Love how the price label has additional info about the condition of the vinyl. Pricing was about right. Saw some good deals, some that might be a tick high, but nothing crazy. And to support a local shop, most definitely worth it. But what really struck me was how friendly the staff were. I overheard one of the employees helping a customer and giving them really good advice, not only on selection, but how to care for their vinyl. Thoughtful! As I was checking out, they noticed my selection and next thing I knew we were talking about the band, their previous tour, their upcoming concert, etc. Another customer even joined in the convo. Fun! This place will definitely be a regular stop for me. Plus, living in Folsom, I think they're the closest to me .. bonus!

If you are a music nut for baby boomer era rock, blues, jazz, soul this place is mecca in Placer county. I've visited other vintage vinyl shops around the area, Cherry is my favorite. As of Jan 2026 the store has been in business 43 years. Dedication, friendly customer service, inventory selection, fair prices must be the secret. I'm a new fan of Cherry records and will be a regular customer.

Everyplace I walked, there was a blend of past and present. PlayStation 4 & 5 games, alongside rows of nostalgia that ranged in clothes, toys, accessories, movies, you name it. This store embodies 90s pop culture, and not the hip hop side, but more the alternative (which is what I felt more represented me). I found a dvd I've been looking for months, in just a matter of minutes. The movies are all alphabetized, yo! It's like a thrift store, but so much more. The last time was to sell a bunch or DVD's that had been laying around. Didn't count them just put a bunch in a canvas bag. I was told one that I would need to come back which was a going to be a huge pain then to out 4 hours later via text they were going to give me $6 for everything I brought in. REALLY!!! I didn't expect to make $100 or anything, but I figured $20 at least. So, now I needed to go back and get my $6 really I went back for my bag, it cost me more in gas to going back and forth then they gave me. Turned out to be 37 DVD's in total that I gave them. I would can't call it selling being they only gave me .16 cents apiece for them. Will not go back to sell anything. Too much work for too little reward.

I say "pilgrimage" because 1. it was a 4 hour drive and 2. it may well be the most wonderful aural experience you will ever have. I don't care how nice your headphones are, they cannot get anywhere near the imaging, depth, and impact that is provided by the equipment in this store. Remember, sound is a pressure wave, you don't just hear it with your ears, it is something you can feel with your whole body as it vibrates the air all around you. Likely if you are reading this review then you already have your reason for being interested in what this store has to offer. My reason is that I first experienced the greats of rock on my parents' hifi system (equipped with traditional large woofers) and have a need to imprint that same experience on my children (in the hope that they will have their third eye open to what music can be: time capsules, exploding with pure emotion). So, equipped with reason enough to visit, what makes Fly Hifi worth it? So many reasons. The most basic: you'll get better quality equipment here than ANYWHERE else for a much lower price. Other important factors: reliability (all equipment has a 30 day guarantee), a great demo space (great isolation and acoustically treated walls), ideal amplification (you'll hear the speakers' full potential), expertise (Steve knows his stuff but does not lord it over you), and vibes (all the other things that you can't find anywhere else like the comfy chairs, smell of high quality wood cabinets, zero pressure to buy from folks who enjoy what they are doing). So if you read all the way to here you're probably thinking, "Ok dude, I get to the point, you liked going to the vintage hifi store (who wouldn't?); what did you actually BUY?" Answer: The Klipsch Cornwall IIIs. I listened to them and in moments I knew they were exactly what I wanted. The punch of the bass seamlessly integrated with the crystal clear mids was so focused and clear which was exactly how I felt when I first heard my parents' system with my 3 year old hyper-sensitive frame. These things are going to blow my children away (with fidelity, not dBs; be responsible) and if my kids only come out of their childhoods with a passing interest in music it will not be for lack of the right exposure! There's a nice kids section with a large variety of books, stuffed animals, games, puzzles, educational kits, arts & crafts supplies, & toys. We recently got a science kit for the same price as a popular online source. It's hit or miss if we get offered help by a staffer on the floor who acknowledges us. When we've found someone, they've been helpful with looking up information for us. The most frustrating experience is the line. We've waited in long lines with sometimes only 1 or 2 staffers ringing up customers.

It's one of those places where you go in thinking you'll just browse for a few minutes and suddenly hours have passed because there's always something new to discover. The selection is huge and really unique compared to a lot of thrift/vintage stores. I loved looking through all the different sections and seeing things that brought back memories from childhood and different eras. The prices were fair, the atmosphere was fun and relaxed, and the staff was friendly too. He told me he typically sells to people with the "means" and the "space" for an analog setup, and that he couldn't help me. That was the whole interaction. For context: I already run a KEF LS60 system with two KC62 subwoofers. The KC62 is roughly the size of a shoebox. Neither means nor space was ever the issue, and one question would have told him that. I don't know what he was actually reacting to, and I'll never know. What I do know is that a dealer who sizes up customers on sight instead of asking them anything is bad at the job. Plenty of shops in this city will take your questions seriously. Go to one of those.
