I'll preface my review by saying with these types of motel conversions they can be excellent, or just miss the mark, and that can be deeply personal. We stayed at another converted motel in Paso on our last visit (Farmhouse - which we loved) but we wanted to be a bit closer to the square so we decided to try Stables Inn. Now you do get exactly what it looks like in their photos - which is fine. But just the quality of everything isn't the best. The rooms are small and the bedding and finishes are just not great quality. The bathroom very tiny, no working exhaust fan and the room itself just had one tiny window so it just felt a bit claustrophobic for two people. The staff experience was a bit mixed and could use some polishing. The positives: You are walking distance to the square. There is an interior common area which is a nice lounge. The weather out was awful so we escaped and hung out in the lounge for a bit to get out of our room. They do have an outside common area as well but you're literally on the side of a main road on an 'island' in the middle of the parking lot. I am not sure even in good weather I'd feel comfortable sitting there. If being walking distance to the square is a priority, and you aren't spending much time in your room this might be fine for you. We ended up staying our third night at the Farmhouse Motel which is just a bit further down the road and couldn't recommend it more. Everything is so well done and priced very comparably. read more

The Stables Inn is a revamped motel that's been made into a trendy and modern place to stay. This "boutique hotel" is sparkly clean inside/out, and beautifully decorated! I love, love, love that they are pet-friendly too! We brought our Aussie along, and it was just a block away from the downtown area, so she loved walking over to the park and restaurants. We needed an early check-in, and the hotel staff were super accommodating. They made sure to have a room ready for us when we arrived. Everything from start to finish was amazing! 5-star service all the way! Unless you must drive all the way straight through to LA and you have a minute to take a more gentle route with a stop along the way, stop here. If Paso is your destination you may stop here as well, but certainly for sure without exception if it's a layover, stop here. The property and rooms are cute and clean, the staff super professional, helpful and friendly. The pillows are perfect and the in-room amenities what you need. Price point is unmatched and definitely ideal for an overnight. The inn is a short three blocks from the square and many dining options abound there. There's also a really delicious burger joint across the street and a deli a block over if you want a few of the 805 lagers to keep you company. And if you're stuck in the room for five hours on laptop calls and elect to have a burger first then all the 805 lager during you never get to walk to the fine dining spots and choose one last beer and the pillows instead. Great location and excellent staff. I had the pleasure of staying here because we were exploring the nearby vineyards and sensori Over mothers day weekend. They have a very light breakfast including oatmeal, a pastry cake, yogurt and coffee. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms were very clean. Don't forget to ask for the complementary s'more you can roast them over a few pits on site and it is a wonderful way to unwind with your friends , children or maybe meet some new people The front desk was very responsive and attentive. For example I needed an iron to prepare my outfit because one wasn't included in the room and they responded right away. Paso Robles is such a beautiful place and I am so happy with my stay at the stables inn. read more

Update: Management called me & agreed to issue a partial refund. $65 was returned. They asked why Indidnt call the on call number. I told them because I went by the office saw that it was closed. This hotel is amazing! It was absolutely adorable, boutique style. The staff was all very genuinely friendly and helpful. The design details were so nice, I actually was so impressed. The outdoor fire pit area, was so fun, we met lovely fellow travelers with dogs and started talking. I will be coming back and staying at this hotel whenever I am in the Paso Robles area. Had to find a place to stay last minute, it was late when we called but we were able to get a room no problem. Prices are very fair and the hotel keepers were charming to deal with. Rooms are adorable and clean. Decor is updated and super comfortable, love the wood like floors. If you find yourself in need of a nights stay in Paso, I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed staying here, there's even coffee and pastries in the morning if that's your thing. Car show weekend we booked our room at the Stables Inn. Cute quaint and comfortable. Customer service was so friendly and welcoming that when we arrived luckily we were able to check in early! Checking out was just as smooth. The breakfast coffee and muffin bar was a good start to a busy day. In the evening lounging at the fire pit was very relaxing. There is parking but it's a bit of a tightly squeeze backing out. The Stables Inn is just a short walk to the Downtown City Park shops and restaurants we left our car parked most of the day. The property is immaculate and adorable. Our room was pristine. The members of staff we encountered were as helpful and lovely and efficient as could be (a far cry from typical LA.). The public areas (breakfast room, sitting area / fire pit) are also adorable and thoughtfully planned. Our beds were so comfortable that I slept for 8 hours straight through, so not a given. I am a side sleeper but do not like a thick pillow, which I thought might be an issue, but obviously was not. I woke up in the same position that I fell asleep in. Fast WiFi, and an outlet through the headboard for charging at the bed. Parking and charger for your e-vehicle. Delicious fresh crumb cake in the morning, and premium to-go cups for coffee,(mugs in the room anlso) again all thoughtful. It was very hot today, but our room had the AC running and stayed nice a cool all night, probably why I slept so well. The open closet area and shelving assures you will not leave anything behind. We had a great stay here! Check in was easy. All the rooms at Stables Inn are nicely renovated and very clean! The bed and the comfy linens kept us warm and cozy on a cold night that we were there. There is an in-unit heater and AC which we perused. In the middle of the parking lot, there are 3 fire pits and chairs which my husband and I enjoyed in the morning with our complimentary coffee and lemon bundt cake. Breakfast is simple and is served in their Tack Room. Coffee, tea, yogurt and pastry. Although we only stayed here for one night, our only regret was that we didn't stay an extra night. Stables Inn was a nice surprise. Despite technically being a motel, it surpasses many hotels in terms of quality and comfort. The entire place was spotless, with a modern design that gave the impression it was brand new. The bathroom was immaculate, which is a crucial factor for me, as there's nothing worse than outdated or unclean bathrooms. The mattress was comfortable (despite some reviews suggesting otherwise) and was complemented by quality bedding. I really liked the enclosed common seating area, complete with a gas heating stove, and the availability of tea (and coffee). The outdoor island in the parking lot with its three gas fire pits was also nice. The Stables Inn was the perfect balance between being cute and modern, sophisticated yet casual. Found the Stable Inn on yelp reviews were pretty good. Got the #2 room for one night and travel down the coast from SFO. The Stable Inn a small room but the best hotel/Inn beat the one in San Jose and Carmel by the Sea. Cozy well renovated room price was good free wi-fi no facility charge like the major hotels or other hotels while traveling in Ca. and the towels for this 19 room inn they beat any place I have stayed at in forever. The Stables Inn is a charming renovated small old motel. The property is as charming as the rooms. Right out your door is a huge shade tree for hot days and a fire ring with chairs for cold nights. We stayed in a king room; I believe all rooms are similar in size. The hotel is farmhouse charming with all the beautiful accents of farmhouse appeal that range from black and white checked tile in the bath, lighter colored wood floors, and a real cowhide rug to step out of bed onto. The space in the room was adequate but I wouldn't exactly call it roomy. The same goes for bathroom the same. The bath has a large sink and some open storage, a small bit of countertop is provided around the sink. My only complaint is, they sacrificed practically for charm in the bathroom. A woman needs a bit of prep space to set her various necessities out and that's not provided here. The shower stall is decent again but not overly spacious, so if you are a large person, you may feel somewhat cramped. Instead of a glass enclosure, it has a curtain that thankfully didn't blow around trying to attack me while showering. The shower curtain was a nice choice for this small bathroom which allowed for better mobility than a glass door in this smallish space. One pet peeve of mine is darker hotel rooms, dark walls, and other dark decor. A big plus for me in this room, which some men and women might not care about was the great lighting in both the room and bathroom. The entire space is painted in a very nice soft white, lending to the very bright natural light feel. No weird yellow, green, or red hues to contend with while trying to apply makeup. The room decor is all new with beautifully selected accents, right down to a cowhide rug and wide-planked LVP wood-style flooring to keep with the motel's overall theme. The look is fresh, light and very comfortable with a look and feel of something you'd see in a Joanna Gains-styled home. The bed was extremely comfortable along with the fluffy down comforter was a perfect addition to our stay. The management provides a generous supply of amazing pillows. In the morning you can wander over a short jaunt to the coffee room and grab yourself a cup of coffee, water, and a not-so-tasty prepackaged pastry in the morning. I was told the pastry came from a local vendor but it had the appearance and taste of a 7-11 pastry that had traveled from New York a few days prior to me grabbing it up. One complaint I do have is that the outside pathway lights, light up the window all night long keeping me up off and on all night long. Hard to picture a curtain over the white blinds in this darling space but it would be nice. I'll bring eyeshades the next time because there will be another stay here. A suggestion I have for the management is to offer coffee at an earlier hour than 7. While I am not in need of coffee any earlier my dad, on the other hand, would have loved to have been able to stroll over to enjoy a cup at 6 AM. Also, it would nice to have a comfortable spot to hang out at on cold mornings, to sip coffee if your traveling companion enjoys sleeping in. A big issue that may now be fixed, was their booking site. I failed to examine my booking email after purchasing the stay, but I thought I booked a $ 150-a-night deal. After arriving we were charged $175 p/n. Unfortunately, I couldn't confirm the charge because the confirmation email doesn't state the room rate and their system doesn't let you view your booking. Another problem I took issue with was at the time of online booking they say they are taking a 50% deposit which is fine but in the confirmation email, they tell me they took $0 and I owe $0 for my stay. Wondering if they lost track of my rate due to a major programming error. Is this why I recalled a different room fee? Obviously, they need to work some kinks out here. Also, another nice thing to know is the inn is in a great location being a 4-minute stroll to town where most of the restaurants and shops are. While a bit pricey at $175 p/n for a Sunday and Monday motel stay in March, overall, we very much enjoyed our stay. read more

The Stables Inn in Paso Robles is the sister property to Hotel Cheval also in Paso Robles. The Inn was just named by Travel and Leisure as one of the best new hotels. This place is great. Western themed, it is unique, comfy and cozy. We had a King room and it was very comfortable. We had parking right in front of our unit which is very convenient. From the moment we stepped into the lobby, it had a warm vibe. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Our room had a cow print rug and leather chair. The bed was the antique style metal frame. The room had a small fridge, wine glasses and metal cowboy coffee mugs. The bathroom was just fine, the towels great and nice hot water for the shower. In the mornings head back over to the Stable for coffee, tea and pastries. In the middle of the property are white Adirondack chairs surrounding two fire pits. Take your favorite bottle of wine out there to enjoy around the fire in the evenings after a fun day of wine tasting. I highly recommend this spot in Paso Robles. read more

Oof. I really wanted to like this Motel, and I stayed here because I was told by friends (who visit Paso Robles more frequently) that it had been recently refurbished, so I thought that everything would be new & nice! Unfortunately, there were some glaring issues--for what it's worth, I stayed in room 1, which is the closest to the Motel lobby/breakfast/lounge multi-purpose area for guests. This meant that at any given time we were all too clearly able to hear every other guest from morning, noon to night. I wasn't expecting to be woken up to the sound of children (my bad, I somehow thought this was an adults only space?) before 8am at such a small property, other folks checking in, grabbing coffee, etc. This room & the multi-purpose area really could use some sound-absorbing/proofing elements since they're so close. Check-in was easy and pleasant enough, and at first the room seemed okay. I really liked the high ceiling and thought the open closet/desk/mini-fridge space was fairly clever. Upon closer inspection I noted two hairs on one of the pillow cases, but having seen the cleaning crew (same hair color) just exit our room I wasn't too fussed to make a comment as we were only staying two nights (and had already driven about 5+ hours)--they had four pillows and I knew I wouldn't be using all of them, so whatever, I figured removing the offending pillow was easy enough. Later when I went to shower I noticed the grout in the all-white tiled shower was speckled blue...everywhere, not just in a couple of spots; it very much seemed like someone had either dyed their hair in there, or used a color depositing conditioner to keep their hair colored, and had failed to clean up after themselves. I love funky hair colors & have used them myself in the past, which is likely why I was able to clock this for what it was rather than simply assuming it was mildew. Still a bit odd, considering a bleach scrub would have turned it all white again, and kept the place looking brand new. Paso Robles is pricey, and the Motel was priced pretty high for the off season (January), especially factoring in the uncleanliness. While the mattress was comfortable, the pillows were of the uber-thick variety; I ended up folding a sweater and using that as a pillow because they were far too firm for me, and the same was to be said for both beds, so it wasn't like I could switch out the pillows I disliked for ones that worked better for me. I can be a bit of a "princess and the pea" but my easygoing sibling agreed that they were just plain uncomfortable. While the fire pits were a cute touch, I prefer my amenities to be inside the room itself that I'm paying for. Speaking of, there was an ice bucket in the room--but to get ice, one must ask the front desk as they're the only ones who have access to the ice machine? I can't imagine paying full price to stay in an unclean and uncomfortable room in the future, which means this Motel-at-Hotel pricing just isn't for me. read more

There was a dog incessantly barking next door and the office staff quickly quieted the pooch, and owners, down. Strong coffee available at 7am. Great location downtown so you can walk to many restaurants and Moe's Pizza! Much better than your typical motel. read more

Loved staying here. It was crazy quiet - a few blocks from great food places and a park that had a musical concert the night we were there. We also took in Sensorio just down the way a few miles.. lovely to see the sunset there. The room was great- clean and in great condition. Super comfortable bed! Our kid loved the bunk in the Stag room. The coffee in the morning was great- and there are several hang out places around the courtyard. And we sat in the coffee room breakfast nook and sipped our coffee casually chatting.. it was a great space. Sadly we only scheduled one night before heading out to Hearst Castle.. next time we will stay longer and explore. read more

We were just passing through, but the Stables Inn made us want to come to Paso Robles again. The location is great, we parked our truck and were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. When we came back the fire pits were on and welcoming. Had they been off we might have just walked back to our room, but we sat outside, they have blankets and the vibes were so good. Look, the Cheval is my favorite hotel in Paso and one of my favorite hotels in the world. As much as I love it, even staying for a few nights would put a serious dent in my travel budget. With the rise in cost of tasting room fees, unique winery experiences and stellar restaurants in Paso the hotel is justifiably the place where you can cut costs as you're there only to sleep and shower. As a traveler at heart this should be the case, if I splurge on a luxury hotel I'd want to be there from check-in to check-out. The answer to this is the Cheval's sister property, the Stables Inn. It's a boutique motel with 19 rooms including a bunkhouse that can house 6 (california king plus 2 sets of twin bunk beds). The standard rooms either have one california king or two doubles. Beds are a comfortable sleep. Rooms have a TV and a mini fridge. You can ask the staff to heat up leftovers should you happen to bring home food from any one of Paso's great restaurants. I don't blame you. There's also a central outdoor fireplace right in the parking space and this is also a great place to just hang out after a serious day of wine drinking. Just needs a smores butler (can you work out something with the Cheval, pretty please?). Breakfast is more on the simple side with a fresh cup of coffee and pastries. The main draw to the Stables Inn is that it's three blocks from the park and a 5-minute walking distance to Paso's central downtown restaurants and tasting rooms. No worries about drinking and driving here. If I can't splurge at the Cheval this will be my alternate option if needing accommodation in Paso Robles. read more

Room was fine and very clean. but the second shower in the morning was very very cold. Shockingly they don't offer to hold luggage after check out like every other hotel does. We've stayed at tiny bed and breakfasts where they hold luggage. A comparable motel in Santa Barbara on this same trip held our luggage with a smile. But not here. Not even an exception as we are traveling by train and don't have a car to store our two carry ons. Instead of actually exploring and enjoying Paso Robles we stayed in a parking lot with our luggage. Won't be recommending this place for friends hoping to visit Paso Robles. Despite the room being good, hospitality really matters most and this place did not offer any. Very sparse room. I do love minimalism, but an area rug might warm the room up a bit and the nightstands and lamps do not go with decor at all. Lastly, the tv! Never have seen such weird streaming.
