So why the downgrade? Well, the room wasn't as nice as last time. Wallpaper was peeling in the bathroom and there weren't any slippers this time. The staff was a mixed bag. Last year, everyone we encountered was super friendly. Smiles all around. This year, hit or miss. Morning staff didn't seem to be friendly. Their complimentary breakfast is a nice touch. It ends at 10am and then checkout is 11. There's enough offered to start your day. The pros outweigh the cons. 4 stars.

Mornings were cool and evenings warm but pleasant in August but day time was blazing hot. Checking in and out was smooth and easy. Our room was conveniently just across from the pool area, which is also where the ice machine resides. Room A/C worked very well, and it was just as comfortable as I remember back in December. The blackout window shade and the reading lights above the beds were particularly thoughtful accessories. Adelaide inn is well situated near the 101 and 46 highways which makes it super easy to go to wineries or downtown. Highly recommend!

The room was immaculately clean, stocked with amenities that mattered. The entire grounds were beautiful- we came when flowers and foliage were in bloom everywhere and it felt a bit tropical. The pool & spa area were both clean, making it really nice for lounging after a day of exploring. The koi pond was full of happy and colorful fish. Our room was right next to it so when our window was open we could hear the trickling waterfall. The picnic area was also simple and sweet. The customer service was the first thing we noticed- the person who checked us in was upbeat and cheerful and there was zero hassle getting our room key and also the run down of what was offered during our stay. When we returned for pool towels it was a new Inn attendant who was equally cheery and well spoken, alerting us to pool hours & how to return the towels. The inn is also perfectly located near the event center and dozens of businesses so if you need coffee, groceries, gas or a restaurant it's all right there. It's a short 1 minute drive to downtown, and the on ramp for nearby wineries is even closer. Perfect stay!

This was our second stay at The AVA Hotel, and I think that says a lot. We loved it the first time,…read moreand after this visit, I can easily see us staying here again whenever we're in Paso Robles. One of my favorite things about the hotel is the lobby. It's beautiful, modern and inviting with plenty of comfortable seating in the lobby , a fireplace and a gorgeous patio area just on the other side. There are little areas where you can sit and get some work done, relax with a drink or just hang out. I also believe they have live music on the patio on certain weekends, which makes the space even more inviting. After about a 3 1/2-hour drive this time, we decided we weren't going anywhere before getting something to eat, so we had lunch at Pine Street Bistro right in the lobby. We ordered the burger and fries, a salad with shrimp and fresh orange juice, and everything was really good. I love having a spot right downstairs where you can grab breakfast and coffee in the morning, have lunch during the day or come down for a drink later. The rooms are another reason I love this hotel. Everything feels new, fresh and thoughtfully designed. The rooms are modern and minimal without feeling cold, the beds are comfortable, and I especially love the bathroom design. It's just my style. But LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! This is probably one of the biggest reasons I would continue staying here. Once you're settled in, you can leave the car alone and walk. We walked to dinner, a speakeasy, tasting rooms, little shops and the General Store, and just wandered around discovering places along the way. There was even a farmers market nearby on Saturday. That's what I love about staying here. The hotel itself is beautiful, but you're also right in the middle of this charming little downtown where so much is within walking distance. Second stay down, and definitely not our last.

Beautiful Hotel, but Not a Five-Star Experience…read more We have always loved the charm, location, and intimate atmosphere of Hotel Cheval, which is why we not only chose to stay here but also recommended it to friends. Unfortunately, the price point suggests a true five-star experience, while the condition and maintenance of the hotel simply do not. During our stay, we experienced plumbing issues as well as problems with roof leaks. More concerning is that friends we recommended the hotel to also experienced plumbing problems during their stay. Their solution? They were handed a plunger. At a hotel charging luxury rates, that is simply not an acceptable response to a guest experiencing a plumbing problem. Hotel Cheval has so much going for it--the location is wonderful, the property is charming, and we genuinely wanted to continue loving it. But luxury is more than atmosphere and a premium room rate. It also means excellent maintenance, attention to detail, and service that resolves problems without making them the guest's responsibility. At this price point, the infrastructure and level of service need to match the promise. Right now, they don't. I hope management invests in the property because Hotel Cheval could absolutely live up to the experience its pricing suggests.

It was just a little more than we wanted to pay to crash out after a concert at the Vina Robles Amphitheatre. Our room turned out to be pretty killer. I booked a two room suite with a balcony. Full kitchen, marble countertops, living room, 65" TV, separate bedroom with a king bed and another nice TV and adjoining bathroom. Huge 9' high heavy doors. Our expectations were exceeded. Important Note: 1/9/26 This location is actively under remodel/ construction. I walked into the…read morefront lobby area and was immediately greeted by a lonely front desk to the left and huge pile of caution taped boxes being moved on the right. The walls are completely bare, stripped of paint and most of the decor, but penciled-in instructions of what SHOULD go on the wall is definitely still visible. I thought I had made a huge mistake from the minute I walked in. While I was told all amenities are still open and accessible during this time, I think it's important to set expectations. The outdoor fire pit sits directly to the right of the entrance and borders sidewalk... the neighboring view is of the parking lot. The "free breakfast" is nothing like you see on their website. There is no brightly lit room with cute kitchen themed decor... or places to sit. Rather, it is a set of 3-4 chaffing dishes, arranged on a folding table, next to a "coffee station" atop of a random cabinet haphazardly placed just outside the 2nd floor elevator doors. The highly recognizable pancake machine is legit for display only because of the two days I was here it was not functional... very disappointing. The "newly renovated rooms" looked nice... but that was truly where the buck stopped. Upon arrival, the neighboring room happened to slam the door at just the right time that a plastic covering popped off the wall and left exposed wires at eye level. Uhm what?! It is worth mentioning, that I booked a room with two queen beds. The beds are very tall and while comfortable, were horribly squeaky at the base. Even the slightest shift in the bed led to horrible squeaking from the boxspring. And to make matters worse, the walls in the room are extremely thin... and the front door is hollow core (Google it) so you can hear EVERYTHING. Restful sleep? Think again. And unfortunately, it doesn't end there. The bathroom vent fan in our room didn't work so if you take a hot shower, it immediately turns into an unexpected steam room. (Not just the bathroom, the WHOLE room. No joke. Check the windows and you'll see what I mean!) If you move the mixer valve just a little too far away from the hottest setting? Prepare for an instant ice shower. There was seemingly, no in-between. And the best part, If you are sitting on the toilet, be careful if someone else tries to open the door because your kneecaps are doomed. Long story short... my family has officially barred me from making any hotel reservations in the future as a result of this stay, and honestly... I can't blame them. This was one of the toughest hotel experiences I've had in a long time.

This Holiday Inn Express consists of two separated buildings, with the second building being worked on during our stay. Despite the construction, we did not experience any interruptions. Actually the unpainted walls and some leftover tools were the only indication there was something going on. The free breakfast is in the main building and standard HIE: they had pancakes, bacon, and sausages on top of usual continental options. And a fancy, automated coffee machine. The kitchen staff was working hard to get everything topped off as soon as an item started to get low. I also used the gym, which is located next to the indoor pool and it was good for a quick workout: some treadmills, elypticals, free weights. The check-in and check-out were quick and easy and I consider the price point a good value. We had a nice time and if going to Paso next time, I'll defiently keep HIE in mind.

It's walking distance to the main part of downtown and there is a pizza and a Mexican restaurant across the street. My only real gripe is how hard they're pushing guests to buy their snacks and wine-- the room has not one but two pieces of furniture loaded with premixed cocktails, a bottle of wine, snacks, and bottled mineral water. They don't allow "outside food" in common areas, whose definition was never clear to me- does it include the patios in front of the rooms? So I felt like a criminal bringing in takeout for dinner, but there is no food onnthe premises other than various kinds of overpriced chips and cookies. They don't let you bring outside wine in common areas, either, which might have something to do with licensing or might just be trying to make you buy their wine. So we waited until it was dark and no one was around to enjoy our outside wine on the patio. But we didn't get in trouble so maybe it was ok. They're also really promoting their bath products, for sale in their little gift shop, along with membership in their hotel chain for "rewards." The website says pet friendly and indeed, dogs are allowed in all rooms-- $50 each is a little steep for pet charge though. The website says there's something for pets in the room but there was none in our room, even though we booked in advance. I don't really care that much but if they say it, they should do it. There were also some rich women guests who looked at me like I was a homeless person or space alien, but other guests I met in the breakfast room were normal and friendly. But basically, it's a hotel oriented toward well-off "classy" wine tourists, and if you're not one of those, you might feel a little awkward here. (I did.) But it's a lovely, comfortable little room with charming grounds, probably nice for a romantic getaway without your dogs.

While the building is historic it's been recently renovated and the rooms are modern and well equipped. We chose a Garden King Room. There is a Nespresso type coffee maker in the room and a tea kettle. Also, a couple bottles of drinking water per day are provided. Connected to the hotel is the wonderful Cattlemen's Bar which is beautifully renovated and has a nice local wine list and makes creative cocktails. There's also a breakfast restaurant which I went to for take-out coffee (the coffee maker in the room made weak coffee). Also, a steakhouse which we did not visit but is also recently renovated and looks nice. Service at the hotel was professional and friendly. The only downside of the hotel is that we were so busy with activities that we did not get to take full advantage of the hotel offerings.

The instructions posted on the wall do not match the buttons on the remote. We ended up doing a web search for the unit's instruction manual. That's pretty sad. These things should be more intuitive. We liked having a fridge and microwave in the room. The downside to our room was that it was on the 2nd floor and we had to carry our things up the stairs since there was no elevator. Do ask for a ground floor if you want to avoid walking up stairs. I became more mindful of these details in recent years when husband suffered from shortness of breath and had a challenging time doing stairs. The property looks nice with several different buildings surrounding a center common grassy lawn area with curved walkways & mini bridge next to their herb garden and koi pond. There are little fish and some ginormous ones in their koi pond. There is also a pool at the rear of the property. It was easy to find parking near our room. The grounds look lovely from your room or from a distance. But we noticed dog poop on the grass when we wanted to walk over to one of the sofas in the grassy area. BE CAREFUL when walking on the grassy parts. People who bring pets here are not mindful about cleaning up after their pets. This is in stark contrast to our stay at Cambria Shores Inn during the previous days (a pet friendly hotel with lots of little dogs staying and no dog poop messes in the outdoor common areas). I guess the pet owners who stay at Cambria Shores Inn are more respectful than the ones who stay here at Paso Robles Inn. Another thing about the outdoor seating is that they look great from a distance, but their uncleanliness can be seen once you walk closer. They were dirty and there was even one set of sofas that had poop on them. It's as if the hotel staff does not go around and wipe the cushions down each day (which I have seen hotel staff do at other hotels and it truly makes a difference). It looks like a nice place to sit & relax outside, but doesn't really work out that way in practice. Hotel is conveniently located near shops & restaurants. The one challenge is crossing Spring St. which is way busier than I ever imagined it to be before booking a room here. LOL The downtown area is pleasant, and you don't need to drive anywhere unless you're visiting a nearby winery.
