Sausage and Pepperoni personal pizza.
Richard P.

I was wrapping up an appointment at Franciscan's campus and figured it was an ideal time to try a new restaurant on Indy's southside. It was nearing the dinner hour, though it was definitely a touch early. After considering my options, I decided to visit That Place Bar & Grill, a South Emerson establishment at the end of a strip center that is the true definition of a bar and grill. They have 2 accessible spots on the side of their building along with a rather nice curb cut. The front door is a two-door entry. The door is a little heavy, however, it's not bad. I had the door about halfway open when a customer started to rush over and help out. As you enter, the bar is in the center of the restaurant. To the right are the tables along with a stage for live music. To the left, they have taller tables, some dart boards, some pool tables, and other games. As my good friend Rick G. has noted about this place - it's definitely loud. There weren't really that many customers in the place and I was amazed how much the voices carried. Almost all the customers were sitting at the bar with a couple folks at tables (including me). There seemed to be only one person working when I arrived - again, it was right at the end of the day/lunch shift but close to evening. It took me a few minutes to be noticed, but when I was service was top-notch. I always appreciate when a bar doesn't flinch when I order iced tea. I contemplated a beer, after all I'd just gotten done with a doctor and could have used a drink, but I decided to behave. They had a lunch special of a two-topping personal pizza with a side salad for $7.99. I assumed I couldn't get it, but pizza sounded good and I started to order a pizza. The bartender, Dave, let me order the special and I was just delighted. The salad came out first - it was your ordinary side salad, though I was pleased they had Thousand Island dressing. It was good, though certainly nothing extraordinary. The pizza came out - it's a 7" pizza cut into 4 slices. I ordered sausage and pepperoni as toppings. It was a fairly typical bar pizza, though I really enjoyed it and it definitely hit the spot. I also appreciated that I got my always desired refill. Dave really had to go out of his way with me since most people were sitting at the bar. I appreciated his service and enthusiasm. It was a mostly older crowd. They were friendly and they were obviously familiar with one another. That Place definitely has a feel for a place that draws regulars. My entire bill came in at just over $11. I'm definitely fine with that. The meal was good, the service was solid, and the atmosphere was comfortable even with the loud volume. I will no doubt go back since I appear to have reached that age when going to doctors is becoming a regular thing.

Hamburger, double patty with cheddar cheese and fries.

This sports bar is LARGE with lots of TVs. Most seats are bar height, but I chose a table with regular height seats. It took a while to get the lone waitress' attention, but she was attentive after that. I ordered the Build Your Own Burger and asked for cheddar cheese, blue cheese crumbles, lettuce, tomato, pickle, ketchup and mustard, fries on the side, and also a fountain drink. I was told they no longer offered blue cheese crumbles and was offered blue cheese dressing instead, The waitress shortly brought my meal and it all looked good. The blue cheese dressing, lettuce, tomato and pickle were all on the side as I asked. The fries were hot and tasty, but unsalted (OK with me). I opened the burger and found 2 patties smashed with no bun layer between. The burger patties were disappointing in that they were not heat seared with crispy edges. They were merely cooked. I tried spreading some of the blue cheese dressing on the bun, along with ketchup and mustard and a bit of salt and pepper. I took a few bites and found it very tasty, but could not help wonder how much better it would be with a middle bun layer and crispy smashed burger patties. As I kind of expected, the blue cheese dressing then dripped out of the bun and started to make a mess. Note to self... do not use blue cheese dressing on a hot burger again. Blue cheese crumbles would have been just fine, but they no longer have them. So all and all, some ups and downs. I might order the burger again... I'm just sorry that they could have upped their game just a little and had a really great burger.

So far so good !

Lots of dart boards, TV's everywhere, pull tabs, ID check at the door is a great idea. The bar staff are pretty ‍and friendly. The karaoke folks were fun and the atmosphere was welcoming. The mushrooms and pizza are yummy!!! I'll be back!

Went there on a Wednesday evening trying to find a place with pool, darts and some drinks. Not many people there at all but the beer was cold we had a pretty good time there.

When my wife walks into a sports bar and immediately says she likes it, That Place is going to get a good review. She thought that it was spacious, not cramped. It was clean, not dingy. It didn't smell like some old dive bar. She notices those things more than I do. They also have lunch specials which she took advantage of getting the Taco Bowl. No shell outside, just frito type crunchies underneath. The flavor wasn't spectacular, but satisfying. The portion was plenty for a lunch without her having to get a to go box. I like paying for what you eat at the restaurant without having to eat leftovers to get your money's worth. I went with the house special sandwich: "That Sandwich". It's made with a German Bologna, grilled onions, pepperjack cheese, and sweet pickles on grilled marbled rye. If you like Reuben sandwiches, then you will probably like this. There are lots of similar flavors here that work really well together. I would definitely recommend it. The sandwich comes with house made crinkle chips that were large and crisp; maybe just a tad over cooked and they would definitely have benefited from salt being added when they were finished cooking. The place supposedly gets busy in the evenings and weekends with live music added. For lunch, it was relatively quiet with all the televisions on mute. Service was okay since the bartender had to run the whole front end by herself. So, she made it over when she could and kept a pleasant disposition despite the lack of help. Review #2706

Anytime management takes time you respond to a review, and takes accountability, I think it deserves recognizing. The manager set up a 10% off food orders discount for Yelpers that check-in at their location; and he addressed my issues that I had concerning the staff being aware of the promotional. I respect that and it says a lot about the establishment. As I told management, I will be back. I'm impressed and it has a lot to offer that I did not get a chance to partake in. Kudos to That Place for offering Yelpers a discount to try them out. When you click "check-in" the promo will pop up on your screen and all you have to do is show it to your wait staff or bartender.

We sat on the heated patio and it was so nice and warm. We split the huge Bavarian pretzel for an appetizer. I've had this before at the Castleton location and it was as good as I remember. Both the nacho cheese raspberry wasabi mustard are good too. The snack size boneless wings are enough for a meal for sure. I went with the Hermaican flavor. They smelled so good. There wasn't a lot of spice so I think I prefer the No-Way and Three mile Island sauces I've had in the past. I also would've liked more celery and carrots but that's just a personal preference and most people are probably more than ok with just a veggie garnish. My brother had the tenderloin and my mom had the burger. They both enjoyed them. There are lots of tv's everywhere you look, prefect for sports. This time around the Winter Olympics were on. Our server was friendly and talkative and checked on us often.

It's definitely not a great set up for a band (too small, feel like you are sitting on the speakers, reverb) - so if you want conversation, this wouldn't be the place for you on Fridays. The seltzer selection was limited, but most people show up for the beers so not a big deal. The food has never disappointed. I tried the new Naki Burger and it was delicious! Definitely recommend trying it if you like the hermanaki style profile.

Our waitress came by and we ordered a beer and an iced tea. I ordered an unsweetened iced tea which I did not drink, it was not plain unsweetened tea. Seemed like it had a lot of artificial lemon in it, not sure, but I know I did not like it. The hubby had a Corona and our friend had a pitcher of beer. We perused the menus and it did take a good while for the waitress to come back and take the order. The hubby ordered a hamburger and fries and our friend had the buffalo chicken wrap and I ordered the twice baked tater skins. The husband said his fries were cold and the burger looked like a frozen patty as it was perfectly formed and it was just ok. I may have ordered the wrong dish myself as I did not care for the potato cheese mixture that was inside so I ended up stripping all the insides out and just ate the skins themselves. Husband had to flag down the waitress to get the bill and keep in mind that they were not busy. It is a typical bar atmosphere in here with TVs all around the perimeter. We were sitting at a high-top table but they had both low and high.

It is overwhelming at first for anyone who has noise sensitivity and sensory issues, but eventually you can somewhat get used to it. My daughter bought an upgraded game card for an hour and 1/2 of game 'unlimited' game play. The caveat was that we could only play the blue games. The games lagged a bit when they were activated. I think for the amount of money you can drop in that place, game cards should be open and unlimited to all of the games. The place was pretty busy so it looks like they're making money and they're not hurting. Part of the game card deal is that you get an appetizer as part of the deal. If you pay a bit extra you can upgrade to getting one entrée. We sat down at the restaurant and ate, and the food was OK. We had a chicken fettuccine meal and some fries. The amount that you get is average for the price and I would give it a 7 on a 10 scale for quality and flavor. It was served warm, but not quite hot enough. The staff and service was attentive and friendly and accommodating. It appeared that they were more than well staffed because they had quite a few employees working especially in the restaurant bar area. They could've used some more people over at the ticket redemption section. There was a line that was backed up for people redeeming their tickets or points. I would go back and hang out there, I just wish it wasn't so pricey. It would also be cool if they could incorporate more varied games. Pinball comes to mind as one option. It's one of those places that you just go to once in awhile if you can afford it. I didn't look into the party option or price point.
