I can't say enough about the groomer's at Petco Charlotte! My Moyen Poodle puppy is going through his "fear stage" right now & scared of everyone & everything! When we got to Petco, I was worried. But then, there is Mrs Jessica! She is his groomer & the manager at this location. He was whimpering & like a kid, reaching up for love. Mrs Jessica reached right down to him and picked him up; and he's no Toy Poodle lol. She always does a great job but since it's his birthday, I feel he got an extra special big boy cut! I will also share that, under her leadership & team focus, I've noticed the same level of caring from all the staff. Now parking!!! Whew! It's a parking deck so that's a pain HOWEVER, it's a Target on the 3rd floor, some great shopping in walking distance and a Frutta Bowl right across the way! We arrived to the store at 7:30 and the doors were locked. I called several times and no one answered. As I waited to see if any staff would acknowledge customers standing at the doors, 13 other cars showed up and customers walked up to the store being locked 30 min early. Lazy staff is unacceptable! For dog grooming do NOT use SARAH! She does a horrible job. Had to return for someone to redo the face & tail on my schnauzer. It was as if she skipped over. Sarah was also rude in the process. I caught a woman outside a petsmart trying to dump a hamster because they wouldnt take it back. I took the hamster so it wouldn't get put outside and called a dozen places and this petco was the only one that was kind enough to take it for me!! I will start off by saying I strongly dislike giving bad reviews, but this one is necessary. I made an in person appointment for my dog to receive a basic groom and was quoted a set price. Fast forward to the next day, I arrived with my fur baby and was first ignored by the lady at the desk, then when someone came from the back to finally greet us he informed me my price was going to have to be increased by $24 if I wanted my baby to be groomed due to him having black nails. I asked for more clarification and he repeated exactly what he'd said before in a more stern voice. Although upset, I held my composure when informing him I made my appointment the previous day while in person so I did not feel like the price should be increased due to my baby having the same black nails he'd had the day prior. He again repeated the exact same thing verbatim as before. I replied by telling him to just cancel my appointment because I did not feel his price increase or treatment of me was acceptable. I feel as though price gouging or upselling is highly inappropriate when dealing with fur babies and instead of accepting I was not ok with the price increase he decided to be rude which was completely unacceptable. read more

This is a convenient place to get my goldendoodle's nails trimmed and ground down in between groomings. We live a few minutes away from this Petco and I figured why not try it for the convenience. I am typically skeptical about big box dog stores, particularly their grooming services, but immediately upon entering and interacting with the grooming staff here, my anxiety was eased. Immediately when you walk in, the grooming area is located on the left. Both of the times I came here, I have had to wait only a few minutes for one of the groomers to come greet me and take my pup back. There are windows to see into the grooming area and I have always been happy with the way the groomers treat the dogs and my dog. Nail trim and grind will run you the standard $15 and it has lasted as long as other trim/grinds from other more expensive dog boutiques. The Petco store in general is on the smaller side, but you can find all the foods, treats, and toys that you would need. There are a bunch of chews located at the front near the register that I have gotten that have kept my pup busy for a while when I have company over. Only major downside is the parking situation. I have been lucky to find a spot out front each time I have come, but I know the metropolitan is pretty busy most days. I recommend coming here on non busy weekends or first thing on the weekends before the crowds. If you are unlucky and do not find a spot out front, you can always park on the 2nd floor of the garage by the stairs/elevators and walk down that way. I avoid the 1st floor in the parking garage at all costs!! read more

It was only $15 for the puppy package for under 6 months which was everything we needed for our girl. They did a great job and were so nice to Indi. My dog has had several groomers over the years (she is 11 and the groomers moved on to other locations - the only reason I haven't been able to keep the same groomer over the years). Never, ever has a groomer said that she was difficult or anxious. Yet after her last groom I was told she had a "meltdown" and that she could no longer be groomed at Petco. I am actually fine with that because I suspect she was manhandled and treated very badly. To begin I wasn't even going to write this review because of how furious I've been. Please know you've been warned, if I could rate this place negative 5 stars I would. Checking in the groomers attitude was off and abrasive, she seemed very aggravated and just not happy to be there. I have a full breed Shihtzu and around his face was matted. His body however was fine and we came to the conclusion his face would have to be cut down a little lower than normal. Upon arrival the dog they brought out didn't even reflect the breed. She shaved off all of his face AND ear hair. Never called to let me know or verify that's what I wanted. The two biggest problem I had however were discovered after getting home. On my dogs stomach he was still very matted, it look as if they didn't even check underneath him. And my biggest concern was my dogs attitude. I possibly have one of the clingiest most loving dogs and he was clearly traumatized! He would barely let me or anyone touch him until the next day, and was being very aggressive even growling at the family whenever people would approach him. He never does this. I truly believe the groomer was either manhandling or abusing my defenseless dog. She made passive aggressive comments about him being rambunctious ( as if he's not a 11 month "Dog" not puppy which she rudely explained when I referred to him as one). My dog has gotten groomed a total of 5 times in the almost year I've had him, and never has any groomer say anything wrong, nor has he acted like this after. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG HERE. read more

When I walked in no one greeted me, she simply pulled up the receipt and had me pay. When I saw my dog for the first time I was shocked...pictures to prove. She was cut unevenly, they shaved her ears which I specifically asked them not to do (and no she was not matted) the feathering on the back of her legs looked like my 2 year old nephew did it. So close to the house I can bike or walk there on the Little Sugarcreek Greenway! We get our specialty dog and cat food there, today I went in since I'm cranking up my 75 gallon aquarium again after many years. At this point I'm cycling the new tank so I'm only looking for some live plants. The staff was very helpful and I was able to get some clearance plants for 50% off given they had some dead leaves - great deal. I also bought a cool natural tree thing that held three additional aquatic plants that looked like a living underwater tree! I also checked out the fish which I'll add in a few weeks, prices were decent and every tank the fish looked healthy, kudos to the Metropolitan Petco Fish team! read more

Worst experience at a Petco groomer ever. My dogs have been groomed at this location in the past with no problem. I take time off work, show up and all the sudden they need a doctor's clearance to groom my dogs because they have heart conditions. They wouldn't even take a verbal confirmation or an email from my vet. Even my vet's office found their request to be ridiculous. Everyone I have encountered at this location is SO sweet. 2 times I had to talk to managers and they couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. This location is always clean. I bought my puppy his collar, harness, leash, and food here. When you sign up for the rewards you get a book full of coupons. Recently, I decided to sign my puppy up for puppy training with Michael. I went in the day before class started to pay for the classes. They were running a deal, $40 Petco cash if you bought training classes. The person who wrung me up also signed me up for Petco rewards. After I was done with my transaction I remembered that I needed to grab pet food. I was looking through the coupon book I received from signing up for rewards and noticed that the food I was going to buy was free after a $20 purchase. I also noticed that there was a $10 off coupon on training. I went back to the register and explained this to the man who checked me out and he asked if he could get a manager. The manager, Ashley, was SO kind when she reissued the transaction. I really appreciated it and I'm happy that my neighborhood store is so friendly! Are you serious? I almost gave this location 1 star. No water bowl for dogs like other petcos. Brand new location but not well stocked. The cashier here is the worst, very incompetent. The item i was trying to buy had an extra 20% reduced to se sticker on it, the cashier is super incompetent. I asked what about the 20% discount, the cashier said it's already taken off, I said that was the original discount, she said then "i dont know do you want me to charge you more?" Wtf, this is terrible customer service and very illogical and lacks common sense. They need to do a better job screening people if they are to bring in a brand new location. This Petco is awesome! They are located right next to Target on Metropolitan, and you can either park in the garage and walk over or there are ~5 spots directly out front of the store. They have a wide variety of food, toys, and treats for cats and dogs. I have seen some small critter items, but I can't speak to that selection. They do have live animals at this store including ferrets and fish. The staff here are the best, and they're so friendly and greet us and our pets when we come in the door. I love their enthusiasm and helpfulness finding items. Side note: If you need a long-lasting chew treat, try their awesome selection of antlers! Our power-chewer dog is hooked! read more

Brought my dog in for the holiday grooming package. I was told since it was his first time being groomed they would have to see how much they could get done and the price of his haircut would decrease if they couldn't do the body. I ended up tipping $15 before even seeing my dog so altogether I ended up paying $100 even though clearly they didn't shave or cut his body and I didn't get the holiday handkerchief that was included in the price on the website when I made his appointment. Everything was done but the body so I expected the price to decrease as it was explained to me but of course they charged me full and now I have to bring him somewhere else to get his body fixed. HORRIBLE experience-would not recommend. I took my Golden-doodle to get her groomed a second time and they completely shaved her literally to the skin. She had a cut on one of her ears and around her bum from how closely and carelessly they shaved her. I had taken her there once before and they had notes on how we wanted her hair cut.. and I specifically said I didn't not want her hair cut at this second visit, I only wanted knots cut out as needed. When my husband brought her home I thought he picked up the wrong dog. I called and let a message for the manager to call me back, I just wanted to know WHY she's been shaved. I left four messages and the manger, Jim, never bother to return my call. I would not recommend wasting your money. These people do not care about you or your pet. read more

This was my first experience with grooming through Petco but it will not be my last! Saturday morning, I tried booking a nail trim for my dog online for the same day or next day. They were all booked. I called grooming to see if there was any way they could squeeze my fur baby in today or tomorrow. They told me to come on in. I arrived about an hour later, they took my information, took my fur baby back for a nail trim, and we were in and out within 30 min. I left this location upset and annoyed, I took my dog to get groomed and was turned away due to the groomer saying she could not service my dog because my dog was being aggressive my dog barked once, she stated my dog tried to bite her I informed the groomer she was lying because I was standing there watching, my dog is a very sweet dog she has never bitten anyone since I've had her and I've had her since she was barely a month old . When I asked the groomer why she stated That my dog was being aggressive she said my dog barked at her, when the lady in front of me dog barked several times and she wasn't turned away or told her dog was being aggressive. I asked to speak to a manager which was pointless because she really didn't care how I felt I informed them that I will be calling corporate due to me being Discriminated against while leaving a guy came in with a barking dog and she serviced him.
