The employees were friendly. We both ordered the lamb burger, which consists of two smashed lamb patties, homemade pickles, American cheese, caramelized onions, and mayo on a buttery potato bun. For our sides, we ordered the macaroni and cheese. One downside is there aren't very many drink options to choose from. I'll start with the burger. My burger was greasy. The smashed patties tasted burnt and, on the patty's edges, were crispy, black...I don't know what to call them, but they tasted like the leftover bits from the grill. When I tried my husband's burger, his tasted better and, for the first time in our married life, I asked if we could trade. The macaroni and cheese is spiral pasta with white cheddar sauce and sprinkled with shredded Parmesan. It was okay, but definitely needed seasoning. When we got home, we both had upset stomachs, which were enough to say we won't be returning.

It looks clean but isn't the same home-y spot we all loved. The kicker, though, is they changed the menu boards which now don't tell you what things are and they've like everyone else increased prices of normal items, including items that used to be included. Sandwiches used to come with chips, and now sandwiches are more and the small single size of chips are $4! Apparently they didn't read PepsiCo just missed a billion dollars in sales because they keep raising prices on Doritos. I can see add-ons for high quality products like soup, specialty fries, etc. I also know GDFC has expanded into KC, and I've been and spent healthy money at that luxury spot several times. But c'mon, this is just ludicrous charges at this point. When I realized the chip change, I asked for a refund of those alone, and the new sales terminal system took forever for multiple people to figure out. The manager on duty had to ultimately refund the whole thing, and reorder my entire order, meaning it's now cost all of us money in time. The staff is completely different - there's a chef in the back wearing a white coat like it's fine dining... the rest of the staff is friendly enough, but also not the same level of home we all got used to for many years. My sandwich finally came out, and it looks nothing like what we used to get - the Cuban is on a hoagie style roll. Not even that good anymore. No more winery inside, and limited drink options overall. And no more fresh ice cream, just overpriced "soft serve." I know we're in times that are a'changin... but some of it has gone too far. Hopefully they keep the same level of loyal business I imagine they had before. My loyalty has definitely shifted instantly to once in a while, if that.

I ordered a 3 meat platter which came with sliced brisket, burnt ends, and ribs with the Mac and cheese and baked beans as sides. In addition, I also ordered the pulled pork and sausage to sample. I felt the brisket was a little dry and light on the smoke, even though it was a pretty good sized portion. The burnt ends were also a little more on the dry side, and were not soft and pillowy. The ribs to me were also a little overcooked. The standouts to me for what I sampled was the sausage and the pulled pork. The sausage was not only a good size, but it was savory and seasoned well. The pulled pork was juicy and had good flavor and was on the better end in comparison to the competition. For the sides, the Mac and cheese was a little ordinary, but the baked beans had a nice flavor to them and had the extra surprise of having some meat (i think brisket) in there. They had 3 BBQ sauces to sample table side: sweet, bold, and hot. I did like the sweet, but I also liked the bold that had a deep, rich flavor. The hot was my absolute favorite sauce here, although it could've been hotter for my taste. If you happen to be in the cute little town of Smithville, this isn't a bad stop to get your fill of BBQ. Even if overall they are about the middle of the pack compared to the competition.

They don't even have a real sign, just a humble chalk board leaning up against the building. Reservations open a couple of months in advance, and they will fill up. I managed to secure a reservation ($25 deposit/person) on my girlfriend's birthday luckily! The menu changes seasonally. Many of the ingredients are sourced locally at peak freshness. Cheese from the creameries down the street. Beef from local farmers. Apples from the server's grandpa's farm. You watch the chef preparing everything in the open kitchen. We opted for the $90/person prix fixe menu, and it's the right choice. You can try so much of the menu. Everything was delicious. I think I finally understand what the judges on Top Chef mean when they say a dish is perfectly balanced. Even the whipped cream on the sticky toffee pudding changed my life. You will leave stuffed and happy - with your life changed. KC folks - I promise it's worth the drive out to Weston. Make it a day trip. Shop around, visiting a winery, tour Green Dirt Farms, end your day with the best meal of your life. Please leave mega early for your reservation time to find parking though. Downtown Weston will get parked up at night. Don't be late for your reservation time (but don't show up too early either). Remember, there are literally 4 tables. I went in for their pierogi's, and they didn't disappoint. Flavorful, filling, the dumpling was grest. I got a half dozen and cooked them up myself, a little boiling, then fried in butter, but they will cook them for you. They sell specialty sauces, flours, spices too. Such a cute shop make sure to stop in next time you are in Weston.
