So as far as a lovely view, this place was ideal. The food was pretty sub par and the service, while friendly, was extremely slow. We waited over half an hour even though all we ordered were sandwiches. My sandwich, a grilled cheese with crab dip was actually not heated at all, not the bread or even the crab dip, so it wasn't very tasty and being cold on top of that kind of sunk it. I didn't get a chance to even ask if they could heat it because our server never came back to check on us after that, unfortunately. Several other items we ordered were missing ingredients, like the cucumber in a mixed drink and the salsa on a veggie burger, so that was disappointing. Overall, a pretty view and I might come back just based on that but not because I was impressed at all with the food or service. BEAUTIFUL VIEW, WARM SERVICE & GOOD FOOD! We were looking for having lunch with beautiful ocean views and this place didn't disappoint. We arrived there and the the restaurant was spic and clean and had this breeze feel from inside. The deck was full but the waitress told us to wait for 15 mins and I am glad we did. The views from the outside were amazing. The sun was blazing, there was little breeze and the shade due to umbrella, there were kayaks in the water and you can hear the water gushing on the pier. The server was pretty friendly and started us with a carafe of sangria (which was okay-ish) and pina colada which was amazing. For entrees we ordered: - Maryland crab soup which was creamy and delicious - Soft crab sandwich which lacked some seasoning but otherwise okay -Steamed Mussels which were fresh and delicious -Mrs Frans Crab cakes which were perfectly cooked and delicious - Veggie burger which well seasoned and delicious! - We ordered Baltimore pie (way too sweet) and Key lime pie (perfectly sweet and tart and creamy) for desserts! Island View Waterfront Cafe The weather was perfect, sunny, cloud-free, and an ideal day to have lunch at a waterfront restaurant after a fast, cathartic, ride in my BMW Z4 3.0i convertible. My friend, Jackie, and I decided to take the twisting and tree-covered backroads to go to Island View Waterfront Cafe for lunch. The cafe is located at the tip of the peninsula in Browns Creek with a deck that overlooks a beautiful scenic view of the water, kayakers, canoers, boaters, fisherman, and water wildlife. Granted, it was a Tuesday, but, the cafe was practically empty of patrons. We noticed a few cars in the parking lot and finally determined that the cars probably belonged to the employees. When I checked-in on Yelp, I received a message indicating that I was entitled to a FREE DESSERT. We asked the hostess for a table on the deck. Amanda served us by bringing me a cup of water and Jackie a cup of iced tea. I ordered a cup of the Maryland Crab Soup as an appetizer. As an entree, I ordered the ISLAND VIEW WINGS (sauce: Caribbean Jerk). Jackie ordered the CHICKEN'DILLA (grilled chicken, cheddar & tomato) as her entree. Jackie asked for the chicken blackened. The Maryland Crab Soup arrived at the table. Upon first view, giant lumps of crabmeat were visible with the standard fare of vegetables. The chunks of crabmeat were sweet and delicious. However, as for the broth and vegetables, it was flavorless. The soup definitely needed a kick of McCormick Old Bay Seasoning, perhaps some coarse ground pepper, and sea salt. Each spoonful included crabmeat and veggies, although, most likely frozen. I'm not going to ding the cafe for using frozen vegetables in the soup, although, they might try the "frozen soup vegetables." The frozen soup vegetables include okra and some other vegetables not added to the standard frozen vegetables. Our entrees arrived at the table. I'm going to venture off the territory slightly here by saying that Ohioans absolutely "LOVE" their wings. There are wing joints on practically every corner. If any of those restaurants or wing stops attempted to serve anything less than a dozen wings, in an order, there would be absolute chaos. In Maryland, I've found that an order of wings constitutes eight to ten wings, at most. My ten Caribbean Wings with creamy, not chunky, blue cheese and celery stalks, were a dry-rub Caribbean spice mix. I've eaten a lot of wings in my time. Island View Waterfront Cafe's ISLAND VIEW WINGS (Caribbean Jerk) were dry, unimpressive, and bland. The celery and blue cheese had more flavor than the wings. Jackie's CHICKEN'DILLA came with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. We both looked at the shredded coleslaw and almost simultaneously said, "I don't like that type of coleslaw." We both happen to like the creamy, sweet, grated coleslaw more. A small plastic cup of mango chutney, sour cream, and ketchup accompanied the entree. The four large slices of the CHICKEN'DILLA with the side dishes was a big meal for a lunch entree. After Jackie put sour cream and mango chutney inside the CHICKEN'DILLA, she said, "Nope," then got up from the table and walked inside the cafe. She returned with a bottle of Tabasco sauce. Jackie doused the inside of the CHICKEN'DILLA with the Tabasco sauce and said, "Better, but not great." She ate two and boxed the rest for her daughter. I happened to notice that the Tabasco sauce was expired by two years. When Amanda returned to our table and asked if we wanted anything else, I reminded her of my free dessert. She told me that they were out of ice cream but had three different pies that were catered from an outside vendor. She described the first as the "Baltimore Bomb," (a chopped Berger Cookie pie), a Key Lime Pie, and a Chocolate Pie. Being a homegrown Baltimorean, I went with the Baltimore Bomb, since Berger Cookies is featured in my soon-to-be-released book "Baltimore Memorabilia." Unfortunately, the Baltimore Bomb was a bomb; a complete disaster. I know Berger Cookies; raised on them, understand the importance of putting the package in the freezer, and then eating the cookies with ice-cold milk. This pie tasted nothing like Berger Cookies. I can assure you. I'm a Berger Cookie fanatic. I'm rating the cafe as two stars; one for atmosphere and ambiance, the other for service. I've never done a super bad review. I work in customEr service though, and I've been through many many hours of a service training and how to treat clientele! Saturday night when my friends and I went for restaurant week we experienced some of the worst service ever! For starters, the restaurant was virtually empty for the first 20-30 mins we were there. I get it being the off season. Well we put our orders in and no lie we waited for about an hour... people actually came in after us, and had been served, ate and left before we even got our food! The waitress did come over once to check in on us, but most of the time was just spent waiting... When the food FINALLY arrived, I had never been more disappointed. Now I'm not trying to trash this place, but I had never been more disappointed! I got the double crab cake platter aNd it tasted like they had made freezer crab cakes and then let them sit out before being brought to our table! I couldn't believe it! Everything was awful. I wonder if there was no chef that day. Crab cakes had some lump crab, but weirdly, seemed to be bound with bread crumbs. Horrible. Cream of crab "soup" tasted like plain white sauce. Regular crab soup tasted spoiled. No seasoning nor salt on anything except the slaw which seemed to have too much pepper. Service was barely adequate. And WAY to expensive. What a disappointment. I hate writing such a bad review, but people should save their $100 or the owners should step it up. read more

It is a very cute small restaurant with a great view of the water. It was moderately busy when we arrived for lunch and there were five of us. Almost all of us ordered soups to start which came out quickly and were great (Maryland crab, and cream of crab). It took a great deal of time for our main dishes to come out. It was not packed by any means so we don't know why the wait was so long. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive but she did bring out he wrong meal to my brother when our meal finally did arrive. This is usually my go-to spot to grab dinner on a nice day! Tonite was a treat for family members who were looking to eat outside on this beautiful day. We typically go by boat and over the past few years the pier has really gone downhill. Not too much of a big deal but for such a nice spot, a decent pier may draw in more customers by boat. Moving along to deck seating. We typically sit outside to enjoy the breeze and views. Again, over the past few years, we have noticed the outside could use a good pressure washing! The music is always chill, sorta like coffee house music. Most of the time seating is available. Now for the food this evening..... 1. Crab pretzel- not very good for the price. Made with imitation crab meat and not like the crab dip style topping that is served everywhere else in the area. Would not recommend. 2. Shrimp tacos- fried shrimp, decent size, but again.... fried. Only these shrimp were on a plain flour tortilla. Similar to a shrimp po boy! Cmon..... no other toppings? !They were out of the mango salsa, amongst many other items on the menu. They mentioned that the shrimp would typically set on cole slaw and that it was served on the side. So imagine your shrimp tacos.... plain as can be with fried shrimp and a tortilla. Wow..... 3. Crab quesadilla- again, made with imitation crab meat and very plain. To be honest, it was not eaten and removed from check. 4. Soft crab sandwiches- very good! I had mine with bacon, lettuce, tomato and cheese! Very good. 5. Cheesesteak- decent sub, minimal Meat but tasty. 6. Cream of crab- took a lil longer than normal as they ran out and had to make a fresh batch. Came out warm but not hot but did taste good. The crushes were very good! A few other items to note; Womens room, out of paper Men's room, hot water on faucet was broken Take home bags were of TJ Max, Food Lion, etc. I get the recycling, but cmon.... a bit odd. Drinking straws were coffee stirrers and not a standard drinking straws. The wait for food was longer than expected. I will be going back to my fav go to on the bay! Tucked away in the very back of a residential area, Island View Waterfront Cafe looks more like a quaint little old waterfront home than a restaurant. Once inside it still has a very homey feel like you'd expect someone's grandmother to come walking out of the kitchen at any minute to greet you. They have a small full-bar area and tables inside. But if the weather permits, I'd highly suggest taking advantage of one of the tables on the small outdoor deck. The expansive view across Brown's Creek and out into the Chesapeake Bay is pretty spectacular, especially at sunset. They have two piers for arrival by water. But according to the bartender, the low tide water depth is only around 3' deep and you have to stay in the relatively narrow marked channel to get in. So if you're planning on arriving in anything over 30', make sure you check the tide tables and arrive on the high tide unless you want to be guests of Island View Waterfront Cafe until the next high tide comes back. They've got a good selection of apps, sandwiches, and even taco's on the menu. We opted for the soft shell crab entree, which was very good. For an appetizer we did the traditional Baltimore style "Coddies" on saltines with a dab of yellow mustard. They hit the spot when combined with an ice cold beer. It's a little out of the way, but if you're looking for someplace casual, with reasonably priced, good food, and a spectacular view, the Island View Waterfront Cafe is definitely worth seeking out. read more

I came here with a large group on St. Patrick's day. It wasn't extremely busy, but it wasn't really slow either, so the service really should've been better. Once everyone arrived, we ordered drinks, and it took about 15 minutes to get them. Everyone in the party was getting hangry, and the waitress kept checking on us, but still didn't take our order. Finally after we were there for about 45 minutes, our order was taken. At this point, the dining room was starting to thin out. We ordered and waited...and waited...and waited. Food started coming out, but in no particular order, and not even all at once. Half of us had food, while the other half didn't, and the waitress was off waiting on other people. I ordered a crabcake and oysters. For a restaurant that is right on the water, I expected much better seafood. The crabcake had a really odd taste as if they had used fish as filler. Either someone is REALLY good at uniformly breading oysters, or these were frozen and just dropped in a deep fryer. My vote is for frozen. One member of my party got a burger, and it looked pretty good...I should've went with that. I've been here before, and I don't remember the service being so slow, so I am pretty disappointed and confident that I won't go back. read more

I truly do love this "locals" place! I am sad they are closed for the season, but can't wait to see them again in the spring! This hidden gem is tucked away in a cute little community past Rocky Point. We've been here numerous times and one of things that keeps bringing us back is the VIEW! Surrounded by water, gorgeous sunsets, and ample indoor/outdoor seating while maintaining an intimate feel really has made this place a favorite for me. Food My go-to is the pot roast french dip sandwich. Shredded chunks of beef fresh out of the crock with carrots and a smooth melted cheese paired with a perfect au jou. I've also had the pleasure of trying their wings, shrimp salad sandwich, and lobster omelet. My boyfriend loves their jalapeno bbq burger and they cook it perfectly to his liking every time. They also have a fun list of specialty cocktails that never disappoint! They offer brunch/breakfast on the weekends during the warmer months, offer AUCE crab nights in the fall months, and I've even seen them host yoga events on the water on the weekends. This place offers so much for their customers! Service Time and time again, we've always had great attentive service. Even when they're slammed on a busy, beautiful Saturday night, we never felt neglected or had any issues. The only issue we've experienced is showing up to the restaurant and finding out they were closed for a private event. We learned that lesson the hard way, so now any time we plan on heading over I would check their Facebook page for any announcements or just call the restaurant directly to make sure they are open. My wife and I went out to celebrate with an anniversary meal and stumbled upon this place. We sat down and watched as a young girl and her mother came in, requesting to be interviewed for a potential job. In front of both my wife and I, as well as several others eating within earshot, the girl and the man (who is presumably management) conducted her interview, which in and of itself is unprofessional to have out in the open while people are trying to dine, not to mention for the sake of the young girl. I overheard her asking what the dress code was and his response was "shorts, yoga pants...I praise the god who made yoga pants." He then went on to say that he knew from the moment she walked in that she'd get the job, and told her she could start Wednesday. I'd like to make it clear that the food and service was impeccable and delicious, 5/5, but I would never plan on returning knowing management has this disgusting mindset and speaks this way to not only a young woman but a prospective employee. It makes me wonder how the rest of the staff are treated and whether there's favoritism, discrimination, unprofessionalism, and a lack of morals. Those of you who plan on eating here can choose at your discretion, I just felt the need to share my experience and observations of the restaurant's staff. Brought a large group of friends here for dinner. The view is absolutely amazing, especially at sunset. I also appreciated the small, cozy feel. Their menu has a wide variety and they are willing to change things to meet dietary needs (i.e.; grilled shrimp instead of fried). I had the shrimp tacos and they were the bomb! The crabcakes, pot roast, and chicken got good reviews at our table... the prime rib not so much. The reasons I didn't give 5 stars were that it took an hour to get food on a night that wasn't busy, the waitress seemed overwhelmed/overworked and therefore wasn't super kind (I did feel bad for her), and they were out of sweet tea (which is pretty basic). Such a gem! I got the Groupon for 2 hours of kayaking and dinner at the café. Kayaking was wonderful. Beautiful area, water was fairly calm (even though we went on a windy day). The staff setting up the kayak gave recommendations on the easiest route to paddle to avoid fighting the wind and currant, which was very much appreciated. Even though it was a bit chilly and windy, we had a great time. I was glad I brought a change of warm, dry clothes to change into after. The restaurant was lovely. Friendly and attentive staff. (I wish I could remember our waitress' name because she was fantastic.) Very warm and relaxing ambiance with great views of the water just outside the window. The Groupon allowed an appetizer, two entrees from a prix fixed menu (with plenty of choices) and two beverages of choice. Our waitress gave great recommendations, although I have a feeling everything on the menu would have been delicious! We decided on the crab pretzel appetizer, which came out piping hot with big chunks of crab meat and melted cheese. For entrees we did the crab cake (broiled - an excellent recommendation) and swordfish. Nothing fancy, but both were very tasty. Love this place--it's so so peaceful and visually quiet. Just a great setting to unwind. Food is mostly homemade and basic good, down to earth, reasonable prices. We both had crab cakes; pretty darn good and a great price. Cole slaw NOT the super sweet kind, which I actually prefer. Everything tastes average to pretty good--massively boosted by the peaceful setting and pretty low drink prices. Garlic green beans crisp and tasty; fries were freezer kind, mashed potatoes def made right there. Strip steak and scallop special tonight was only $18! Didn't have it but was amazed at that price. Since I been going there they have a new cook in the kitchen now and I must the food has improved greatly! The view is always amazing. The waitress staff is always very polite and welcoming. They are willing to adapt to your taste . For example, the shrimp tacos normally come with fried shrimp but I prefer steamed , they were able to substitute the shrimp for me with no problem at all. Went to celebrate my sister's 65th birthday. We were first to arrive for lunch on a Wednesday. Nice place with a great view. Unfortunately that was the best part. After waiting 20 mins for our food, the flies were warm and limp. The crab cake was the worst I've ever had in Maryland. The fried oysters were over cooked, a dark, over cooked appearance. The crab cake taste like the oysters. The cole slaw was just a waste. Just Shredded cabbage with some tasteless sauce. The server just sat our check on the table and walked away. I'm living in Baltimore for 4 months on an internship. I don't know anyone here and it's the first time I've lived on my own. I'm trying to explore the city and have new experiences, which is how I discovered this restaurant. I sat out on the patio at a little table by myself and order the salmon. Eventually the owner noticed me sitting by myself and we started a conversation. The weather was beautiful and the food was incredible and for a little while I wasn't so homesick. We dined on a Friday night, and there was 7 of us. We are locals and dine out frequently. We were hoping to make this a popular spot during the warm weather season. Last week we attempted to come by boat but their pier was damaged so went somewhere else. This evening we came by car in hopes of a good experience. The cream of crab 1/2 and 1/2 mixed with Maryland crab was a bit thin for my taste and luke warm. The grouper bites were horrible over-fried fish sticks which was disappointing since I also ordered the grouper tacos. I never imagined it would be fried and it was. Shrimp tacos, yup the were deep fried frozen butterfly shrimp. My daughter would not eat them so we took them home. The pot roast was served over white bread which I thought looked more like a school lunch instead of grand mom's recipe. The grilled chicken sandwich was dry, tasteless and overlooked. The steamed mussels were smallest I have ever seen served in a restaurant and the sauce was maybe 25% wine and 75% water from the Middle River- lol just kidding. The Middle River probably tastes better. The location is nice but we didn't have a view because it was dark, which might explain why we didn't see the swarms of mosquitoes eating my children alive. No torches or complimentary spray or anything and it was really, really bad. Completely forgot I had bug repellent wipes in my car. So do plan ahead. One meal that seemed to be a home run was the quesadilla with crab dip. He absolutely loved it. And the crab pretzel was really tasty as well. We think it has hot sauce in it. We ordered the desserts to take home because we heard they were from Dangerously Delicious. They were good but not good enough to come back for a full sit down meal. The service was slow but not sure why- it was practically empty. A smart waitress will continue to offer alcoholic beverages to increase the check and and we struggled to get refills for anything. So I had an island punch.....yup only one. I still would love to try the kayaks and maybe another crab pretzel.. But honestly There are just too many other options locally to eat for far less money, faster service, and tastier food. read more

I enjoyed this restaurant being right on the water. The food and service were good also. One thing that that I did not like was when I arrived at 4:50, I asked to sit outside. There were several tables open at this time. The hostess told me "there was an influx of reservations between 5-6:30 and we could not sit outside". While dining, there were consistently 3-5 tables open the entire time. I left at 6:30 and there were still tables available. I'm unsure why they would hold all of these tables for people if they did not arrive. I was very disappointed that I drove all the way out there and I was not able to sit on the patio. read more

Beautiful location-- definitely worth taking the kayaks out. It's so peaceful and serene. We did the groupon option and were pleased with our food. Fantastic appetizers and crab cakes. I'd go again for the kayaking and a beer. Definitely avoid if you're in a rush as the service was a little slow. read more

Island View Waterfront Cafe - American Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

Food is delicious and the view is nice. It's located at the end of a residential road, so it seems odd driving there. Options to sit outside, but definitely wear bug spray if sitting outside. Inside seating is somewhat limited. My husband and I enjoy coming here for the awesome food and small, intimate feel instead of the hustle and bustle of a large food chain restaurant. read more
