We have visited AVG pub on many occasions and we are never disappointed! The owner/chef Tito is usually there when we visit and he knows his way around the kitchen! We have had amazing Cuban sandwiches, biscuits and gravy with a fried egg on top and out of this world bloody Mary's! Last night Tito made parrilla and he knocked it out of the park! The meat was cooked to perfection! Tito makes this delicious sauce called AVG sauce that went perfect with the meat, I even asked him if I could have a straw to drink the sauce straight up (joking!) Theresa was our waitress and she is always treats us well. I love that there are customers who regularly visit the pub and so it feels like your hanging out with friends. We always end up leaving happy, full and like we made new friends! Run do not walk to visit AVG Pub, you can thank me later!! read more

Love the AVG Pub. It's a friendly little bar located not far from the track. You could probably call the AVG a dive bar, but I'm going to define it as a great local neighborhood tavern. With parking out front, you enter under the large AVG PUB sign in to a small space with a bar on the right and high top tables to the left. The bar has a laminate bar top with no rail, but a small wooden edge. Torn up padded barstools with a rounded back support line the L-shaped bar. A square footrest sits in front of a perfectly themed for the area, brick bar face. In addition to the bar face, most of the decor is race-themed. Their burger was good, but not the reason I'd stop at AVG. The reasons to visit are the other patrons and the service. Everyone is drinking and friendly, just trying to have a good time. I'd definitely recommend you stop by if you're in the Speedway area. read more

Nothing but positive things to say about this place. We came here for a work party and the staff did a nice job setting up a large table for all of us to sit together. The food was phenomenal!!!! Tito made this non-menu item, Venezuelan chicken, and I could not get enough of it! I went back for 2nds and 3rds over dessert. The drinks here are cheap and strong. Also, on Fridays they have karaoke which was a good time. My favorite thing about this bar, which is what I also saw in most of the reviews, was how nice the staff is!!! One of the staff was so drunk and aggressive it was off-putting to us, and when he recognized this, he called us out to the entire bar for us "not getting his jokes." We sat at the bar and asked if the kitchen was still open while he tried to sip some water and spilled it all over himself. He laughed in my face and asked if I was serious or crazy (it was about 11pm), then starting shouting for his mom in the back room. We got up to leave and he again yelled at us from across the bar about not getting his jokes. I explained to him that he told us not to get the food, and we were hungry, so I was taking his advice and we were leaving. They seem like they treat their regulars very well considering the high marks from other reviews, but our experience with the belligerently wasted staff member was not that. read more

I reached out to the bar via Facebook to see if they could accommodate a group of 20-30 hungry and thirsty people after a trail run. They responded back quickly that they could. I popped in about a week in advance just to check the place out, and the team was wonderful in working with me to handle what we needed, even without a solid headcount and just a rough estimate on what time we'd actually make it. They communicated throughout the day so they'd be prepared for the rush. The night we showed up, they were ready for us, all hands on deck. They got us all fed and got our beers poured. They have large tables and seating around the bar, and there was karaoke, which is a fan favorite amongst our group. All-in-all, they took excellent care of us and reached out the following day to make sure everything went well. The food was great - and not just for bar food. I'd eat here if I wasn't drinking. The prices were more than fair. And even though we bombarded the kitchen with 25 orders, the food came out timely and hot. What a great spot! Thank you for doing such an awesome job. read more

Walking up to the pub I wasn't sure what to expect but this place definitely exceeded my expectations! It's a small "divey" bar with lots of tvs on the walls for sports and when I came it was kind of empty. However, the bartender Teresa was phenomenal! She took the time to talk to me and learn my name which is actually quite rare now in bartenders. The beer is cheap and cold which is always good. But the food... totally unexpected how great the food was! I got the AVG BURGER with fries and it was absolutely delicious. The burger was big and juicy and the fries have a Parmesan sauce on them which was really tasty! The best part is the delicious burger and fries was $6.50! I'm in town for a month and will definitely be returning! read more

This is a hole in the wall neighborly kind of bar. They have dart tornaments here. They have two dart boards and lots of darts to choose from. Customer service is friendly. One of the bartenders seem to think my boyfriend and I are cops. Funny! Little does he know I'm a Yelper! (that can dress) LOL It's very laid back here, and I always come in looking my best, but hey that's me! They have an outdoor patio area with lots of seating. What I love about this place is their Bloody mary's. Mmmmm They are so good, thick and spicy (how I like 'em) Sometimes they are $2.50 and sometimes they are $3. This place is as good as it gets. This is not your average pub, folks. I happened to be visiting Indianapolis from Los Angeles so I am very picky when it comes to places I like to go out and eat (yes thats the LA snob in me). This is an extraordinary neighborhood bar with an amazing vibe, great staff, and a great crowd. The best part, however, hands down was the FOOD. We had the pork tenderloin and a really unique and tasty variation of a cuban sandwich. The crostinis are also a "must have" - had a blast playing darts and singing Karaoke in this amazing little place. You need to try the food if nothing else - simply amazing. read more

The Average Pub has quickly become my favorite spot in Indy. The drinks are affordable and they have a wide selection. What really sets this place apart from everywhere else is the food. The food is so good. The Cuban sandwich is literally the best I've ever had. The inside-out sandwich and the green flag sandwich are also amazing. Their nachos are addicting and are piled high with ingredients. Their burgers are also some of the best in the city. Everything on their menu is prepared to order and made with fresh ingredients. I'm so thankful for discovering this place. I now routinely order take out on my way home from work and also stop in for drinks on the weekends.
