Love the vibe, decor, bartenders and drink selections. Food is good but a little pricey.

We came in on a busy Friday evening, and were seated quickly. Our waitress was attentive without being overbearing. I got the Double Smashburger and it was really good. Not dried out, like a lot of smash burgers tend to be. My wife got the wings and said the were great. It's in a cool old brick building in downtown Smithville. Great all brick wall and exposed high ceilings and lots of TVs with sports, so I can see this being a great place to watch a Chiefs game! read more

We went to Gizmo's over the weekend to try it out for the fist time. First, the ambiance inside is super cool. The space is large enough to accommodate a lot of people! It has a really cool vibe to it. I ordered the bacon lettuce avocado tomato sandwich. It had a pesto avocado sauce on ciabatta bread. SO GOOD. Everything tasted fresh. The bacon was thick and they did not skimp on it. I ordered a side salad instead of fries. I feel like most places make simplistic side salads (ie lettuce, dressing, and maybe some cheese). This had cucumber, cheese, tomato, egg, crouton and dressing. I opted to add additional bacon which was perfect. The other order was a double smashburger with fries. It looked massive and I was told it was realllly good. The fries I had to steal a few of. They were seasoned impressively and were very yummy. We will definitely return to try more! read more

So, with nothing better to do on a rainy afternoon and evening I made another trip up to Gizmos in Smithville tonight! And while I was there, I dined on an entrée of seared salmon. You see they take some spinach and artichoke hearts along with grilled onions pistachio, Orzo, grape tomatoes, chimichurri, and Chile crunch. Cook all that to Perfection and put a lovely piece of seared salmon on top of it. And all I can say is it was completely delicious. Good flavor to the orzo and the bed it made, and that Salmon was particularly good. It was perfectly prepared, flaky and moist. Then there was the heat! It came from the chili crunch, and it brought the whole dish together! Well done Gizmos Tavern! Well done indeed! I apologize as I didn't take a picture but we tried Gizmo's tonight for the first time. Very nice decor and lighting inside. I came in after some research wanting to order the salmon. But our server informed us that the special was Prime Rib. So I had to order it and Oh My am I glad I did!!! One of the best prime ribs I've had, cooked to a perfect medium rare, with an excellent flavorful crust! Excellent and even better price! We will be back! read more

We went here the other day with friends and we all had different dishes.Everyone was happy with what they got. I got the beef short rib with mashed potatoes instead of polenta,the only thing I wasn't crazy about was they put au jus over the meat and potatoes which made the potatoes runny. It would have been better if it had a gravy over it instead to make it thicker and not make the mashed potatoes so runny,otherwise very good. Went to Gizmos for lunch and ordered the smash burger which was fantastic in flavor and quality! The vibe is good and feels very spacious, not cramped at all. The only area I could see needing improvement would be the waiting staff. Our waitress was quite cold and apathetic to serving us. We've been there numerous times now, and food, service, and overall atmosphere has been excellent! We love their wings, cheddar bites, potato salad, fries, burgers (Gizmo Burger is killer good), wraps, steak, and gumbo. Wish they had draft beer, but the wives loved their "Pretty in Pink" mixed drink! And they always have a frosted glass for our local beers. We'll definitely be coming back!! read more

Our party of 4 went early, around 5:30, so we were seated right away. We ordered cheese curds, calamari, lamb chops, steak, and shrimp pasta. Everything was cooked perfect and we all enjoyed our food. Service was a little slow but will improve with time as they had just opened. Plus we were in no hurry. Good meal- the hummus plate was terrific. I had their chicken sandwich which was also good, but would have been better if I weren't already full from the hummus. The layout of the restaurant and table arrangement was very odd. It made it seem much more like a pool hall than a nice dinner venue. So, I would say Gizmo's is pretty good for Smithville, but would be a bit lame for Kansas City. read more

Just bad service all around. Food just ok, we had charred wings (good) and fried chicken sandwich (ok). Sat at bar, no cocktail menu, beer selection is ok but not what I would expect. Bartender tried to charge me for four roses single barrel in my old fashion (well that what I ordered an old fashion, not sure I would call it a old fashion?), Then move the charge to small batch four roses, when I had yellow label four roses. (Big difference!!) I give this place a year mostly based on bartender and manger attitude which was present before I had to give a bourbon lesson. Sorry to the rest of staff. I will note that the couple next to us was having the same experience, as well as drinks were being returned, by wait staff. I absolutely loved my experience. For starters, the ambience is lovely. Such a cozy and inviting space to dine in Smithville. The service was prompt and friendly. My server was very knowledgeable about the food and was able to answer all the questions I had. Very personable as well. For my appetizer, I had the calamari. They prepare it themselves from start to finish. I have had my fair share and let me tell you, that was the best I've had in the midwest. For my entree, I was really torn between getting the mussels or the ciopinno. I decided to settle on the ciopinno and it was AMAZING! I could drink the broth straight from the bowl! It was a perfect sized portion and I almost thought of ordering some to take home with me. I will most definitely have to come back and try the mussels and see what the winner is. They have a few dessert options and all of them sounded delicious. The one that piqued my interest though was the sticky toffee bread pudding with popcorn ice cream. I have never heard of nor considered popcorn flavored ice cream. It might just be my new favorite. The bread pudding was delicious on its own but paired with the ice cream....wow. I would definitely buy it by the pint if they'd allow it. Lol! I will definitely be returning. read more

We had lunch with a large party recently and all were very pleased. Our waitress Ali, provided exceptional service as we had several questions about the menu and she had great insight into every dish. When explaining her my pickiness on red wine, I explained my preferences, and she recommended an excellent wine pairing with my meal.
