For my Wife's Birthday this past November, we booked our first trip to Paso Robles. To be perfectly honest... I don't know why, but I always thought that Paso Robles or "Paso" as it's referred to, was some Podunk town that just wasn't worth stopping for. Yeah, I've passed it so many times while traveling North on "THE 101" or simply "101" as they refer to it in NorCal.... ;) (IYKYK) And all those times I've passed through, I've never once thought about pulling off the freeway to see what Paso was all about. Well, just like Julia Robert's character said in Pretty Woman while shopping on Rodeo Drive.... "Big Mistake. Big. HUGE!" Yeah, just like that sales clerk in Pretty Woman I too made a HUGE mistake! Plot Twist: I am the Good Looking Not Quite the Silver Fox Richard Gere of this story. =) ----So let's break down Paso & The Ava Hotel---- For my wife's Birthday Weekend, we made reservations at... The Ava Hotel Paso Robles. Mind you, we left mid-day from our home and by the time we arrived to Paso and pulled into the Hotel parking lot, it was already dark, but right away I could tell that the Hotel my wife booked us was Top Notch. First Impression: Sheesh, my wife sure knows how to spoil herself for HER Birthday weekend. Haha. Once parked, I had my wife and 3 girls head into the lobby out of the cold while I lugged what felt like 12 suitcases... We were only there for three nights; do you really need a suit case just for your change of shoes?? Gotta love Girls... Plot twist: The suitcase with the extra shoes.... WAS MINE!!!!!! Jk, maybe, not really, I'll never tell... =) Upon checking in, I immediately noticed how Great the staff was; Kind, Welcoming and from the looks of the place, even at night, I just knew we were going to enjoy our weekend stay here. ----The Room---- Everything you'd expect, but More! We had 2 comfy Queens, a large screen TV, a mini fridge, a clean bathroom and a Great standalone shower! Being that this hotel is Brand New, everything was clean and felt nearly unused which really made for an enjoyable stay. The next morning, my wife's actual Birthday, we got dressed, headed downstairs and celebrated with a Birthday Mimosa from their Lobby Bar. It was the perfect start to our day and to my wife's Special Day From there we headed out to explore Downtown Paso Robles which BTW, The Ava Hotel is what I would call the start of the Downtown area so it's literally the PERFECT place to stay if you, yourself come to Paso Robles one day. And to those still with us, Remember earlier when I said I made a "Big Mistake. Big. Huge!" By simply thinking that Paso Robles was some Podunk, no-nothin town that wasn't worth exiting the freeway for?? Well, I'll be the 1st to admit. I was wrong!!! Paso is one of my new favorite Central Coast towns that I can't wait to come back to. The fun little shops, the great eateries, Wine, more Wine, Did I mention there's Wine? Yeah, loads and loads of world-renowned wineries specializing in French Reds, but they've got whites too so don't stress. Not a wine person? More of a beer drinker? Paso's Got You!! Come check out Firestone Walker Brewing Co., home of the "805" beer; the regions Phone Area Code. Yeah, drink local baby!! So after enjoying breakfast at the Cowgirl Cafe (Epic Review coming soon), we went to the downtown park at let our kids play with the locals. We then hit several of the eclectic shops, including a local bookstore where my wife was like a kid in a candy store and The Spice of Life Tea Shop which I fell in love with (reviews of everywhere we went NEXT, so stay tuned) and finally made our way back to The Ava to take a break and rest our pups (our feet). Upon walking back to The Ava Hotel, I couldn't help but be in Awe of this well manicured, architecturally forward, beautifully designed building. To be honest, It looks and it feels more like a Resort and I felt so spoiled to be apart of its beginning days and I'm proud to give it the 5 stars it deserves. So... What have we learned?? Step 1: Book a room at the Ava Hotel. Step 2: Put your wife's name on the luggage tag of your suitcase for the extra shoes you really brought. We were very impressed with how this hotel looked and how central it was to downtown, but after staying here two nights, the downsides slowly revealed themselves. At check in, there were absolutely no perks for anyone who booked via Amex Platinum. For a hotel that looks brand new, there was no care done to the build. I can't remember the last time I heard an upstairs and next door neighbors in a hotel, let alone one this new. You'll hear every single stomp and slam in your room. You get a daily food/bev credit, but somehow the one cafe runs out of smoothies at 10am? Pet friendly and they'll charge you $75 to have one stay, but there isn't even a grass patch nearby. It was great being able to walk 5 mins down the street to the heart of downtown, but I'd likely look around before coming back. It looks nice, but there is a ton to be worked on still. read more

The room was clean, quiet, and on the smaller side, which suited our needs well. The bathroom was decent, though the shower was only average. The pool area could use more shade, and when we tried to purchase drinks from the nearby rooftop restaurant, we were told it was closed for a private event. Fortunately, a server later came to the pool and took our drink order. One nice surprise was that we didn't have to pay for hotel parking, as there was plenty of free street parking available right outside the property. The location was excellent--just around the corner from the town square, where many of the area's best shops and restaurants are located. While we're not certain we would stay here again, we enjoyed our one-night stay last week and had an overall pleasant experience. read more

I have stayed at many hotels in the Paseo Robles area over the years and was looking forward to giving this place a try. Upon arrival I parked on a side of the hotel, where there were several open street parking spaces right near, what appeared to be, the entrance door. I walked in with my luggage and asked if this was the proper location to park and was told sure, it was free. I checked in and was given the keys. As we walked down the hallway we noticed that it was heavliy sented with an artifical fragrance that was overpowering. The room was of the new type, a box with the cabinets and table bolted to the wall, not built in. It was of average size, not a suite. I noticed, even for $400 per night, there were no robes provided and only on luggage rack. I called the front desk and was told there were no robes, and they would send over another luggage rack. We waited about an hour then decided to go out to dinner. when we came back, about 2 hours later the rack was leaning against the door. I went to the front desk and asked where I might be able to get coffee and the staff of three all looked at each other and said they did not have any coffee, then once person said they had it at the bar upstairs. I went up and was told they don't have any coffee. Overall it just seemed disogranized. There are a lot of other locations I have stayed and will go back to them. read more

This was a nice newer hotel in Paso Robles. It was convenient to the town and we enjoyed walking and browsing nearby shops during our visit. Self-parking was available in their private lot for a fee, but we found unlimited street parking right in front of the hotel every day. We felt safe since the police department was across the street. The lobby was spacious with many modern seating areas. Breakfast and lunch could be ordered via their walk-up counter. We reserved a room with a king bed and it was pretty small. There were only 2 drawers for clothing in a tiny closet. Bathroom had a single sink and a large shower. One positive was the very comfortable mattress. A shallow salt-water pool and fitness center were located on the second floor. Bicycles were available on the ground floor too. Overall, we enjoyed staying at this hotel and would return again. read more

Beautiful, clean, new. This was the perfect spot for us for a long weekend of wine tasting. Our room was spacious for the two of us and I liked the aesthetic. The pool looked great but I wish that they had a hot tub. This hotel was also perfectly located near town and walking distance to all the restaurants. Perfect stay. read more

A great modern hotel in Paso that offers a cool respite from the summer heat. The staff are incredibly friendly, and eager to please. We really enjoyed relaxing in the lobby and around the pool. Street parking in front of the hotel is free, which was a nice surprise. It's only a few blocks from the center of town, and we would definitely stay again. read more

4 stars for location, 3.5 stars for the actual hotel Well appointed newish hotel very close to the town square. Currently best overall choice unless you're choosing a VRBO. Rooms themselves are on the small side but you're probably not in your room much. The bed is comfortable with solid products in the bathroom. Points for a steamer instead of an iron. Small complaints: * the bathroom is quite small. Almost impossible to have two people in there at the same time * the lighting is poor -- shaving and makeup is challenging * the doors slam easily; we heard several in the early morning hours * it's a dog friendly hotel so don't be surprised if you hear barking There are several nice spaces throughout the hotel including a outdoor terrace on the second floor (oddly called the rooftop) We've found all the workers to be very friendly. read more

The Ava Hotel is a new boutique Hilton-branded hotel that recently opened in the heart of downtown Paso Robles. It opened in August 2025 and is minutes away from the downtown city park and all that Paso Robles has to offer. You can either do self parking for $20/night or valet parking for $30. There is also free street parking if you can find a spot. There is no EV parking although there are many within a short distance from the hotel. Our room was on the top floor (4th) and the interior was unsurprisingly modern and new; it was cozy and comforting. One thing is that the Amtrak train runs right by the hotel so you might hear it if your room faces that side; however during the night we didn't hear it. The hotel has two upscale restaurants (EMRE and Esperanza), a rooftop pool and bar/lounge, and a hotel bar on the lobby that also doubles as a coffee shop during the day (Pine Street Bistro). The hotel also has a fitness center, meeting spaces, and pet-friendly rooms. The day that we checked in there was live music in the lobby as well as complimentary wine tasting. I'm not sure if it's because the hotel has opened recently but we received a $10 credit per night that could be used at the coffee shop or the restaurant which was a nice bonus. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and really liked that it was so conveniently located. read more

The hotel location is a block to Downtown City Park and a short walk to some of the best restaurants in Paso Robles. Hotel suites are pleasantly decorated with wood floors in the living/dining space and cozy carpet in the bedroom area. The bathroom is spacious and although there's only one sink in the master bedroom, there's a good amount of space on both sides of the sink. Great lighting throughout the suite. Plenty of closet space and two luggage racks (thank you). Nespresso machine in the room is convenient. Wish they had real half-and-half though instead of the Carnation creamers. The housekeeping service is practically perfect. The facial soap was removed without being replaced but we had an extra water closet so was able to take the soap from there. Ran out of facial tissue - not sure why a spare box was unavailable and didn't bother calling for an extra box. At least there was a spare toilet paper roll. Plenty of towels though - and this was greatly appreciated. The Esperanza restaurant on the second floor has a great rooftop bar and I can envision how fun that space is during warmer weather since the bar is adjacent to the pool area. During the wintertime visit, it was great to see space heaters for this open space, outdoor dining area but too cold in December to dine without a space heater. There weren't enough but maybe those are coming. The hotel recently opened. For the bistro on the ground floor - Ava Hotel should consider (a) window coverings to cover the harsh morning sun, (b) turning down the air conditioning so there isn't a draft on guests dining in the few comfortable table seating spaces available, (c) add more tables instead of the coffee table spaces (tables are too low to eat a meal while comfortably seated), (d) relocate the printed menus so guests aren't gathered in front of the register to grab a menu to place their order and (e) please reconsider asking for a tip BEFORE being seated and BEFORE dining. Would come back because it's a well-appointed hotel that is conveniently located in Paso Robles. read more

If you've loved their Pismo Beach location, the Paso Robles Ava Hotel absolutely lives up to the hype--and then some. Having stayed at both, I really appreciate how each property has its own personality. The Pismo spot wins for location alone, sitting right in front of the iconic pier with those unbeatable ocean views. But the Paso Robles location brings a completely different kind of charm--tucked right within walking distance of all the local shops, tasting rooms, and downtown gems. We upgraded to a suite this time, and it was 100% worth it. The private patio was such a standout feature, opening directly to the pool area--perfect for a relaxed morning coffee or an easy evening dip. Even better, it had direct access to one of their on-site restaurants, which made everything feel seamless and a little extra indulgent. The overall vibe is fun, stylish, and thoughtfully designed without trying too hard. You can tell they put effort into creating an experience, not just a place to sleep. Between the prime location, unique room features, and consistent quality across both properties, this boutique hotel brand has officially won me over. I'll definitely be back--whether it's beachside or wine country. read more

The Ava is a brand new property located just a few blocks from the Paso Robles town square, making it an ideal location for exploring the restaurants, tasting rooms, and shops downtown. The hotel features a beautiful, modern design with a large open lobby that immediately makes an impression. The lobby includes a full bar, comfortable seating areas both inside and outside, and a lounge space that creates a relaxed but upscale atmosphere. One of the highlights is the rooftop bar and restaurant, which offers a great spot to unwind after a day of wine tasting. Most nights the hotel also offers complimentary wine tastings in the lobby and live music, which adds a great Paso Robles touch to the overall experience. Another big advantage is the ample parking, which can sometimes be difficult to find near downtown. The rooms are very clean and spacious. Breakfast was decent yet the options appeared limited. The burgers on the second floor rooftop bar area were excellent. Self-parking was very convenient and close to the front lobby. Beautiful hotel and conveniently located by the town green! We love the walking distance to the town center. We loved our stay here; well kept facility. The staff were approachable and friendly. Sean, was a nice welcome after a long drive. He was polite and friendly; he greeted all guests equally and was eager to help. We love how he remained jovial despite seeing that there was a sudden influx of guests. When we asked him about the parking situation, especially with the limited disabled spots, he gladly walked with us instead of just barking out instructions. He entertained our small talk while he was checking us in; he gave us nice little info about Paso and gave us great suggestions for couples and for families with kids. Moreover, my husband and I love to stay in any of Hilton's Curio and Tapestry collections. We love how they design every hotel with its own unique feel based on the local characteristics and history of where they're located; and The Ava did not disappoint. Every space and corner was well thought of, from the moment you enter in their beautiful lobby up to our room. Also, we love their bar and lounge areas. My husband and I like to check out our hotel's bar to finish off our night. We enjoy taking our time sitting there enjoying the fireplace and mingling with other hotel guests who are also enjoying their night cap. We stayed at the AVA Hotel, which apparently just opened a few weeks before our visit -- our Uber driver even mentioned it's the new "hot spot," especially because of the rooftop restaurant. We got to try the rooftop for dinner, and it was really cute! We sat by the fire, which was nice, though the seating was incredibly uncomfortable -- even for just grabbing a drink. The service was great; everyone was friendly and attentive. I actually enjoyed the coffee shop in the lounge even more -- plenty of comfy seating and the same kind service. Overall, it's a stylish new spot with lots of potential. Hopefully it continues to thrive as they settle in! read more

We stayed at this hotel for just one night to celebrate our honeymoon, and it was such a lovely experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt very welcomed. The woman at the front desk who checked us in (I believe her name was Annabelle, hope I'm remembering it correctly) was incredibly kind and warm. She congratulated us on our honeymoon and even surprised us with a room upgrade, which truly made our stay feel special. The hotel itself was beautiful: clean, stylish, and very well maintained. Even though our stay was short, we really enjoyed the atmosphere and comfort. We checked in on January 11 around 4 PM, and everything about the experience was smooth and pleasant. Really cute spot at first glance but has serious flaws. Based on two visits and one more to come. -first visit: glass on the pool deck. My husband stepped on a shard of glass and was bleeding. Staff did nothing. Had to find towels and they compensated nothing (we were having lunch). That was a little surprising considering. - staff at Esperanza is really friendly but slow and inattentive. Food is mid. And they cater to outside guests moreso then hotel it feels. -bathroom at pool shut down (it's been 3 weeks since our last stay and it's still closed) and reeks of sewage on pool deck. Really gross in the heat. Why is this not getting fixed? -really poor layout at pool. Because the bathroom is closed, you have to walk outside locked gate to get to one and the stalls are pitch black. Having a room that opens out to pool is also pretty useless because they only have one access gate and it's a walk even though our room is so close to pool I could touch it. Dumb. -no jacuzzi Otherwise the hotel itself is pretty cute. Nice rooms. Just managed poorly. Pls get it together. read more

This place is pretty great. Comfy rooms, comfier beds, great service, and you won't find a better location to explore Paso. Not much else to say...Although the electric plugs are ridiculously difficult. All good though - you can just plug into the couch. read more

I have heard a lot mixed reviews on the upstairs bar, so we decided to check it out ourselves. It is a beautiful bar area and it was pretty busy. We were met right away and seated with menus and water. So far, so good. And then the first drinks came out. The AVA Frothy Margarita was terrible. Not in a Margarita glass, no salt on the rim and the drink itself was just not good. We ordered a couple of appetizers and decided to order Gin and Tonics with house gin. The house gin was just awful. I sent mine back and ordered Bombay. The Guacamole and chips were ok. Bagged chips from Taco Works; big serving of Guacamole, but it wasn't anything to write home about. The Carnitas fries were very good. They still haven't been open very long, so they need to have the Bar Manager review some of their bar options. The only reason I didn't give them 2stars was because of the great service we had from Kaity. She was so friendly. We questioned her as to why our bar bill said $14 for Gin and then $2 for the tonic. Weird! How about just a $16 G&T? Happy Hour starts at 5:30!!! What???? That's getting close to dinner hour. We thought we were there for Happy Hour. I guess we should have asked. I probably won't go back.....or maybe next year. read more

Called the hotel Ava and requested a bottle of wine be sent to my daughter and son in laws room to surprise them. Told the clerk what to write in the note. They brought the wine with no note. My daughter had no clue who had sent it. I called the hotel to complain about what had happened and they couldn't care less! I asked to speak to a manager. They said they were in a meeting. Called back the next day and they said a manager was unavailable. Both times I was told the manager would call me back. It's 9 days later and of course no call back. Horrible customer service and I will tell everyone I know to stay away from this hotel read more

I stayed at the Ava Hotel in Paso Robles for two nights for work and absolutely loved it. The hotel is spotless, the beds are incredibly comfortable, and the water pressure was amazing (which honestly matters more than people admit). They also have in room Nespresso verturo machines! The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful from start to finish, and the cheeseburger at the restaurant was hands-down one of the best I've had in a long time. The location is perfect too. We were able to walk everywhere easily. I can't wait to come back!! read more

We had a great stay at the Ava Hotel- the location is near the town square and the hotel is lovely. We enjoyed some awesome cocktails at the Esperanza rooftop bar as well as the carnitas fries (OMG). The rooms were quiet and comfortable. I'm picky about bedding and the Ava nailed it with their choices. We can't wait to go back! Next time we will come with friends and stay longer. read more

My husband and I stayed at The Ava Hotel in Paso Robles over the holiday weekend. We loved that it was conveniently located next to the square and has three restaurants attached to it, each with a very different feel. The lobby was beautifully decorated and the rooms felt clean and brand spanking new. We had a couple of memorable dinners, as well. For New Years, we went to ESME and enjoyed the most fabulous cocktails, delicious skewers, and super yummy pita bread and eggplant spread. The hummus was to die for - so creamy and delicious with some crunch from roasted chickpeas. Esperanza was also crazy good and had more of a Latin flavor, with awesome burritos, tacos, and margs. Unfortunately, it was raining, so didn't get to spend any time in the pool, but we visited the fitness center everyday and it was never too crowded and had the best water lol. #hottip. If you are traveling from SoCal up to NorCal or NorCal down to SoCal this is the perfect spot on the Central Coast. read more

We stayed two nights. We had a beautiful room. The staff we're all so gracious and helpful. The rooftop bar was lovely. They could work on the menu little bit, but all in all we were very happy with our stay and would not hesitate to return. PS lots of fun walking around downtown Paso Robles wine tasting. read more

Did a staycation here at this new hotel and I saw a lot of pictures online and let me tell you some of those pictures weren't even of that hotel. I was excited because it seemed like in the picture there was a big pool but all I saw when I stayed was a tiny pool that you can't even swim in.
