negative- arrived for an early dinner without reservation. We were told we could sit at the bar because all tables were reserved. No issue with that except we were there for 1.5-2 hours and the dinning room was only 1/4 full the whole time. Pretty slow night. The main room is so loud that you can't hear your server or guest. I am not sure how long this spot has been open but I think it is fairly new. I've been to Gambrills and their location in the Old Smashing Grapes. Today was not really good for the $200 price tag for two buffet meals and 2 orange crushes. I hope to try them again just for dinner. We all know the money grab to get all the large parties fed for Mother's Day, however they were not prepared. The food was cold! Pork loin, grits and potatoes.......They were constantly running out of plates. Patrons were waiting for basic dishes such as shrimp and grits! How do you run low on the grits at best? How do you run out of prime rib? How do you run out of fresh waffles? I also had an issue with one of the bartenders who clearly had bad allergies blowing her nose at the end of the bar on multiple occasions and never washing her hands either time and grabbing straight for the glasses. The bar also had a lot going on at the end and I probably was oddly seated as I caught it all. I wasn't used to seeing mimosa's and Bellini's from a bottle and once they ran out of bottles of Bellini's they retorted to filling a glass with brut and then some puree and feverishly stirring it before serving. I will mention that my crush was crushing at least. I'm not sure if it were freshly squeezed OJ, but i enjoyed. Not once were we checked on to refill water, drinks, etc. I finally got the attention of a waiter to just clean off my table as me and my friend only made one trip to the buffet. I literally didn't get table cleaned until it was time to pay. Overall, will I go back if in Roland Park one day, YES! Did it leave a lot to be desired? YES! Not a good day! read more

The atmosphere is inviting and the restaurant is nice enough to visit as a date location, and chill enough for happy hour with friends. This restaurant is in fact a unique restaurant set in a beautiful new location with a friendly staff (outside of the hostess that seemed like she totally didn't want to be there). Below are cliff notes of my families experience there from 5/1/26: 1. Ordered the Crab Dip appetizer- Crab dip was served to the table containing a sour smell and taste, sent it back and was taken off our check. 2. Ordered the Bacon Steak appetizer- Was delicious until a piece of plastic was discovered under one of the last pieces. No compensation. 3. My mother-in-law ordered the Shrimp & Scallop Rizotto for dinner and split it with my wife- later that evening they both got sick. Due to the severity of symptoms, severe stomach pain and bleeding, my mother-in-law went to the hospital the following evening and was diagnosed with Colitis most likely from the seafood. She has missed two days of work. That evening I called The Barn and Lodge to inform them of potential food borne illness and concern for future diners. I was told management would contact me. One phone call and email later, it wasn't until today that I heard back from management. They really dropped the ball on communication and handling this situation.
