Finally able to try The Backyard in Pigtown. I had no idea this restaurant was across the street from the B & O Railroad museum. I found out about The Back Yard from locals who lived in Pigtown when I went to Pickett Brewing. I don't live too far from Pigtown but it was nice to see some restaurants popping up near Hollins Market. We met the bartender, Hailey and the owner, Mike. I can see this is a local bar and restaurant since it sounded like everyone knew each other. We seated ourselves and ordered our food. My significant other had the 7 spicy chili and I had the kielbasa and pretzel. I didn't each lunch so I was pretty hungry. There was so much I wanted to try on the menu. My friends really enjoyed the place and food. We will be back. read more

I have been to this bar on numerous occasions, I honestly thought I have blessed them with a review. This is by far one of my fave bars in Pigtown. The food and vibes are just really chill. By the looks of the bar, you would just think they would serve your regular of the mill pub food. Um, no. This place has the best charcuterie, tinned fish( for my tinned fish lovers). Best beer and wine list by far. Not to mention they have plenty of game boards and this bar is doggie friendly, so you are bound to see all kinds of cute fur babies. During the summer months the alley way patio is dope as well. They also have awesome weekly specials. The menu is pretty extensive really nice sandwiches and delicious salads. Their soft pretzel with hot kielbasa is a fave here. It also comes with mini pickles and different types of stone ground mustard . Next time I will try that. This evening I just got a greens and grains bowl with pepper salmon, sooo delicious. They also put confit tomatoes in the salad. A nice touch. I will always come to the Backyard for food and good vibes, especially to unwind after work. So if you are in the Pigtown neighborhood, come to Backyard. You will not be disappointed read more

I love The Back Yard. I haven't ever spent any time at the bar itself, but I always order food when I go to play a game upstairs at Silver Canon. Both the bar food and the game shop upstairs are perfect -- everyone's friendly, the vibe is casual, there's never any pressure. I miss Dan Morrison, the former manager, who unfortunately passed away in August 2025. All I will say is that everyone I've met there has been very kind to me and I feel safe, both before and after Dan's passing. If you want good Detroit style pizza, a good drink, or a fun time gaming with friends, definitely check this place out, and the Silver Canon shop upstairs as well. read more

I've been going to The Back Yard for years and am actually surprised I've never written a review before...sad but true. That said, I've enjoyed this place every time I've visited. It's your standard bar, along one wall is the bar, with some tables and chairs throughout. There's an upstairs but I've never been up there, and 2 clean restrooms (one is super small so be aware). I don't recall the occasions where I got food, but I recall what others have ordered looking quite tasty. Mostly what I like about The Back Yard is their beer selection AND the care the bartenders take to make sure I get the drink I want. I love how knowledgeable they are, and they make suggestion after suggestion until I make a choice I'm happy with. I'm an inconsistent visitor, but I will certainly visit again. read more

The cutest local spot if you're looking for a place to grab a bite to eat in pig town. They have a huge variety of craft beers and the burrata is to die for. The staff is very knowledgeable about Baltimore and the area. The inside is cute, like an elevated dive bar, and they have a ton of games to play while you wait for your food. 10/10! read more

The Backyard is located right in front of the B&O Railroad Museum. They have Daily Specials everyday of the week (except Monday). I went on a Thursday evening after visiting the local farmers market nearby and got the Free Draught with a Hot kielbasa (Polish sausage) platter. They have a vegan Italian sausage option as well. The platter came with one kielbasa, a hot pretzel, two mini pickles, and three different dips (stone ground mustard, mustard, and queso). Dan, our wonderful and knowledgeable bartender, informed us well on their different cocktails and described their draught beers well. I had the Bag of Barbies, one of their signature cocktails for $12. It was slightly sweet from the framboise, with a mild tartness from lime and cranberry bitters. They also have some bartender-special bourbon cocktails. The Backyard also is known for their diverse tinned fish collection that is available to purchase and try. They have everything from canned small squid and octopus to sardines and mussels. The tinned fish can be served on a charcuterie board with bread. Overall, this place is definitely a nice hangout spot. They are dog-friendly and have an outdoor patio. The service is well and the bartenders really know their menu items. read more

Stopped in for an early dinner at the Back Yard after visiting the farmers market across the street. What a nice local spot to drop in and get a bite and enjoy a brew. Our bartender knew her stuff and was able to make great drink suggestions. Food was excellent. I had the Thursday special spicy kielbasa that came with pretzel, spicy mustard, stone ground mustard, queso & cornishon....it was excellent and filling. My friend had the not so philly cheesesteak and its a hefty portion that came with a bag of chips. Will definitely be back as they have a game night and other themed days and events. This is not your chicken wings, hamburger type of bar. Instead they have large selection of Spanish fish. Decent selection of local beers on tap. Friendly owners and bartender . They have good happy hour until 7 with 5 dollar wines, discounts off draft beer along with can beer and well drinks. I live around the corner and have come here with my roommates and boyfriend. The sandwiches and apps are yummy and unique. No usual bar food which is nice. The veggie dip app was flavortown, omg. I had the Shepard's pie once and it was very sour (too much Worcestershire or beer?) but that was the only slip. I'm eager to try the vegetarian sandwich to see if it's up to par with the meaty stuff. They also have a selection of imported fishes as apps which would be interesting to try. Very European. Tried a few cocktails (and tasted friends' ones) and they're nice! Not too sweet. The owner is always in here, either behind the bar or wandering around, usually with his adorable brown pitty mix pup. Your pups are welcome here!! I love a place where the owners mingle. I wish I could show up more often but I'm too poor and therefore cannot walk the 500 yards will make it back for sure whenever I'm not feeling skint! read more

Fantastic neighborhood bar for you & dogs! It's across the street from the B&O Railroad Museum. It's close enough to walk to if you're in the following neighborhoods: Pigtown, Hollins Market, & Union Square. If you drive, it's easy to find free street parking. The bartenders/owners are very friendly and down to Earth. If you come alone, you can easily hold conversations with the bartenders, any of the friendly customers, or spend your time hanging out with Franklin-- the chill bar dog. This spot is fantastic to meet up with friends. The bar itself is a decent size for being in a neighborhood surrounded by residential homes. You also won't have to worry about shouting to have a conversation. The bar doesn't play loud music and all the TVs are on mute-- you'll be able to watch different sports & funny videos. The bar offers food that's different from your typical bar foods such as: burgers & wings. You should give the food menu a try, it's a new experience if you're used to the typical grub. I've always brought my dogs here and never felt unwelcome. The bartenders/owners are big dog lovers. I love bringing treats over for Franklin and my dogs to share. The bar is kept extremely clean and tidy even though dogs are welcomed. You don't have to worry about any odors. read more

Friendly, easy-going, neighborhood gem. We had Spanish sardines in olive oil and Portuguese stickleback in pickled sauce from their tinned fish menu. It came on a wood platter with a selection of breads, sour cherry spread from Croatia, fiery garlic aioli, roasted red pepper aioli, and tomato compote. Excellent. What a great place! It's across from the B&O train Museum. It's a new place in the oldest Irish bar in America! It's in the old Irish part of town. So I guess that makes sense. It's not large but very authentic. Original bar and back bar. The service was wonderful. Funny nice bartender/ owner, "Laura". Nice crowd of cool chill people of all sorts. Warm and comfortable. Very reasonable drinks made very well and a very reasonable and well chosen wine list. Limited food options but everything they have is outstanding. We had a charcuterie and cheese plate. This bar genuinely has everything you could ask for. The owners and staff are extremely friendly and seriously know their stuff. The cocktails are top class, the beer selection is great, and the food is amazing. Nothing was overpriced, and there's even a nice back patio/garden to hang out in if the weather's nice. If you can, get brunch there on the weekend. The Morning Board platter is a revelation. They make a great old fashioned cocktail, although the bartenders there have the skill and knowledge to prepare anything you could possibly want. We had them host our baby shower in their outdoor space and it was wonderful! The outdoor space has beautiful painted colorful wood fence, a mural, plants, separate bar if needed, and bistro lights overhead.
