Absolutely UNFAIR that arguably the coolest bar I've ever been to is all the way in Charlotte! Planned a weekend trip to the Queen City and wanted to make sure there were plenty of things to do with my pups, so I decided to check Skiptown out. A few days before we left, I created an account on the app, uploaded their vaccine records, and was approved for visiting the bar within hours! When we got there, parking was a little dicey, but once we'd parked and leashed the kiddos, we strolled right in to a seamless check-in process. I loved that there were separate entrance and exit gates because anyone who has ever been to a dog park knows the chaos of the in/out dance. This place was MASSIVE and filled with happy dogs of all breeds and sizes. The indoor space was nice for the dogs to cool off in, but the real showstopper is the outdoor space. There are ramps, tunnels, and even a splash zone. Staff is super attentive and keeps the place super clean. For the humans, there were 24+ taps and a full bar. There's nothing to say other than this place absolutely blew me away, I have been to several dog bars and parks in surrounding areas, and this one took the cake in every single way. From the second you walked in and you felt like you were being transported to a universe where there was no problems and nothing but happiness and wagging tales. The staff were friendly and attentive quickly getting drink orders made, and the ambience was unreal. There had to have been at least 80 dogs there all frolicking around and having the best time from playing in the doggie pools to running up on the ramps and all of the owners just peacefully sat by and enjoyed all that was going on around them. Not only was there a huge outdoor area that had a ton of open space but also secluded fences in case you wanted to have more of downtime with your dog and friends and didn't want them running all over the place with all the other dogs and there's also a ginormous indoor space with the tables and comfortable seating and beautiful meals on the walls. This is gotta be a go to spot if you have a dog and want to relax by kicking up your feet with a beer and enjoy some beautiful weather. I really wanted to love Skiptown's boarding service, but our recent seven-day experience left me with major concerns about communication, transparency, and overall care. During the stay, we received the daily "check-ins" through the app, usually 4-6 photos and a few basic icons (happy, cuddly, playful, etc.). These were cute, but they weren't actual updates. There's no written summary for the day, no notes from staff, and no way to understand how your dog is really doing beyond emojis. For a week-long stay, that level of communication felt extremely surface-level. Before drop-off, I asked specifically about eating habits, because my dog doesn't always eat consistently at home. I was told they would notify me if he stopped eating and might add a topper after a few days. Every single day in the food tracker, it showed "ate all food" at every meal, which is unusual for him, and honestly made me question the accuracy. If they changed anything (topper, flavor, prep), we were never told. Pick-up was also disappointing. After a seven-day stay, there was no closeout summary, no verbal update, nothing about how he did overall that week. They brought him out, handed him over, and that was it. No information on eating, behavior, bathroom habits, mood, or anything that changed while he was there. Within 30-60 minutes of getting him home, we realized something was wrong. He had almost no voice, no bark, barely a whimper, and even his yawn made no sound. It's been almost 40 hours and he's still extremely hoarse. We were given zero heads-up that anything happened that could have caused this. On top of that, his stool was extremely loose the moment we got home, loose enough to be concerning, with visible redness in it. That immediately raised questions about whether his food was changed, if a topper was used, or if he was given something that upset his stomach. Again, none of this was communicated. The issue isn't that things can't happen while a dog is boarding, of course they can. The issue is that nothing was communicated, not even at pick-up. No transparency, no notes, no warnings, nothing. As an owner, you're left guessing and trying to piece together what could have happened to your dog while he was under someone else's care. Skiptown can easily fix these issues by: * Providing actual written daily summaries (even short ones) * Notifying owners of changes in eating, behavior, or bathroom patterns * Giving a closing update at pick-up, just like any reputable boarding facility * Tracking and disclosing if/when they change food, add toppers, or notice sickness * Communicating immediately if the dog loses their voice, has diarrhea, or shows any abnormal signs The pictures are nice, but pictures don't replace real updates. Dogs had a lot of space to run and interact with other dogs and it had an indoor and outdoor area as well. I think that this place does the best job with creating a safe space for our pups to play in Charlotte! I love the grapefruit mimosas myself, and then love the pup cups and watermelon/banana pupsicles for Leila! We also got a really cool deal on a summer dog park pass on Memorial Day - ngl, wouldn't have thought to try it out without the deal - and now I know that when it ends I'm gonna have to keep taking her to Skiptown! My little Leila is socializing so well now that we go to Skiptown every week or so. She used to bark all the time at passing dogs, but now it's just every once in a while when she gets bad vibes. She'll play with the doggos at Skiptown and feels so free off the leash. It's kinda funny to watch her play - she only wants to play with the big doggos and will play for like five minutes then retreat back under the bench where I'm sitting - it's hilarious, but also great that she can be herself and still find a safe place when she needs it. The space is really nice outside - so spacious and fun for the doggos to play. I think the inside is just like any other brewery, so when it's not nice outside, I'm probz not stopping here. But the outside is unmatched in Charlotte - especially for apartment doggos. The staff is also really good about making other doggos keep space - like if a dog starts humping your dog, they'll stop it. And I love that spayed/neutered is mostly required and you def have to stay up to date on your dog's vaccines, so you feel your dog is as safe as they can be in a place like this! Ps. my Leila is spayed :) so I don't worry too much about that anyways, though I def want other doggos to give her personal space when she needs it. Only every once in a while do I run in to a doggo that is kind of an a**hole, and it's always a reflection of their owner who's usually just getting drunk at the bar without even paying attention to their doggo - note, you should be watching your doggo when you're here - for their sake, if anything (your doggo loves you unconditionally and just wants to hang with you). Do wish that the staff would reprimand these people a little more, though. It's also a great place to make a pup play date with a friend while you catch up with drinks. I also did come on one of the days that they open up early to try to work there while my pup played during working hours. My opinion on that is mixed. They only open up the small side part of the bar and outside for these hours, which I kinda get, but with the scorching hot days in the Carolinas, there's not enough inside space for people to work. You and your dog will end up way too hot when sitting outside that long, plus your computer will start to overheat. I think they should have the whole inside open during these hours so you're in the AC and able to work - I probably won't be back for a "work day" given the limited space in sweltering heat. I will say their mocktails were super delicious and refreshing during these hours, so I'd grab another one of those if I did end up coming back during these hours. I honestly can't wait for their Noda location to open up because I'll be there daily - my biggest complaint about this Skiptown is the location. Parking is a nightmare and South End is just a nightmare itself for a thirties gal like me. I usually end up taking an Uber here just because it's easier. When you can't find street parking, the parking was like $30 in the garage when we were there for like three hours - way too much. If you are going to take your dog to Skiptown, perhaps only visit the dog park where you can stay with your dog. If utilizing for boarding or day care, I'd suggest elsewhere. It smells like urine throughout and your dog will come home covered in urine. I understand it's a daycare place and dogs do potty inside but the stench is overwhelming even in the check in area. Very off putting. Also the people who work the front desk do not give a fffffff. You could say excuse me and be standing there for 20 minutes (not exaggerating) and no one will acknowledge you. I had a really upsetting experience here and want to share it so other dog owners can make an informed choice. I brought my dog to this off-leash dog bar expecting a safe, supervised environment. While he was playing, a much larger dog aggressively ran up behind him and grabbed his fur. My dog screamed in fear, and I was visibly alarmed. What made it worse was the total lack of responsibility, the other dog's owners didn't check in or apologize, and when I brought it to a staff the guy just brushed off. I was told the dog was "just trying to play" and that my dog was just scared. But scared dogs don't scream without reason, and "playing" shouldn't look like aggression. I get that off-leash environments can be unpredictable, but temperament matters -- and so does staff response. The way this was handled (or not handled) left me feeling really unsafe and dismissed. I won't be bringing my dog back. Do not recommend going here. They don't do any temperament checks and the staff isn't trained. read more

Check in process is easy but make sure you have the app. Your dog has to be neutered if over 6 months and must be up to date on vaccinations which you can upload on the app as well. I love that the staff knows the names of the dogs, they are so attentive and friendly. They walk around and pick up the poop and keep the place tidy. The drinks at the bar are 10/10 !! They have specialty drinks around the holidays too. Doodle days are on Saturday morning before they open which is really fun and the doodle breed gets to play. I mostly like this place cause it's a cool place for dogs to run around in any weather condition. I can let my pup off leash and grab a drink with my friends. Staff is mostly attentive to cleaning up. Depending on the day, some employees see poop and just walk right by it. I have actually stepped in it so I'm hyper aware. Other than that, I really like the space. It's pretty big and there is an indoor and outdoor park. Everyone is nice and dogs are pretty socialized. While on the pricier side for entry, they create a great environment for social dogs to get some energy out while I can grab a beer or cocktail from their pretty impressive drink selection. During that time, Skiptown: - still charged me full price for boarding - did not provide twice daily report cards even though my paid membership included them - was inconsistent with their story (ie. sometimes I was told the facility had cameras, other times I was told it didn't) - did not volunteer any information unless I specifically reached out first and ASKED - did not monitor my dog as the vet instructed, and I was told by the manager, Donna, they "couldn't afford" that sort of manpower (a quick google search will show you that Skiptown raised $27 MILLION DOLLARS in funding in the last year) I cannot in good conscience recommend Skiptown to ANYBODY. Looking through reviews will show you that my dog's terrible experience is not uncommon. If you love your dog, please take them anywhere else. We've been going to Skiptown since we moved to Charlotte in 2023 and never had an issue -- until yesterday. We have an older dog (13), who is extremely kind and loves saying hello to everyone. While he was sniffing around, another dog viciously attacked him, pushing him over and biting his mouth. The staff didn't intervene while he was whimpering for help. We had to push the other dog off. The owner didn't take accountability or apologize to us. One of the employees "examined" our dog, claiming he was fine. It wasn't until we got to the car that we saw the bite on his snout. I quickly returned and asked to file a report on the other dog. However, the staff was extremely unapologetic and defended the other dog. Presumably, it's because the owner is friends with the employees, as she was openly smoking in the dog park and laughing with them. We plan on escalating this with corporate and animal control since we had to rush our dog to the vet. If you want a place that cares about your dog's well-being, skip Skiptown. We got here about 7 pm on a Thursday evening and it was buuussssyyyyy! FYI's: -Street parking; they have a tiny lot - Download the app before hand and create a profile, even if you do't have a dog. You will check-in on the app and it makes the process go by quicker - Dog referee's on the green and walking around. They were constantly filling up the water bowls, spraying down the turf and watching ruff* play - It looked like dog valet for doggy daycare; a car pulled up to the purple cone and an employee was outside and immediately went over to them and got some information. Parking in this area of South End can be an absolute disaster (so be prepared)--but if you are able to find a reasonable parking spot, and the bar itself is not overcrowded, there are few better places that are more enjoyable. I appreciate the fact that Skiptown is constantly trying to reinvent itself with specials/promos/events to keep things interesting and fresh. For instance, over the 4th of July weekend they offered $5 admission (normally $10), which was fantastic. I love how they have QR codes on the tables for easy ordering--really nice touch. The 'Skippers' (the staff who monitor the yard/dogs) are extremely attentive and clearly passionate about what they do--I rarely come here but by the end of my session, one of the staffers already had my dog's name memorized. Instead of speaking to the owner of the dog that was instigating the issue constantly I saw them grabbing my dog. My dog is boarded monthly so that he gets used to being around other dogs and Never had an issue. For your information - * If you come to Skiptown to meet friends and you don't have a dog, they will scan your drivers license using a system called Veriscan. I was told by one of the employees that Skiptown does not keep a copy of your drivers license if you do NOT have a dog. * If you DO have a dog, you've downloaded the app and set up an account for your dog, Skiptown will save a picture of your drivers license. For me, this was a cause for concern because, whether businesses are small or large, no one except perhaps a handful of businesses like Bank of America do information security well. I started bringing my dog here in October, the workers were all very friendly, and my dog was always happy when I picked her up. At the beginning of November my dog started to get really sick with symptoms I had never seen in my life. (She is almost five years old, and very healthy.) On November 6th I rushed my dog to the emergency room, where she almost passed away. We were in the hospital for almost 24 hours, where she was placed on oxygen, liquid IV's & liquid antibiotics. She was diagnosed with canine pneumonia, although they suspect that she might have the upper respiratory illness that has been going around in the dog community. She has been on eight different antibiotics all together, and thousands of dollars in vet bills. It has been three weeks now, and my dog is still sick. This entire experience has been extremely scary, and I feel like I have a different dog now with how sick she has been for almost an entire month. Every vet that I have been to suspects that she caught this from being in daycare at skiptown, timeline wise. I have told my story to other dog owners in the surrounding area, and surprisingly a few people have told me their dog got sick with similar symptoms, and they suspect it could have been caught at skiptown. I reached out to skiptown to let them know about what happened, and their response was extremely unprofessional and disappointing, not taking any responsibility for what had happened. It also seems very unsafe that your establishment didn't send out any type of notice to the owners of the dogs that were in my dogs play group that they were potentially exposed to this illness while at daycare, face to face with my pup. Especially given that this illness can be fatal in dogs if you don't catch it soon after being exposed. I'm praying that my dog will make a full recovery. As I said above, the workers are all extremely friendly at this establishment, and I loved all of the photos and updates that I would receive while my dog was being taken care of. But what I have witnessed my dog go through in the last few weeks has been horrible.Skiptown, please do better sanitation wise going forward, and consider sending out an email about what precautions you're taking in your establishment due to this canine upper respiratory outbreak. read more

They offer day care passes either standalone or in bulk at a great price point. They have a full service bar as well coupled with games and food trucks, so it's great for people too. It's both indoor and outdoor and there are always tons of dogs around, especially on Saturdays. Lastly, the staff are all incredibly nice and genuinely care about the dogs. They know them all on a first name basis and even provide pictures of the dogs while at daycare. As a member of skip town Charlotte, I have never had any issues or concerns until today. Usually, staff is amazing and extremely dedicated to our furry friends and I am always comfortable trusting them with my dog. Today, I was not pleased to see a staff member, Brenda, unprofessionally address a man and his dog on the dog's behavior.There were two other witnesses that addressed the man accused, saying his dog was not bothering anyone. The incident stemmed from another dog instigating and bothering other dogs. Brenda never approached the other dog's owners to control the dog even though other dog owners were keeping their dogs away. To me, it seemed as favoritism or racism. We've been to Skiptown nearly 100 times since purchasing our membership with no issues. Since Donna has taken over the support and customer service at this establishment has gone downhill very fast. Even after showing emails and documentation from my purchase nearly 6 months ago and communication with the Skiptown Support team, she demanded that I pay an additional fee for one of my dogs to get in the park. It's needless to say that if this isn't resolved and both dogs are allowed in, we won't be renewing our membership and will take all of our business (yes grooming and daycare) to another establishment. I was planning a visit to Charlotte to see Family, and my sister has a doggy now and wanted to take me to Skiptown with my boy Waylon. Before we went, I downloaded the app, made a profile and added shot records. This is a crucial step, as it makes everything a breeze when you arrive. The whole place is open and bright and cheerful. First is the main indoor area with the bar. We enjoyed some adult beverages, and also got some bone broth for the doogos! I liked that they had the reusable bowl for the broth that will collapse and go in his little travel bag. Next we ventured into the small dog area and let them run around a little and acclimate to being free of leashes and on the astro turf. There was no one else in this area so it was good to let them adjust for a little. Next we were ready to let them roam in the huge area where all the sizes of dogs are all mixed together. Waylon tends to get a little shy in places like this and took some prompting, but his cousin Poogan took off running! They played and sniffed and ran and jumped and had such a good time! The staff here on totally on point, they clean up the areas really well, they make sure no dog fights happen, and they are in general making sure everyone is having a good time. This goes for the people as well! It was a cold day and a staff member put on a heater for us near one of the picnic tables.
