Staff are also very nice in responding to texts checking in on her. She always comes home tired and gets great socialization there. We liked going there for the most part, but do not like the change in cancellation policy. now you have to cancel within 72 hours or you're charged anyway. most places allow 48 hours, so this seems excessive and no longer works with our frequent work travel schedule that can sometimes change a few days in advance. read more

We had sent our pup Momo to Barker Lounge for a few days while we were on our honeymoon. After several attempts to contact them about how Momo was doing, Barker Lounge was slow to respond and sent no pictures. We tried to reach them via email and Instagram. We were extremely frustrated with the lack of response while being in another country. Even after this concern, we decided to give Barker Lounge another chance. We tried to board Momo for a weekend but we could not access our online account. After a call to Barker Lounge, they told us that they BANNED MOMO BC MY HUSBAND WROTE A DETAILED NEGATIVE REVIEW. Instead of recognizing the issue and trying to resolve the communication issues we faced, they banned us! You can't even find my husband's review on Google anymore -- I suspect they reported it. Beware if you send your dog here. Bad work culture, I wouldn't trust them there. Additionally when we had first visited the facility, there was one person working the first desk and they completely rushed us when I asked for a tour. Even then they do not provide information on how they care for the dogs, when they are let out, how long they are kept in cages, and there are no cameras on the premise. The community deserves to know, since our pups can't speak against them. Barker Lounge, you should be ashamed. I will never recommend you to anyone. read more

Staff is not friendly, they don't voluntarily give you boarding updates and seem extremely bothered when you ask for updates on your pet. As a pet parent, I like to be able to make sure my pups are okay when I'm out of town but when I get no updates from their boarding facility and I'm made to feel like I'm a bother when I call, no thanks! I've taken my pups to several other boarding facilities over the years and I've always received status updates or photos and if I call they have always been happy to give me a verbal update too. This is not the case here. And from what I've read I'm actually fearful of retaliation for this review but I feel it's my duty to warn other patrons. read more

Being a dog mom and working full time ain't easy. The Barker Lounge has been awesome at keeping my toy poodle happy all day + exhausted at night. I was very anxious (and so was my pup) when we first came to The Barker Lounge. The manager was super nice and accommodated around my schedule and his staff helped update me on his behavior and reassure us he'd have a good time. Now, DiMaggio walks into Day Care on his own and happily. I do wish The Barker Lounge had cameras I could look at in real time. But I appreciate that they post on their Instagram and Facebook multiple times through out the day so you can check on your puppers. I was very disappointed about my dogs cut. I asked to not have clippers used except on his feet and they were used on his face. Also, the blending by his face looked a bit silly which was quite a bummer since we had a photoshoot the next day. While these were things I could look past, I then found cuts around his eyes that were not there before his day at the Barker Lounge. The next day when I spoke to them on the phone they were not very sympathetic and the groomer said she didn't notice the cuts on his eyes which meant they couldn't have been from her...but his day included arriving, then getting groomed, and then coming directly out to me which meant she either didn't pay attention to his face or nicked him and wasn't willing to admit it. I was so sad because our pup really loved daycare there but now I'm not sure if I can trust them since they seemed dishonest. read more

I'm sure it's like being a parent, but I love it when others "ohhh, ahhh" all over my puppy confirming that he is the most adorable dog ever. You'll get that treatment at the Barker Lounge! They seem to make everyone, pet owner and pet alike, feel special. They have grooming, day care, and boarding. So far I've only been able to use the grooming service (your dog must have all shots and have a "test" day before being fully admitted). They took great care of my puppy! When I picked him up, he looked great, smelled wonderful, and he was so happy. I could tell he was treated with care and that he had a good time, which makes me confident about having him return for their other services. They currently do not have a trainer for Puppy Kindergarten, but they assured me they want to hire someone who is a good fit. It showed me that they really take time to find a quality staff member. Having had my dogs at the BL for years , they have never come home with any kind of problem or injury. In fact, they always drag me to the door every time we arrive. My daughter worked there this summer and was observed and trained before she was allowed to be on her own with the dogs. The BL employees spend tons of time every day cleaning ALL the dog pens and play areas. They work very hard and actively monitor the dogs' play to help prevent behavioral problems. I am a paying customer of the BL and believe me, if I had any suspicions I would not keep sending my dog every week. They do a great job and my dogs can't get enough. read more

Just wanted to update my review since Duncan has now used the boarding services at the Barker Lounge! We were initially going to board Duncan with our vet (who is wonderful) but we weren't sure how he'd do seeing as how he doesn't really "know" the vet and he wouldn't be in his normal "daycare" routine. So luckily the BL still had room for him over Labor Day weekend! I'm pretty sure he had the best time ever at "sleepaway camp." The BL posted tons of pics of all of the pups staying for the weekend on FB so it was fun to see him with all of his buddies while we were on vacation. And when we picked him up, I'm not sure he actually wanted to leave. He got a report card and everything we had dropped him off with was kept organized and together and returned. It was nice to know how much fun he had on the report card... such a nice touch! read more

Time for our most recent review. Our pup Toby has now been coming to the Barker Lounge almost every weekday for over 2 years. And we STILL love it. The staff are awesome, Toby is excited to go (most days unless he just wants to 'sleep in'), and we both rest easier knowing he's looked after and having fun with his friends all day long while we're at work. They also handle his grooming, and we always get comments from people at the dog park about how cute he is and how well he's groomed. I really can't say enough about how great everybody is here. The staff LOVE the dogs, and the dogs love the team. Every single day I drop off a peppy puppy, and every night I pickup one pooped out pup! We love the Barker Lounge. This place is awesome! I have been taking my dog, Scotch there about once a week. He loves going. I was hesitant at first because you hear the horror stories about daycares and none of that has been proven to be true. AllisonD is awesome. She helped calm me down and assured me everything would be fine, even giving me a tour of the facility. Since then, Scotch looks forward to his weekly visits to the Barker Lounge. I have even boarded him there before and he came home and slept for days. :) A tired dog is a happy dog, and this is the motto for Barker Lounge. Thanks for all that you do. I first started taking Jax to the barker lounge to get groomed. They always did a great job and he always leaves looking great. Im pretty sure he was always happy with the results too. Then I took him for his evaluation for day care, and although he had a rough start, they gave him the time to warm up. He's not a social dog and wasn't used to being around other dogs. Now I feel like he is a day care regular and probably has lots of friends at the barker lounge, human and canine. He doesn't even look back when I drop him off and he's always in a good mood when I pick him up. I have also boarded him and every time I called (which was a lot) there was always a good report and someone to talk to during open hours. I trust the barker lounge has the best facilities and staff taking care of my pup. Keep up the good work. read more

While the things they do for the dogs are amazing the employees do NOT wear masks behind the doors of the lobby were customers are. Overall the dogs seemed happy however it is currently in the middle of a pandemic and masks need to be worn to protect everyone. When you call over the phone you are told that masks are required by all employees and customers. Dogs can get coronavirus as well as Kennel Cough. I wish I could rate this daycare/boarding/grooming shop higher, since it's close to home, plus they have super cute decor. But there are several issues: 1. My dog came here on a trial day, i brought lunch for him and he did not eat them, they did not return the lunch back to me, i am not sure if they even fed him 2. The kennels are small, it's basically a big crate, i wouldn't board my dog there 3. The outside and indoor play yards are very small, it wouldn't be enough for a large breed dog to run around 4. They will trade a free daycare if you write them a "dandy"review on yelp or google. It's one thing to ask for a review but only good reviews? 5. When i was given a tour, the lady said "oh yea i am sure your dog will pass" after just a mere 3 mins of my dog being there. Ok that is fishy makes me question how carefully they screen the dogs 6. When i went to pick my dog up, the guy was not knowledgeable and was already asking what i want to purchase. Didn't tell me about my dog's first day 7. Lastly there is basically no grass at the entrance, except for one small strip of grass by the sidewalk, which has dog poop. It would have been more sanitary if there is a poop bag station Think hard about where you bring your dog for daycare because he/she deserves the best. read more

Our puppy princess, Maeby, loves to stay at the Barker Lounge. The staff are incredibly nice and the facilities are amazing, especially considering the accommodations are for dogs... not people. The Barker Lounge is my favorite place to board Maeby when we go out of town. She always comes home exhausted, which means she gets lots of play time in. I like that daycare is included in the price of boarding and like that the dogs that are boarded aren't pent up in crates all day like they are at We've taken Maeby there for daycare a few times but traffic in that area is kind of a nightmare during rush hour, so that's why she doesn't go more often. Aside from the weekday traffic and them being slightly more expensive than some of the other doggie daycare facilities we frequent, the Barker Lounge really is the premier doggie daycare and boarding facility in Charlotte! read more

this review is for grooming only. We took our 2 bichons to BL for full grooming. I was very specific with the cut on one of them because his fur had been kept long for almost 2 years. He had a true Bichon cut with the puffy round head and straight legs. I asked for almost one inch (3/4 was what we agreed to) to be taken off and the head to be proportionate to the body, but remain full and round like it was when we arrived. The traditional bichon pom pom head. I stressed many times that the legs be straight and not conformed to his shape. Before, she had tapered them and it looked odd. When my husband picked them up, he called me to say I would not be happy and was right. He was the oppositte of what I asked for and looked horrible. He had stray tufts of hair that I had to trim because it was sticking out and uneven. Hair in his eyes and uneven strands all over, especially the ears. His ears had no shape, just lobbed off. I had to recut them. His sister must have had a different/ better groomer. She was in better shape with the exception of large tangles left under her front arms and needing a longer brush out. At least her legs were left full and not almost shaved like her brother. I did not call stephanie today to let her know how disappointed I was, but will do so next week. Maybe this place is good for simple haircuts and trims bur definitely not a complicated bichon. Will keep looking. I will pay more to keep them groomed according to their breeds style. read more

HORRIBLE CUTSOMER SERVICE. I am sad to say I have to agree with other reviews that they have gotten so busy they do not care about customer service at ALL. If you question anything they get very irritated. Firstly, their policy of NO cancellations seems rather rigid. In my surprise, I asked why this was and the person was SO abrasive in explaining/defending the policy it was a very unpleasant conversation (apparently past customers have booked every day and then cancelled). I was told to pre-pay and sign up online (they will not make a reservation over the phone). That would be fine, other than for a week I tried a few times to register and it didn't work. I called to see if they could help and again they seemed irritated and stated they would not take the reservation. After asking what I was supposed to do the lady tried to sign me up online and couldn't do it either (apparently I was the first person to identify a website issue with Internet Explorer). They finally resolved that issue and got me signed up (w/o any apology for the issue). I scheduled my dog for half day of day care and then grooming. Since half day daycare is until 1:00 and grooming is 3-4 hours I figured I would pick him up at 5:00. When I scheduled they didn't mention any specific pick-up time (by the way I scheduled over the phone b/c apparently you CAN schedule day care over the phone if you are also doing grooming but I didn't mention that as I didn't want to "push my luck" since clearly they don't like to be questioned). Be aware that if you want half day daycare followed by grooming you will have to pick up at 3:00 or pay for a full day of daycare (even though the dog will only be in daycare in the morning and you are already paying additional money for grooming in the afternoon - so they basically they double charge for all/most of the afternoon). I was NEVER told this and only realized it when I called mid-morning to confirm the grooming since they seemed a bit unsure of things when I dropped him off. They justify a full day charge b/c "they don't have room in the grooming area for the dog to wait". OK - fair enough (I guess?). If ANY of this had been explained to me in a clear (and hopefully NICE) way that would have been fine. However, when I questioned the cost/schedule (honestly trying to understand) I was told that I was being "rude" (FYI - I am in a professional work environment and must speak professionally at all times). At no point did I raise my voice, use profanity or criticize them. Asking questions (even if frustrating to the person being asked) does not equate to rude. Stating someone is being rude ONLY serves to escalate the situation, so why would they (the business) choose to escalate the conversation? Horrible customer service is the answer to that question. After being told I was rude by the first guy he said he was going to pass the call to the manager. I thought "that seems like a good idea", however her first statement was "So, I understand you have a problem with our policies". WHAT?!? I had never said I had a "problem" so again this will only serve to escalate. WOW!! I had to remind her that At NO POINT did I ever say that I wouldn't pay for a full day and possibly needed to DO a full day based on what they were telling me now (that I wasn't told when I scheduled). She then stated that she had " told me several times on the call" what their policy was. I had to ask her to stop saying that they had "told me several times" b/c obviously I didn't yet understand or wouldn't continue to ask questions... and that, in fact, saying that to someone could be considered "rude" if they wanted to use that word so freely. She then told me that they would prefer if I came to get the dog right now.... WHAT?!? I am at work! Granted, we are having a strained conversation but they think it is reasonable to suggest that I leave work immediately to come get the dog simply b/c we are having a problem on the phone?!? How would that change anything? Is the dog that was doing "great" a few minutes ago now somehow causing a problem being there? What an amazingly unprofessional and ridiculous response! She conceded that the dog would be fine there (I would hope so!) and that in the future to not use their service. Obviously I would NEVER GO BACK so it is ridiculous she felt the need to tell me not to come back. Just another example of horrible customer service. Had I made a scene in the shop or used language on the phone that was inappropriate at all then, yes, tell a customer to come get their dog/not come back. However, they should be able to handle a conversation w/o escalating like they did. Given what I've seen I'm sure they will post a self-justifying response here - if they even bother to respond to feedback vs. acknowledging there was NO reason to treat a customer in such a way over a simple question/misunderstanding. read more
