Stayed here to be close to our daughters wedding venue.in Paso Robles, this one was one of the middle range motels in the area. Being a popular wine country destination the hotels could be a little pricey. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is older, however they have refurbished the rooms, the grounds were tidy and clean as well. Our beds were comfortable, everything was clean, had different little items available. Variety of toiletries, coffee, coco, extras. They also provided $5 off per person to the restaurant next to them. If you don't take advantage of the special they provide a goodie bag to take with you. Nice touch. Staff were all friendly and made you feel welcomed. They had bbq areas, workout room and pool, spa.

The rooms are very clean and have all you need for a relaxing stay!

I believe in these days of...well, you all know how it can be "out there" in the world.... It's important to bring positive attention and some well deserved praise as well to the Best Western Plus Black Oak hotel in SLO. I booked a room and requested an early check in and they are the only ones who have allowed me to do so. Other hotels scoff almost at even the mention of an early check in. The staff at Black oak were kind and understood my situation and never once even blinked when I made my requests. Thank you so much !! I will stay here anytime I am in San Luis Obispo!

There's no doubt that $140 per night is quite a deal for Central Coast lodging. Granted it's a Best Western, not the Madonna Inn, but Jamie W. and I don't need a working waterfall when I flush my toilet anyway. It's located on the busiest stretch of roadway in Paso Robles, which is saying a lot since the rest of the town feels pretty mellow. Our bargain nightly rate got us a clean King suite that felt pretty dated and tired as it was dominated by a muddy brown sofa and faded green carpet. There is a swimming pool, a moot point during the wintry weather we were experiencing. It all reminded me of my dad's road trips deep in the last century. However, if you want a place where you get fast access to 101, you could do worse. RELATED - Exploring California's Central Coast? Comfortable and convenient to the 101 and 46 highways. This BW+ offers a nicely appointed facility that is within short wqlking distance of several of the areas restaurants. Friendly front desk staff, were all professional and helpful. Checking in was only a couple minutes. A King room, right across from the pool and gym. Had all the amenities one expects while travels, the bed comfortable and the shower provided plenty of hot water and decent pressure in the morning. The room very clean and quite. A Heated pool and hot tub, with a comfortable outside interior courtyard area for you to sit and enjoy the day or evening. This is a nice BW+ with all the amenities you expect at a Best Western 4 Stars - Friendly staff, nice facilities and a convenient location in town 00788

The shower before we even stepped foot in it... had to put my hand in the last guest's soap scum to try and unclog the drain.. SO GROSS

STAY AWAY!!! This place is committing fraud! This is a cheap motel charging hotel prices. Our room smelled of cigarettes, the shower was clogged and hadn't been cleaned from the last person so the last guests' shampoo and soap scum was still all over the shower to the point where we couldn't even shower. There were stains all over the carpet and construction workers drinking in their trucks in the parking lot. Your door faces outside to the parking lot because THIS IS A CHEAP MOTEL but somehow had the audacity to charge us $320 a night. We wouldn't have agreed to stay here at that price knowing that this was a motel. They don't even have a lobby it's just a room the size of a closet where they give you a granola bar in the morning as breakfast. Since they don't have any food they offer $5 coupons to the diner next door .. as if $5 can buy you anything more than a coffee. The definition of a 3 star hotel online says they should have a kitchen onsite and additional amenities but this place doesn't even have that. They are committing fraud by posing as a 3 star hotel and trying to charge hotel prices. I asked management for a refund and if they felt it was acceptable that we couldn't even shower during our stay and according to our front desk girl she thought it was acceptable!!! To not be able to shower paying $320 a night!! Unbelievable!! Do yourself a favor and stay at the wineries nearby, they charge the same price as this dump but actually have decent management and amenities.

Since this is a Best Western Plus, my expectations were a bit higher. The staff were friendly, but our room was outdated and dirty. The microwave still had handprints all over it, the kitchen (microwave & fridge) was in the bathroom. There were dead insects, mirrors were dirty, fridge needed to be defrosted, etc. Our view was......wait we didn't have a view. I thought that being a Diamond member would have provided us with some type of upper tier, but I guess that I was wrong. The location of the hotel is a great spot, close to shopping, food and downtown.

There is nothing really wrong with this motel, but I feel it is definitely undeserving of the designation "Plus" within the Best Western chain. Here are my reasons why: First, the motel is basically a simple standard motel. I thought it is definitely in need of refurbishment, as the furniture in my room was dated and quite worn out. Second, they did not offer the usual self service breakfast that is typically found in the other motels within this chain. I received an email from them a couple of days prior to my arrival notifying me that I had a choice of a $5 credit at the adjacent diner, or I could have one of their "grab and go" breakfasts available in the lobby. I reviewed the menu at the diner, and based on the prices they were charging, the $5 credit would probably cover not much more than my tip. Also, I didn't want to go through all the time and hassle associated with a sit down waitress served breakfast. Therefore, I opted for the "grab and go" breakfast. It included a bottle of water, a small packaged muffin, a small apple, a stick of mozzarella cheese, a cereal bar and two candied mints. I would estimate the total value of this breakfast was probably somewhere between $1 and $1.50. In all, I felt the place was clean and comfortable. I just feel that it is undeserving of the "Plus" designation by Best Western.

Jazmine Tapia: The Definition of Exceptional Service…read more I recently stayed at the Hilton Curio AVA Hotel and had an experience that genuinely restored my faith in customer service. I mentioned to front desk receptionist Jazmine Tapia that I was hot and uncomfortable in my room -- just an offhand comment, truly. What happened next floored me. Jazmine took it upon herself to go to a nearby store -- on her own time, with her own money -- and bought me a fan so I could be more comfortable. No one asked her to do this. No manager directed it. She simply saw a guest in need and acted with pure, genuine kindness. In an era where going above and beyond feels increasingly rare, Jazmine didn't just exceed expectations -- she redefined them. And she did it with such warmth and grace that it made the gesture feel completely natural, like it was just who she is. Of course I reimbursed her and tipped her -- that was the least I could do -- but no amount of money captures how much that gesture meant. It turned what could have been an uncomfortable stay into a truly memorable one. Jazmine Tapia is the kind of person who makes a property shine. If you stay at the AVA Hotel, you are lucky to be welcomed by her. Hilton should be incredibly proud to have her on their team.

Self-parking was available in their private lot for a fee, but we found unlimited street parking right in front of the hotel every day. We felt safe since the police department was across the street. The lobby was spacious with many modern seating areas. Breakfast and lunch could be ordered via their walk-up counter. We reserved a room with a king bed and it was pretty small. There were only 2 drawers for clothing in a tiny closet. Bathroom had a single sink and a large shower. One positive was the very comfortable mattress. A shallow salt-water pool and fitness center were located on the second floor. Bicycles were available on the ground floor too. Overall, we enjoyed staying at this hotel and would return again.

From the outside, it's rather unassuming, but once you go in the front doors, the inner real beauty of this location is revealed. The courtyard is simply amazing, and like a bubble in space and time that offers a refuge from the outside world. In the evening the fireplaces are burning with hardwood every night and they offer fresh made s'mores to hotel guests. There's actually a s'mores menu. The whole environment is almost like something from a movie. They've also got a wonderful library that is tastefully appointed with many wonderful and interesting different books to read. It definitely invites you to sit down and snuggle by the fire with a good book. Such a cozy feeling! You can also select some candy for a snack. The rooms themselves are also beautiful and the bedding looks nice. Though I will say for me personally the pillows were really uncomfortable, and they had a rough spun duvet which smelled musty on the inside like it hadn't been washed in quite awhile. It looked and smelled like they were washing the sheets and the blanket but not the duvet itself. They also offer breakfast in the morning, but it's a little bit later than some other places so if you have to get an early start, then you probably won't be able to catch it. Overall I really enjoyed the stay and would say this experience is really good for the boutique traveler that is looking for a peaceful, unhurried trip.

This Holiday Inn Express consists of two separated buildings, with the second building being worked on during our stay. Despite the construction, we did not experience any interruptions. Actually the unpainted walls and some leftover tools were the only indication there was something going on. The free breakfast is in the main building and standard HIE: they had pancakes, bacon, and sausages on top of usual continental options. And a fancy, automated coffee machine. The kitchen staff was working hard to get everything topped off as soon as an item started to get low. I also used the gym, which is located next to the indoor pool and it was good for a quick workout: some treadmills, elypticals, free weights. The check-in and check-out were quick and easy and I consider the price point a good value. We had a nice time and if going to Paso next time, I'll defiently keep HIE in mind.

I walked into the…read morefront lobby area and was immediately greeted by a lonely front desk to the left and huge pile of caution taped boxes being moved on the right. The walls are completely bare, stripped of paint and most of the decor, but penciled-in instructions of what SHOULD go on the wall is definitely still visible. I thought I had made a huge mistake from the minute I walked in. While I was told all amenities are still open and accessible during this time, I think it's important to set expectations. The outdoor fire pit sits directly to the right of the entrance and borders sidewalk... the neighboring view is of the parking lot. The "free breakfast" is nothing like you see on their website. There is no brightly lit room with cute kitchen themed decor... or places to sit. Rather, it is a set of 3-4 chaffing dishes, arranged on a folding table, next to a "coffee station" atop of a random cabinet haphazardly placed just outside the 2nd floor elevator doors. The highly recognizable pancake machine is legit for display only because of the two days I was here it was not functional... very disappointing. The "newly renovated rooms" looked nice... but that was truly where the buck stopped. Upon arrival, the neighboring room happened to slam the door at just the right time that a plastic covering popped off the wall and left exposed wires at eye level. Uhm what?! It is worth mentioning, that I booked a room with two queen beds. The beds are very tall and while comfortable, were horribly squeaky at the base. Even the slightest shift in the bed led to horrible squeaking from the boxspring. And to make matters worse, the walls in the room are extremely thin... and the front door is hollow core (Google it) so you can hear EVERYTHING. Restful sleep? Think again. And unfortunately, it doesn't end there. The bathroom vent fan in our room didn't work so if you take a hot shower, it immediately turns into an unexpected steam room. (Not just the bathroom, the WHOLE room. No joke. Check the windows and you'll see what I mean!) If you move the mixer valve just a little too far away from the hottest setting? Prepare for an instant ice shower. There was seemingly, no in-between. And the best part, If you are sitting on the toilet, be careful if someone else tries to open the door because your kneecaps are doomed. Long story short... my family has officially barred me from making any hotel reservations in the future as a result of this stay, and honestly... I can't blame them. This was one of the toughest hotel experiences I've had in a long time.
